Anybody have any luck using the unity mcp and cursor? Does it actually go well?
>>
it seems like a game needs to be challenging yet comfy. but what i notice is that the challenge doesnt have to be complicated, it can even just be "this enemy is level 10 and you need to grind for a day to get to level 10 and get good enough gear so clicking spells on the enemy actually kills them".

maybe challenge isn't the right word!? maybe it's about "goals" only?

and i also think the goals need to unlock something. most commonly it's probably areas. but those areas have to be nice to look at and make you feel something and feel nostalgic about them later on. e.g. in guild wars 2 i unlocked areas that were nothing but war-ridden wastelands without much vegetation.

maybe it's like cooking, a good recipe needs a good mixture. it's not only goals, not only aesthetics, not only fantasy, not only gameplay, it's a good mix of everything.

keep in mind i talk about games i want to play, not about games that go viral. i tried schedule 1 for 2 hours, it was somewhat fun, but it felt pointless very fast. so this game is useless to me, even though it sold well.

although schedule 1 is easy to play, yet sets goals over and over. which confirms my formula. for me its lacking in the aesthetics and fantasy apartment.
>>
>>579300998
no its not about challenge, its about progression. games used to be about progressing yourself by getting better at the game. this has now been bypassed by time (money) gating progression. AAA slop makes you buy battle passes and grind, gacha slop and whatever makes you do daily grind shit, indie slop has exploded with idles/incrementals for this reason too; no need to get good at the game just keep clicking and you get levels and epic huge numbers.
friendslop has all of these and also just fucking around with your friends.
>>
>>579300998
I prefer challenging, but building enough muscle memory will get you through the toughest challenges. sekiro is my favorite example of this. you could grind and get lots of shit but in the end without the muscle memory you will use those up and still not beat the boss.
>>
>>579300490
just start, even the smallest thing is still progress
>>
I just noticed that AI is not good for 2D animation.
Either I have to choose slop, or do it by hand, and that would mean that it would take weeks to create few second animation.
>>
>weeks
>>
>>579300998
for most people games need two things:
1) goals/content that you can continuously keep chasing, there needs to be a clear path (disregarding side content etc) that guides player from point A to point B to boss A to boss B etc
2) a way for your character to feel stronger the more you progress

>>
>>579302221

>>
>>579301838
I don't think games really have to be this. There probably needs to be some sense of progression but it doesn't need to be "getting stronger."

It could literally just be unlocking a new hat or something and that will satisfy players.

Cozy Sorting Video Games Inspired by Librarian

Following the massive popularity of ArtRising's Librarian: Tidy Up the Arcane Library, the PC and simulation community has seen a surge of quick-turnaround asset flips and legitimate "tidy-up" spin-offs.

Some examples:

Cellar Keeper — A direct reskin of the shelving concept that swaps magical spellbooks for vintage wine bottles and barrels.

Toy Shop: Tidy Up — Reuses the same sorting and stacking loop, tasking players with organizing scattered toys on retail shelves.

Librarian: Tidy Up Roblox Library — A blatant unauthorized clone on Roblox that reportedly went as far as stealing and editing the official Steam capsule art.

Monk Took Book — A Steam release that copies the pixelated, top-down visual style of organizing historical archives.

Cleaning Up the Puzzle Gallery — An upcoming first-person variant focusing on collecting and re-sorting scattered artwork pieces across a massive museum.

At this point, it's hard not to notice the pattern: one simple game becomes successful, and suddenly everyone is racing to make their own version before the trend dies.

There's nothing inherently wrong with being inspired by another game. But there's a pretty big difference between taking an idea and doing something genuinely interesting with it and changing the theme, swapping the assets, and trying to cash in while the original is still trending.

It's a Halloween party and (you) are invited! However, we know GTA 6 is coming (if the dead man's switch doesn't activate) and is gonna make everyone busy for Christmas. So we'll combine them for our opening overview animation for our jam. And, we want to have your characters at our party!

>HOW TO JOIN
For 3D Devs either send a rigged model as a .glb (blender) file or send a static PNG (transparent) of your character in some sort of standing pose, holding a drink, eating some chips, etc. Bonus if you dress them up in a Halloween costume or a Christmas outfit.

