AC8 felt like there was meant to be more cutscenes and crew interactions. What would have anons liked to have seen? Aside from a post-game Kate tunnel run

I felt there were a few missed opportunities to chill out with your squadron like listening to Purple Magic with Coster, playing some basketball with Tasha, and having a quiet drink with Baxter while discussing the Sotoan Solution.

>Nobody from the FCU finds her even though she's in their controlled territory
They should've drawn out how long it took for her to descend and finally crash -- at least for a minute or so, with her trying to stabilize and regain control of her failing plane like Chopper did in AC5. Just a bit of flight time as she's descending could've taken her miles out over the ocean.
Then, you just have her talking over the radio about the things that she's trying as she's getting close to the water, and have it cut to static mid-sentence or something, so you don't know whether she managed to eject successfully, or whether her plane hit the water and she would've had to climb out (like we did in the prologue).

Then just show a few seconds of cutscene after the mission with some SAR helicopters flying over the waves in the late afternoon, then evening, then night, and they eventually have to pull back to the Endurance.
If the XO had even just mentioned all of this stuff during the debriefing -- "we've got helicopters looking for her, but it's been hours, and there's so much ocean to cover" -- even that would've worked by itself, no cutscene, just with that slightly-longer descent.

That way, if she was way out in the open ocean, it makes way more sense that 1. our local forces didn't find her immediately, 2. SAR didn't find her because they had such a large area to cover, and the longer it took without finding her, the more she could've drifted, and 3. a ship's crew were the ones who found her floating out there way later.

In the minds of the devs / writers, I think that they're expecting us to remember our own shootdown and ocean impact from the prologue, and think, "well, if we made it out from that situation, then she could've, too." I think they were expecting that to do basically all of the work in the players' minds, and they forgot to make the rest of the scenario more believable.

You can write an essay on every plot hole and retarded bit of story telling in an Ace Combat game. My advice would be to save yourself a hernia and don't think about it.

I wish that we saw glimpses from other locations in the FCU -- both from our ground troops and civilians -- showing the progression of the war from a bigger picture than just the few operations that we were personally involved in.
Show us what people on the ground were suffering with. Show us devastation. Show us why they hated the Sotoans. Show us a demoralized army at the start of the game, and show them actually making territorial gains and talking about wanting revenge against Sotoa later on. An OBC news clip written at a 2nd-grade level and talking to one girl in Sheepistan is NOT enough to convey this stuff.
Like, by the time that we got to the battle to retake Expo City and had a bunch of FCU ground forces pressing forward against Sotoan positions with us, it really felt like they'd just materialized out of nothing. I want to have some sense of our growing forces.
Last I knew, we were shoving 2,000 retarded volunteers into LCACs for a suicide mission, we played around with spaceships for a few missions, and now we suddenly have an advancing army?

I'm not asking for an accompanying BBC documentary showing me starving civilians in 4K. Just 10 seconds here and there. Convey the narrative as it progresses, instead of giving us random glimpses with huge changes, or ignoring many parts of the war altogether.

And I *would* ask for more scenes with the crew to get to know them better... but after that weird scene with Tasha throwing basketballs at planes and like 5 minutes of dialogue that made no fucking sense, I don't think that they can actually write what we're hoping for.
Slice-of-life scenes would've been nice.
But the most direly-needed scene would be one toward the beginning, showing your squadmates at least *acknowledging* Cope's death and saying that "we have to move on," "we gotta stay focused," or something, just to explain away why they didn't seem to react to his death at all.

I figured that out but holy fuck there's so much going on in this one, the dog fights, the AA missiles, the annoying ass engine hitboxes, once I realized the rockets were a necessity, I would switch to them mid mission once I got all the obnoxious fighters off my ass. Still fucked, it makes me feel like I'm not playing this game right compared to the other titles so far which have been tough, but this one really pushed me.
>>585689089
In a weird way it's fun, like Dark Souls 2, but I still have my gripes... but fun is being had. Please tell me this is as brutal as it gets, I am on hard.
>>
>>585687753
I had a similar moment towards the end of the game regarding the spears and how they work. So the Sotoans were able to spear strike Rio Bajo, well beyond the rainband, right? So why didn't they lob a spear or 2 at bases they knew the FCU remnants were operating out of. Snyder's Top, White Valley, Seals Bridge, Fort Greys. Or even Comona island after the FCU seizes it.

