What I started doing with 0 3D modeling experience is using an animation library from a guy Quaternius and I build my low polly models around his skeleton. It gives me proportions to build off and then I can use his rigify rig he already made for the skeleton and any of this animations he made. This way I am mostly practicing just modeling, not adding bones and rigging them or uv unwrapping or making textures. Find something that works but don't expect your designs for free.

They need to be modeled, they need to have their armature created, they need it rigged, they need to be UV unwrapped, they need textures made, they need shaders figured out if they have a mix of materials, they need to be animated. In a real studio, usually all these jobs will be the work of 2-5 different people, to make one character model. That is not something easily automated, even with modern gen AI. Stick around these threads and you will see people trying and failing to gen good models with modern AI that can gen good code and pixel art. That should tell you how much you are underestimating. Figure out what you want. Figure out what you are willing to compromise on and realize you are not getting a high quality, textured, rigged and animated model for free. It's not happening man, it's a lot of work. I would recommend you start by doing some low poly tutorials, it will give you a better idea of what exactly might be within your capabilities with a little practice and what is not. Like I described for myself, I am only focusing on modeling and then editing the animations from the animation library to make ones I need. If you really want to use existing assets and want them to match find people like Quaternius or Kenney who have released a ton of assets, they will frankly look soul less most of the time but they will be consistent and then maybe you can get the look more how you want through textures or shaders. Like I said though, it would help you figure out what you can do if you just did some tutorials and got a better idea of what goes into a 3D model.

The reason I'm asking personally is because Three.js got it's own version of Nanites called Meshlets back in May, and some guy is building his own meshlets AND a raytracing renderer on top of it using compute shaders in the Meshlet chunks to get good looking raytracing in browser that works on even low quality devices and even on phones; no dedicated raytracing GPU cores needed. I personally don't care about seeing a billion triangles because why the fuck would I care?Is that going to run 10000 units at once on screen? No, because you're still at the same point you were before nanites; gpu isn't the problem, CPU is. When three.js provides the 'nanites for CPU' is when I'll be interested, not before.

'Billions of triangles' is a meme, low poly is king because it requires creativity to shine, photorealism is the death of creativity and the death of art.