For 2D Devs you can send a static PNG (transparent) of your character in some sort of standing pose, holding a drink, eating some chips, etc. Bonus if you dress them up in a Halloween costume or a Christmas outfit.

If you're interested, send it to us by this Tuesday September 1st.

And don't forget to sign up for the v3jam: https://itch.io/jam/v3expos-world-famous-game-jam-2

AI has not replaced 50% of white collar labour like Dario predicted, so I just assume every task that can be fucked up will be fucked yo by AI at least 20% of the time, so nobody except losers with higher chance of fucking things up trusts it.
>But coding
You can fix coding, and coding is the one thing where they brought the chance of fucking up on each step down to 1% and given it self checking abilities to fix its fuckups through error logs.

>>

Im not. But its normalfag core.
Also the main characters suck hard this time around, and the map is lame. Also the setting is lame, they couldve done something cool like a GTA in the past again like vice city was

Ill still buy it though, when its on sale 5 years from now and on PC. I enjoyed the single player usually

GTA type game in a unique setting could work well. But rockstar is probably too scared to make fun of any other nations culture. Also normies wont buy anything set in a location they dont know, so with their budget that only leaves sunny coast american cities full of diversity to work with. Some daring indie team will have to make GTA: Mumbai, GTA: Dubai, etc.

I just put "Created by [name]" or something like that.

Anything behind that is weird. I hate when solo devs list a million roles like "animator" "programmer" etc. and just write their name over and over because they think it's quirky.

Most successful "solo" games are not actually solo. It's just some guy saying it's solo but he actually hired a bunch of contractors to do most of the work.

In every western country, any company with more than a few dozen employees must employ a roughly even ratio of men and women, or they'll be leaving themselves vulnerable to very costly discrimination lawsuits. DEI is legally mandatory, and not something companies engage with willingly. This results in companies hiring an excess of useless women who are unable to contribute to the production of the actual product (video games in this case). Thus, the company is forced to invent bullshit jobs to occupy their time, lest they use their free time to sabotage the company out of boredom.

maybe my life is shit cause i spend every day going on youtube, 4chan and discord and trying to find something meaningful on it. yet all i'm doing is going in circles, trying to progress by changing nothing.
on the other hand i have a theory that humanity isn't perfect and it's fine to just enjoy the repetition and the slight variations. cause trying to "find something better" can also drive you crazy, especially cause it's a carrot on a stick that keeps moving.

I would say it's like half and half. Many of them having middle management roles where they just like schedule meetings and pretend to know how to help the dev team work faster.
>>
>>579312809
>I hate when solo devs list a million roles like "animator" "programmer" etc. and just write their name over and over because they think it's quirky.
wtf am I supposed to write if I did everything except music and localization? I can't say everything is made by me, but art and programming was, and I recorded my own sound effects.
>>
>>579319239
50% is quite a lot.

The thing with something like game development is, trying to find people who can actually contribute is already difficult because it's such an autist / artistic thing and then finding people who can work together is even harder.
I try to get people to help me with my projects but even when I give the easiest possible tasks they'll take literal years to get it done, if at all. Even if I try to set a timeframe.

>>579319347

The way they are perceived online.

ConcernedApe is just seen as the most successful indie dev who works on his games passionately.

Hideo Kojima seen as an attention whore who is butt buddies with that Game Awards guy. He is seen as a great developer too but people also make fun of him for constantly seeking attention.

San Andreas was the only one that had any charm. The pre-SA ones play really stiff and the post-SA ones feel mega corporate.

That's not Toby Fox. Or Binding of Isaac guy. Or Jon Blow.
>>

Blow is seen as some washed up incel.

Binding of Isaac guy lost points when he let Chris-chan and other controversial people voice a character in his game recently.

Toby Fox seen as creator who only makes things for autistic theater kids.

Gamedevs are not celeberties. If you go outside (something which I know you haven't done in a long time) and ask 100 random people if they know any of these names, most likely 100/100 would have no clue.

