>>582147641You mean having some buildings use the desalinator and some use the tower until the net water usage is zero? Because otherwise I can't see how you could use both with the same machine, either the steam goes in the cooling tower and voids water or it goes into the desalinator and spawns extra water. But besides that, once you accept the added "complexity" of a desalinator I don't get why you would bother with cooling towers at all.If you are making too much water with desalination you can always dump it back in the ocean and keep that capacity in reserve for the future. I don't see the point of adding a bunch of towers and the necessary balancing (which will make your life a nightmare when you want to use the water you are voiding for something else) for the sole purpose of voiding water when there's already a way more efficient zero-effort building that does that.

Do i burn coal or hydrogen for my steam? Or woodchips? Electric boilers cant refund the energy cost (9MW of power to produce 9MW of mechanical energy that turns into 7.5MW of power).I've got a shortage of wood lately and probably need to improve my forests, but at least these are renewable while hydrogen consumes oil, and woodchips are more efficient than charcoal

Okay so I'm having trouble thinking how to best make my train line, I prepared stations at the new iron, copper and coal mines but then with how much space it takes I'm not sure where I should unload all that. All at the same place I imagine? Should I carry other stuff than ore, I thought I could go with less trains since it's all loose wagon and one fluid to carry hydrogen to the remote places for the trucks and excavators
>>582289848For oil power, I believe naphtha is still kingbut the answer is simple, why stick a single source when you can and should use multiple? The key to this game is balance and adapting to your situation.

>>582310931I had the smeltry split between copper and iron, but I can shift things around. The mine in the middle was coal and is being filled, in the meantime I import coal by boat. I have been relunctant to unpause now because indeed, better very sooner than later. I guess I should rework everything but I might need to plan some reserves beforehand.

I’m making a /g/vcg/ and /vg/egg/ crossover: benchmarking agents on /egg/ game puzzles. I think making the whole thing play Factorio is too much. You can get good results just making agents connect two rails. The next benchmark I’m running is “Connect two rails with an obstacle between them (a furnace)”Its surprisingly informative, Astra is, for some reason, an /egg/ game god.
>>582344240If anyone has similar simple little test puzzle ideas, drop em on me. I’m also making it into a harness and toolset so agents can better help you play /egg/ games or take on challenges.>i hid the rail solver from the agents; some of them even immediately made their own

>Coredump failure on shutdownI likely should worry about this and back up my saves shouldn't I? But considering the price of HDD and SSD, I guess I'll just have to pray that my computer won't die before I finish Py.
>>582357357>Timberborn is in the top 10 for highest reviewed Steam games this yearis it really that good? i thought that /egg/men generally disliked it
>>582357976Timberborn has individual agent villagers, right? That would be a good chunk of why. With citybuilder mechanics agents get up to obnoxious fuckery, the optimization of which appeals to a different kind of autism. Think of all the bitching about CoI vehicles getting stuck. But I think more of something like Banished where there is timescale fuckery and minimal villager inventory which together lead to a worker having shit all uptime because they keep taking long walks back and forth.
>>582357976I dunno, we've got a couple semiregular posters (...me being one). The deciding factor is definitely the beavers themselves though, if you just want to make water control structures the citybuilding might get in the way or be too slow for your tastes. Personally I like the physical limitation of needing them to do your bidding as a forced brake on progression, so I don't just instantly slap down automated badtide dams and get bored.

>>582344240>>582344464>>582361432>>582361953Since this is /egg/ pic rel makes more sense than describing it. The puzzle in the first benchmark (that Grok and GLM failed) is “Connect these two rails”. No space limits, no specific ends, just in any way. That’s how basic these first puzzles are and they’re already heeming GLM.The next, the one in progress, is to connect two rails in a line, but an obstacle is in between, and that one killed Muse.
I'm trying to start warm air production in py. Is there any reason to not mix the 250 celsius cock oven gas input with the 100 celsius output for feeding the rest of the machines that use it as fuel?
>>582364989what machines are you seeing that use it as fuel? if you're just using it as a generic burner fuel then it shouldn't matter, but brick heaters need a minimum of 250 so if you feed the output back at all it won't work