I want Generation Kill-tier bants in the future game. I know they will never deliver because natural dialogue is still hard for japanese writers.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4awz4upebc
>>
>>585688798
The squad introduction works well as an introduction but makes no sense for the situation they're in.
Maybe they originally intended the player to join like a month after Cope's death, have a timeskip where you're recovering from the crash or whatever.
But then they scrapped that and just had the player join Joker squad like an hour after Cope dies and everyone who knew him does not care at all. They only care about checking out the new guy.
>>
>>585689243
>Please tell me this is as brutal as it gets
it's been a while since I actually did a playthrough of AC6, but I can think of one other time when it'll probably be harder for you

one time when it might be harder for you, but only if you let yourself get intimidated / overwhelmed

and one, maybe two other times where it might be around just as hard, but it shouldn't be harder
and aside from the first one that I'm thinking of, each of these can be mitigated by how you approach fights within the mission, just making sure not to put yourself in bad situations
>>
>>585689595
the dialogue is always more natural in japanese voiceovers, apparently
>>
>>585689243
You can still survive one missile hit on hard, from expert and above its one shot. That's the least of your problems though, stay very wary of AA and flak Guns.

There was definitely something cursed about the loc for AC8, either there were a fuckton of rewrites/changes WAY later than there should have been or the team were given way too little information, something was clearly wrong.
>>
>>585689595
yeah, uhhhhh, this dialogue doesn't sound natural to me AT ALL
I was just a little kid back then, but I still remember how people talked, and it wasn't with mini speeches written by aspiring Aaron Sorkin fans

it's a different context (police vs. military), but I'd say that the movie End Of Watch captures this kind of banter / idle chatter better

>>
>>585688798
Can't really add anything more to what you said. AC writers always have these grand ideas on delivering an epic story but they really don't have the talent to pull it off. The whole miniseries they did was so corny and hammy yet made me think they were going to do a lot of what you said in the story. Instead we got disjointed cutscenes that didn't really say much or go anywhere.
>>585689595
What you don't like Jackson spreading his ass for you?
>>585689660
Think what anon said about them at least acknowledging it but not having any time to dwell on it would work. Instead you got Tasha just having her supposed "mentor" die yet immediately start to muck about as if nothing happened. Her playing around with you would work but only after she has grown accustomed to you. In fact now I think about it there's a lot of scenes in game that could work if they were just moved to different points of the story.

Speaking of PW wonder if the devs considered a talking WSO at some point or even a nod to it? Like a mission where Tasha and Coster have to be the WSO for Kate and the player? Could imagine Coster being uncomfortable yet mostly chill as Kate's WSO but terrified of being the players WSO. Meanwhile Tasha would enjoy every minute of being the players WSO especially if they do a PSM but have an absolute temper tantrum if she was stuck being bored in the back of Kate's jet.
>>

>>
>>585691184
There are no boats on the warfare version of Fort Grays. It's pure A2A.
>>
>>585691226
M29 is a good challenge, but I do suspect the boss has brief invulnerability periods like Mihaly to allow enough time for the dialogue to proceed. M29 is easier than M28 for most players because M29 doesn't filter you if you can't into guns or didn't bring SASMs.

>>
>>585691467
I think you do have to hit Tewy to progress the fight, but like Mihaly her phases are both damage gated AND dialogue gated. So if you're too good and land a bunch of solid hits early, all your subsequent hits mean jack shit until you've heard the dialogue to progress to the next phase.
It's weird that after all these years and so many games after Zero, they've made mistakes with boss fight designs that they didn't make with Pixy.
>>

>>
ngl, kind of regretting putting in my resources and mrp in the F15C (level 15). Everything else with an LAAM dominates a2a
>>
>>585691832
PW figured this shit out already. Just give your boss and actual HP bar, that's it. Now you can have both the dialogue and the sense that the player is actually fighting the boss.
>>
>>585691753
He flies exactly like a PSM sweat from AC7 multiplayer, except he has better netcode.
>>
I like to think about how game mechanics relate to the player character. Like in ACZ there are no 2shot gnd tgts or 3shot planes. Because Cipher is so deadly.
AC04 has that heavier high AoA flight model because Mobius 1 feels the wind, he relies on lift rather than thrust.
Ac7 has hypermaneouvrable planes and insane missile tracking because Trigger is young and insane, he wants cool shit to happen and can take the Gs. AC8 has slower turning planes and worse missiles but massively buffed UGBs and guns because Rex is a boomer who still likes doing things the old fashioned way.
>>
>>585688785
it's fun the first time round not knowing what to expect.
I feel like part of the appeal of replaying this mission is to see how quickly you can style on topkek and his shadows, nerfing them kind of cheapens it and that is why it feels unnecessary. It is not like he is even cheap once you understand his pattern.
>>
>>585692235
From what I've read, the F-15C in Online is only useful as a cost effective SASM dispenser. And even then you need to unlock its level all three times to get SASMs.

