Never because China cares very deeply about their public image and would never allow their equipment to be portrayed in a losing scenario. But PA could easily work around this by making extremely-similar-but-legally-distinct knockoffs of Chinese designs. Even Project Wingman had their own J-20-fied version of an F-22. Picrel for example, I always thought the "H-9" helicopter was a Blackhawk helicopter but only recently found out it's its own separate Strangereal-exclusive thing.

Is every country in Strangereal rich as fuck or is military hardware dirt cheap and in massive overabundance across the whole planet?
>>
>>585947298
The answer is oddly "yes" to both.
Like Usea is supposed to be a third world continent that got hit by several dozen asteroid pieces, and yet is fully functional as a first world economy.
And at the same time, countries can throw money at superweapons that are regularly destroyed.
>>
https://youtu.be/SkNQ1HDKAzs?
>>
>>585947298
An F-22 costs 50k Zollars so I'm guessing military hardware is just dirt cheap.
But that's ACO and its canonicity is questionable so if we use ACZ an F-22 costs a Mercenary unit 181k. An Su-37 is only 130k.
Then again in AC5 an F-22 is only 24k.
So maybe it was 24k in 2010 but 19 years of inflation pushed it up to 50k by ACO and the only reason it was so "expensive" in ACZ is that Osea was ripping Ustio off because they knew Ustio had no other options.
But all of those prices are laughably low compared to the real world cost of the aircraft(around 150 million).

They just didn't have billionaires until very recently. When you don't have billionaires, every citizen can afford an f-16, and when the citizens have such buying power, price of everything goes down because of mass production.
Unfortunately, billionaires have begun emerging recently to ruin things for everyone.

You can unironically make anything work if you're a good enough pilot. The only thing "multirole" does in-game is set your damage multipliers against different targets. The sp weapons, flight models, and abilities are all individual to the plane.
Lots of multiroles suck, but that's because of those other factors. Changing them from multirole to fighter or attacker isn't going to magically make them good
For recs:
>air superiority
Morgan is cancer with TLS + ECM
Gripen is good with LAAM + SASM
>ground pound
Rafale is a sniper with LAAM + LACM
F/A-18E can larp as an attacker with better maneuverability if you use SOD + QAAM to defend yourself from enemy pilots

Yes anon, that's the plot of Mission 5. Enso spy sats take some voyeur photos of the ship's big guns, which are actually smaller than the FCU thought. The FCU gets big dicked by the battleship and has to pull out of Theve, and they discover the spy pics were doctored by counterintel to make the guns look smaller and less scary, so they also thought they'd have less range.

Meet back next thread to discuss why a crab is not a sun.

Sure we see the GR logo and blew right past all the nuggets while we know what it means and what will come next. But they missed out on something good to really sell the yes GR won big in this war.
During the ending credits it should have cut to GR board room full of old suits all they are doing is laughing as the screen fades back to black. It would confuse the hell out of the nuggest but any long time players would know exactly what we are seeing.

Part of it is just that production priorities are different. DD made a comment in one of the first few cutscenes where he remarked that something like his smartphone could be standard-issue for Usean soldiers if the budget was different. So economies of scale let fighter craft be comparatively cheaper than IRL, but in contrast things like smartphones are more expensive.

Also, IRL planes are massively overpriced when you consider how many are built today vs how many planes were built during WWII. To an extent the MIC scaled down production but raised prices to keep their income the same. Well, not the same. More like hilariously increased.

anything with UGBs is top tier, SOD is your second best SpW, su34 exclusively has UGBL and abnormally high maneuverability so it stands at the top
>multiroles
class based damage bonuses/maluses only apply to missiles & guns so multiroles are effectively just fighters with a different SpW selection that can 1-msl most ground targets, since very few planes can take 3 hits

Use the mirage for ground attack in assault mode until you unlock the Su-34. Then use the Su-34 for ground pounding in assault/warfare. The su-25 with gunpods/SFFS is king for super weapon fights.