Feels like it might be time to shut down this mine. It's getting to a point where it's really not worth the time to clear all this rock. This land is also prime for being reclaimed and used for new factories with dedicated rail connections. There's another coal deposit elsewhere that would be much easier to tap and already has planned access to the rail network. The only thing I need do is determine where a coal import station would go in this area. The last major user left is the steel mill, the copper and glass productions both use arc furnaces now. I'm here looking at how to utilize reprocessed nuclear fuel for the first time and I can't conceive of any way it's rational to use except to do a third, dedicated reactor that will use MOX rods.>try and use the fuel in the existing system>have to remove at least one reactor from using the regular uranium rods>will eventually run out of reprocessed fuel because the recycling process uses huge amounts of spent fuelEither my math is wrong or it seems like this is not safe to rely on unless you're operating a HUGE nuclear plant or have unlocked fission or something. I've never even come this far in this game. The only realistic benefit I can see for my own setup is to clear out the existing spent fuel and just keep a stockpile of MOX rods somewhere. This would also consume a certain amount of the depleted uranium and remove it from the process for a time.Man I want Transport Fever 3 to come out so I can play with trains and not have to worry about the operation of a nuclear power plant for a while.
ding dong the fagthread's dead
A very special train has entered the network. Not only is it doing a very specialized job, but the bit of the network it's using here is designed to use different pathing behavior, requiring the train to reverse in part of its route. It can reverse into this siding to park but also needs this siding to leave this area. Also I guess my people are now suffering from radiation... no idea how to prevent that when the spent fuel at the plant has to travel on a belt for at least a little bit of time.

What? Just use a priority merger. Make sure mox gets used before regular fuel so nothing jams. Both can go into the reactor with zero issues. You end up saving uranium by recycling. Later on you just use depleted uranium instead of yellowcake for your FBR blanket fuel until you run out. Save some plutonium for core fuel too.

But what are you even using it for?
>>582445521Cool reaktor!
>>582445714Also this is the only old picture I found of it, but I even remember using the single reprocessing plant for everything. It kinda worked but required some micro fuckery, because of a single pipe having to use two different outputs.
>>582445521>This one of those neat dlc only trains, seems a bit over built tho, cool that it uses fuel gas. But what are you even using it for? It's using fuel gas because I had old fuel gas locomotives laying around after everything was turned over to hydrogen. I have a surplus of fuel gas now so I figured I'd bring one back for fun, since it will be making very infrequent runs. It's bringing molten glass to the nuclear reprocessing plant.I'm aware this is wildly overbuilt. Honestly the more I learn about this, the more I just want to rebuild it all somewhere else. The spent fuel takes quite a journey to get to the preprocessor so it's killing people passively. I'm guessing the danger from it being on the belt has something to do with how long it has to spend outside of buildings.

>>582438986Yeah it kinda gets janky when there's large projects. Read the instruction manual, I think there are some settings to force certain behaviours on nodes and possibly solve the conflicts.Generally when things go red like that it's because the red bit is part of a closed loop and one of the buildings of that loop would back up because of a bottleneck, and that causes a cascade of miscalculations everywhere. My guess on the primary suspect is that loop between chemplants, boilers and hydrogen reformers feeding each other, particularly because it's a loop that cannot start on its own (water can't be boiled until chemplant burns hydrogen, but chemplant can't burn hydrogen until reformer gets steam and steam can't be made until water comes out of the chemplant and so on) and would need to be kickstarted manually. Maybe take that water node and cancel it, pretend the boiler is always running with an external source of water to see if that fixes the problem.

>>582436725The Babylon 5 memes are doing Iron man numbers.
So I came up with this design, it fits copper and iron next to eachother, feeds both lines from the same graphite and water and collects the exhaust, steam and slag to the same place too. Not really sure which storage I could afford to make smaller and I have a feeling that a small acid tank isnt a good idea. Ultimately tho the scalability stops at the belts limit, but that's a problem for far away, might not even be a problem at all. These old diesel pipes are taking on a kinda cookies n cream color as they get flooded with hydrogen. The time has come to update the fuel distribution system and remove the diesel.
The fuel depot at the vehicle factory has been scrubbed of diesel and various pipe reconfigurations have been made to convert the entire area to hydrogen. This shit costs a lot of unity to do.

