>What the heck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as Age of Decadence, A Hat in Time, Axiom Verge, Baba Is You, Battle Brothers, Battlerite, Card City Nights 2, Cave Story, CrossCode, Cultist Simulator, Darkwood, DashBored, Dead Cells, The Desolate Hope, Disco Elysium, Environmental Station Alpha, FTL, Guacamelee!, Hollow Knight, Knytt, LISA, Lobotomy Corp, Machinarium, Middens, Monolith, Monster Train, Noita, OFF, OneShot, Rimworld, Rain World, Slap City, Slay the Spire, Starsector, Subnautica, Sunless Skies, Tooth and Tail, Underrail, VA-11 HALL-A, Yume Nikki, etc., as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Pillars of Eternity, Rayman, and Valkyria Chronicles. /jrpg/ is welcome. Idle games are cool too.

Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

I've realized the thing I hate most about RNG "roguelike" slop like STS is you never get to just have fun. You never get to play the way you want to play. You're constantly getting raped for a quarter of your hp so you never get to set up or execute your cool card interactions. You spend more time desperately spamming block so you only lose 10 hp rather than 30 hp than you ever get to spend executing a powerful combo.
So you're better off just throwing shit at the wall and waiting for RNG to make your deck broken without you having to put any effort into it.
If you go in and try to make any particular build, you'll never see the cards you want.
If you do, by some miracle, get the cards you want, you'll bottom deck them every single fight.
If you don't bottom deck them every fight, you'll only draw the useful cards when the enemy is about to smack you for 40+ damage, forcing you to blow all your energy on defense instead of doing the whole thing your deck is built around.
It's not hard. It's just fucking boring.
>>
>>581663767
just 6 more years
>>
>>581667179
Pretty much. Drones will try to defend this with "but it's fun, you need to adapt your playstyle to the deck you get", and that's not how it works. When I play Cyberpunk 2070, I do it because I have a build I like and know so much that I can enter a trance, stop thinking, and just rush from one enemy to another and carve them into pieces. I don't want to boot up Cyberpunk and find myself in a random place with a random weapon and random skills spread all around the skill tree.

I have always felt like this about these games, for more than a decade, but I always felt alone as criticism is often quickly shut down. People always say shit like "oh, but you can win 99% of the runs like this autism youtuber", yet, that was never my experience at all, and I just wanted to have fun trying different things at my leisure. I think Hades was the less worst of the bunch that I have tried, because at least you can pick your own main weapon, and that defines a lot how you play during the whole run. In games like FTL, StS and Gungeon, I was just praying for the game to give me something good the whole time. In StS, the game can give you card rewards or artifacts that don't have synergy with each other (with other rewards), you can get unlucky with card draw, you can get exactly the elite or boss that is designed to counter your type of deck, there are so many layers of RNG.

>>581667680
>"but it's fun, you need to adapt your playstyle to the deck you get"
that and the idea of runs being different each time and "infinite replayability" (Steam even made a sale with this theme once), yet, you are just running the same map/stage every time with minor variations, the same enemies, just repeating the same shit and throwing shit at the wall.

>waiting for RNG to make your deck broken without you having to put any effort into it.
Let's be honest, most of those games can be won consistently on the hardest difficulty with good enough skill and planning. If you stopped talking about how winning is out of your hands, you'd have a better time discussing this problem, because it is a problem, and it's easy to dismiss when you try to lump in excuses for incompetence.

You're more or less right, the worst part about many roguelites is you rarely have an opportunity to create a build, with how unreliable your choices can be throughout the playthrough. Even when you do get one piece of the puzzle that you'd like to assemble into a working build - the safest option is usually "Just take the universally useful thing because I'll probably not get the other pieces of the puzzle later". FTL had a massive issue with this, nobody plays missile boats or drone tenders because burst laser and flak are the kings of reliability.

This is actually something a lot of roguelite devs are waking up to, and they're trying to give their players a way out by introducing various drop rate skewing tools.
>Synthetik
Priority tokens. Make 5 chosen items more/less likely to appear.
>Wizard of Legend
Can hard-set 3 out of 5 of your starting spells, can hard-set the first item you start with.
>Lost Castle 2
Items are divided into categories and you are more likely to get items within the category you already own, so your build becomes more consistent as you play.
>Sephiria
Takes inspiration from all 3 - starting items, category skewing, priority tokens.
>Rogue's Tale
You can't survive off RNG alone, you need to learn how to play the game properly, and once you do - you'll be able to just dungeon-crawl and farm gold until you can brute force a perfect build without a single flaw.

