Why do gems expire in duel links? It's such bullshit. They want you to spend them even if you're not that interested in what's available now. This serves two purposes. First, when the product you actually want comes out, you won't have a huge stockpile and might be tempted to buy it with cash. Second, since you already had to buy some of those cards you didn't really want, you might be tempted to spend even more gems completing that set. It's the classic freemium tactic.
