I'll just post this disclaimer each day to help dissuade and educate shitposters.

>not a crpg!
VTMB2 is a CRPG under the test that it tries to recreate pen-and-paper role-playing. Tabletop Vampire is about personal and political horror, not just fighting. Bloodlines 2 captures that. You choose a clan and powers, shape your past through dialogue, and decide what to reveal and whom to trust. Characters judge your words through your past behaviors. The same answer can earn trust or cause offence. That may in fact capture a social Vampire session better than the original in some ways: reading people, managing trust and seeing past choices shape later events. These are not just scenes you watch. They are problems you solve through role-playing. Copying more stats is not the same as recreating more role-playing. The test is whether it tries to recreate tabletop play, not whether it copies every rule. I consider it a CRPG, and anyone who thinks about it with an apt mind will come to the same conclusion. If you disagree, that's fine, I invite you to simply post about something else and anons will engage with you if they find it interesting. Posting my VTMB2 playthrough does not prevent you from talking about Warhammer again. No further address will be given to you people, I am playing and posting the CRPG Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, and the only thing you can do about this is nothing. The choice to act normal or throw a fit is yours, and yours alone.

With that out of the way, let's resume.

As you may recall, we were recently named the Camarilla's sheriff of Seattle, giving us license to roam freely about the city, as well as to investigate the strange circumstances of our awakening from torpor. It's also a convenient excuse for the typical CRPG gameplay of talking to people and doing quests for them. In this case, we've been assigned to Lou, former Prince of Seattle and sire of the current Prince. For reasons unknown, Lou had abdicated her throne some years ago - unheard of - and now refuses to leave her haven. Her influence over the Prince means the court has agreed to procure Lou's meals for her, but as a Ventrue her tastes are very particular, preferring depressed women of means. A newcomer and Gangrel, Nix, was assigned to hunt for her, but with limited success. We've agreed to help out, if for no other reason than to keep a local mover-and-shaker pleased and in our corner in case we need something.

On the way out, the city's sole Lasombra and Lou's new hired goon, Onda, lets us know she has a task for us. Our former sheriff's rampage has greatly diminished the anarchs, and left many an addicted ghoul without their meal ticket. One such ghoul has started to become a serious problem. Onda was asked to deal with it, but has instead chosen to stand around not doing her job, begging for someone else to do it instead. Imagine that.

Still, it makes sense to pursue, and so I agree to the side quest. My character's thinking is fairly simple - this does represent a potential Masquerade breach eventually, and it is now my responsibility to try and deal with those. Besides, thinning the number of unruly anarchs isn't such a bad idea anyways. Between the attacks at Weaver Tower and Lou's penthouse, it's clear they're getting a little big for their britches in this town.

Fletcher, the current Ventrue primogen, has an interesting predicament. Some anarch scrawls have showed up around town, but these particular pieces of graffiti are written in kindred vitae - his. They're part of a thaumaturgical ritual being used to weaken him and restrict his movements. Beyond the professional interest in an outsider assaulting a primogen, this is interesting to my character on a personal level.

As a Tremere, other kindred and sects using thaumaturgy was a big no-no back in my day. It was never 100%, but we always did everything in our power to stomp that out and maintain our monopoly, and I take the clan seriously. If there's some rogue practitioner of our secrets out there, they need to be dealt with yesterday. We have a lot of (jealous) enemies, and the moment we're no longer the sole source of magical services to the Camarilla is the moment we're all a lot less safe.

There is of course, another possibility - while there is no chantry here, both Mrs. Thorne and Safia are my clansisters here. Could this ritual be theirs? It would be sloppy work to do something so obviously tied back to us, but it's something I'll want to consider and investigate - and cover up, if it turns out it was theirs. The clan comes first, and if Safia wants Fletcher dead, all she has to do is ask.

But on a more personal note, the incident bears a striking resemblance to my own problem - in addition to my body being marked with binding runes, I've been finding sigils painted in my own vitae all over the city, weakening me just a bit. Same M.O., same city, same culprit?

Happy to look into this for you Fletcher.