That's a technical limitation if anything, and probably a bug. It's an ancient save that's got all sort of uncleanable junk on it by now. It has had hundreds of different mods over the years and somehow it still works. Mostly. Dev console reports a much higher number of map markers than what actually exists in most regions and surveying the map almost freezes the game in worst cases. Maybe I should clearing the survey maps through console and manually re-surveying everything.

it's the second DLC. Adds the rift which is kind of similar to the underworld from Nioh 2, specifically the depths i guess. Bunch of randomized floors that are just short sections of previous levels with different goals to do(kill enemies, bosses or just reach the end)
and fight gilgamesh every couple floors. Which I kinda liked a lot since he does the same thing you do and switches between jobs/weapons doing the same quick cancels you can do.

All that looting of greater vaults and shit, and instead I get it from a random scroll of Acquire. Go figure.

The weapons; An axe that gives cold immunity, all stats and perfectly fills up the holes in my resistances, and a crossbow that gives +10 speed and not much else.
The accessories: Two of the three rings of power for fire and electric immunity each, some stats and +10 speed between them. The necklace is the same one Frodo was given in LotR.
The armour: 'Bladeturner at home:" (to be replaced with Bladeturner when I can get it), a cloak with acid immunity, a shield mostly there to sustain my Wisdom and provide more AC, the Golden Crown of Gondor, the best statted pair of ego gloves I've seen to provide +5 Dexterity, and of course my boots of Feanor that made all this possible. The other stuff was hard to hunt for, but the boots I had to win the lottery for.

Gives me 4x immunity, resist basically everything, 4.0x movement speed, and super unusually I've nothing with "aggravate creature" as a downside, so I can go full stealth mode without waking up entire rooms of enemies if I want to.
I'd go kill the final boss now, but it's too late I need to go sleep. I'll probably grind for Bladeturner after that, I've always wanted to complete an ultimate set of equipment but lacking the Leather Boots of Feanor always made it impossible.

>Let's be honest, most of those games can be won consistently on the hardest difficulty with good enough skill and planning.
A lot of the stats suggest otherwise. STS1 has like a 40-60% win rate on Ascension 20 even among top players, aside from the Watcher character, which apparently has a ~90% win rate because one of its most broken combos is very easy to get.

>"Just take the universally useful thing because I'll probably not get the other pieces of the puzzle later"
This is a good point and exactly what a lot of "pro" advice sounds like. They all say, "Avoid randomness and focus on reliability." In STS2 guides, they'll tell you that boring options like "remove one starter card" are far superior to more interesting options like, "get a random rare card" for this reason.

>This is actually something a lot of roguelite devs are waking up to, and they're trying to give their players a way out by introducing various drop rate skewing tools.
Thinking about it, the only game similar to these that I've played that seems to handle this issue well might be Risk of Rain 2. I think it's because cautious play and skill at evading and shooting can carry you through several maps of RNG until you get some good combos.

Well still technically true, isn't it? Just play Watcher, lolz rolf zozle.

Ye, that's why you shouldn't mention it. You'll get drowned out in optimizier spergotry and to a layman you will look like you're wrong, because you technically are, even though listening to you would lead to more fun games. Purity of purpose. Don't let some autistic faggots kick up a fuss about skill issues, keep the discussion strictly within the framework of entertainment value. Will make it harder to derail your criticism (though make no mistake, some will still try because they have no empathy and to them the only reason for someone do dislike something they like is if they're bad at it), and increase the chances of devs listening. I'm pretty sure doing it that way contributed to Sephiria and Lost Castle 2 devs reducing the random factor and making it more fun for everyone, because all the complainers never had any issues clearing the game, they were just bored with how shallow their builds were.

>cautious play and skill at evading and shooting can carry you through several maps of RNG until you get some good combos.
That's a bad sign that you said that, it suggests that you're okay with subpar build diversity as long as you can make up for it with skill. Risk of Rain games have some of the worst itemization in the industry with barely any synergy or depth.

Lore reason is that the chassies are mass produced according to Zeph. The pirates have to steal them during raids. That there's a quest where the Macrovari pretend to be veilers suggest they can pilot other things to begin with.
Out of reason is I'm guessing it's what the dev could model.