>Thanks anon, appreciate it. Are multiroles just not worth it then?
Multiroles can be worth it in ASSAULT mode. You're griefing if you ground pound in a multirole in WARFARE mode.

In assault mode you often are just pounding trash targets, so your low air to ground damage doesn't matter and what's more important is efficient areas of effect. So something like an Su-47 can dish out good numbers with dumb bombs and some +radius parts. Some missions have you fight more robust targets like warships or heavy howitzers where the lack of damage makes you feel inefficient.

In warfare mode the heavy targets are both more common AND players get score multipliers as they earn score. So denying your attacker the opportunity to single-handedly flatten the ground targets can deny your team a shit ton of points.

It has opponent radio chatter and they shit their pants whenever you pass them or just put pressure on them. It's great.
Love hearing lines like <<I can't catch up!!>> or <<How did 76 get that speed?>>. It even has a dedicated Rival that's much faster than the rest of the field and has a much larger "scare" bar so you can't just ride her ass for 3 corners and make her crash. And of course when you finally fill up that bar you hear <<Please, MAKE IT WORK!!>> as she dives into a corner too fast and spins out.

IT also had a race engineer that acted like an AC AWACS. Unlike other racing games where your engineer would only call out things like "car to your left" and "clear left" after you finish the overtake this guy would constantly comment on your driving technique and how close you were to the guy ahead and encourage you to go for the overtake. With lines like <<Show him you're in a league above!>> and <<Excellent, he's bound to lose it soon!>>.

And yes, the game does actually use the <<>> brackets for radio chatter.

Oh, and my personal favourite. After you max out someone's scare bar and then overtake them while they're still at max scare your engineer might say
<<Yeah, make them remember the number 76!>>
It was about as AC as a racing game could get.

The only real problem is the difficulty, normal is far too easy, hard is not that difficult if you know which cars to pick but if you pick the wrong ones some of the longer championships are insanely difficult. Because the gap in performance is huge.
Also the game never tells you when to shift and it makes a huge difference. In some cars you have to shift at the rev limiter while in others you have to massively shortshift.
But I honestly loved the cheesy story and it made me want to see a real defined protag in Ace Combat as well. And Rena is still completely silent during races, she only talks during the cutscenes.

He wouldn't be too old like Mobius or Phoenix, he wouldn't be somewhere else like Trigger, Talisman or Gryphus, and he spent like a third of his game fighting against proto GR specifically to prevent the scenario that ends up happening. Pike, D.D, Kate and Coster also know and between D.D's resources and connections and Pikes willingness to make her own missions without commands input I could see them waging a Razgriz style shadow war against the corporate world order

There are so many cool sounding cancelled games, it just makes me sad. My top pick would be Star Wars Imperial Commando, a sequel to Republic Commando.

I want an AC game where you play the invader, the aggressor

They might as well give it a shot. With Konami unlikely to make a new mgs, let alone a good one, and Splinter Cell seemingly straight up dead, there is an open market in the modern war stealth game scene

It's probably the perfect time to do it too. A game set between AC8 and AC8 (provided 9 takes place around electrospheres time) would soften the tonal whiplash of "You did it wings! You stopped the corporate world takeover!" That was at the end of AC8 and the inevitable result still being the same. A mgs style game about fighting GR as a neucom/fcu/independent agent would go hard af as is

