I think the real issue isn't the factoid itself. You just shouldn't do "explain writing" unless you absolutely have to. Silver and Blackwood having similar gloves is compelling on its own without Silver having to bring up the reason he has it. That's only good for filling in wikis.

When Iizuka said "there are two worlds, he literally meant two entire planets. He meant that Sonic is an alien from another planet. He did not mean that there are two locations and Sonic is somewhere else. He was not using some kind of metaphor for the different tones of the games. He meant Sonic is an alien. Sega told Paramount that Sonic has to be an A L I E N from outer space and that they couldn't just make him a weird cartoon earth creature. That was more important to Sega than getting his design right.