I wishlisted it but I'm on the fence about it. It looks like it's a little too faithful to morrowing, including looking and playing like shit, but maybe that's just bad first impressions.

You could try Ardenfall as well. Its main advantage is being an actually fun videogame and not being irredeemably hideous, but its game director is a lefty cuck so it might end up being toothless and safety-foam padded.
>>
>>581762758
I couldn't learn to parry until I fought the final phase of the final boss, but I think the right way to parry is to move in the direction of the enemy and click AFTER they attack you. So you can't be already moving, that'll throw off the parry. It's pure cancer and one of the many reasons this game is nothing more than a funny ironic meme, but that's how it works.
>>
>>581764156
>not being irredeemably hideous
Really? Cause that cell shaded stuff looked absolutely fucking awful to me
>>
>>581764280
I mean, I get the idea it's like in fighting game where you can do perfect blocks by moving toward the enemy. It's just that my controller's broken, so lining up the enemy, pressing in his direction with the arrow keys WHILE clicking is insanely hard.
Monsters are okay but the first boss, the attack dogs? He double-perfected me.
>>
>>581764156
>including looking and playing like shit
It plays better than Morrowind by virtue of not having dice roll combat, but it does look a lot worse than it.
I beat it but I'd my two biggest issues were that even though the game loves to brag about how it has no quest markers, it gives absolutely zero direction for many quests as a result, while this also adds absolutely nothing to the game. It also lacks Morrowind's minimap and note system so finding your way around is way harder.
Second issue is the lack of variety in areas. There's a whole three tilesets (ruins, caves, other kind of ruins).

I need to try out Tainted Grail next I feel like

What's bad about that? I think skill should play a bigger role than RNG. I do great at tactics and strategy games. RTS games, 4X games, X-Com style games, RimWorld and Dwarf Fortress, etc.

The only type of game that seems to give me any trouble are the ones that are heavily reliant on RNG where the core "skill" seems to be juggling 20+ different probabilities in your head and making choices that may suck for the next 8-16 fights but have a ~50% chance of paying off and saving your ass in one or two other fights.

And I can beat those. I've cleared A20 on every Spire 1 character and A10 on every Spire 2 character. It's just incredibly, incredibly, incredibly boring to play that way.

Just finished Blue Fire

Had a great time with it. 3D platformer, a lil bit metroidvania but mostly linear with a hub world.
There are optional voids which are platforming challenges which are all quite fun. Some can be frustrating but you get enough upgrades later to where you can go back and have an easier time.
You can play with base abilities or use spirits which actually change the game up by giving you an extra jump etc.
Combat is meh, but everything else is quite fun. After just playing a handholdy game it was nice to have something that just dropped me in and kept guidance to a minimum. I was even stuck a few times which was a nice feeling. It's never obtuse tho

I couldn't find anything the devs did after this which is a shame

>I only played the first asscreed and counters were abominable. Only reliable way to fight, and entirely impossible to lose with.
Yeah. The later games tried to fix that, but counters still stay the meta. I remember combats in Brotherhood being very confusing because enemies only seemed to lose health when you hit them, but they seemed to block your hits until you landed one killing blow.
Sure, it looked more realistic than swinging your sword at someone and causing them to bleed and lost 5 HP, but still. I felt like combat never worked.

I'm still trying to look for decent open world sailing games. With a character creator and all the other bells and whistles, something to properly immerse myself in. So far I've not been very successful. Horizon's Gate is good, but I had an autistic hang-up with it and stopped playing. Windward Horizon seems kind of interesting, but also not THAT interesting. Salt 2 was an embarrassment because there's no naval threats and the sea is just a glorified overworld, no sea monsters or anything, strictly land combat.
I generally feel bad about the lack of "vehicular" open world games, be it boats or cars or tanks or hoverbikes or fucking anything at this point. The closest we got was FUMES and that one's gameplay kinda sucks and the open world is meaningless.

I suspect we WERE alike up until I got an engineering degree and an ADHD diagnosis. Before then, I loved untangling the randomness and chaos of roguelikes, even if it meant that they lost all of their fun when you "solved" them.
But in the course of getting my degree and getting therapy for my neurodevelopmental disorder, I had to learn to get past long analyses of complex issues and just start making less than ideal choices and trusting that I'll figure out how to make them work in the future. So now I have to force myself to "solve" roguelikes instead of focusing on making snap decisions and adapting to the consequences.