/aceg/, what's the coolest mid-tier plane in AC Online? Did some math and I'll only be able to buy and max one more Tier 2 plane before the next battlepass comes, assuming I earn 5 general blueprints each day and I'm also max uncapping planes I already have. Online is so dead that if you try to join a game as a nugget, everyone else on your team instantly leaves.
>>
>>585991647
I've reached the point where I'm questioning if people are actually deliberately leaving. I think some people might be crashing and then the game auto-kills the lobby. I know I would be 200% A-OK with three AI teammates in assault/warfare missions whose sole purpose is to roll the dice for an emergency sortie.
>>
>>585991452
I know what you mean I was really let down by that mission. 30 seconds after I start the attack its already mostly dead. I really don't know what they were thinking when they designed this mission. 30 might be annoying but at least it gives you something to do this one is over in like 30 seconds.
>>
>>585992106
I think they thought "wow, the players will have lots of targets and the pillars are like Fleet Destruction!"
But the problem is Fleet Destruction has a tunnel run section where you take out a whole airfield all at once, and this... doesn't have that...
>>
>>585991769
I've had a few times where the game times out and kicks me back to the menu when I'm on the loading screen. I assume in those cases everyone else gets kicked back to lobby.
Assault at least will pad out the teams with up to four bots if it can't find enough humans in time. If it finds a human and they lose connection then it kills the game, but if it can't find a human in the first place it's fine with it. Which makes the game a lot more enjoyable since these maps don't have enough enemies for eight people.
>>
>>585989910
As long and drawn out as that scene is and the Kate fakeout being like a brick thrown at an otherwise okay scene, it's probably the most emotional deaths of one of our squadmates. I still think Chopper's death is better overall but Baxter's death hurts bad.
>>
>>585992106
I slammed into the central spire the first time I played because I assumed it was like 7 and you needed to tunnel run to knock out all the platforms at once. I think they really wanted to make 8 as normalfag friendly as possible so they cut out anything that requires a modicum of piloting ability. End result is that 7 has far more unique missions despite being 2/3 as long.

Also because it's Barry, the bots that are there from the start are always Chie and Lisa on one team and Lee and Emma on the other.
I think the inheriting score thing is broken too since our rank magically changed from S to A once the round ended. That was pretty bullshit.

>basically adopting their propaganda mythos for the story outline of a video game
there's really no similarity
just having a pilot with the nickname "the [Noun] of [Capital City]" isn't enough to say that

it would be like if someone got inspired by Star Wars and decided to write a story where the bad guy wore black armor and had a red sword but literally every other detail about the story was different
like he's a red-sword-wielding, black-armored samurai in ancient Japan and they're fighting a war that started over an inheritance dispute against some other faction that's summoning oni demons and someone's desperately trying to tell me, "no, really, this is like 100% based on Star Wars"
at some point it's so far-removed from whatever may or may not have inspired it that the connection doesn't even matter anymore
you could even call that samurai "Vaderu-sama" or something and it wouldn't make one story the same as the other

>the parallels
>Like Fort Grays and Ukrainian pockets in Azovstal
they are nothing alike, at all, except in that both groups stayed in a place for longer than others would think was normal
this is an incredibly surface-level understanding of things

>or the prologue map being 1:1 based on the bridge from Ukraine to Crimea
there is no bridge like that between Ukraine and Crimea
Crimea is a peninsula
the E97 motorway passes over land
the E105 has two tiny bridges over the Chongar Strait, and the T2202 also has a tiny bridge just north of Armyansk, but each of these are like 200 feet long, if not shorter
that's the length of like two aisles in a normal American grocery store

if you meant the Kursk bridge between Crimea and Krasnodar (to the east of Crimea), then it just doesn't look like the bridge from the prologue
there are at least a few similarities here
but the path that the bridge takes is different, the architecture is different, the island is different, and the vertical supports look completely different
see pic related

maybe if you're absolutely fucking determined to force a square peg into a round hole

if the FCU had just undergone a coup of its last government, backed by the Osean state department, and if the new replacement government were then responding to ethnically-Sotoan minorities in Usea calling for independence and reunification with Sotoa by going to war with them, which then prompted the Sotoans to start sending in their own troops to Usea with all of their national emblems and uniform patches taken off while pretending that they weren't doing it, and if the war went on from there, THEN I'd start listening

but I think that "what if the real story wasn't actually true, and you, the protagonist, had to step up to try to fill those shoes" is just too vague of a story idea, even when combined with calling him "Noun of Capital," to go "this is 1,000% Russia vs. Ukraine!!!"

