All planes are ass at low levels. Generally in multiplayer, all planes will have the same handling as long as they're the same role. Miggers get easy points because they have LAAMs, which are overtuned.

They stack

>>585622668
yeah... you really want a smaller and faster craft for these missions. Try the Bulldog(at least I think that's the name).
It has a great gun, top tier maneouvrability, and can still take good weapons like bombs and rockets to clear out ground targets.

Man just got done with Mission 27 on my replay
The twin tragedies was the biggest mistake of the game, you either have one or the other not both and definitely not so close together. We should have gotten a two routes where Baxter or Kate dies. Have Tasha harden up and face Tewy in the Baxter route while in the Kate route Coster steps up to look after Tasha and Toprak goes berserk in the Nightmare for Mission 29.
>>
>>585623321
>Generally in multiplayer, all planes will have the same handling as long as they're the same role

Is that why in my last game my level 12 or so Foxhound was able to at the very least keep up with a Barricader enough to not let the other guy get a good shot at me
>>
>>585624003
Imo, it feels like all the LL are larpers, except for maybe 22 a bit and Moon (but she's too out of it too perform up to snuff).
It's like every time they show up they ride their initial strike fanfare despite being more or less above average or good at most, then someone with skills and PC status shows up and they fall apart.

Flight performance increases with level. The Morgan is extremely good at level 20 with ECM and TLS in the hands of someone good with TLS. It costs a shit ton of resources to get it there though. Lower tier aircraft are going to outpace morgans in growth rate since they are cheaper to level up.

The demo was ultra-mid.

I kinda wish there were more arcadey combat flight games that *didn't* try to copy Ace Combat? You really don't need to have a single button to cycle through dozens of targets, or have the camera return to center, or have an on-rails flight model, or pursuit guidance missiles, or a near-future/current day timeframe, or harmless anti-air, etc. Do something new, or at least copy something we haven't seen in awhile, like Crimson Skies.
>>
>>585629421
Ishaq had balls, Tiwari wouldn't let his crew evacuate and ended up roasting them alive despite the ship having an autopilot setting that he could've activated at any point.

>Can you test the SFFS bomblets max distribution? It can get pretty wide if you aim from high up, at least in my experience.
Distribution will go up at least slightly for seemingly forever, but past 2500m it doesn't change appreciably much with altitude. Above 2800-2900m you have effectively zero blast overlap. Terrain height will also affect spread distance, but that shouldn't be a problem on most maps. While the spread's nice you're not doing sny damage to things outside the smaller circles so keep that in mind.

More autism because I was curious about how high you could climb and still have effective bomblet stacking. Done over water for "control" since terrain height affects spread. Both this and the other image were with Improved Submunition Liner 2 and Extended Submunition Casing 2, I figure anyone going for an SFFS plane will also buy those. Don't have the SFFS ability for my Frogfoot yet, which would give +2 bomblets.

Also found out what heights bomblets break off at. Below ~40m you've only got the parent bomb, ~337m is the minimum height you need to fly and get them all to spawn for maximum damage. I don't know how +2 more bomblets will affect things, if you'll need to climb higher to get those to spawn.

People are flying shitty low level Morgan's right now to complete a weekly task. The stock Morgan with the burst missile is basically just a shitty attacker and is probably piloted by a noob. You should only feel a bit of concern if it's running TLS, and panic a little bit if you see it deploy ecm too.

As for assault mode getting wiped fast, that's unfortunately standard. Everything centers around spamming snore fest missions until you are allowed to fight a super weapon

Ace combat where you get no super planes and you're a rag tag mercenary group and you gotta manage your planes like beater cars in a Gran Turismo game, you only can afford better ones by doing dangerous missions. And they should use this as an exuse to bring back that mechanic where if your plane blows up, you lose it until you buy it again.

