The pantheon of gods was better in pillars 1 than 2. Most specifically Woedica, Skaen, and Magran. They had some nuance and mystery and an interesting sense of embodying a general concept in a somewhat interesting way, but they became much flatter caricatures in 2.

In any case, Safia is hard at work studying up on our case. As a Tremere, we have the option to offer to help her - after all, we've been studying Thaumaturgy for a lot of years by now, longer than Safia has known it exists - but she probably has it handled. Besides, we have other matters to attend to now that Safia and the clan's interests have been looked after. Tolly, the gay nosferatu, has sent us into a shit storm twice now, and I wouldn't have even checked in on Willem if not for him. When Willem and the warehouse blew up, Tolly just happened to be there in time to scoop me up ahead of the first responders. It's all a little suspicious. Out-of-character, I know I've lost one option for dealing with him by addressing Safia first, but in-character that felt like the thing we would do. Every CRPG like this must have choices and consequences, big or small, and the consequences can't always be a +1 to the bigaton damage numbers. Some days you get the bear, some days the bear gets you.
Fabien lets us know that Tolly can be found at the Dutchman most nights. It makes sense, he's deformed but not obviously supernatural, and probably just looks like someone who made a mistake cooking meth. The place is also the favored hangout of a local biker gang, and Tolly probably appreciates the coming and going of hairy men in leather. In-character I have to steel myself a bit before going in - it's loud, it stinks, and even if I don't end up in a fight with the guy Tolly is pretty annoying. As lifetime unemployeds this particular dynamic is probably out of your grasp, but there's always that one coworker who merits a small prayer every time you see they've messaged you.

Out of character, I'm not actually sure if it makes a difference here - the conversations are deceptively complex in other scenes, with subtle or not subtle changes based on the order you ask things, whether you ask at all, etc. But in-character, I'm more than a little suspicious of Tolly at this point, and probably smart enough to probe him for what he'll admit to knowing rather than just blurting it all out. Besides, he's the spy, he should be informing me.

Sauntering into Benny's old office isn't so hard. There's some new fangled recording machine in there, with a garbled voice - the same that set the ghoul onto Verona weeks earlier - apparently warning Benny about his one man genocide. That's a bit conspicuous to leave laying around, and even Fabien wanders how it got there, but I guess sometimes you just have to do video game stuff. A little lazy, but eh, I never said the game was perfect, just overhated. Regardless, we manage to find Benny's notes in a not very hidden place, no trouble at all.