>>585692238
I don't understand why campaign doesn't give you indications of enemy health beyond smoke coming from damaged enemies, but online gives you accurate health readings AND damage estimates for your currently equipped weapon.
>>

>>585692573
Fuck it then- I am aware this is me falling prey for the sunk cost, but if my team has to suffer while I fly around like a headless chicken until I unlock the SASMs... So be it
>>
>>585692795
If it helps, you can unlock the level cap without actually reaching the level cap. With enough ZOLL and blueprints you can unlock the cap all three times and have all SpW and part slots available on a Lv1 aircraft.
But yeah, online progression is garbage because other than the MiG-31 and the Su-34, most aircraft that are good in PvE suck in PvP and vice versa.
>>
>>585692795
You don' need to hit lvl 20 to get SASM, only unlock it.
>>
>>585692981
Nice. I'm actually pretty closer than I thought, just 50k more mrp needed
>>
>>585692235
LAAMs are good to kill NPCs, but SASMs are infinitely more useful against an aware player. The Eagle-C is perfectly serviceable as long as you know how to dodge a missile and favour head-on attacks.
>>585692795
You can uncap the moment you get a plane if you've got the blueprints, you don't need to level it.
>>
>>585688908
Stop being such a baby, you got S ranked.
>>
>>585692573
>I don't understand why campaign doesn't give you indications of enemy health beyond smoke coming from damaged enemies, but online gives you accurate health readings AND damage estimates for your currently equipped weapon.
Because there's no point. Everything dies in 1-2 missiles anyway, even bosses have about 6 missiles worth of hp.
>>
>>585688908
The only hard part of the mission is Strigon, who can be very annoying to deal with. The trick is to focus on the airships then use air assault to tell your allies to mop up Strigon for you. If you do that then it's a pretty easy mission overall.
>>
>>585693202
True, but damage estimates in campaign will at least make it clearer that class damage modifiers are a thing.
>>
>>585692978
Typhoon is great in PvE and competent in PvP. Especially when you've got 2 of them covering each other.
Probably not optimal though, would be better to have a dedicated LAAMer and dedicated knifefighter.
>>
>>585693468
NTA but is Strigon moving like Toprak or something? Never played AC6 but it sounds miserable if every single one of them are immune to missiles like him
>>
>>585693468
>air assault
I meant allied attack, don't know why the fuck I wrote air assault
>>
>>585693574
They're quite agile and standard missiles in AC6 have very bad standard tracking unless you fire them at the correct angle where you can get SHOOT to show up, which grants them much better tracking, but Strigon is very agile so getting into that position is hard, one thing feeds the other and it can make for a challenging fight sometimes.
>>
>>585693574
They're fast as hell and difficult to get a good angle on, but this can at least be mitigated by just Allied Attacking them and watching as everybody in a twenty kilometre radius swarms them.
>>
>>585693531
Are 4AAM/6AAM any good in PvP? LAAMboats can work in both Assualt and Warfare, but if I were to take LAAM into Warfare then I want a backup weapon for close range, even if it's just super buffed standard missiles.
>>
>>585693806
AAM can work in warfare against bots but generally no its a poor option.
>>
>>585692292

>>
>>585694003
Don't all PS2 games have tanks that take 2 standard missiles to destroy? I feel like they did but I'm not sure.
>>
>>585693806
4AAMs are not good vs players. They're OK for quickly farming up npc air targets at medium range or for killing helis from a distance.
You're better off just buffing standars and using that as your close range option. Or taking both levels of LRES and gunning people down.
Vs players you can sometimes bait out flares by spamming out 4AAM because people hit flares when they see 6 missile indicators.

