Think about it this way: FFXVI cost $60m to make. The Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy cost $360m and 10 years to make, assuming Revelation has the same budget. What Square Enix *could* have done is they could have made a Final Fantasy VII Remake as 1 game with a $60m budget. On its own, I believe the VII Remake series would have been improved by simply being a single game, and I think most of the general gaming population would agree with that. But secondarily, this would have freed up $300m of budget and, what, ~7 years of dev time? We could have hypothetically had five (5!!) additional Final Fantasy games instead of having Rebirth and Revelation. I did try to play XIII-2 one time, since I heard it was better, but it was literally unplayable on my computer, and I didn't feel like fucking around with literally necessary third party fixes just so that I can play the sequel to one of my least favorite Final Fantasy games of all time. I do admit though that I need to revisit XV at some point. I think I can play it without expecting Versus XIII now, but I'm still not looking forward to it.

I thought Prime Mode cheese would be enough to get through the latter fight of the Archfiends since heavy chains do the perfect amount of damage to take out each of King Zhu's wings, but it complicates things to have Jaborwok there in tandem trying its best to fuck your face at the same time. Makes me think I need to reconsider having Aerith on "nuke Quetzocoatl" duty and put her on party 2 so she can dual cast those wings off.

And I remember having XIII-2 run with Cheat Engine tables and cranking the difficulty up so high that, basically, every pack of weak dogs would kill me. But thanks to that, I finally kinda grasped the point of the game’s combat system: it’s a unique feeling, but it forces you to think not in terms of turns, as in turn-based games, nor in terms of reactions and combo chains, as in action-oriented combat systems, but rather in terms of cycles and intervals. I'd say this is largely because bosses and enemies in general kinda have their own behavioral cycles, and bosses sometimes switch between different modes of behavior, to which you must react by countering one cycle of actions with your own counter-cycle. And I remember that the question of whether to fill the ATB gauge completely or partially with actions also became very important right away, right from the very first boss, so here's the idea of intervals. There was just no fucking way to beat the game by just spamming commands and maxing out the bar. Especially with bosses like Aloeidai—for example. In the battle against him, you sometimes had to use shorter chains of actions to stay alive, just to stay alive.tldr - XIII and XII-2 peak of gaming, Vanille best, Claire Goddess, but what else is new?Also very nice mod.