Each night when we return to the haven, we can review our case notes with Fabien. I like these conversations as they serve as a nice recap of events, though I do wish they happened when we woke up rather than before going to sleep, a much more natural save point. But I appreciate there are never any really wild leaps of logic, Fabien's detective work is pretty logically consistent. Even when you're playing as him and you have your hallucinated interrogations of corpses and inanimate objects, you're really just interacting with Fabien's own thought processes and getting only the information he would have. It's pretty well done.

As we review our notes and try to piece together a prime suspect (Katsumi and her undead socialists, obviously) Fabien takes the chance to tease me a little about our interactions with Safia. What can I say? We share a clan, and it's nice to have a kindred (get it?) spirit in such a strange time. Maybe she's a little scatter brained, but that's okay.

Each night we wake up, Fabien is trapped in my body. But each day we sleep, I'm trapped in his. Always the same strange vision of a garden in the sun and a single tree. Ordinarily we'd write it off as Malkavian madness, but we keep having flashbacks that seem connected to the following night's events. Strange.

Whoever this woman is, she's clearly upset, so Fabien does the rational thing and asks her to calm down. RPing Fabien is a lot of fun in these sections, I really like the slightly-insane noir socially inept noir detective feel. Part of what makes the CRPG genre interesting is the focus on roleplaying characters unlike yourself in situations unlike your own, and maybe this is why so many people wanted to skip poor Fabien. Insane and socially inept is a fun roleplaying experience on the computer for me, but for you I guess it's just another Tuesday. There are some differences, even undead Fabien is gainfully employed, but maybe not enough to carry it over the finish line for all.
>>
Are there any CRPGs with quick combat? I love DOS2, but man the fights can take so long sometimes, which especially sucks if it's a tough fight and you have to play it over and over again.

Most fights in VTMB2 are over fairly quickly. I manipulate the various settings for more of an in-character powerful elder feel, but even on defaults its fast. Pretty much anything real-time will be.

For turn based, I still think Baldur's Gate 3 is decently fast with only a few exceptions. Obviously the turns take forever when you're fighting a thousand mud mephits, but most fights aren't that. The only really brutal turn times are found in WOTR.

As I mentioned before, Fabien's use of disciplines to 'interrogate' inanimate objects is by far the best representation of a detective character in gaming. The root cause of all the detective vision and quest trail stuff in games is that you need the character to be an expert hunter or detective when the player controlling them might be a zoomer. So you give them yellow paint to follow, blue glowing rail lines, quest highlight vision, and so on. Here you can sort of discover details in a way that feels natural, but never steps outside of what Fabien would actually know, it never feels like a Sherlock Holmes scene. Just a lot of cool craftsmanship in these things for those with discernment enough to recognize it.

The remaining detective work is pretty standard - where was she, who was she with, did anyone see anything, whatever will help me narrow things down and find this hunter(s) before they find any more of us. There is something odd though - our job with the PD is a front obviously, with Masquerade tied cases being steered to us by our boss, kindred himself. But he knew nothing about it, the entire case was unpleasant news to him. And why would a hunter follow this girl anyways? She's not one of us, not even a ghoul. What's the connection?

We'll find out when I return in a few hours.

Against my better judgement, I'll address this again and only once. They probably aren't doing anything because it isn't actually off-topic spam. I am posting about a CRPG playthrough in the CRPG general, as intended. I recognize that you don't feel it is a CRPG, but you need to recognize that this isn't your call to make. I may consider Halo a driving game, that doesn't make it so. In fact, most of the spam today is coming from your own whining.

I remind you again that I posted a poll and asked the community here which CRPG I should play and post here, and this is the game the community selected. If your vote didn't win, that's okay, I'll be posting another poll and playing another CRPG here as soon as VTMB2 is finished. If you didn't bother to vote, well, that's your problem.

night of the raven rebalances the learning point game to force specialization and actual builds, since the base game was way too flippant and you could just do anything as a result

til this day i've never seen a better and more fine-tuned leveling system in an rpg, that fully rewards multiple playthroughs since you absolutely must 100% be on top of your build planning or you can actually brick your character (playing pure str swordman is still fairly brainless and fine for beginners, though)
