But seriously, you can have your necros and your cthulhus and your demons and that's fine. But for me it doesn't get any better than having 20 rows of free archers and crossbows supported by 2+ full rows of assassins.

>>577716092awwwAnd I dunno, the unability to craft items easily in CoE makes it very hard for me to equip my generals and experiment as I'd like.
>>577717427You always end up with more than you know what to do with on gm.
>>577717939I just utterly despise that you cannot make items, you have to find them. It's like survival games: I like farming, I can barely stand mining, I like crafting but what I utterly hate is scavenging. I hate the idea that you cannot create, you can only pillage what you find. Because in the end, you're not recreating the old world or creating a new one, you're just a parasite prolonguing the agony of the current one, and what happens once you run out of scrap to scavenge?
>>577718407No. And you get like 5 offers each turn for different items, at discount, with enough apothecary guilds. That's in addition to what you get from recruits or what adventurers drop. And it's not like you really care for things other than +casting level or +regen.
>>577718830Says you. My favourite part of Dominions is always to pimp my generals with flashy bits. It serves little purpose to give my general a blacksteel armor but I like doing it.

how the fuckHow do I do anything good with the Atlanteans in Age of Mythology? They have a lot of healing bonuses and it's nice, but in T2, they don't have anything good. Like, how do I beat enemies in melee when they get archers that hit my units from afar, and my own archer units are anti-archers themselves, henceforth useless against monsters.
>>577723286All your troops are super counters to a specific unit or buildings type and only that unit or building type. Build appropriately.
>>577723463I really love I have so many options to heal units, but damn, I can't make head or tails of the peasants or the military units. I expected to lose my first games, I didn't expect to lose the very first skirmish.I miss AoE3 where you recruited units in bunches.

>>577723603Try doing Gaia and dryad spam.
>>577727664I tried that. They capped dryads to 5 at once. But the Tartarus Gate was a nice diversion while I destroyed their fortress, and DAMN. Atlante kinda sucks in early game, but in late games, the fanatics are killing machines. But I should've made chiroballistas, they looked okay. And available very early too.

>>577740036Stars in Shadows is like Master of Orion 2+. It tries to be like Moo2 but with less of the micro and some better population management. If you want more of a simulation you'd better go with Distant Worlds 2. Galciv 4 is very slow paced because it has a lot of bells and whistles, also designing ships can take up a lot of your time.