some things can just be passing inspirations or incidental similarities
that doesn't then turn the whole rest of the story into an allegory
that's the main point I'm trying to make

The FCU's fucking capital, which did not even have a name until 8, is named Theve which rhymes with Kyiv. Katabuchi knows writers who use subtext and he thinks they're all cowards. It's weird how they brought back on-map resupply for this game but never let you land on the damn Endurance when it's actually present on the map.
>>
>>586004098
The even better thing is you can land on a carrier and resupply, as long as you're playing the free flight/training mode online. That's the only time you can do it. That was worth spending dev time on.

but were there any missions where it would've made sense within the context of the events in the mission to land on the Endurance?
I can't think of any missions with the Endurance present where it wasn't also an escort target

they can't really let you go sit on the deck when the thing is under attack
that would undermine the urgency and vulnerability of it as an escort target

I know that they undermine plenty of other systems (like the mission timer, when the resupply animation shows you going back to a base hundreds of miles away when you supposedly only had 4 minutes left to complete the urgent mission objectives, and you'll still have 4 minutes when you get back from your hours-long trip), but I guess this would just be a bridge too far

They got Rex, unless the prep time is too short to plan out something more elaborate since it's literally coming in the next day after the liberation?

Are their wars really apocalyptic? The Sotoan-FCU war seemed to be among the worst we've seen, but killed "only" a million people. WW1, Russian Civil War, WW2, Korea, Chinese Civil War, Vietnam, Iran-Iraq, and GWOT as a whole all have casualties which exceed this. The presentation is epic, but in terms of actual doctrine, Strangereal countries actually seem more reserved than we do. They love war more than us, but not as much as we love genocide.

Also, according to the game itself, each Tonitrus spear has a yield of 10 tons of TNT, which means each is equivalent to a MOAB. it's not half bad, but it's definitely very early days. It's surreal seeing AC3 maps with this much geometry. I'm pretty sure the upgraded models/maps/visuals are only in the first mission at the moment
it does have options for 1:1 and a clean look for the visuals too which help, and while there's probably still a ton of bugs, I did see someone in the github issues page say that they made it through all five routes, so it does work for what you might want it for

On the main campaign menu San Salvacion is a big country that contains Stonehenge.

But the borders don't. There's clearly another country there. Now that I look most of the older maps have that unnamed country too, so I guess they decided to change it for 8? But they forgot to update the free mission map.
Though it also makes more sense for the plot for Stonehenge to be in another country because if it is part of San Salvacion then them not reacting at all to Sotoa invading them is weird.
Shit I don't know.

A possible reading is that San Salvacion and the country below it unified, possibly to present a united front against Erusea to the west and the still growing FCU to the east.
Then when shit got bad and the Sotoans invaded perhaps they split apart again.
The main campaign map also has the old FCU borders on it, as the Endurance does not recognise these traitors waggling their tail for Sotoa as legitimate countries. So perhaps it also didn't update the San Salvacion borders, maybe as a way of showing solidarity in not recognising splinter states.
>>
>>586007143
FCU is to poor to afford B-2's while a B-21 is just out of the question meaning they couldn't sneak up on it. If you had been playing as Osea once more. You would have had choices in how to deal with them

Oh it'd be nutty in multiplayer but I imagine it could be (somewhat) balanced by having it use mechanics similar to a SAAM in that you have to keep the target inside an aiming circle for the laser to track. The tradeoff is that the aiming circle could be a lot smaller than that of the SAAM. Picrel is what I had in mind.

You can have latitude/long on other planets. How lat/long translates to kilometers depends on the radius of the planet. Just because the missions have lat/longs doesn't necessarily mean that strangreal doesn't have a smaller radius than Earth.

