I read Utawarerumono and didn't like much. At the time I thought the issue was too many pointless SOL scenes, but I recently picked up Mask of Deception and it is so much better, despite being filled with even more SOL comedy scenes. Looking back, the issue with the first game was actually that it was just poorly written.