What do Civ V players think of Vox Populi?
>>578007538I like it but I'm not sure I would call myself a civ 5 player
>>578007538Very overrated.
>>578007538Fun, plays different enough from Civ V to shake you away from the monotony of owning 5 cities ASAP and then figuring things out from there. Some cheesy early game strats like stealing a city-state's worker and immediately declaring peace have far more pushback so relationships matter more, even if the AI's schizo tendencies from the base game shine through sometimes. Wide is more viable. Naturally implements InfoAddict, which is an amazing mod by itself and a powerful tool in vanilla. Most importantly it's better than Civ VII. Which isn't a high bar but I figure "better than VII" is a good Go/No Go test for if it's worth one's time.
Yeah I prefer Final Fantasy's Argos to Age of Mythology's.
BON APPETIT, KARLE DEMOSStill better than if they fall to kappas.
>>578007538I haven't played any overhaul besides it and Sapiens (rip), but the ai is more competent at fighting.
>>577993963tabletop tavern is kind of cool
>>578030835Told you.
>>578030835Gets old real fast tho
>>578007538complete garbage compared to sapiens which got updated after a year just a couple weeks ago
>>578031401nta but elaborate. I'm kinda itching to try some civ and vp never did it for me.
>>577943592What are you even supposed to do as a megacorp? Branch offices are such a pain to set up and monitor for what you actually get that I end up just not bothering and building a regular empire but slightly taller than usual. I guess you can go trade focus but then the way the market agressively oscilates combined with the repeating buy/sell orders deciding to not work half the time still makes it feel ass to play.Stellaris is a very flawed game but I maintain that the abysmal UI is the biggest thing holding it back from what potential for fun there is.
>maggots also get to spit out dragonfirekek
>>578032850i personally hate vp because its made for autistic people who want to micromanage every city every turn to squeeze the last bit of efficiency out of everything and in general is a micromanagement hellsapiens is much more in line with the normal civ 5 experience but with lots of major annoyances changed like unit upgrade trees leading to ranged/melee mixes where your promotions become useless or pikemen turning into lancers making them a shit unitsapiens also has the option to have 2 units per tile which i absolutely love about it so siege weapons can be protected from city bombardment by having a melee unit in the same tile which leads to actually using siege weapons before artillery because you dont get lmao instakilled by city bombardmentoverall sapiens adds a lot more of everything into the game
>>578034540This is AoW4, right? I look at UI and try to think on what actually remained from the old game. I think some symbols, like shield and ankh are there from the first game, just changed up. They show certain stats.Alignment face is there from older games. Beyond that? No old soul...
>>578034631And there's no range 2 crossbows upgrade into range 1 unit? Or here's a granary. It provides 2 beakers two apples one coin and a hammer for good measure.
>>578035845yeah no retarded unit upgrade paths at all everything now has a full ranged/melee and mounted ranged/melee lines and no range reduction bullshitsome buildings and tile improvements can have way better yields than vanilla but mostly its culture/faith added to things so you dont end up in a situation like with plantations in vanilla only giving culture so you are fucked if you want a religion and spawn with plantation luxuriesall in all the mod is designed by a human being and not some random guy deciding to kneecap half the resources/systems in the game for whatever reason
>>578036798Aright man. Sounds good. Appreciate you taking the time and saving me from getting my fix with 6.
>>578034631The dude put in canals and national parks in 5. Heck, iirc you can even build your own CS, something that hasn't ever been done in nuCivs. >>578031401>got updated after a year just a couple weeks agooh shit i thought the project died
what is the all time best 4x? I love me some zephon but i am lusting for some modded civ
>>578039559Stellaris of course
>>578039559Realism Invictus for Civ4
>>578039559None, they are too different and it's too subjective to pick.
>>578039813>Realism Invictuswhy? What are the major differences between civ4 and Civ5? I have mostly played Civ (snes) Civ3 ( modded and unmodded, usually fantasy mods like warhammer and that weird chinkmod) and UnCiv/DeCiv - as I understand it Unciv is based on civ5 ( its an android demake) also gladius and zephon
>>578043515The only reasonable answer
>>578044281>What are the major differences between civ4 and Civ5?have you played either of them
>>578044281>never ever tried eitherHow?
>>578047106>>578044592i've played a shitload of civ3 the fuck you want
>>578049180In no particular order: new black and white, tropico and command and conquer games but good, hidef feet pics of Tabrett Bethell starring as the lead of LOS season 3, Manner Lords to come out of EA soon and not suck, a good new citybuilder with trains and several million in gold bullion. Oh, and I'm curious how in the actual fuck you're not familiar with either 4 or 5 in the slightest but have extensively played 3.
>>578039559Whatever (You)r favorite one is.Except for VII. You objectively need to play more games and develop better taste if VII is your favorite.
I am playing Sid Meier's Civilization V, with the Vox Populi modification.
>>578055156alot of people seem to prefer civ5, including the unciv and gladius devs - though their first 4x pandora is more like civ3 ( or alpha centauri rather, cool to play a modern game where u can stack of doom everything on one tile)
where do I place my second cityalso damn look at all those blue rocks
>>577678414Spiderfag, do you have a pet theory about the Man in the iron mask?
>>578058017Not really. I read that the jailer invented the whole thing to look interesting, and that there was never any man in an iron mask. Not like Monarchy back then was anything subtle. There's a reason civilized countries look down on Kings. Richard Lionheart's brother, the one called in France "Landless John", there was a woman that pissed him off. He had her, and her baby thrown in a cell. They both died of starvation. Bite marks on the baby were found.Kings are absolute trash.
>>578000982>I should watch that movie one day. It's okay, classic Ghibli but not one of their best.>It looks simple and basic as fuck, though. I don't understand, why did it take you "a gorillion hours"?Okay it was more like 2 or 2,5. I had to do a lot of experimenting. I'm quite new to designing forts in that game. Because you only have 2 dimensions you have to use different textures, colours and decorations to create the illusion of depth. I don't know how to load one of the ai forts to see how they do that but I took appart the prebuilt fort in my capital to find out. I don't like it when I spend that much time to get somehting just the way I want it. I spend too much time on spaceships in galciv too.
>>577678414Distant Worlds, Dev Diary #2 – Pirate Factions: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1531540/view/716788020075823140
is this archipelago worth settling? I don't care honestly I'm gonna do it anyways
>>578060139Oh, so kinda like Scriptorium. This shit looks simple AF but is actually quite tough.
>>578063371Oh I forgot about this game. But yeah the designer is a bit finicky, not that it is that hard. The UI is not that cooperative, especially with the decorations. I'm still figuring out how to make things look decent and detailed. For example this is how the two forts look on the inside. You nee to use some tricks to make it not look like garbage on the outside. The problem for me is that what I want takes so much time that there's little time left to actually play the game.
>>578069493Oh my gosh, I like this. But I have a very soft spot for these anthills views, they were the reason I got interested into XCOM.Before I missed two shots at 95% and ragequitted, rageuninstalled, and ragerefunded them.
WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS
>>578069493Sometimes you get more fun from designing your anthill than from actually playing the game.
>>578071212True but I want to know how it will fare against an enemy attack. I also want to see my heavy mortar fort fire its huge gun against enemy airships. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to change an old design to make an all purpose small (and cheap) attack ship. I want to add two machine guns and one or maybe two light sponson guns. I need something that can kill the giant wasp nest that is in my lands. After that it will be a small anti air ship.
>>578071212Sometimes. But eventually, you do want to see your defenses tested.Trust me, I played Factorio without bugs. It get boring after a while.
>>578072217Glad you're having fun but that game just didn't do it for me.>>578072485I prefer juiced up deathworld with one of these. They're not amazing against big worms but they're the ride you want on gleba and nauvis.
>>578073307I tried Factorio, I really tried, but I just bounced off it. I played it with an /indie/ bloke, and we both got frustrated at each others: I felt useless and had no idea what I was doing, and he got frustrated at how I couldn't play as often as possible. Now that I no longer have a job, I could return to it, but I don't feel like trying multiplayer games anymore. Whenever I try any, I feel like everyone is staring at me and judging me.
>>578070772That's why you buy tiles. Otherwise the AI WILL forward settle you just to spite you.
>>578073785I've been playing it on and off since it was EA and have never even tried mp in it so don't know what to tell you.>Whenever I try any, I feel like everyone is staring at me and judging me.Again, don't know what to tell you. Get gud or get over yourself. No one's forcing you to play mp and pugs were and will always remain cancer in any game. Accept that and occasionally you'll be pleasantly surprised but assume they're crap and lower your expectations appropriately. I personally wouldn't bother playing anything in mp that has games that last longer than 20 minutes unless it's from a vetted community. I mean, investing 2+ hours into something that some random will inevitably alt+f4 seems like an insane waste of time.
>>578073785Actually, thinking about it. Have you tried stardew? Might be more up to your speed.
>>578070772Nice
>>578074989>get over yourselfI'm French, how am I meant to do that? I tried to swallow my pride once, and I nearly fucking choked.Pic related.>>578076141Tried it. It was boring AF and it lacked cute girls. Rune Factory was more up my alley.
>>578076407Climb a tall wall and mock passers-by? Invade Russia? I dunno, I'm not French.>Tried it. It was boring AF and it lacked cute girlsCareful. Your carefully constructed gay persona is crumbling and you're dangerously close to sounding like a normal person.Listen, I like to talk shop about games I personally enjoy and am not really for coddling anyone but I'll offer you a suggestion for your mp problem. You could give Turincrowd a look. Not my main haunt by any measure but last I checked it is a reasonably decent place to get a dune sp or dawn of war or coh game going. Pretty sure they still have an aoe4 crowd active as well, not that I'd personally play that game. As long as you contain your power level, don't act like a drama queen or constantly memespew and can stomach some dad humor you should be fine.
>>578078040>Invade Russia? That's a German thing, not a French one.>>578078040>you're dangerously close to sounding like a normal personUgh, how disgusting. And I'll check it, though asking me to not act like a drama queen is tough. Speaking of Durin, any of you blokes tried Age of the Ring?
>>578078319Yeah, about that...>German thing, not a French oneSame thing, innit. I mean France is named after (West) Francia which is from Frankia or land of the Franks. A germanic tribe.Never got into bfme2, modded or otherwise. Played the campaigns post launch and didn't feel the need to pick it up again. Heard it's good if very pro elf in its balancing.
>>578079229>Same thing, innitDon't even joke about that. I've been at Oradour-sur-Glâne. It's enough for me to hate the Germans. And yeah, elves in BfME2 were pretty strong, but honestly, elves in general in LotR are insanely strong. They're closer to angels than the elves we usually have in fiction.I actually used to think the elves could translate into angels, with the Maiars being archangels, but I was told that I had it backward and that the Valars were the archangels, the Maiars the angels, and the elves were just the divine, chosen people.
>>578079780As far as I'm concerned I'm firmly aligned with the Scrin and both you GDI and NOD countries can turn to tiberium. No, I meant literally. Lothlorien is apparently a bit broken. Closely followed by mirkwood and rivendell with only misty mountains and their troll and drake spam being a good evil faction. I'm going by grapewine and memory from like two years ago so take it as such.
>>578081107If you mean in Age of the Ring, then I have no opinions about it. I find it really hard to play elves in LotR because the reveal that they spend the rest of eternity locked in Mandos's cavern is just a horrifying fate for me.

