Honestly this wasn't an experience was able to see at the beginning. Coming out of QA I honestly wasn't expecting to like it that much. But I found AA to be very strong and it ended with probably one of the most potent, bittersweet endings I've seen.I do want to say that Beatrice is probably one of the most heart-destroying characters I've had the chance to dive into.I could probably write about her forever if I wanted to, bit by bit, piece by piece. There are layers upon layers to unpack. She's very "real" in that sense.Again I'm honestly shocked. The way episode 8 recontextualized the entire story made a massive impact for me. I can't pretend that QA didn't drag, but the content within the story itself contained in those episodes is still golden regardlessI honestly find Umineko to either be:1. One of the most hopeful, heartfelt messages I've ever read (with "love")2. One of the most painful, soul-destroying, unfair works I've ever come across (without "love")Your outlook on the story will change your view on the ending 100%I honestly love the way Higurashi ties into the storyBern, Lambda, & Featherine added a lot of context with how Ryu07 viewed the story. He made lots of criticisms at himself and also at his audience. Ultimately I feel that he likes Higurashi for what it is and I'm happy for it.Question Arcs: 7/10Answer Arcs: 10/10Overall: 10/10Episode 8 may be my only episode as a 10 but I feel that it rounds everything off perfectly that came prior and solidifies all of the characters and overall plot.

Hi, I read the entirety of Umineko as it came out and I feel like I'm being generous when I give it a 4/10. It's a convoluted mess that reads like it was written by a 12 year old. The Japanese fanbase refuses to so much as give Ryuukishi the time of the day nowadays for good reason.Honestly, I find the extent to which the western fanbase is obsessed with Umineko to this day to be frightening in a sense. I have no idea how you guys can drone on about it day after day nearly six years after the final episode was released; Ryuukishi is a hack who has no idea how to actually tell a story that does anything except continually bait the reader with red herrings and empty promises of greater themes. He's been like this since Higurashi and will never improve, either on a technical level or as a storyteller in general.Like I said, almost no Japanese fan cares about Ryuukishi nowadays, and it's more than people just being pissed off about episode 8 of Umineko (people were pissed off about Minagoroshi and Matsuribayashi long before then, anyway). It's because they've had enough exposure to him to see through his tricks and stop falling for his brand of spectacle and sophistry. And yes, his terrible, childish text is part of the problem too - there are parts of Higurashi that have such embarrassingly poor writing that they're used as copypasta on 2ch.I don't know how the western fanbase continues to put up with Ryuukishi, and I honestly feel that it's damaging to the community as a whole to continue to obsess this much over a single work so long after the fact. The amount of Umineko discussion is one of the reasons people who read untranslated eroge feel so disconnected from the broader western fanbase, and it's not hard to see how stifling this level of obsession can be if you take a step back.

The more time I spend with Astra, the more depressed I get. 99% - 100% is now basically a complete given, I'm more surprised whenever there's a flat-out comprehension error than not. The translations are extremely accurate and I think basically any human would do worse without multiple TL check passes. I'm almost getting too lazy to compare the JP to the Eng directly because I know I'm basically never going to find a problem. The only thing left for me to focus on is the style. But style is something humans suck with too. Japanese character voice is just hard to preserve in English - we don't have keigo, sentence-enders, Japanese style pronouns, this level of masculine/feminine speech distinction, etc. It's ALWAYS going to be a matter of abandoning original character voice and rebuilding a new one in English. So sure, these Oretsuba MTLs don't really "feel" like the original characters, but would any human translation...? What exactly should I be nitpicking?After just one afternoon of this I already feel bored because the conclusion is so obvious. Astra fucking destroys humanity.
