Carrying You Tender edition

Previous thread: >>578442379

An episodic narrative adventure game by developer Don’t Nod (DN). Set in the fictional coastal town of Arcadia Bay, Oregon, it follows Max Caulfield, a shy, awkward photography student who discovers she can rewind time and—perhaps more urgently—that she’s very, very gay. At the heart of the story is Max’s reunion with her estranged best friend, the rebellious, blue-haired Chloe Price. Their bond becomes the game’s pulsing queer core as they unravel the mystery of Rachel Amber’s disappearance. What begins as a teenage reconnection blooms into a messy, tender queer odyssey about grief, desire, and the impossible choices we make for the people we can't truly live without.

>>
>>578718193
Lets continue this discussion from the previous thread. How would you reboot Life is Strange in a way that would be capable of appealing to newer audiences?
>>
>>578984967
I do like Lyla and I wish she had more screen time. I'm ambivalent about Amanda.
>>
>>578991970
I’m not even the anon who originally brought up her name. I’m the one who keeps telling you that you are literally the only person in the entire fandom parroting this brain-dead point. Which means that even by the notoriously low intellectual standards of this fandom, you still manage to stand out as exceptionally stupid. Keep seething.
>>
>>578992230
Let DN remake the original, but add combat where you play as Chloe while Max rewinds. Chloe has to protect Max since Max is a weak baby magic user. There will be a couple scenes, like when Warren beats up Nathan or David fights Jefferson, where you do combat as other characters.

Today's kids need more fights in their video games.
>>
>>578992997
Sounds like a terrible idea, also not sure if DN can survive long enough for a remake
>>
>>578992997
It doesn't even have to be straight-up combat. They just need more timed action set-pieces, like when that retard got her foot stuck in the railroad switch and you had to save her. But with much higher stakes
>>
>>578995750
The over reliance on action QTEs was a result of Quantic Dream (mostly Heavy Rain) being an influence on the genre, but that wouldn't work the same way it did today
>>
File: HKUFK9wWUAANRas.jpg (139 KB, 616x900)

>>
>>578986436
Yeah, they literally can't help themselves
>>
>>578997951
I think the era of QTEs is long over. It would be cool to see LIS push the genre further and really experiment with the gameplay, but I'm not sure who would be a good developer for that. I would like to see DN get another chance and see if they can take it there, even if they might be washed. A straight up remake would be doing the original a disservice.
>>
>>579004936
>A straight up remake would be doing the original a disservice
That's unfortunately the most Square Enix thing to do, but with even less care than the FVII remake saga
>>
>>578983341
Me too
>>
>>578992230
It’s a bit hard to say. I think the shipping aspect is kind of a dead end. Lost Records tried to appeal to the same audience that loved Life is Strange by adding more ships, but it sold kind of poorly and was only really saved by the PlayStation deal. To be fair, I also thought the game was pretty boring. There was almost no gameplay and very few meaningful choices.

I think a remake would probably sell well, and if they ever made more games, I think they would need to keep Arcadia Bay, Max, and Chloe around in some form. Mysteries and things that get people discussing, debating, and speculating are also a must. I was part of the whole Dispatch release, and the discussions between episodes were really fun and attracted a lot of people. The speculation went completely wild and was almost always wrong, but that was part of the fun. It also got a lot of attention, and streamers and other grifters quickly saw the potential.

I’ve heard from some very shady sources that Victoria, Kate, Warren, and some of the other characters are getting more content in the TV show. If that is true, I think it’s a smart move. If we ever got a remake, I would like to see something similar, with additional content or DLC that explores these characters more. Then build on that in future games. Give people several characters, relationships, and romances to get invested in without having everything compete with everything else.

But of course, none of this will ever happen, because this franchise is dead as fuck
>>
>>578997951
I think the current generation would hate that kind of gameplay
>>
>>579017093
I think a lot of LiS 1 fans need to let it go. It's over.