>>582507043Next is my Recycling/Science/Maintenance complexYou might think from previous picture>holy shit how can anon survive from a couple blast furnaces for everything at this pointWell here is the answer, and because recycling pretty much carries from midgame onwards, and its a natural fit with blast furnacesAll the pollution and water is also hooked with the scrubbers from previous picture, so they can work a peak efficiency if needed.I just put the science complex back to work after eons in hiatus. a good time to put everything on a stress test before I finally start working on my Nukelar plant complex.
>>582484423You get like 1.5x the amount of hydrogen from the same crude as you get diesel
>>582507575Finally we carry over to the refinery complex, which is rather standard pipegasm most players are used to.Its been almost the same since the beginning, with exception of upgrading the power plant, and the plastic/graphite and other auxiliary stuffNaphtha power pretty much carried me this whole game, and I'm nearing depletion of my couple initial oil rigs, however, because of the green energy plant, it really takes a load off and extended the its lifetime by quite a lot.Excess fuel gas is also used on the burners and converted to hydrogen, and excess water drawn from the sea goes on a megaloop to feed the town's water reserves. The main problem, as I switch to nukelar, is going to be converting the excess naphtha back into diesel, otherwise production is going to get backlogged big time.>>582508006>You get like 1.5x the amount of hydrogen from the same crude as you get dieselI know you get more, but I really am questioning how much is it and whether its worth with all the extra building, power and manpower required.
>>582508324If you are refining oil just to make electricity (you shouldn't) then it's most likely not convenient to make hydrogen. But the point is that you get more fuel, so you use less crude, and the vehicles using that fuel make no pollution.

>>582520025>How many flywheels are neededI am the wrong person to ask. My wood fired plant uses an identical configuration to the power shafts on this complex and they absolutely cannot cope with autobalance. The nuclear complex is set to run nonstop, so the flywheels are just here for vibes. They are functionally useless in this configuration. As for the water supply, I'm feeling more and more that this is going to need a supplement. I'm keeping an eye on the groundwater wells nearby and noticing all four are at 100% productivity, which is a sign that the ground water will tap out eventually.I did manage to configure my balancers in this area to keep the reservoir tanks full though. Sometimes I really hate the trucks AI. This refueling truck just refueled this excavator but I guess because it didnt have enough for the second one, it decided to just go back and refill. Similarly sometimes there's like a lot of goods to transport a relatively short distance but instead of having one truck do back and forth, you get 4 trucks rushing to it and then waiting at the target destination instead of going back to continue, since the other trucks are coming (from across the map). I know that problem can be solved by assigning a truck to the depot but man it's always so annoying to see happen

Just did the FTD campaign, its nowhere near as hard as its reputation proceeds, you typically can get north of a 1m mats from the start which is enough to trade blows with 99% of ships you'll see, localised logi can be ignored by supply chains and you can stun lock all enemies just by dropping a blueprint on them. But fuck is it tedious, input delays that can be measured by the minutes, you'll be babying all your ships away from land all the time, the old time savers of global resources and disabled heartstones are gone, and pop ups have no quick accept/close so shit like deleting 10+ ships is a real hassle. Also repairing outside friendly territory is disabled to stop repair bot spam, but now my runs have regular return trips.

Can (you) spot the accidental (I swear) nazi dogwhistle?
Ok checkmate haters. As I suspected, indeed if you focus all your oil to hydrogen you get a bit more of it (about 18%). HOWEVERYou have more fuel consumption on all vehicles across the board (and about 27% on a regular truck), making it a loss overall.Plus you got a much higher operational cost across the board, not to mention a huge footprint from all the hydrogen reformers that it takes, I suspect it miscalculate the construction materials as well. And sure, hydrogen uses less pollution but look at that CO2 output, if you don't take that into account even pollution is higher.

>>582608239The's only partially true anon, because you diverted some of the oil products to go back into steam, lowering your final yield in both cases. If you don't force yourself to do that and leave open the possibility of getting steam with a different fuel such as wood, you'll see the gains are quite a bit different (169diesel vs 254hydrogen, or about a 50% gain) and they more than make up the extra fuel consumption in the case of hydrogen. If you insist on not using external fuels though, you can convert to hydrogen only halfway and keep the 72 diesel output from DistillationII untouched, then you can make all the steam you need with two electric boilers while dumping the diesel into 4 big generators and completely offset the power consumption of the whole setup. So in the end you are self sufficient both in steam and electricity, meanwhile, you get 152 hydrogen out the other end, or about double what you get with DistillationII alone which is more or less the stage at which you need to decide how to expand your refinery. The CO2 is really a non-issue. Exhaust from diesel vehicles cannot be filtered and will be a permanent health penalty, while CO2 can be converted to graphite or simply voided resulting in zero overall pollution from start to finish. Even better, hydrogen can be used in place of fuel gas in almost every industrial process, eliminating pollution from those too. When it comes to pollution, hydrogen overwhelmingly wins against diesel and it's a much more versatile fuel. The real drawback of a full hydrogen conversion comes from workers, it uses a lot of them, but because it allows you to save a lot on crude oil, you end up using smaller boats and slower oil rigs, partially offsetting that worker penalty.
>>582624656Speaking of fuel gas, the statue needs it right? It can't burn hydrogen I think, but that's like the only use of fuel gas