>Salt 2 was an embarrassment because there's no naval threats and the sea is just a glorified overworld, no sea monsters or anything, strictly land combat
...welp. I'm taking it out of my wishlist.
I really love Man O'War Corsair because it plays like Mount and Blade, but it's insanely buggy and janky. I just wish Sea of Thieves had more content for solo people because everyone I know saw it was PvP and refused to play it with me.

Valheim had interesting ideas about the movement since you can make ships and handcarts to quickly move a lot of stuff at once, but I despise the random world generation.

I like Sea of Thieves because you can fish, you can cook, the weapons are fun, the quests are interesting, and I love that you can cook food to stock up on health for later, or you can just get drunk and puke on the canonneer.
What pisses me off is that you don't want to because the game is furiously competitive, so if you get drunk and puke on the helmsman, you're actively sabotaging your own team.
>>
>>581774596
Those sound like very minor and very specific advantages. I personally just wanna explore the world and go on adventures and maybe engage in some organized war machine combat, like with ships.
>>
>>581775320
>Those sound like very minor and very specific advantages
I mean, I love minor things. I like Sea of Thieves because it's that kind of game where every item you can use has at least 2 uses. Like, the shovel can be used to dig out treasures, but also dig out worms to use as bait, or even bury treasures.
It's a fun game that's full of little things, but because it's so ferociously competitve, you bet that you never use the blowpipe or the blunderbuss because the meta is to use the musket, and using anything else will get you labelled as a noob.
And, well, I get you. I had a lot of fun with a game called Blackwake, where everyone needs to pick up a specific task for optimal efficiency, but the game is "only" team deathmatch, there's no exploration or adventure.
There's Abandon Ship, but it's more like FTL but on a ship.
>>

How no guidance are we talking. I like figuring things out but I don't like just being lost and having no real sense of direction. Blue Fire didn't tell me to go places but it left enough openings to where it wasn't too hard to figure out.
I'll definitely look at Zefyr, appreciate the recs. Blue Fire is janky but it's one of those games where the jank works in its favour because it creates some freedome in the gameplay to where you can exploit it

Picked up The Message from Deep Space a couple days ago and haven't been able to put it down. Not huge into puzzle shit but the premise seemed interesting & unique enough and I find radio astronomy and linguistics in general really fascinating.

Was a bit skeptical at first but it's pure kino. Can't believe I hadn't heard of this before last week. I have to suspend my disbelief a bit for a few narrative decisions regarding the ayylmaos but it's overall surprisingly grounded and I somehow actually started fucking caring about the faceless text boxes that are your "colleagues". The actual STEM problems so far could've been a bit harder but I get that the focus lies with the language decoding and I'm somehow barely even a quarter in anyways despite playing for like 10 hours.

On that note, is Chants of Sennaar any good? I know it has a similiar focus but the presentation has always put me off.

>>

>how are you finding the new ID changes for vanilla angband
ID? You mean how it handles item identification now?
My review for how I've felt playing this:
I'm really glad they got rid of the old system of every item being unknown until you used an identify spell on it, identifying a specific rune and knowing from then on what that rune is, is a really cool mechanic and I appreciate it quite a bit. I also vaguely remember there being potions of death or other bullshit to kill you randomly if you blindly tested everything and not having to worry about that shit was great.
The curse system is a bit less good, the curses feel too strong for what you're given. Early on I found a metal shield of [resistance] or something with two curses of 76 strength on them or something and they were completely impossible to remove without me being like level 40 and personally casting it, and even then if I failed once or twice it'd break so it was almost useless to me. By the time I finally got strong enough to remove the curses at all, I was finding better items. Either the curse strength needs to be reduced a bunch, or a little bit and items don't break if you fail to remove a curse twice.
Still fuck summoning monsters, I usually play classes with good AOE and don't have to care too much but this run I've had to spam Single Combat until my fingers bled. It was fun despite that though.
>>
>>581813148
Oh yeah, the other thing I wanted to mention is that I really wish money was more useful, I basically spent no money from floor 30 onwards after buying stat potions, the Black Market never ever had interesting items as I went down and by the time I finally had a decent amount of money there was never anything to buy with it.

You say that, but then you mention Risk of Rain, a game where builds practically don't exist, and it's all a shallow mush, and you say that's a good example of game itemization, when at the end of the day it "solves" the problem of unfun RNG the same way - makes you carry the weight yourself.

