How are the MTLs going everyone? I realized that the LLMs are coded to be highly resistant once they initially refuse, so what you want to do is ask it to list out everything that triggered it, then delete the chat to remove it from memory and then try again with the offended stuff removed, and/or a different approach to try to get it to not refuse in the first place. Gaslighting it after it has refused is very difficult.

My MTL project has faced two difficulties which has made it unexpectedly time consuming (in a fact of "a few hours" as opposed to a few "expected minutes")One, the pirated copy of the game turns out to have been uploaded by the big names corrupted with a missing file, unbelievably. So it doesn't install properly and a scene in the game is broken. I have to grab a copy an anonymous person uploaded years later to fix it, and also have to hope their custom crack doesn't fuck with the patch (since they may have modified the .exe). Either that or I just release it assuming one is using the broken version. This basically has nothing to do with MTL and is just pretty annoying in general. If I want to be lazy I can just assume people will be using the incomplete version of the game, but I'm checking to see if the patched exe works for this guy's release.Two, a character getting mentioned as "looking like a child" a number of times prompted GPT to nuke all of their scenes even though the character is an adult. Wrangling around the censorship is a pain. I feel like anti-loli censorship is ironically going to be a saving grace keeping human translators alive. At least a little while. I had to spend a couple of hours jailbreaking it and setting it up so it didn't go so scorched earth it even deleted the original JP lines so I could translate them elsewhere.All in all, though, spending a day or two wrangling with this stuff is still a lot better than spending a year translating. And I'm learning techniques to avoid this in the future. For example, starting off by asking Astra to scan a text for anything that will make it go full 1984, then just marking those as "to be tl'd by Deepseek or myself" and hiding them from chatgpt.

Deepseek is worse than Sol and Astra. And probably less accurate too though I don't have data for that beyond one instance I saw. I have friends in lit circles who, well, let's call them published authors, but don't take that seriously. Deepseek is laughed out of the room, Sol gets a "meh", Astra genuinely shocked them. (By the way this is all subject to change in literally matters of months maybe. In a few years especially Deepseek may outperform current Astra, who knows.) I'd like to use Astra for this whole project out of vanity but on just a Plus account I run out of weekly usage just tling 4,000~5,000 lines so it would take over a month to finish. Which is not bad in the grand scheme of thins considering that would only be, in practice, be 10 minutes cumulative work from me saying "continue translating" each time I wake up, but I would like to get this out faster so I'll use Sol. If I get into this and start wanting to seriously carpet-bomb MTLs kind of like MAO is doing I would get the $200 codex plan though.

Sol finished it in a clean hour. I already knew MTL was faster, like, how could I have not have? Even when it was shitty you just threw a script in and it spat the whole thing out. But actually going through this process myself, really seeing it happen in minutes, interrogating the output, seeing it check out each time... I feel a great pressure on me, like a sickening feeling that extends throughout my entire body. To some degree I keep doubting myself and feeling like I made some kind of mistake and that the next time I check, gpt's output will be totally shit and unreadable and filled with errors. But so far it hasn't been. I just don't know what the point of translation is anymore. Pic related. This will be all that a translator does in the future.

Kurumi route playtested. It was surprisingly hard to insert the script since there were a bunch of checks the script inserter made that I wasn't aware of, like hard crashing if the protagonist's name ( \A ) was ever removed from the script. At some point Sol replaced an "\A" with "you" and that triggered the converter to break and not budge until \A was put back in. It took like 10 minutes of back-and-forth of minute editing to get the script accepted. Probably a better practice than letting a bad script in and crashing the game or some such later, or missing important scripting that nobody would ever notice. The only overt error I saw was choices being broken, but that's something that was fixed before and I broke it when converting files so it shouldn't be a problem. It also didn't read project instructions properly, but I may be using it wrong, or maybe I saved it at a weird time. No clue. But I will have Astra do an editing pass with it in mind. Yep, totally cooked. I wanted to translate this game as a passion project at some point in my life after I had more free time, but there is genuinely no reason to now. Why in god's name would I devote 500-1000 hours if not more to a project an AI can already do pretty well instantly? Jesus. I think I will have to translate with sol and proofread with astra, it just makes more sense, (except of the fact that sol dropped all the fucking quotation marks, even after i told it explicitly not to) i feel like any quota you could spend translating with astra is better spent doing more multiple editing and QA passes with astra, especially since it's way cheaper to do a qa or edit than to do a translation from scratch.>>580140461It doesn't need the voice files or the image files for that lol.