>>582635860>it's only 6 tho?how could you possibly need 6 wagons of every ore at that stage of the game? Also for what it's worth you don't need to connect each station module, the whole station can output from a single port if you don't need the full throughput..and it seems you don't
>>582636090i have no idea how much 6 is worth in CoI. I've been told to make long trains for efficiency, so I did a medium train because I couldn't afford a long train.>you don't need to connect each station modulethat's neat, i should look more into how they work
>>582636625It's more of a minmaxing thing than a real issue, but stations can become a major drain on workers (each cargo module needs 1 and that whole cluster in your screenshot needs 24, plus the stations at the other end makes it 48) that are essentially wasted if a train spends the majority of its time sitting idle waiting to unload. If you start small and monitor the situation for a bit, you can work your way up to the amount of wagons you actually need given the station buffers and the round-trip time, ultimately settling to the correct train size with minimal waste of workers. Adding wagons is easy.Long trains are efficient when you are actually able to consume the cargo, otherwise they just sit there and waste workers
>>582638346so i just need to scale the stations, while keeping long trains then? The trains will idle at loading/unloading but the workers will be less
>>582606982Arc furnace 1 is really bad, only useful for silicon and maybe for melting scrap right at the recycler while your blast furnaces can work full tilt on ore somewhere else.Arc furnace 2 is great though once power is solved.

>>582635028why haven't you made it there
>>582651565cause he a bitch
>>582638639well wagons are essentially free so yeah you can do that as long as you keep some space for the train to crawl ahead while it unloads the next batch of wagons. Or you can use shorter trains and add wagons if/when needed.Fewer wagons means a faster train (both in travel and during loading/unloading) but more trips, More wagons means a slower train but fewer trips.Judging by the scale of your refinery hub I don't think you will be consuming ore at a rate where the amount of train trips really matters for the overall balance of fuel in your island so really go with whatever you prefer.