I mean to be fair, it has 5 of every stat and speed, sustains them, immunity to the four base elements and resist a ton of others and other bonuses, it's basically an entire equipment build in one item. As long as you keep your exp topped up and go kill Morgoth fast, then the drain is irrelevant.
Plus hey, it's *The* ring itself, they made three books + films about it and everything. Comes with prestige.

>lethal poison counts as an accident kill
Hitman is weird and the kind of shit you can get away with is really funny. I assume everyone in the world of Hitman suffers from massive brain damage and can't come to the most basic conclusions.
finished the Hitman 2 campaign now. Will probably kill snoop dogg tomorrow and then get to hitman 3.
i should have turned off that mission guidance shit earlier. They do seem annoying to find on your own but it is a lot more fun to just come up with your own jank solutions the first time on a map.
>>
>>581847304
That's not my problem, that's my character's problem.
>>
>>581847693
the happy medium is "minimal" guidance, which tells you what is expected of you to get the cheevo/mastery unlock but not where it is or how to find it.

also if you turn minimap "target indicator" settings to minimal it also hides their location on the main map unless they're very close. if you then also turn off instinct wallhacks you can genuinely lose track of the targets and have to search for them.

the great thing about hitman is the more UI assistances you turn off the more you notice how much effort has been put into level design and signposting and subtle guidance to make it playable without the AAAA+ HUD clutter.
>>
>>581847693
Lethal poison is not an accident, it's an undetectable kill. At least it was in the first and second games of the world of assassination trilogy. What's the difference? It will fail "accident kill" objectives and shows a different score message.
>>
>>581850081
yeah, the elusive targets i did so far were really fun just because you can't see them with the instinct vision BS. I guess i might turn that down in general too.
And actually scouting out the place and making a plan before having to fully commit to it is a great feeling.
I did fuck up The Politician somehow and didn't get SA even though i killed her with a gas explosion when she goes for a smoke. For some reason it still counted as a body found which annoyed me greatly.

>>

>>
>>581847693
I always figured that they're only declared as accidental kills by the rent-a-cops on the scene. An actual police investigation would figure out that it was a murder, but by that point 47 is already at the other side of the world, so it doesn't matter.
>>
>>581852986
apparently that mission is the only one where lethal poison counts as an accident kill. that's weird.
>>
>>581854095
Definitely smaller, also more focused on sidequests rather than blind exploration for the sake of it. Archery is a joke, magic is strong but pretty constrained by the spells available. I ended the game beating people to death with a wand because a combination of perks and item attributes sent my melee damage through the roof while I was wielding it, but unfortunately the game is weird about dual-wielding/having a shield in the off-hand without a weapon in the main hand. Still good for 60-100 hours of fucking about in the woods. DLC is solid but has some overpowered nonsense.
>>
>>581853185
Normal rings can be destroyed by lightning attacks sometimes, but that's the only type of damage that can destroy rings specifically, so it's specifying that it's immune to that effect.
>>
>>581855307
I actually enjoyed doing sword+sorcery in the demo so far. Primarily because unlike Skyrim I can actually defend myself via dashes. I wonder if this game will make spellsword hybridization actually worth it unlike vanilla Skyrim where it's a worthless gimmick.
>>
>>581855307
>>581858502
Speaking of sorcery, does it have that liquid concentrated megafaggot AIDScancer called "Hard Immunities" that infests games and makes their buildcrafting unforgivably shit? You know, how speccing into Frost in vanilla Skyrim is worthless because what feels like half the enemies in the game are impervious to it. I'd love to play some kind of blood mage or cryomancer sapping health from enemies or flash-freezing them, but I don't want to be caught in the same position where whoopsie daisy you can't "health-drain" a dwemer automaton so your build is worthless against most dwemer ruins.
>>
>>581854636
there's a few special cases like poisoning sierra knox in the medical checkup that count as accidents but yeah poison normally shouldn't be accident

No negotiations, no "ENOUGH. I WILL NOW USE THE MCGUFFIN OF UNLOSABLE BATTLE", no nothing. Just merked an essential main plot NPC right then and there, just like that.

Normalfags are waking up.
Vanilla Rain World was a very flawed, very stupidly designed, but accidentally marvelous experience.
Downpour was furfag fanfiction but it wasn't really obvious why it's worse than the already flawed original.
Watcher is just so ass that even the devotees are struggling to blindly praise it.

