It SEEMS that nonverbal casting is somewhat similar to wandless magic in that it's apparently difficult and requires talent and experience. We don't see a lot of nonverbal magic, and most we see SEEMS to be cantrips. The only example i can really recall is Snape wordlessly shuttering windows before class, but I'm sure it happens a bunch of times in the movies.