I've been playing without using that mechanic mostly because I am just learning about it now because I just jumped straight into the game on a whim while talking with friends, so I wasn't putting any attention on th tutorial stuff even though I was aware I was probably missing out on a helpful mechanic, I'll probably look into it next time I boot it up. I'm definitely making this game harder than necessary, especially since I never really used the return line much in other games, so sometimes I just kinda keep going with a mission even if I'm down to just my guns to see how far I can go without resupply.
I'm lazy.

What you want, and what would be best for the series, is a game not written by Sunao Katabuchi. His problem is that he makes the player the main character of the whole war, everything else only exists in relation to the protagonist. And after the inevitable fall from grace (for something you didn't do) followed by redemption (for being the best ever pilot) it naturally ends with both sides of the initial conflict cheering for (You) as a revered symbol of good.
>I don't think that they can actually write what we're hoping for.
Look at X, they can do that very well, the format of the series has always worked for unconventional big-picture storytelling. But Katabuchi has pull in the industry so he was brought back in for 7 and 8. We just have to hope he's busy with somethign else so Bamco and Kono can get someone who isn't a hack to do the script for 9, preferably someone in-house at PA.

I wish there was fuckin battlepass content. The missions are dogshit and some are completely rng.
The supply creates/battlepass rewards are so Jewish; you need to roll every skin for each aircraft. Oh you got that cool skin? Only applicable to the F1/8E, keep rolling retard.
Got an emote? Cool ulyou got the (left) version!
Fuck even the 20 dollar premium battlepass only gives you 500 paid currency! Fortnite, fuck even call of duty refunds you the premium currency cost of the paid battlepass if you complete it.
The battlepass is 1k coins.
Everything is a grind, the generic blueprints are just fodder, and they knew they fucked up the allocation of Aircraft blueprints that's why you can purchase them for 1k each.
I hope they give up the online battlepass shit. I'd fucking hate for all the cool DLC planes from 7 be drip fed into a battlepass over the next 5 years. They already gimped the super planes. There's no nosfsratu or anything from the mission impossible dlc.

>>585704251
>>585704407
As a dev who does use AI...the difference is mainly in just how much oversight, checking and stuff you assign it. Vibecoded means that essentially AI has complete domain and control over it, you ask for something, it gives it to you...you check, if its still not what you wanted or its bugged, you give the entire thing back and ask to change it or fix it. You have very little or zero idea what does each segment of the code actually do.

The problem comes when non obvious issues pop up that the AI cant easily fix. Another is how LLMs dont necessarily optimize the logic flow or code so the app can come out very unoptimized an slow. Now that's not a problem if you are just trying to get something quick done but not so much an entire project

I'm certain it's a political boundary, at least that's how it makes by far the most sense.

Orbital mechanics and the satellite's orbit as shown in-game dictate that the Tonitrus Spear wouldn't be in a geosynchronous orbit, i.e. constantly be pointing at the Rainband and the area east of it.
Orbit time is given at 90 minutes (which is roughly similar to the ISS, also indicating it's orbiting fairly close to Strangereal-Earth, assuming it's the same size as real Earth), with the orbit running at a very high angle off the equator, almost perpendicular to it iirc. Assuming, again, Strangereal-Earth is as large as real Earth, this would mean the Tonitrus Spear would cover most of the world in the span of a few days (the planet is spinning at an angle below the satellite).

Obviously most other countries wouldn't be too happy about this thing flying around once they find out what it actually does. The idea here is to buy time and stall at the international political stage by exploiting the war-weariness of Osea and Yuktobania and the likely extremely unpopular idea of getting involved in another war on Usea to quickly steamroll the FCU before any real international response can be mustered. We see that several countries stopped viewing the FCU as a legitimate state just a few months into the war. It's effectively a big gamble with Sotoa believing nobody's going to call them out. Everything went perfectly according to plan as well, until the mute psychopath showed up and blew up the first landship.
The satellite's initial attack likely still ruffled a lot of feathers internationally, with Sotoa being busy assuaging fears and stalling by declaring they'll never use the satellite offensively again and establishing the Rainband as an exclusively defensive perimeter and political boundary to cover their HQ and main staging areas in eastern Usea and the ocean. It's also why they use the blimps, it's for show. The satellite doesn't need the laser.