AC9 will make you the cute backseater

The problem with the WSO being an actual character is that it basically forces you to bring a two-seater to every mission so you can have that dialogue.
I guess they could be given their own aircraft otherwise, but then that'd mean that taking a two-seater would deprive you of a wingman. Maybe have them help operate the AWACS?

There should have been an additional mission between Selene and Song of Wings where you have to defend the peace negotiations from terrorist (Enso) drones and Ventus/Gemma help you if they're still alive, as a homage to ACES in AC5.
>>
>>586066542
Common courtesy, basically. Pilots are not only non-combatants once they've ejected, but pilots are fucking expensive to train.
>>
>>586066770
But there's no legal reason to make it so, no? You could give your fully armed paratroopers the cheapest plastic glider and have them immediately eject and the enemy would be unable to shoot them before they land.
>>
>>586067057
But they're not non-combatants! I think ejecting pilots should be legally forced to be unarmed while going on sortie so once they eject they actually are non combatants.
Maybe give them a machete or something for basic forest survival but definitely not a firearm.
>>
>>586066542
One is a part of a deliberate move by one of the sides with the intent of waging war, the other isn't regardless of what they were doing before or after. If you want the edgy answer to sound smart or whatever, its because pilots are expensive and good for leverage if captured. So if you start shooting them not only you gain nothing from it but you will also piss off the other side to start doing it or worse.

>>

Shooting ejected pilots after they've landed is not a war crime, right? You don't have to try to capture them and demand their surrender, that's just what you commonly do because pilots are valuable for prisoner exchanges.
So if you're allowed to shoot them then how are they not combatants? Are they only non combatants while dropping and then immediately become combatants as soon as they land?

>You don't have to try to capture them and demand their surrender
Broadly speaking, you do. Because they’re non-combatants. Just like you can’t shoot retreating enemies or POWs or sailors that have abandoned ship. Obviously, if you demand their surrender and they respond with “Fuck you Belkan!” and start blasting, then they’re no longer a noncombatant.

Nah man, if an enemy pilot lands and then tries to run back to allied lines you are 100% allowed to shoot them. This would be illegal if they were actually non combatants.

They are essentially evading capture at that point and can be shot.

They wasted billions of dollars on the thing to replace jets like the 16 and when that fell apart they're trying to sell them off in shady ways to allies. The 35 project was a Military Industrial scam

Resisting capture is a hostile act, no? So as long as you've made it know that they are in fact in enemy territory and should surrender to your forces and they haven't complied they're a legal target.
Plenty of pilots died trying to escape enemy territory and it was not treated as a war crime.

> Resisting capture is a hostile act, no?
No.
Well, maybe technically speaking in an absolute manner. But in this context, it’s not. A hostile act would be if the pilot opened fire on a search party, or decided to try and wage a guerrilla war or something similar. Running and hiding is not a hostile act.
>>
>>586073856
I'd bet you're Brazilian.
>>
>>586073693
Resisting capture is the natural inclination of every soldier, and even civilians. Just because an enemy is "running away" does not give you the inherent right to shoot them, especially if the enemy is no longer a valid military target.
The entire logic here is "if you do X, then enemy does X" and both sides benefit from their soldiers not being shot in the back constantly.
>>

A pilot lands in enemy territory. You inform them via megaphone that they are in enemy territory and should surrender immediately. They turn around and run. You shoot them.
This is not a war crime, they were given a clear opportunity to surrender.
Also how ridiculous would it be if every random patrol guard needed to ask a person sneaking around in a hostile uniform whether they were an infiltrator or an ejected pilot sneaking back to allied lines before being allowed to shoot them?
>>586074469
But you are absolutely allowed to massacre a retreating army unless they've surrendered. There is no international or humanitarian law that forbids attacking retreating combatants.
>>
>>586073625
It works as intended but it still costed america a ton more money than it should have
>>
>>586075138
We're not talking about a 'retreating army', we're talking about a downed pilot who would be lucky to have a gun and a map. Of course they're going to try to evade capture. Expecting them to just report to the nearest enemy garrison is Germoid logic.
>>
>>586073625
>It's 2026 and people are still saying the F-35 is not a scam
Enjoy your plane that the Americans can shut off remotely whenever they feel like it.
>>
>>586073664
I really wish the ground units were as big as the planes themselves so you really get a sense of their scale. I'd love see the mecha howitzers actually moving around the map and that they're so big you can actually seem them firing in detail.

