Man, by the time this Kira Kira improvement patch is done I'd say about 80% of the game has had to be rewritten/touched up. I knew it's translation was bad on a pure grammar, punctuation etc. level but I didn't know it was this bad. I even gave it specific instructions not to rewrite character voice, jokes, puns, idioms and localization that works well in English so as not to flatten the translation but... it's just so fucked.I guess I shouldn't be surprised since it is 2009 era MangaGamer. This screenshot is basically a snapshot of the typical response I'm seeing at the start of every new batch to touch up. The previous batch had 448 revisions and only 33 unchanged lines. The one before that 416 revisions, 15 unchanged. I'm 21k lines in and it's been like this nearly every batch. Was the MG translation actually just poorly edited 2009 google translate? The real human spirit on display here.

If you use an AI translation, then you have no guarantee that what you're reading is accurate or even faithful to the source material. The AI Translator can completely misunderstand figurative speech. Nuance and flowery language can be lost in translation. Scenes can be completely misunderstood and incorrectly translated. Character arcs can be butchered if key dialogue is mistranslated. Themes can be misunderstood if the prose isn't properly translated.You need a human touch to make sure that the translation is accurate. And like I said earlier, if you're using an AI to translate a 100,000 script, then there is no human touch. The person using it has already proven that they either don't have the talent to read Japanese or the passion to actually translate it the old fashioned way. And as a result, they're not going to do a passionate, throughout reading of the AI script that is cross-referenced with the original source material to ensure its accurate.