Did I miss all of the Manor Lords posting, or has everyone moved on like 4 years ago? If not - I only just jumped on the bandwagon so can anyone fill me in on whether it's worth playing now or I should just wait another 10 years for full release?
>>577824925Did you try the demo? It's basically just a remake + expansion of Stronghold 2 and plays like a dream. I know it's standard policy to be pessimistic about upcoming games (and agree it's usually warranted), but this one's looking like everything the community's wanted for all those years.
>>578255397>remake + expansion of Stronghold 2Urgh. So leaning more on the castle building side compared to Stronghold Crusader? I can't wait for my production to drop to zero because someone took a shit in front of the granary and the drop in popularity ruined my carefully balanced economy.
>>578255665The demo had(has? You can still get it through torrents if it's not on steam) a military scenario and an economic one. The economic one was surprisingly easy, but yeah the production chains etc work just like in SH2 - even the economic scenario has 'raids' every X minutes to keep you on your toes. Not sure what it's like compared to Crusader though - didn't like the desert setting so I never finished it.
>>578255981The production chains in Stronghold Crusader are extremely simple by city-builders standard. It's a game made to be straightforward and allow early aggression.
>>578255397I'm looking strictly at their track record and their last semi decent game being Space Colony and that was from 2003.>def was goodThey were. are there any good 2d city builders where I can basically create and infinitely big city until my CPU can no longer keep up?
>>578275718Infinitely? No. Closest I can think of is Dwarf Fortress and its clones: Towns, Gnomoria... And I'm not sure these allow really big cities.