It's like Terraria has been getting worse since the start of 1.4 but several of us had to wait all the way until 1.4.5 to lose all hope for real.
>>
>>581866684
Don't listen to a single word that moron over me just said, he sounds like he sticks cacti up his ass for a living

basically, downpour was interesting but it was flawed in his additions, rain world was lightning in a bottle and managed to be an experience, downpour added a lot of interesting stuff but also kind of weird, obtuse additions that did not fit the main theme of the game
they basically forgot that less is more which was more or less the theme of the game
and with the watcher they just went completely overboard in that regard and just weaved a narrative that technically, also goes against the main storyline
I cannot recommend the watcher
I can recommend rain world
and I can tell you to grab downpour on a sale

No, they invented a whole thing about the rot actually being nice and cool and wow instead of just being junk data and basically, that's completely against what the game was going for in the first place
It also plays in a much clunky way than rain world and downpour. It really feels like a mod that got out of hand.
you'd genuinely get more playtime out of the mods than the official second DLC.
>>
>>581867907
The Watcher is lower reviewed than Stellaris and Hoi4 which require $200 of DLC to become playable. Total, and is reviewed the same as Warthunder which had a controversy over not rending enemies that were able to shoot you, and has constant mobile game monetization for updates that involve literally recycled content. I don't think I have a single mixed game in my library of controversy, mostly positive steam review is a sign that you are not liked.

>>
>>581868669
Yeah, because everyone who loved rain world hated the watcher. It's just diametrically opposed to the base game under almost every way. The fact they made people pay full price for it, and kept it broken for years, and are still fixing bugs, didn't help.
Essentially from what I remember the lead game writer and group left during the watcher and was basically just supervising during downpour
you want rain world, you should play rain world
it's a masterpiece and it doesn't overstay its welcome
if you really liked rain world, you should give downpour a try, it's pretty good if only for the waterslug, gourmand sucks ass and the scavkiller route really isn't that interesting in its own right.

That's what Redditgit is doing with Terraria right now. He just keeps adding bullshit on top of bullshit because he knows this is the only good game he's ever made or ever will make.
>NPC happiness. You now gain penalties if your NPCs all live in one village.
>Dev made a hidden change that reduced your drop rates if you didn't use biome-specific torches. The playerbase nearly tore his head off for this and he changed it to you getting a bonus for using the "correct" torches, but not getting a penalty
>Changed a bunch of names to be more inclusive and tolerant. Gypsy robe is now mystic robe. Eskimo suit is now winter suit.
>Added a shitty Calamity-esque boss that oneshots you if you fight it in certain conditions but gives you an special reward if you beat it in those conditions
>Also if you use items that give you a chance to negate all damage - that boss will arbitrarily ignore those items because NO YOU CAN'T JUST COUNTER MY WIFE'S OC (the boss actually is his wife's OC)
>Removed genders from the character creator.
>You can't get meteorite anymore unless you beat the first boss. By then meteorite is no longer a relevant material tier. This was done because someone used meteorite in a speedrun.
>Adds a new biome that you can't really work with unless you read the wiki.
>Adds a new difficulty that just gives every enemy +50% damage and health. No new mechanics.
>Adds muslim hijabs.
>Adds portraits to NPCs (were so ugly they had to add an option to remove them)
Off the top of my head.

Is there a game other than minecraft and similar where i can build and customize my own arcology/megastructure/space station? I don't want anything /egg/ if possible I just want to scratch the futuristic aesthetic itch.
>>
>>581875248
Starbound has space stations but the game kinda sucks, and the space stations REALLY suck.

Rimworld might have that but Rimworld sucks even more than Starbound does and is also disgustingly overpriced.

Keplerth is sort of a futuristic terraria-like with a top-down view (it's nothing like Rimworld, don't look at the graphics), where you will start with shitty primitive tools but eventually be able to build a neat futuristic base during lategame. It's a bit rough, and updates very slowly (devs might've straight up died by now), but it's kinda cute and has a really cool character building system. No space station, everything is on the ground.

Terraria is not even a good game, it just has a lot of content at this point. It only became big because of the time it was released.

Been playing through the Shantae games over the last few weeks. I am most of the way through The Pirate's Curse now.
Pretty fun stuff. I kind of expected it to be all horny and no substance but it manages to be a enjoyable series with likable characters and a fun to explore setting.
Anyway I want to have sex with Risky Boots in the missionary position for the express purpose of procreation.

