Maybe that's just the greedy treasure-hunting dunmer's interpretation of the history he could find, and the amulet wasn't really that important in the grander scheme. Their weapons could also originally be Gauldur's, along with other things the sons divided that history forgot. I am painting more with what there isn't than what their actually is, but that's a lot of the fun for me.
