Been playing Project Reignition. I barely remember anything from Secret Rings besides some levels and the final boss. I liked it enough that I rented it a few times from Blockbuster but overall I just memory holed this game. I'm really shocked by how much fun I'm having with this. There are some moments where the level design gets iffy because it was made as an on rails runner (and thank god you can turn that off and make him control more like the other boost games in this remake) but overall I'm enjoying it a ton. It feels like a prototype of Unleashed, and you can see a ton of the future games' DNA in here, especially Colors which doesn't surprise me since it was by the same team.The OST is also amazing, not just the vocal themes I'm talking about a lot of the instrumentals that play in the side missions. Some good underrated shit in there. A shame the original Secret Rings was ass, if we got this back in 2007 it might have been looked back extremely fondly. I hope he goes on to do Black Knight, never played it but would be willing to now.

Naka allowed Archie to exist as it was. Iizuka forced Archie to be brand compliant and kill Sonally. Ultimately culminating in rebootchie's mandates which live on today in IDW much to the western writer's hatred. The no humans thing is Sega of Japan's fault though. It's a Forces era mandate because they thought westerners hated human background characters. They lifted the mandate in 2022 but never changed the agreement with IDW so it's stuck with it foreverThe DC comic is published by DC and has no such mandate. Same for Blade of Courage. The two worlds mandate was also lifted in 2022. We know this. It isn't a debate. These are confirmed things. Ian said multiple times that before Frontiers IDW was set on a literal second planet and that's why there are no humans.
Humans will return when the story calls for them, and go away when they aren't needed, just like the 2000s

IDW and Forces look like that because they misunderstood what fans wanted. They snapped it back after getting yelled at but they just don't care to apply it to IDW and they aren't going to make human NPC models until they have to so you're stuck with the Forces NPCs. If Sonic is like a fairy, then Tails is the average kid no one understands whose stuck in a miserable life. Tails is like Peter Parker before being bit by the spider, while Sonic is the living embodiment of the spider-bite itself. What makes Sonic appealing is that he is this impossible cool guy, but most people are not that. Sure, someone you know CAN be impossibly cool, you may even be so yourself. But with Sonic, being in awe at that kind of presence is the point, and Tails is the one who reflects your position as someone witnessing that, while also being the representative of the fact that you, too, CAN be just as cool yourself a do great things just like Sonic does and even more.

>>580626823Player Avatars are just one type of character archetype. Not everyone is that, but its one of the most common forms of protagonists. Spider-Man is one of the biggest examples of it. Any character can be relatable. Sonic is still a "person", of course anyone can relate to Sonic, and one of my friends self-inserts as Sonic as well. But I'm just saying that Sonic is not meant to be a character that you're supposed to project onto in the way that a character like Tails IS. One problem with how some people wanna use Sonic, is as a 'relatable' self-insert, which is directly antithetical to his core appeal as an impossibly cool force of nature. Like, it'd be like trying to force that kind of role onto the Roadrunner. It's why Coyote vs ACME makes Wile the one whose struggles we're focused on, in a way that feels ... well, relatable to anyone that feels like their life is an endless cycle of pushing a boulder up a tall mountain only for it to keep rolling back down. The Roadrunner represents the impossible, unattainable goal you're aimed on achieving. And the message is, to keep trying, no matter how many times you fail. It might not be today or tomorrow, but someday you might succeed. That is not the only kind of story that exists, but its the kind of story that characters like Sonic & Tails are best suited for from opposite ends. Not that Coyote vs ACME one specifically, but you get the idea. Sonic represents an unattainable ideal, and Tails is someone who aspires to reach that ideal. At the end of the day, that is who they both are and the roles they fill in this series.