>>581860748
Related, but I'm playing Star Vortex now, a spaceship ARPG thing, and there is this passive skill that gives you immunity piercing.
Which matters because every shield gives you immunity to one debuff.

Though for the most part the debuffs aren't that exciting, what matters more is the things that rely on them. Which you might or might not be building around. The boring one is damage vs. debuff modifiers. The more interesting one is reactions between two debuffs.

You think its no longer good? I only played when the game was already old. I think its bad as a builder because the blocks are tiny and graphics are bad, and its bad as an action-adventure because of the floaty movement and everything in combat being very basic.

I can see what I assume are remains of the original premise and gameplay loop, of going underground looking for ores and crafting stuff from simple metals, kinda charming, but I am supposed to build bases on all biomes for the npcs? And then explore the underground of all biomes to go around beating all theses bosses and looking for epic loot? If only the combat was good I would have some motivation.

I honestly don't care about hijabs, but I just found myself bored and the game looks bloated.
>>
I've never played Hitman. Start at the beginning? Did I read correctly that the newer ones are online only? I hate that shit.
>>
>>581891624
No. The first Hitman are very, very linear.
I suggest to start with Blood Money.
Hitman Contract is a solid choice too, but it relies too much on save/load since it's the kind of game where you plan your murder perfectly, you poison the cake, you bring it to the target... But then the mobs search you, and you realize you're still carrying that 12-gauge SPAS shotgun, so they instantly start popping you.
Hitman Blood Money, in constrast, has them only pushing you back, so it's a lot more permissive and friendly. And also it has actual money, so the more witness you have, the less money you make.
And I don't think they're online only, but they come with all sort of events and limited-time missions. And DLCs. Lot of DLCs. But it comes with some of the best missions in the games. I spent 90% of my playtime in Sapienza alone.
>>
>>581891624

>Metal Gear Solid was made by a 4chan NEET
Lmao that paints a picture
I think I'll have to skip worlds.
Tbh part of the problem is being a completionist (it's a disease), and never using guides so if a game isn't clear in direction I can lose way too much time
>>
>Private server
>Kernel level anticheat
>No monetization or donation
>No disclosure or end-user agreement
So many red flags. I can't believe people actually fall for something like that.
>>
>>581903629
I was also a completionist for a long time (though never to the point of my buddy who functions 100% on external validation and has repeatedly put 50+ hours into games he doesn't enjoy to grind for achievements), but in the last few years broke the habit. I still am definitely exhaustive in my exploration and backtracking but I try to set a firm line where if I don't care about the games mechanics, story, or setting I stop playing. It helps that I go through a lot of metroidvanias and the final boss of most metroidvanias is absolute dogshit.
>>
I finished Pirate's Curse and it was pretty great. Hell of a final boss although my item hoarding made him a bit trivial to beat.
Now I am a couple of levels into 1/2 Genie Hero and a bit confused. It is pretty good and all but it seems like the Metroidvania elements are basically gone right after Pirate's Curse finally got them right and now it is more of a level based action platformer than anything.
It reminds me more of Mega Man X8 than the previous Shantae games which isn't awful since I actually really like X8 but it is a weird transition.
>>
>>581909175
Pirate's Curse is the only one that's a traditional metroidvania with standard progression. Most of them are almost closer to Kirby or Monster Boy where you're gated by transformations. It's simpler platforming as a result since you can only have access to one transformation at a time, very much their own rhythm. I don't like Pirate's Curse much for that reason because while it's definitely a "better" game it's painfully generic by metroidvania standards and lacks the weird charm of the series.
>>
>>581909175
I only played about 3/4 of HGH years ago but from what I remember, it's a standard platformer with only slight backtracking for secret hunting.
>>
>>581909882
The first four (counting Advance as the second game) all have some pretty heavy Metroidvania elements what with the gated progression and focus on exploration even if they aren't quite full Metroidvanias outside of Pirate's Curse and maybe the first one.
1/2 Genie Hero so far seems more like a Mega Man game where you are playing on linear stages with some secrets that you can go back to find after getting more abilities.
I will agree that Pirate's Curse felt a bit bland from a gameplay standpoint though. I missed the transformations a lot even if I loved the game itself overall.