Playing with friends is fun. But also the same devs have been working on an endless-wave survival mode gamemode so it's meant more for that, it can just be adapted to campaign

My own flying vidya idea goes for something like this. The USA east coast and a third of Europe went up in nuclear flames after the Cuban missile crisis went hot, with the NATO and USSR falling by the end of the year. De Gaulle planned for this, and had all secretly formed a "let's not shoot" pact with other NATO and Warsaw Pact countries, where they would just shoot all their US and Russian missile operators in the head, so they could avoid collapse and end up on top at the end of the nuclear exchange. In the aftermath, France is the #1 power, basically has a monopoly on nuclear power and weapons, and only permits uranium extraction or enrichment or power plant operation to its allies. Le French themselves get the HUGE fission powered aerial cruisers for policing the world, while the Foreign Air Legions which operate outside the imperial core as a vanguard get the "smaller" (merely CL1201 sized) aerial cruisers. You would basically get to be the squadron leader for one of these, and while fighting the Sino-Burger alliance / other minor powers, would take or buy whatever salvage you can find to keep your ship stocked up and everything in working condition.

Feels definitely something that wouldn't be out of place and at the very least would hope that the NASA prototypes would be an "endgame" upgraded version of an existing aircraft. I also feel in Strangereal you should see stuff that in real life made the final set of trials but didn't get accepted into service in our world like the YF-17 as there would be enough demand all round for any viable plane people have for sale. Would also help flesh out some low-mid tier planes.

5's cast didn't stick with me desu, 8 did a better job but Coster kinda takes a back seat less than half way through the game, and having two deaths with one of them being a fake out was a bit oddly timed, especially with how odd Kate's return felt logically outside of a pure "hype" moment. Bartlett's return was something I knew was gonna happen and he doesn't spend enough time with the squad to have an interesting impact. Nagase is sexy and feisty tho.

Ace Combat works better imo when you're only really focused on a few select cast members imo. I like wingmen banter, but one or two story characters is enough for me. the only real outlier for me in all this was AC3, but that game has a lot going on with the routes where you're usually focusing on a couple characters per route while others take a back seat until you reach their routes.

The idea that society would accept that war and violence is required as background noise for humanity to function, and went out of the war to create gamified wars as a sink for violent human behavior, is very interesting. I wonder, could a large empire sustain itself longer if it allowed / provoked / encouraged minor civil wars as a feature to vent off a larger outburst of violence later on?

>>
>>585652697
It's a bad thesis, though.
The whole "outlet for human aggression and competition" thing is actually filled by mundane things like 'sports' and 'games'. Wars are the violent outcome of diplomatic escalations in order to produce a desired end. They don't just happen because anyone wants them to happen, in fact the entire point of diplomacy is to prevent it and entire volumes are written on the rules of war that deal with why escalating a war beyond what you can deescalate from is a bad idea.
But as usual, Japs are retarded.

Not really because that shit escalates. Some light novel, mostly speculation, but the only conclusion you can really come to, given his reaction at the end of the game to everyone being dead then revived, and Kusanagi's "plan" at the end of the movie. If you take it as her not being the original and coming up with the Cheetah -> Teacher plan it shifts the perspective. You could also infer that Teacher is trying to teach either those responsible or the viewers that Kildren are a solved game, they don't learn or change or grow, and as such die the same way to the same tactic every single time, in a bid to shut the program down.

I'm grinding out planes I want so I can do an elite/ACES play though of the campaign. I also still have Zero to play. So in case I get brun out it'll be alot easier to jump back into the campaign months from now with the planes I want instead of grinding them out later.

https://progchad.itch.io/airspace-raider

I just updated my free 2D jet combat game called Airspace Raider if anyone's interested

2000ish total plays so far

I grew up playing AC4/5/Zero so the game borrows stuff from Ace Combat (including wingman commands) with a Tarkov-style persistent inventory and selectable raids you try to win to keep your loadout and get rewards and level up.

Simple kb+m WASD controls, you can use a joy-to-key mapper to add HOTAS support within a couple of minutes
>>
>>585657078
The standard air to air belt for the 20mm didn't include any of the ammo designed to deal with ground targets, therefore we can conclude that the previous statement holds true.

Doing my first run of the game with F-18C let me find something odd about how the game tracks planes and kills.
I hadn't bought a Rafale but when Kate shows up in one the game still added it to this page. Would make more sense if we had a wingmen kill section instead of just yours
>>
>>585658904
Yeah, if I had one request for AC9, it'd be to keep innovating on wingmen mechanics and track their achievements. Then situations like "pacifist Tasha has to make her first kill" could happen organically rather than in a scripted sequence.