True, but I actually like that. Strigon does a really good job of feeling like a fully manned enemy squadron given how often you run into them so I don't actually mind that they're on the easier side. They have more members so it makes sense that they're less skilled on average.
I mean, look at Sol in 7. There's not very many of them and they always show up fashionably late.

I thought the use of blimps with laser targetting was specifically for very cloudy conditions when trying to hit a moving target. And that they can hit static targets just fine.
>>
>>585714687
This is what I figured too. The blimps are for moving targets that the satellites can't pick up for some reason or another
>>
>>585714774
Also the weapon is mostly used against ships and not planes, since they are relatively slow and are much bigger targets.
>>
>>585711154
I still think its a plothole that the very moment the spear was used to cover up Enso essentially targeting people across the world Sotoa should have been turned to glass instantly. Nobody in their right mind is going to wait for them to explain themselves.

People estimate that strangreal is smaller than earth based on the cross referencing maps of strangreal with the projected ranges of the battleship. You're correct that the orbits don't make sense, and I think that could be just due to PA not understanding orbital mechanics just like they fuck up estimating casualty counts. I think that lasers are necessary to boost precision for striking a moving ship sized target but aren't needed for engaging static targets.

I think it is important to remember that the war against the fcu and San salvacion were not the primary objectives of the conflict. Both wars were smokescreens to give battleship 2 a means to wander close enough to the elevator to capture it before global forces could muster a response. The goal was checkmating the planet with a constellation of spear satellites. The fcu war was a mere stepping stone to that ultimate goal. If the rain band was a political construct, it doesn't make sense why sotoa would violate the rainband and risk global reprisal before battleship 2 could complete its goal.

I feel like it's a mix of them not knowing orbital mechanics, and and forgetting to put Rio Bajo in the rain band.

I suspect later strikes can be explained by satellite 2 being an updated model, and Enso performing techno wizardry to update the fire control systems remotely.

Rex is said to fly like the wind, so gentle, smooth, and adaptable. Which is a good style for a marksman.

>>
>>585716230
how long has it been since you played 7?
About 2 months. Finished a replay 3-4 weeks before AC8 came out.
Aside from 3 7 has the best standard missile tracking in the series once parts are applied. And even before parts aside from 6's missiles with the SHOOT mechanic.
3 is the only entry with lead homing standards but it has a very different drifty flight model and all missiles also act like semi-SAAMs(you can improve their tracking by keeping your target in the box at the centre of your screen). 3's standards also have a warmup time where they can't track worth shit for the first ~500m.
>>
>>585716472
There is literally no reason not to do this, the Terminator can handle both A2A and A2G and is the best at both(until you get to the postgame superplanes).
>>
>>585716349
I'm assuming you played the game with the cheat mod that allows you to use the tier 2 homing parts and the data link in SP, either that or you're shitposting.
>>585716541
>how long has it been since you played 7?
I just finished a replay 30 minutes ago, these missiles have shit tracking and can be dodged by moving slightly in another direction, and that's before factoring in that enemies are now much more agile in the air, there's only on homing part and even with it the missiles are still worse than those in the PS2 games.
>>
How baldness inducing would campaign be if enemy aces are not restricted to Fox 2 missiles aside from whatever gimmicks they may have?
>>
>>585717023
Drones are more evasive than PS2 enemies but if you had actual PS2 missile tracking you'd never hit anything in AC7.
AC7 has objectively better tracking missiles. They have a larger tracking cone and a faster turn rate.

Nigga i did 100% on AC7 and AC8 an played all the other games. No cheats used, ever.
Tracking in the PS2 era games even gets "jammed" if you are slightly turning or rolling.
AC8 missles are clunky if you don't boost them with a lot of parts.
AC7 missles are easily the better compared to all of the others.
>>
>>585717906
No, they straight up have a higher turnrate. They're not slower either, if anything they're slightly faster(and you can use parts to make them even faster).