>>578283979ok thx bro>>578284237I like the idea of being able to play for hundreds of hours on the same save
what a comfy looking peninsula>>578284434you can get that without an infinite map. realistically, you can't fill out all 81 tiles on a C:S map
>>578284434I mean, you can try a game like Industry Giant 2 or something, it has mechanics for towns getting bigger as they consume more, but I assume there are caps to prevent them from filling the map.
>>578284509what the fuckthey're not even all that weak
>>578284434Have you considered quality over quantity? As in covering a fuck huge map with tents is one thing but covering even a reasonably large section of one with large palaces or heavenly compounds and having all the supporting infrastructure running like clockwork is another.
Anybody played Shields of Loyalty?
>>578284692I want to plop at least one city down here but I don't know where
>>578285445I care about quality too. This whole idea came to me after thinking how much I enjoy building huge bases in factoro.Never really played city builders, but I imagine they could be fun in the same way.
>>578286457You should try some then. You'll quickly understand why infinite city as a concept does not translate well with what you have in mind when you have to worry about permanent and ever more demanding service coverage and when not every problem can be solved with logistic bots. I'm not the biggest fan of nuAnnos but it doesn't get more newfag friendly than that while being a great time killer. >>578163707Played for a bit more so can give a more comprehensive answer. It doesn't really have much to do with rw other similar ui and art elements. It's closer to banished meets sims in how it plays. You got to prepare for winter, most of the manufacturing you do is on a global limit scale as in make tools until x and so on. This is done mostly by peasants. There are also soldiers which double as police force and thralls which are either bought slaves or captured enemies, and they're all-round better than regular peasant workers but try to escape every so often and happy and or loyal and or fanatic peasants work better so pick your poison. The curveballs are your nobles that have interpersonal relations and skill/personality quirks and a rpg class of sorts and the global church. Fuck the church. Example in rw you want to chop a tree? You designate it and or right click priority and your colonist runs and chops it. In this? Your major noble, of which you have up to six when assigned to manage a building goes around every so often and shakes his fists until either peasants or thralls do the chopping. He or she in the meanwhile proceeds to do more gentlemanly affairs such as research, hunting, propositioning random guests or peasants, plotting to manipulate them or getting shitfaced on turnip vodka and getting stabbed by random criminals. It's very shallow and skin deep but endearing on occasion.Example in rw you want to fight something? You draft and control. Well, in here you again assign a major noble or a lesser noble such as a knight to lead a squad of npc soldiers from your settlement. Then everyone picks their kit, which you get to decide from available weapons of which most have some niche, maces stun and allow for captives, spears are really good but break easily, bows are fantastic unless they have armor and so on.There's also global map and a goal of sorts to reunify the old empire thru diplomacy or bullying everyone including the church.

