That's irrefutable. FFXIII series is famous (infamous?) for having some of the hottest women in the whole series. But instead of them being in the background like in say FFXV, they all play very major roles in the story. You get to interact with and play most of them, and for extended periods of time. No other mainline, nonMMO FF games have such a focus on the female cast. Except for the all girls game X-2, made by the same director as XIII series, or something like FFV with its 3 female leads.

The game is truly boring, but I don't blame individual developers like Takai or Yoshi, don't think there's a lack of artistic vision, or anything like that. It's simply obvious, after five games in a row (13, 14 on release, 15, 16, VII Remake too), that SE, for some combination of technical and managerial reasons, can't make a proper, full-fledged, content-rich AAA game. They always make compromises, resulting in an unfinished, literally a minimal viable product: it might work (not talking about you, 14 1.0) and be polished (again, not talking about you, 14 1.0), but it feels like a bare bones game, not a fully-fledged thing.
Maybe I'm too dramatic, but I think that Kiryu pipeline will either save us or put the final nail in the coffin.

Usually if someone doesn't like a game they'll make it very clearly obvious with the opening remark because they're earnest. But sometimes there's a different motive. You might see someone loudly claim to be big fans of the game, but they more so enjoy making fun of and shitposting through mockery and belittlement VIIR fans who are seen as being too positive and/or defensive about the game. You'll see them comparing any regular VIIR fan discussion to Barry-tier flooding of the zone, even when there's absolutely zero similarities between them. There's even a favorite petname they like to spam which clues you in immediately. You should be able to see that those people are obviously just shitposting. They are themselves the one that's pretending to be the "Barry-like VIIRgin" that posts endless nonsense. It's all to falseflag about VIIR, insinuating the "real fans of the game don't accept any valid criticism." It's really so painfully obvious. You can see that form of irony poisoned shitposting here and on /v/ in pretty much any Final Fantasy VII related thread on a daily basis.

Oh IDK man, I do. I think it's perfectly fair to blame the game developers for why the game was boring as sin. They had an entire catalogue of Japanese roleplaying games to take inspiration and ideas from and they instead chose to take their ideas from GoW 2018 (not the good ones) and other Sony published cinematic mush.

They have talented people, artists, designers, animators, they have lots of money to spend. There is no excuse for how fucking dreadful the game is to play outside of having a completely and entirely misplaced vision. They made the game wrong, top to bottom. They intended to make a modern OTS game that literally anyone including random gun and ball gamers, could pick up and play and not be intimidated by. No RPG, no elements, no tactics. Just look at that fucking Sony sponsored commercial that was literally full of non-gamer sportsball players.

Personally I must blame Naoki Yoshida who is in charge of Creative Studio 3. He put the people in charge, he approved and sold that vision to us as. But there could be many others who contributed their bland/bad/outdated ideas of course. QTEs in major moments? Straight out of a bygone era? Not even good ones either with some variety of input and prompt locations, like what's in XIII-2, or the Loveless play in VIIR, or literally any video game ever that had QTE's including the old God of War games?

I dunno man, on the other hand I'm thinking: Yoshi-P knows the value of minigames and side content. I didn't play 14 much, but it had plenty of that kind of content, and it was even interesting in places. Based on this, it's clear to me that when Yoshi said in interviews that 16 wouldn't have minigames because the story was supposedly serious and they didn't want to distract the player from the main plot, it was more like damage control than a sincere belief on his part as a creator. Similarly, he said that creating an open world for 16 would have taken 10 years. So even if they'd wanted to make 16 the equivalent of a big AAA game of its generation, they wouldn't have been able to do it.
A similar situation happened with Toriyama, whose games are filled with side content, but who is now remembered as the father of corridors because he screwed up that one time with 13. And then he confessed in some obscure interview that they just didn't have enough time to make 13 similar to 10, with towns and stuff.
I still think that whether someone has artistic vision or not, there is a larger problem: they can't come up with a fast production line for their games.

I'm sure that he does. He seems to know a lot about FF elements whenever it comes to stealing them fr-I mean adding them to his cash-cow MMO. But when the vision of the game isn't a Final Fantasy game but is instead "grimdark, God of War style Sony-exclusive, over-the-shoulder, Game of Thrones tone", well there's literally no room at all for levity and whimsy or variety of interactivity. They replaced the horses with Chocobo. They literally didn't have the Moogle in the game at all and it had to be forced in very awkwardly, because a woman on the dev team noticed they were missing. So what did they do? They just grabbed the Moogle from FFXIV and gave it more detailed fur. Remember when they claimed how much of a challenge that was to implement? Lmfao. Not any game element, world map traversal, exploration, or anything with mechanical depth. No, it was the fur on the Moogle.

These same production time issues don't seem to be affecting the CS1 games or the FFVIIR series, although I definitely understand the benefit that using UE has over the older in-house tools. Maybe the team-leader really does have something to do with how a project turns out?

When Yoshi-P did interviews near the release of A Real Reborn he talked about how he was a huge MMO fans and had played a lot of MMOs in his life and had made A Real Reborn by putting in all the fun elements of other MMOs while avoiding all their missteps.

When he did interviews for FFXVI, he talked about how the game was influenced by Games of Throne, Attack on Titan, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Godzilla and Ultraman.

This is literally the only thing you need to know for why FFXVI ended up the way it is.

Still, given that all of their major Final Fantasy games are very bare bones, including VII Remake, which is clearly a very limited, restricted game with a ton of compromises and technical issues like infamous stretched JPEG backgrounds and other graphical junk that we all laughed at in 2020, I still think the technical, I don't know, industrial aspect is more important. When you're right you're right lad. FF hasn't felt like a truly complete FF experience since the PS1. FFX was a massive shift, it didn't have what the previous games had and that has cascaded down across this entire century. Graphics and visual fidelity as well as animation quality has ruled the day over the deeper and more technically complex aspects of game design that were able to be more easily implemented in previous games because of the hardware limitations on said graphics and animation quality.

I personally think we are only just now seeing the daylight on this with Revelation, a game that took only 3 years with a fully explorable world map in an airship with a deep and rich RPG combat system and stunning visual fidelity. Final Fantasy XVII CANNOT repeat past mistakes by throwing out this faithful evolution of Final Fantasy on PS1 for something else again. It must be iterated again with both studios working on their new releases simultaneously, all built off the same fundamental new Final Fantasy framework. That's what Capcom is doing and that's what SE must do too.