You can't just "war" your way to technological progress. When technology stagnates, it's usually either a materials science problem, a chemistry problem, or a resource problem. Like the space elevator is purely material sciences problem and if we had the materials then we would have built one decades ago.
Cold War resulted in a splurge in R&D funding that completely oneshotted research for maybe a century or more.

i don't think the technology is the issue; technology is constantly improving in basically every way and it's gotten to the point that the economics literally cannot keep up because of its inefficiency, so it stands to reason that the current economic system in use is the bottleneck, not technology

There is a constant "I want to do X" and more than enough funding to do so, the problem is almost always "it is currently physically impossible to do so."
A good example of this is aeronautics in the 1800's. For a long time it was assumed by the scientific community that heavier than air flight was physically impossible, not because birds were fake or something, but because no power source existed that was small enough and energy efficient enough to make it happen. Steam powered planes? Impossible because the more coal you add to power the damn thing, the heavier it is and the harder it is to get off the ground. It wasn't until the early 20th century with gas powered engines that heavier than air flight became physically possible.
So the underlying problem here was a chemistry problem, not a "what if we threw more money at it?" problem.
>>

ZOG fractal corruption, insane 4D financialization sorcery, extreme deindustrialization, mass dysgenics, and near-total atomization and demoralization makes WWIII effectively impossible. None of the countries outside of China can actually produce the arms to support total conventional warfare, none of the elites are intelligent or sane enough to run massive operations, and none of the peasants want to die for their country. WWIII, if forced into existence, would be the gayest and lamest thing that has ever happened in human history.

R&D is arguably the easier half because all it takes knowledge and funding. the US for example has always been at the forefront of modern R&D because their socio-economic system allows for it but they haven't really ever been a society that experiences the benefits of that R&D trickling down to everybody else - outside of major mid-late 20th century military applications - for that same reason. in my opinion mass production, the other half, is more difficult because it not only requires prior R&D but it also requires additional funding, space and resources which, given sufficient advancement of technology, will inevitably run into a roadblock if the nation behind it doesn't have a large enough population and therefore a system of governance which is ineffective at collectivizing enough resources efficiently to make it happen

basically, we're already at the point where R&D has pushed the possibilities so far ahead that most ordinary people don't even realise how futuristic modern technology truly is because there's not enough funding to mass produce all of that technology

That might be the case but tapping is also a very interesting observational device. Ill quote this story with no source and probably some incorrect facts

In NYC there was a problem, a subway train can pull up and brake and land in different positions, the train operator needs to look out to where they are, and open the subway doors accordingly so they dont open a door that just falls onto the tracks due to misalignment (Train parks too far forward or back, some doors open but dont lead to the terminal, people walk off and fall). It was happening rather often. They made signs that line up with the operator telling them what doors to open based on where they park, and made it policy that people had to look at the sign before opening the door. There were still common instances of the door opening faults. They added one step from japanese train operators. They made it policy to not only look at the sign, but they also need to point at the sign. Instances of the fault dropped almost entirely.
To summarize, theres a different between looking, and observing. A person taking off the plane many times might grow numb to looking at the fuel gauge, and one time look straight at it empty, and not have that register to them. Pointing makes them force themselves to observe.

A large part of the apparent lack of technological 'stagnation' is that what we have is already good enough and more resource-efficient than more 'advanced options. For military tech it comes down to force, as in F=MA, literally the ability to destroy their personal/equipment by hitting it with stuff. Sure we COULD make missiles which are faster or more explosive, and 'better' planes to carry them. But the stuff we have is already powerful and fast enough for most purposes.

There's a subtle parallel I think between Sotoa/Moon 11 and DD/Cope/Ray.
Sotoa is a full on larp and Moon 11 believes the larp to the point of making ridiculous statements about "raising animals", which Cope says are false. It's all complete fiction to sell the idea of Sotoa as this modern day Mongol Empire, to the detriment of everyone including themselves.

Tewey may have been squeemish of the blood from slaughtering or castrating livestock, but her people didn't shirk the tasks.

It feels weird seeing all the self-hating leaf posts in /aceg/ of all places just because Theve is Toronto. Not that I'm complaining about it, it's genuinely surprising to see anti-jeet sentiment slowly growing more mainstream, and for understandable reasons but it's been an odd change watching canucks go from mostly happy shitposters to instantly decrying their state of affairs the instant Canada is mentioned.

Some tracks from 7 they used for the Arsenal Birds definitely hit the 3 feel. I do think a new game definitely won't be a 3 remake though, at best it will be set in 3's setting, but we control another human pilot or something analogous to that. Nemo would be the enemy probably.
They definitely aren't going to do the anime cutscenes again but I could see them bringing back the old character designer to adapt the old characters to 3D if that has to happen.