>>
>>581910891
That game filtered me with the boss rush I was kind of bad at the game anyway but that shit just felt like an impassable wall.
>>
>>581910891
I will say that the golden path was the single coolest thing in the game by a huge margin once I fully understood it, but also trying to actually solve it was fucking up for a reason that was masked by its complexity so I never actually beat the game.
>>
>>581891624
The first one is kinda jank and i could never get into it.
2 and contract is solid. Though i haven't replayed those in a hot minute to see if they still hold up.
Blood money is probably my favorite and i must have played that a million times.
Absolution is dogshit.
the new trilogy is pretty good.
>>
>>581891624

The new money is more about achievements: you play and replay the same map to discovre new ways to sneak in, new ways to assassinate your targets, and so on.

Why even have armor then? Might as well stick with the cheapest armor so that you can quickly die and reload instead of waiting to die while you can't move or do anything because all your systems are dead. If I had a nickel for every space game that had "armor" like this, I'd have two nickels and their names are Star Traders Frontiers and Wing Commander Privateer (or to be precise, Ascii Sector). It saddens me to see fights in those games devolve into rocket tag, never let your hull get hit ever or it's death spiral country for you.

>You think its no longer good?
Aye.

The graphics aren't bad in my opinion, and as far as 2D building goes it's the best one bar none, because it has a shitload of paints and objects and also sloping/halving that allows you to add a lot of texture to whatever build you're making. High tier builders make downright painting-like things.

The combat starts very rudimentary, but it gets carried by exploration and progression and eventually decent depth as you gather mobility tools and weird weapons.

>but I am supposed to build bases on all biomes for the npcs?
> but I just found myself bored and the game looks bloated.
Ye, the NPC base thing is cancer and it did become grossly bloated, you're right about that. Wasn't always that way thoughbeit.

>I honestly don't care about hijabs
You should. Enlightened centrism signals a profound inability to connect the dots. This is just one of many examples that pozzed leftists are simply too stupid and/or malicious to make good games. This is the real reason you go broke when you get woke.

Standard procedure for the coping Terraria playerbase leftovers. It's hard for them to accept that the genuinely wonderful game they grew up with is being enshittified with zealous fervor. You conventionally go broke, I'm sorry I forgot you trannies are autistic and you don't understand "implied but not said". It's actually very hard to make something so bad even normalfags will dislike it. Infinity War and Endgame Avengers are proof of this. But make no mistake, extremist lefties make shit content, and usually that content is so shit not even the consoomerist cattle wants it. Also 3 out of 4 of those are riding on the coattails of already popular IPs. If they weren't - they would've bombed. Helldivers 2 didn't bomb because it was a generic third person FPS, filled in the gun and ball niche for a while.

You cannot have a board that's entirely good without hand-picking every poster in it. Anything public WILL have dogshit posters in it, no matter how many times you say nigger to try and keep them out.

You would think the bodyguard of a drugdealer would assume the worst case and not that his boss just forgot how to drink.
Then again, his employer just dropped dead. I wouldn't give a shit anymore either.

I've probably been on 4chan longer than you've been alive.

Yeah, fair. But if you really want your immersion broken, I worked in security. We all knew each others, and whoever was a new face unannounced was interrogated the nanosecond they stepped in, no matter if they had the uniform. If I don't know you, you better have your badge or I'm calling the police right away.

yeah, at the end of the day it is a videogame and it should be fun first and foremost. Guy with a barcode on the back of his head is probably the most suspicious guy in any room.
Otherwise you end up with the dogshit that is Absolution where everyone in the same uniform acts as an enforcer and sees through your disguise.

It just depends on how much cancer the topic attracts. Even in 2026 there are still games that have consistently good threads.

I mean, it could work if everyone was busy, either working or with their nose literally in their phone, but then the game wouldn't be cool.
Hitman by default is just impossible. Unless you play the new games and pretend you're been infiltrating the place for weeks now until it's time to act.

If being a part of preexisting franchises or having references to other media during marketing counter acts being woke how do you explain Metroid 4, or The Last Jedi?
Let me guess what I meant was "it does" is "it does except when it doesn't"

I am fucking sick of it.

It is possible to drop the ball so many times in a row that not even the diehard fans of the franchise are willing to stick with it. The Last Jedi might've bombed, but it was no worse than The Force Awakens. And The Force Awakens was a smashing success.

You're trans and brown, anon, you cannot win an honest argument against me.

Very few asians and latino women. And none slav/indian/arab/ASEAns.
And why such disproportionated amount of women?