Masculine my dick, the game won't even let you eat your own cattle, it's an estrogen onions overdose. Even Palworld lets you butcher your pals and cook them.
>>
>>579323289
I don't believe Eric thought too hard about it. It wasn't a mechanic in Harvest Moon, which were E-for-everyone games designed for young children, and so he simply didn't add it.
>>
>>579323780
>and so he simply didn't add it.
He LITERALLY added it and then removed it in a later patch dumbass, you can find his blog article about it.

Interesting thing. A developer posted his 16 second trailer once, then posted it again with the exact same scenes except changed up a bit. One got 4k views, the other got 800k views.
The first 3 seconds seems to have made a huge difference.

is 15% refund rate good or bad
>>
>>579327520
>You have to be some level of obsessed to know.
Or you could have played the fucking game when it still had it in the early build, and then later notice when he removed it, jackass. And you of course look up the patch notes to see WHY it was removed.
But never mind
>it never happened
>okay it did happen, but it doesn't matter, stop caring
If this is the level of arguments we're having here, I'm done.
>>
>>579327691
very good. is that your game?
>>
>>579327691
Bad. More than 50% of players are done with the game within the refund window = the game is far too short. If it wasn't already so cheap, you'd see a higher refund rate. Most players aren't going to bother filling out the form for a measly $5.
>>
>>579327881
I'm saying these things in response to your original statement that
>No one with more than two digit levels of testosterone cares about SV.

I've also owned SDV since before 1.0 and have beaten the game multiple times, but I don't really care about it enough to memorize a decade worth of patch notes.
>>
>>579327887
no some twitter dude, I was just curious what are the numbers for an average game
>>
>>579300205
Phantasy Star Online with modernized gamefeel and controls, and a bit more class identity. That's really it. I know it would sell millions if done well but I just don't have the required skill set to do it well enough. I hope to get there one day.

>>579312540
Make it a bit physics based and goofy and you got a top seller. A bit of Gang Beasts mixed in there or something like that. You might even get away with parodying Link as the character. Give it a round head and those horrible bulging eyes and Link's hat and tunic in different colors for each player.
>>
can I just download a 2d tileset and then make cubes in blender and apply the texture to each side and just use that as models in my game
why wouldn't itw ork
>>
>>579327691
Seems normal, probably slightly high due to the playtime as the other anon mentioned.

The average and median is around 10% refund rate. 15% for a game under ~2 hours is decent considering basically everyone can refund it.
>>
>>579327691
Outside of steam, if you have a “refund rate” (chargeback) of over 1% your merchant account gets terminated.
So yeah 15% is bad.

>but I don't really care about it enough to memorize a decade worth of patch notes.
I didn't memorize a decade's worth of patch notes either. But I remembered the estrogen-fueled blog post about how killing for meat is bad. (And lost some of my respect for him there.)
But again, you said it didn't happen, when it actually did. I still heard no apology from you for trying to have an argument despite being ignorant on the topic and wasting my time. We will continue this conversation when you're man enough to owe up to your mistakes.

what would you describe this style
>>
>>579328975
Steam has a super generous return policy so it's not crazy that it's so high. Plus games are weird compared to most products because it has to interact with a user's PC which has a good chance of having terrible hardware that can't run a lot of things.
>>
>>579329369
I specifically said
>I don't believe
because I was making an assumption without much understanding of the topic, which turned out to be wrong, and I am perfectly fine with admitting that my assumption was wrong.

Normal players of any game aren't going to bother to read any patch notes ever. When are you going to admit that you have less than two digits of testosterone by your own accusations?
>>
>>579329725
Claudecore
>>
>>579299707
Honestly I think in the entire history of videogames no one has actually yet made a perfect game. Think about it. We had all this time to think and experiment with this medium but we're in 2000 + 20 + 3x2 and we're still doing things like the story being entirely separate from the game, or only connected with a dumb excuse.

No one has yet made a video game that is like the Beethoven or Shakespeare equivalent of video games or even comes close to it.
>>
>>579329369
I agree that ConcernedApe is totally gay and faggy. He is a cucked beta from the Seattle area who had his game funded by his rich mommy gf at the time. I've noticed that most men who play SV are literally gay a lot of the time, but most "Harvest Moon type" farming sims are basically designed for women so it's not shocking.
>>
Is sorc really that bad on this server? I only got to 9 on gunner with the dcs and loading screen issues but I'm not sure if I'm feeling it.