>I think a lot of LiS 1 fans need to let it go. It's over.
The whole point of the shipper contingent is that they physically can't let it go. But if you look at the broader LiS1 fanbase, judging by the hype for the latest game, they moved on a long time ago

Absolutely no more chances for them, they are long washed. The only time they managed to make a quality leap and deliver something genuinely fresh was between Remember Me and LiS1. Since then, it’s just been a lot of different attempts to step into the same river twice, using the exact same old methods and approaches. They will never make anything worthwhile or conceptually new ever again
>>
>>579048585
I didn’t give a shit about it at first, but seeing how many people get triggered just by the thought of it makes me fully support this
>>
>>579057268
You seem like a miserable person
>>
>>579054034
>using the exact same old methods and approaches
Which methods are you talking about? The real dontnod issue is their leadership is full of jackasses who wasted too much resources on making ten games swapping devs with no long term planning at the same time, rather than keep few established teams to build up. Their only grace is they have more artistic integrity than D9 but that's not useful if their boss is as much of a tool as the other leadership
>>
>>579017093
The sad truth that even if another Life is strange game came out and was great the chance is that it would sell poorly

>>
>>579058593

>>
>>579017093
I think there’s a reasonable chance that, at some point after the show, we’ll get a remake. I’m not really sure what else we can realistically expect. More games would obviously be nice, but as that other anon said, it’s probably about seven years too late for that. Personally, I’d be quite happy with a reboot that was more closely tied to Life is Strange
>>
>>579075984
I wonder if SE has any regrets about not selling LIS when they sold their other Western IPs.
>>
>>579075984
>I’d be quite happy with a reboot that was more closely tied to Life is Strange
If you care about slop sure, but right now doesn't seem like LiS is in SE hot priority list
>>
>>579068541
>seeing DE everywhere even when it wasn't even mentioned
It’s honestly impressive how much that game broke your fragile psyches
>>
>>579058593
That doesn't change the fact that their core narrative team just got completely stuck in the mid-2010s, regurgitating the exact same tropes without any conceptual evolution
>>
>>579091592
There's always an impulse to stick with things that worked in the past and most people get more rigid as they age. It would be interesting to see a younger team try a narrative game in the vein of LIS and see what they come up with and if the genre still has some juice.

>>
>>579201474
This is actually true, she was fawning over Amanda in that one interview. Weird how it ended up with Safi being more popular
>>
>>579230102
That's actually not hard to understand. Safi became more popular because of pricefielders, who made up the vast majority of players for this garbage. In the game, she is depicted as a complete and utter loser, which made her feel safe to them. Plus, she's shown as genuinely toxic and pricefielders absolutely love that. On the other hand, actual Safi fans after DE, and I have quite a few of them among my moots, were completely shocked by this. Many of them just dropped the fandom entirely and stopped posting about LiS
>>
>>579201474

This is what Michel said on the ending change, how Chloe alive in both endings felt like a cop out and wanted a strong emotional impactful ending, with the other one being the town destroyed
>>
I never understood the blind devotion to Michel and the other writers. They had one big hit, and when they finally tried to recreate it with Lost Records, it wasn’t anything special. Most of their games aren't anything special
>>
>>579306383
Death of the Author when it's convenient.
>>
>>579306383
While authorial intent isn't the end all, be all, I do think it can provide clarity to hear what they were thinking when they wrote it. I don't follow Michel, but whether I agree or disagree, his takes are interesting.

I also think it's reasonable to want a continuity of vision in sequels and prequels. It's rarely completely uncontroversial when new teams take over a franchise, but LIS emphasizes narrative and emotional connections with the characters to a greater degree than, say, an action game that lives or dies on mechanics. When devs get that wrong, fans rightfully bitch about it, too, though.
>>
>>579306383
Lost Records had great characters, but it suffered also because it was Michel alone and not with Raoul Barbet as a co director, if you look at their games Michel is clearly more of a slow paced, hugely metaphor guy while Raoul is more on the dynamic, cinematic set up similar to Quantic Dream's style. They had a good balance and LR suffers from his absence to counter Michel's more metaphysical abstraction