Yeah, the lasers are an assistance for terminal guidance against small and/or moving targets. I thought I had put that in my first post, but I struggled with the 2000 character limit and forgot about deleting it.
The stupidly obvious and huge blimps have a reason to be around, although they could probably solve it more elegantly, but very coincidentally they're an equally obvious "here be dragons" sign too.

>>585715271
Yeah, I take numbers from PA with a very large grain of salt, it's like Warhammer levels of reliability. It's probably best to not think too hard about hard science, numbers and plot holes in games like AC and just roll with it because it sounds really cool.

I've found the sudden world domination plot kind of weird honestly. I think 8's at times overly melodramatic writing is its biggest weakness because of the plot holes it ends up creating. Handwaving them away with "ackschyually Enso did it" feels too cheap and muddies the waters too much.
Why would Sotoa care about what Enso says when they have the satellites in orbit? Enso can remotely control the warheads, but at least the X-40 has a remote override. Who gets to control the satellites and the warheads in the end?
Why would the ship basically go sightseeing for so long when it could just drive to the Elevator and do the thing it's meant to do in the first place? They just so happen to wait until the FCU makes a comeback so they can set up an epic cunning diversion scheme and create the next epic tension-building melodrama moment where the world is saved at the last moment, but at a cost.

The Alicorn DLC is short, but each mission is perfect.
>Unexpected Visitor
Great furball and good use of clouds, and I mean that last part. The way the map is designed is perfect for the inherent systems that AC7 introduced. Also has Shamrock squadron, who probably paved the way for 8's Gemma squadron and others.
>Anchorhead Raid
Perfect level. I've played this probably a million times, and the fight against Mimic at the end doesn't feel like a drag (like Tewy or Mihaly ) but instead a great capstone to the level's point destruction objective. This is what Ace Combat should be from an arcade gameplay standpoint.
>Alicorn
While the first part drags a little, the actual boss fight is among the best in the series - and Torres himself is of course a treat.

7's campaign is overall a mess with a few highlights, but the DLC trilogy is nothing but hits.

I think it benefits from being a coherent self contained story because it is short. AC7 and even AC8 the story is all over the place.
>>
>>585745992
To me it is level design. The story is good, but all of the levels are really fun to replay. When it comes to 7's main campaign, only Long Day, Fleet Destruction, and Farbanti compare.
Modern Ace Combat really shines with these big sandboxes where you can choose how you want to approach the level, and can get really good at speedrunning it. There's no reason for levels outside of the early campaign to be linear or overly self-contained, it's not 2001 anymore.

>Why would the ship basically go sightseeing for so long when it could just drive to the Elevator and do the thing it's meant to do in the first place?
My take is that the elevator is an asset of global significance and that making an obvious beeline towards the elevator likely would have caught the attention of foreign observers and increased the risk of a third party such as Osea intervening to protect the elevator. I think that Sotoa invaded the FCU so that they could invade San Salvacion, and then they invaded San Salvacion so that they could give Battleship 2 a reason to plaudibly get geographically close to the elevator without making it obvious that the elevator was the target. Then they suddenly diverted course to dash to the elevator once they were close enough that foreign parties didn't have time to react.

As for the global domination thing, that was Enso's trap. They knew that the Sotoan warlords wouldn't be able to say no to that power. But ultimately Enso was pulling an Ozymandias. Create a monster that they controlled to unite the world against a common threat. Use the weapons to ravage the existing governments, and then use their backdoor control of the weapons to ensure that the unified resistance would defeat sotoa. The Sotoans might not even be a player in the fight. Unbeknownst to the world, Enso might have planned to rug pull sotoa and keep the Sotoans under house arrest on their mega floats while puppetting the spears and automated battleships and Games to fight a pretend war against the global resistance.

>>585746242

I've found they rack up a surprising amount of kills for me in multiplayer. Not exactly SU-34 UGBLs in terms of guaranteed MVPs each round but I've pulled off a lot of MVPs in the F-18E from just randomly chucking 6AAMs into furballs.

The most important thing is that you can't really use them for head-ons anymore, which was the primary use case for them in all previous games. The head-on tracking is nerfed too much.

It's just a MIRV-equipped ICBM, and AWWNB was staffed with philosophy-obsessed loonies and barely-disguised Belkan hardliners. Either they didn't think it through, or they were only in for revenge against the Allies.

