Actually now that I think about it, Sonic himself is this fairy-like manic pixie dream figure, but characters like Tails & Amy are designed to match that "aesthetic" because Tails is the second player character who can do what Sonic does and Amy is the Minnie to Sonic's Mickey, and then that leads to Knuckles as a rival who counters Sonic, and Shadow as a dark mirror of Sonic, and then that expands further to the entire cast we have now. But the way people perceive the cast, that original intention behind Sonic himself gets forgotten by many fans because they just see a cast of colorful characters that just exist in the world. But really, each of these characters are more like mythical concepts and spirits and fairies to varying degrees.

But the main reason why that ain't true is that while most DW plots feature the Doctor dicking around in some new location and fixing shit, then fucking off to do it again next week, you can actually have Doctor Who plots about the Doctor without breaking the show Unless Chibnall writing it. And then over time, Amy's influence breaks the ice and she becomes much more openly sweet and stuff like Amy is while still being polite and stuff.