Hello anon from the future, what's Ace Combat 9's gimmick? Do we get to play as mercenaries again? Is the XFA-27 in it?
>>
>>585657531
Just SASM. 4AAMs are pretty mediocre missiles, even for farming AI, and you don't get much ammo with 2 SPWs. While HCAA is alright, I think I've had more success in general use with standards stacked with homing parts and the MSL ability. SASMs are more of a jousting or in your face missiles so homing isn't nearly as important for them as damage radius parts.
>>
>>585659634
The gimmick? Nothing fancy just lots of explosions and missiles, missiles everywhere missiles that fire missiles that fire more missiles that fire yet more missiles.

Not only is the XFA-27 in it she is also the games cover plane
>>
AC9's gimmick should be fully destructable buildings.
I played Expo City earlier today, and I was thinking how you could contribute to the city's destruction more with bombs and such. Maybe even have levels where you are penalized for such collateral damage (or rewarded).

This girl's pretty cool. Also I love how PA used game mechanics to emphasize that Gemma were a bunch of shitters.

>all have really basic flight patterns
>worth less points than any other plane besides cold war birds
>gemma nuggets are used as the cannon fodder "filler" planes in the third phase of rocky island 2; previous phases used mig-29As as the filler planes
>all gemmas fail to survive/bail out, auto-eject system fails them
>playable games are so good they're post-game unlocks

You get a new game + tier superplane during the campaign but if you use it in a specific (very difficult) mission, it eats your brain and you get the bad ending where you're forced to shoot down your allies. honestly they still look good all things considered, but standards and expectations have just gotten way higher and AC8 just looks insanely good. but when you put these old ass games at higher resolutions and add a bunch of modern niceties to remove the blurring and stuff, it's gonna open up the curtains to a lot of stuff that was hidden in plain sight.

I'm assuming there are fan remastered textures for some of the games? I don't really care because I like the look of old games, although the cockpit camera can be pretty tight for my liking so a wider fov is nicer for some older games, particularly console fps titles.

See I think that's become the thing that decides whether I like a multiplayer game nowadays, short and fun appeals to me more than long sessions. It's not that bad. It flies worse than Fullback but not by a lot (and if you can stay low enough for the low altitude ability to work then the difference is even smaller) and it gets LASMs which are good on maps with ships. You can definitely make it work if you want.
Does suck that it's right at the bottom of mid tier so it has the worst stats possible while still costing 30 gold blueprints instead of 10 though. Also it'd be way better if it got generic surface damage ability instead of the specific missile damage vs ships one.

No, because they're locked in a caste system. Royalty, then nobility, then multiple castes of citizenry. They don't get military training or anything, you start a protest or a mob and you get snuffed out. It's extremely hard to overturn that kind of system from within.
>>

not that anon, but its fairly obvious that the broad strokes of AC3world are locked in (corporations gaining power on par with nationstates, the neo-united nations playing mediator between said corporate powers, the DOE project, ENSI tech, dataswallow, usea needing to be rebuilt from a clean slate)
the only contentious aspect is the finer details such as various characters, dataswallow being a regular OS instead of some full braindive VR thing

It's a good representation of how kingdoms and dictatorships act. Nobility in name only, cruel and capricious in action. They show that in the prologue by having 22 shoot down one of his own team, and again when he pops parachutes. That's also why they juxtapose them with Ventus, as they may not be nobility but their actions are. Telling the nuggets to retreat, then putting themselves between them and certain death.

All this talk about your splashing choices changing how missions turns out makes me think they're internally workshopping an AC0 "style"-based route approach for AC9. If AC7 is a modernized AC4, and AC8 is 5's successor, then AC9 might also be the "new AC0", but before that it also has to be the "new AC3". And what do 0 and 3 have in common? Routes ofc. Guaranteed this is them testing the waters for a route system based on kills.

Aces at War fag here. Managed to get my hands on a proper business-grade scanner so I'll be able to redo my camscans over the next couple weeks. 600 DPI spits out 5k x 6k jpgs at ~10-20 MB per image, but takes like 5 minutes per page. If there's any particular sections anons want in higher quality I can prioritize those.

For the nerds it's an Epson V600 flatbed, a CCD scanner since I've collected a number of artbooks over the years and ye olde scanlation guides recommend CCD scanners for better colors than the cheaper/more common things you'd find in printers. Sucks that all the supply chain shenanigans in the past couple years have made them all expensive, the current model goes for $2000 new these days when apparently V600s and V700s used to go for $200-$300. Alternative manufacturer's CCDs also go for $400 and up.