Because they're not allowed on multiplayer. If Linux was allowed into Online, we would not be hearing the complaints about that.
>noooo, they’ll never balance anything ever!
It's been a month since the game was released and the only balancing they've mentioned lacks understanding of the problem. This is why people aren't hopeful about good balancing in the future. If they've identified the balancing issues better and communicated them, then this would not be an issue.
>noooo, they’ll never add more content!
That's because they did not say they will add more content.
>No, they’ll make you pay for every plane!
This is what they've done historically. They've not mentioned any changes to the contrary. If they did, people would not be saying this.
>No, they’ll never do any DLC!
Nobody says this, because they did say they will do DLC.
>No. nothing good will ever happen!
Nobody says this.

I think that would've taken too much away from Neucom. Their high altitude/space capabilities are considered pretty advanced in-game, GR has to strap modified future Blackbirds to rockets just to have a chance at intercepting Neucom's first attack on White Valley base. Plus part of Zero Gravity's appeal is that nobody in or out of the game was expecting a weaponized spaceplane to intercept GR satellites, having the broke bitch FCU pull off something similar ten years prior to the Intercorporate War would take too much away from Neucom's shtick of dangerous bleeding edge tech.

Fucking this. It's starts off great but then you quickly realize it's a fucking Chore Game where 90% of what you do is chores (collect these items, deliver this item, do these challenges ect ect ect for miniscule rewards)

Pokopia is ironically the most original Pokemon game since Snap 1.

You've got at least four campaign playthroughs to get all the medals. Just switch languages between playthroughs, it's always worth experiencing both.

Do you want anything from the current gacha pool? If yes, spend them. If no, hold onto them since they'll likely switch it out next battlepass season. If they don't then you haven't missed out on anything, you'll still have a bunch of tickets for the same prizes.

Better worldbuilding than strangereal, but that's to be expected since they have a much bigger budget.

I actually played through most of the campaign with the Rafale my first time round. LACM+LAAM is a god combo.
On the topic of LACM, I can't believe that they actually managed to get Storm Shadow / SCALP-EG production restarted. It's been 15 years since the last one was manufactured. Truly you can just do things
>>
Should I just assume AC8 is not going to present in the best OST nomination either?

I'm doing my multirole/ace/s run with rafale and it's been much easier than elite so far. Being able to just delete land aegises with one click is fun.

It's kind of disappointing, with China developing them now I thought AC8 had a chance. Would have been cooler than the not-arsenalbird transports.
Will have to settle for replaying World in Conflict again.

The main problem with ground-effect flight is that perturbations in terrain become perturbations in pitch stability which is why they have fuckhueg tail surface to compensate. Even then the KM/Lum-class couldn't sea state above ~3m which is why they were basically restricted to the Caspian Sea's relatively calm waters. Other ekranoplanes typically have limited cruise flight ability (at the expense of fuel) to get over such obstacles as well as for turning but the KM/Lum were too heavy for that.
>>
>>585766175
AC5 has excessive amounts of forced flying scenes where you're not allowed to do anything so people can talk.
AC8 doesn't constantly waste your time so it's much better. It does have the fucking alcoholic submarine but it's still nowhere near as bad as 5.
>>

From my experience, if you fire off LACM at long range the CIWS just doesn't engage the missile, I think the AI turns off at range. Stack lock range mods and you'll delete them unopposed.
It was like this in 7 too. You could delete the AEGIS ASHORE in Anchorhead Raid really early on like that.
>>
>>585766538
>forced flying scenes where you're not allowed to do anything so people can talk
Besides having a mission dedicated to this, AC8 also has this almost every mission from mission 20 onwards or so. If you're clearing things fast enough at least.
>>
>>585766565
Never had lacm get deleted by ciws. I think it does top attack and ciws is unable to fire directly upwards maybe?
>>
>>585766779
> if you fire off LACM at long range the CIWS just doesn't engage the missile, I think the AI turns off at range.
That's probably why LAAMs are just so devastating vs AI planes.
>>
>>585766779
>You could delete the AEGIS ASHORE in Anchorhead Raid really early on like that.
Sorry, not the Aegis Ashore, they're offline anyway. I was thinking of the carriers and Aegis in mission 11.

>they function similarly to the ladons

Not to the extent AC5 does it. The amount of time you spend in 5 flying in circles killing a few slowly respawning enemies while people talk is crazy.