I really should make a nuclear plant at this point or expand my forests even more as a stop gap. Is there anything to worry about for nuclear? So long as I provide fuel and cooling I should be fine right? Also 1 spent fuel per 2 months feel like a lot but one storage holds enough for 4800 months and later I can recycle them, so I should be fine right?
>>582697858Definitely reprocess everything, don't store it raw. >>582754220what if, to make advanced machines you'd need PCBs and you'd need to design said PCBs to do your bidding.
>>582812726Who knows? It's not like we've played it yet, or even got any real information about what it's like.
>>582817356stop this at once
>>582817356RCSs and hour long docking maneuvering is what Factorio really lacks.
>>582817576>>582817756>>582817356
they can shoot each other; for each target-able entity on one surface I create an invisible proxy entity in the other surface that turrets can shoot, with the damage transferred between surfaces. docking / boarding is planned, but the problem I'm actually having right now is simply controls. I can't figure out how to create normal WASD keybindings for it, custom-input bindings only fire once per key press, and don't give any key up event either, so right now I tap shift-wasd to increment or decrement the helm and rudder, which is to be frank absolute shit to fly. I don't get why wube made this hard.
>>582810590Actually, it uses biter logic.
>>582818034madness
>Caravans reveal the map like they're radars>Can send them for scouting around looking for shit like geothermal fissuresNo idea if that's remotely worth it but it's also very funny
>>582817356>>582818034This should have been in SA from the start. When Parked in orbit they should all be in a nice line that you can pan the camera through.
>>582812726Fuck. I bet it's full of jumping puzzles because the original map designers got mad all of theirs were trivialized. Watch it release and the jetpack won't work underground for some reason.
I actually need tailings dust from pentoxide, which only comes from tailings, and there's no real set and forget systems for creating it, and if I don't my pentoxide will stallturns out that making hydrogen chloride from diborane and salt will both save me on guts and also give me a standalone inexhaustible source of tailings, so that's neattar quenching also works but I'd have to crack open two seeps for it and I don't feel like it>>582821791it is actually since you can do that remotely and let it cover a huge circular area by just telling him to go in specific placesit also doesn't collide with trees
>>582822667>Spam foundations and ramps>Build powerlines everywhere and trivialize everything with ziplinesIf you ever had any trouble with jumping puzzles you're retarded.
>>582817356>>582818034>you will live to play escape velocity in factorio
>>582821354bitter logic for a bitter mod
>>582822667I doubt they'd nerf any of the player movement equipment, but I'm kinda excited because underground dlc = more lighting optionsso tired of lighting all my factories with the same industrial linear high bay
Have you nerds tried Transport Fever 3?
>>582833320yes and I'm enjoying not having to babysit a fucking nuclear reactor
>>582803718Personally I think best course of action is to leave SF as it is, letting modders do with game whatever they want without "added 3 new cosmetic items, all mods broken" bullshit, and devs concentrate their efforts on sequel, in which they adress all the design issues (miserable building experience, important-yet-repetetive-and-boring exploration, alt recipe and cosmetic part unlocking, fuel-powered vehicles being trains with extra steps). Then again, most of design issues are clearly results of them being far too confident in their Vision, and their readiness to dismiss any and all criticism, so hypothetical SF2 will probably have you start with 2 foundation wide blueprinter, and you'd need to spend some currency to validate every blueprint + wait upwards to 10 minutes for it to finish validating.
>>582840326>Personally I think best course of action is to leave SF as it is, letting modders do with game whatever they wantThere's no way they do this, I'm entirely certain the audience playing vanilla Satisfactory is way fucking larger than whoever is playing modded, so they surely have shitloads of people waiting for updates and additions.>added 3 new cosmetic itemsIt's an expansion.>Then again, most of design issues are clearly results of them being far too confident in their VisionYeah for sure, the game is the way it is because that's what they wanted to make. That being said, just looking at Steam review numbers it would seem that they've got a larger audience than even Factorio which is rather shocking. In any case their "vision" seems to be working out for them so it's not surprising that they've been sticking with it.
>>582803056>and just copy this interrupt and rename it to what I'm using for liquidsi don't get thisdon't you have to change destination too since it's set as part of the interruptand why are you mixing interrupt deliveries with scheduled ones
>>582821791>Caravans reveal the map like they're radarswait, do they? i swear i see them outside of radar reveal regularly
>>582823635oreproc generally pumps out a ton of tailingsi tried using salt for chlorine lines but wound up deciding that salt was in too limited supply when i already needed it for a bunch of other shit without alternatives
I'm a stupid moron with an ugly face and a big butt and my butt smells and... I like to kiss my own butt. That being said, is there any way to show what comes out of a building in COI when the hookups have already been made? I'm refactoring for Naptha and keeping track of what comes out where is a huge pain in the ass when the pipe hookups block out the indicators
>>582846527IIRC you select the building and it shows the ports, but I could be wrong.Been a hot second since I last played, please understand.Alternatively, you could place a copy of your setup nearby.Remove the pipes and you'll see what's made where.
>>582848274I was hoping for something less bootleg and I was just missing something. Seems weird to not have some alt-mode equivalent
Why did nobody told me railgun turrents damange your own buildings?I trashed all my legendary asteroid collectors twice and remade my ship 2x as big because the game would stutter every time they fire preventing me from seeing what is actually damaging me. I had to record it in OBS and analyze frame by frame.
Bro plz
>>582851969
>>582836646how do cargo and passengers work in that game? Do they choose autonomously where to go given the possible alternatives you provide (like OTTD) or do they simply go to whatever A to B you build and everything more complicated than that requires shenanigans with orders and transfers?
>>582852256Space engineers.
>>582836646Its good to take a break anon, where will you be posting it?I feel >>>/vg/civ is more appropriateOn that note, that's quite a long train
>>582853810like OTTD, they need destination and inter-connectivity, the better you can provide the more passengers you get, plus there seems to be also some contracts to deliver worker to factories
>>582850410I'm with you on this anon.Besides the alt-mode, I want to be able to recolor pipes, or at least select and/or "lock" their color.Conveyors don't tangle as much, so as to be a problem like that, but it'd still be neat to be able to tell stuff at-a-glance.There's still a lot of potential for quality-of-life stuff in CoI.