Yeah, it is a big boss fight where you are supposed to wail on it, but there's nothing clever about it. Like with the Podarges you can discover you can attack the cargo directly and destroy it that way. With the Calaeno, there doesn't seem to be anything. I tried taking out its radar to see if that changed anything, and no. It doesn't.

Yeah the setting/writing is cool but the game isn't fun to play. I like the idea of different routes allowing you to play missions from the other side (attack the base/defend the base) but it's still not fun to play.

Depends entirely on where you are. Likely mild disappointment unless there's a specific plane or crew you're looking for. They aren't allowed to fly over the crowd anymore, much less buzz it, so they kinda suck now. Still good to see some stunts in biplanes and WW2 reenactments with gooney birds. Also extremely mid food that costs more than a gourmet meal. Mountains of tchotchkes, some expensive stuff like buildable model planes and wooden statues, a bazillion trucker hats, uhhh... what else... oh, if it's at a place with a museum or resto shop you'll be hounded by volunteers to donate, you should only do so if the people working there are also volunteers. If you're gonna be parking in a big open field and watching from next to your car, get there like 20mins early for a good spot, the downside is you'll have to wander around for a half hour afterwards while you wait for everyone else to leave. Good time to peruse the merchandise. If you're parking elsewhere and walking to stands then it doesn't matter as much as the spacing is way smaller.

Higher cost means you give the enemy more points when they kill you, and your respawn timer is longer. These downsides are obviously negated by just not dying.
There's also the TDM rotation which has a cost ceiling. You can check one of the news posts in game for the exact schedule
An upgraded F-4 is really solid, and it's not even expensive to upgrade.
As a rule, always max out your planefu first though

>the Razgriz Files in 2020
I bet that Osea went back on releasing those.
Delayed at first because of the blackout happening a month earlier, and then that delay just became indefinite because of "security reasons" or something.

At the time when they were supposed to release those files, they had just lost a ton of forces in the Lighthouse War, and now their global surveillance and communications infrastructure that allowed them to be a superpower and project power around the world is gone because of the blackout.
I could see them releasing the files if they felt secure in their position in the world, like they did right after AC5 -- but not in 2020, when their position is more insecure than it's been in probably most of a century. That's not the kind of time when they'd want to release a bunch of files to the world about how vulnerable and infiltrated and out-of-control their own government and military very recently were (and maybe still are to some extent).

Spies finally smuggling out some damning information from those files years later could be a neat way to kick off another conflict for a future Ace Combat game.

The story is about being a cowboy and there's even side missions where you literally herd cattle, you can do most of it as soon as the prologue is done. Once you get to Mexico which is about 1/3 of the story you also have access to the entire map and all the random bullshit open world busywork. Did we play the same fucking game? It's not like GTA 5 where you have to play nearly the entire story just to have enough stuff unlocked to have fun.

The issue isn't "the game 'never' lets you be a cowboy", it's the fundamental gameplay loop that Rockstar has is listening to NPCs yap until finally at long last the game lets you do what you bought the game to do.
Compare that with Ace Combat, where you will be downing bombers within fifteen minutes regardless of how much yapping there is.
>>
>>585676291
I imagine Harling's death also made it less likely for the files to be publically available since he was so well loved. But it may have had the opposite effect too.

>>
>>585676482
I don't mind the approach in RDR specifically because they are somewhat efficient with it and I'm playing the game for the fact it's a Western story. The open world never appealed to me, which is probably why I still like RDR1 and I've never liked GTA after I turned 18. Even in the GTAs with 'good' stories, you can really tell the open world is the main draw. RDR feels like the opposite approach, although 2 definitely encourages open world fuckery more. Really I just fucking hate open worlds with very few exceptions.
>Compare that with Ace Combat, where you will be downing bombers within fifteen minutes regardless of how much yapping there is.
Yeah even in 8, you get right down to business in pretty short time and you can skip all the story fluff if you just wanna shove AIM-9s up some poor bomber's ass. I've come to appreciate games with a good, consistent, linear progression of some kind over the years.

