Laplace comes from a shitty place, so let's quickly show a few short scenes of everyone around her failing her. It doesn't get to be too much because we don't linger on it, it's just there to show us why Laplace wants to save others and to give us context for actions she takes later in the story.They're both shitty examples because they serve important functions within their stories outside of just being "sad". Footsteps Walk Run is actual miseryslop. The story overemphasizes Rapi's suffering at the expense of her actual character development or even building up meaningful themes. You could just cut the first half of the story, because nothing but suffering padding occurs before Red Hood shows up.Shitting on Rapi's trash backstory is a bit cliche though so I'll also mention Clay, More!, which is just needlessly mean to Clay for a big chunk of the story. Sure, it pivots into this nice little underdog sports story, but getting there is just needlessly miserable and the resolution of "everything just kind of returns to normal" doesn't feel satisfying because now we're aware of severe systematic issues within Clay's workplace that are just never addressed again.