If there was evidence this existed wouldnt this be plastered everywhere to tank F35 sales
>>
>>586074469
Also, I want to be clear. Just because something is a war crime doesn’t mean it’s going to get prosecuted as such. Countries tend to get away with a lot of things that are illegal. And generally speaking, it’s left to countries to police themselves, so unless it’s unsanctioned and particularly abhorrent, or it’s a situation like post-WW2 where you’re tearing down the system and want to make examples, a small scale crime like shooting a pilot under parachute is going to get swept under the rug.
>>
>>586050619
Yes Pixy can will shoot down named planes for you.
>>
>>586075271
Spying is also a hostile act. So if that ejected pilot reports back to base and says anything about their position and whatever enemy troops they saw they're a completely valid target.
And I don't see how telling the pilot they're in enemy territory and MUST surrender at their earliest convenience does not count as being given a clear opportunity to surrender as required by Article 42 of International Humanitarian Law.
>>
>>586075624
Now you're being even more retarded. You're basically suggesting executing enemy recon units "for espionage".
The reason why spies are shot is because they frequently do not wear uniforms and have the potential to conduct assassinations. You again do not understand the laws of war AT ALL.
>>
>>586075138
>This is not a war crime
If they don’t try and shoot you first, it is.

> ask a person sneaking around in a hostile uniform
First off, if they’re a hostile infiltrator, they probably aren’t going to be wearing a hostile uniform. Kind of defeats the purpose of infiltrating.
Secondly, a pilot’s kit is going to be noticeably different than an infantryman’s.
>>
imagine going back in time and showing the wright brothers an f-35
>>
>>586076097
>"It cost HOW MUCH?"
>>
>>585969393
it's not the seat, it's the entire toilet, and you'd have to be a real ass to lose a 2bn dollar airplane to a leak because you wanted to save 20k.
(incidentally, the toilet on a commercial airliner runs to about the same amount. more if you include the entire system including piping and storage and so on.)
of course, then you have to answer for why you're building a $2bn bomber, but that mostly comes down to unit costs. same as way the F-2 costs like $120m even though F-16s are dirt cheap: a small production run of bespoke models is very expensive
>>
>>586075806
Execution is different from killing in combat.
You are allowed to snipe, shell, or otherwise maim and kill enemy recon units, there is no law against it. If you take them prisoner they are to be treated humanely as prisoners of war, obviously. But if they're engaged in active recon, not surrendering, and you shoot them to stop that recon, you've done nothing wrong.
>>586075869
You are being silly. If you hold an enemy pilot at gunpoint and demand their surrender and they turn around and run you are obviously allowed to shoot them. Same for any other troops.
>First off, if they’re a hostile infiltrator, they probably aren’t going to be wearing a hostile uniform
Not a spy, but like special forces or something. They wear a uniform just like any other soldier because that's what they are.
And you really think your average guard has the time to analyse an enemy soldier's kit before making the split second decision to shoot them?

Recon is a hostile act too. Not like the distinction matters if both are performed by a uniformed member of the armed forces, since both would be afforded the same status(not illegal, but a valid hostile target).

>keep saying stupid pedantic shit

They're not necessarily incapacitated. And if they're performing active recon they can be treated just like any other recon unit.

And yes, you are allowed to shoot a wounded radio operator who's calling for an airstrike on your position. Because that is an active hostile act.