>Let's be perfectly honest though 5 as a story is too 'Billions must hope' themed for the Rusegriz Files to go unpublished.
sure they could go unpublished
it's related to AC5, yes, but it's a different scenario

"saving the day" in a given circumstance isn't the same as "saving the world forever"
it's fine for characters to resolve one crisis (which would have been a legitimate doomsday scenario if they hadn't saved everyone, and we can still recognize and appreciate that) and to then have other things still happen later on in history

otherwise, we'd be left with a setting where nothing bad could ever happen again in any given part of the world wherein previous protagonists had won or resolved some previous crisis there
in a world like that, the possibilities for telling stories about combat aircraft would dry up pretty quickly
I don't want to end up playing "Ace Combat 13: Nothing But Training and Airshows"
>>

>>
>>585677082
but without things constantly falling apart, where would we ever have any fun?
>>
>>585677082
The funny thing about Electrosphere is that as far as cyberpunk settings go it almost seems nice, for lack of a better term. This could just be a consequence of the lore changing as time goes on and only focusing on Usea, but the world is at relative peace at the start of Professor Cuckold's simulation. For all we know the other continents still have traditional governments and it's literally just Usea becoming a corporate wet dream because it's been fucked by war so much.

The real horror is that all of this may have started because of cryptobros.

That's a recurring theme it seems.
Trigger saved the Lighthouse for a while, but it was still damaged in 8.
Ray saved the FCU from destruction and stopped Enso Order, but corpos still took over anyway.
But I think rather than being cynical, it's a recognition that even if things inevitably go to shit, life goes on and nothing is ever shit forever. As the lyrics go "And even if we lose this fight, We will emerge into the light again." Hope and heroism is stronger than cynicism and greed.

>"So we will rise above: In a world where evil is replaced by love..."

when I was a really little kid, my mom had a bunch of Wee Sing cassette tapes that she would play whenever we went in the car somewhere, with nursery rhymes, and bible songs, and children's songs about hokey "let's all get along"-type shit, and songs from Disney and Barney (and weirdly also the McDonalds characters)

this song reminded me of those cassettes
trite and hokey and detached from reality
unmoored optimism to the point of retardation
naive to the point of being infantile
I just don't understand how people liked it

There's a big difference, I said slopnime not anime.
It's not bad due to it being anime, it's bad due to it being the biggest slop anime there can ever be.
If you can tell the difference, well, you're stupid.

No it's fucking not. Where did this belief even come from?
I swear to god I don't remember ever hearing this from anyone before AC8, but in the weeks since launch, a bunch of people are now trying to say that it's always been that way.
Why? Just because you fight against bad guys and win in the end, like basically every other video game with a story in history?
>>
I am being serious, it's such a shame that 3 is tied to the rest of the slop. 7 was the worst, but all are pretty bad. 8 is embarrassing.

I like her the most at some points, but I see the annoyance at others

There are three core aspects to Macross. One is fantastic, one bounces between good and 'eh', and the third needs to be put down like an old dog.
The first and most distinctive aspect is the Valkries themselves, starfighters with mid-flight transformation capabilities that allow them to engage in flexible combat situations. Art-wise, they are designed to make it technically feasible for all their elements to come together into both an aircraft and a humanoid shape without shortcuts.
The second element is the music. This always has a major presence, and its influence on the story differs between stories. Sometimes it's simply a morale booster, sometimes it can cause a sort of mental flashbang effect against a foe that has no concept of culture, sometimes it has hypnotic underlinings planted by a rogue Vocaloid AI, and then sometimes it's literally fucking magic (and that sucks ass).
The third aspect, and objectively the worst of them, is the love triangle, which is pretty much always forced as fuck and usually results in the worst possible outcome.
To get the best possible balance between these three aspects while also having sweet as hell animation, I suggest Macross Plus.

>>
>>585684387
It's still bad even with that.
She gets instant killed by one of the noob shitter pilots so that's a terrible way to (not) kill off a character.
Nobody from the FCU finds her even though she's in their controlled territory, instead the mercenaries who left a week ago find her so that makes no sense.
Her showing up with reinforcements is a cool moment, except why did nobody tell you she was alive? D.D calls you at the start of that mission, and instead of saying she's not dead and help is on the way he just shares some audio of Tewy and Enso talking. That's not important right now!

It's completely fucked. Worst writing in the game by far. Everything else works fine but then there's this one bizarre part where it turns nonsensical.