>>578346386You should be entitled to controlling your informations.
>>578372187You know how you control your information? By not willingly giving it out to strangers, especially when corporations and governments are already stealing it without your consent. You can't expect privacy regarding things you willingly divulge in a public setting. Not like it really matters in the grand scheme of things, nobody here or /indie/ is going to come to France to fuck with you, but if you didn't want randos to talk about your business then maybe you shouldn't be constantly off-topic blogposting and making yourself easily identifiable via avatarfagging. Also get her some flowers. The 13th marks 6 months.

>jaguar rider>is a pantherLIES AND SLANDER
Fun fact, the reason the Aztec town center has a fountain is because for the era, Mexicas had exceedingly good hygiene, unlike moderns Americans, with access to fresh water assured from several aqueducts.
>>578384808A panther is just a leopard or a jaguar with black fur.
>>578385058If they were the same, they'd be called "black jaguar", not a completely different name. Kinda like bears can be brown, black, polar, rainbow, or dream.

>>578387530>propulsion...wait, the spider was from that balloon game?!? The one with the La Puta castle on the ground?!Was the fight against the Tarantula a real fight, or just a RNG thingy?
>>578387607Yes there are monsters that randomly spawn and one of them is a giant spider nest. Monsters usually reduce income of the province so I have to deal with it soon. I first have to take care of Kirkumferum, the neighbour to my east. Merchants of the town of Xim have been selling opium in my empire which I then banned. The Kirkumferum government asked me to lift the ban which I refused, which got me into a war with them. They are now attacked form all sides so I just want to punish them by pillaging the town of Xim. We are now in an age of unrest so I can't conquer any more towns also I don't think I want the opium region. After all this I deal with the spider.
>>578386657What game is that?
Look at the size of that thing.>>578389265Airships conquer the skies. It's like a risk plus with some lore and lots of airship, landship and base building. The goal is to reunite the empire and crown yourself king. Or help some other city state become king. There's also cultists with a different goal but I haven't tried that yet.

>>578389708It eats a lot of cows ok
It's shooting some sort of arrows. Already got a hull breach in one of my ships. The sheet metal is easy to breach though. I covered the top of my ships with the sheet metal because it is a level 0 armour that is better suited against explosives. Lots of early ships have grenade throwers in them.>>578389708It's a world with suspendium crystals. don't think about it too much.
Spiders give me creeps.
>>578389885>he is unaware
>>578389885That game strategy layer is too hard for my smooth brain.
I think I need to return with bigger guns. I've been rotating ships in front of it to draw away its fire but now I'm running out of ammo. Also a thunderstorm is starting and the lightning can strike down your ships if you are unlucky. I lost one of my destroyers due to a direct strike on the suspendium chamer earlier.>>578391524I think there's only two types of damage, pierce and blast. Explosives do blast damage, things like canons do pierce damage. Wood is better against pierce. It's not that hard. I have no idea about things like the acid, suspendium beam and the flamethrower but you are hardly up against such weapons. Also I don't have that much experience fighting monsters, it's always more guesswork to figure out what is effective against them. This one seems to have a massive pool of HP.

Imagine driving 90 km/h with a monstrosity like this. They must have very smooth roads. I hope I can take out the spider with this.

>>578400570...huh?
>>578407709Command means how quickly you can give new orders to ships. There's a couple of modules that improve this like the bridge or the cockpit. You can turn this off when creating a new game but I think it's another way for ships to have different specializations. It's only a small handicap.
>>578410340I once tried to play Dune Spice Wars with fellow /civ4xg/ gentlemen. I had a delay of 2 seconds when ordering units and it was so bad that I almost left right away.I can't imagine playing with a delay of 4 seconds.
