>>586384162>>586385292It's a techlocked feature so all good. But what you can do and may have missed is using temporary depots and shuttles. As in here's a meteor storm on the other side of the map, let the rovers deposit there and shuttles take it home in 1/10th of the time.

The automation is of course pretty fantastic once you get that as well.

>>586395026It's pretty clear that he simply didn't realize you can click on the resources which is unfortunate but fair. You can see the drones going for the free resources at the start so I can see how you would make that mistake.
>>586395241Just no idea how he missed the transport resource button.
Does anyone actually uses trains in Surviving Mars? Every time I try them I just keep going back to shuttles, because they do the same thing and you can just plop them down and you're done.
>>586398235They have lot of advantages, namely in accessing mines and mass transport. I find actually employing people quite difficult and sending them to the mines is good use of worker time lots of times.
>>586398235They don't do the same thing. Trains are better universal depots, come online almost at the start of the game, tunnels transfer power/water and you don't kill your game if you have a gorillion of them running. Shuttles also require tech, electronics and fuel, and afaik won't transfer people to remote workplaces like trains.
Second time I try playing GoT with fog of war.Using MACE and MACE resupply mods. Easy babygirl difficulty with very high economy and very high campaign lenght.I'm having all kinds of problems with the aufklarers, how to position them and reposition them, so that I not only scout and cover my attack points. But also to make sure I don't get flanked in the butt by reinforcements.Decided to give sniper a go, as I read that they are the best for early conquest game.
The sniper direct control was funny. Like a Sniper Elite but this time you are the nazi. I'm sure it won't be as easy as on this first battle.
50ish minutes for the very first capture mission. Thought that my sicherung's AT nades could handle the early matildas, but the matildas laughed at them, and I couldn't sneak on their backs, only on the sides. So was left with tracking both of the matildas and then lugging my 7.5cm support gun with HEAT to knock the crew out. Overall only 6 infantry losses and no squad wipes. Let's see once we the AI gets artillery/mortars.

>>586428443I know, I'm the anon that bullied you into not rushing farms in aom among other things. First I think the only mechanic 4 does better than 2 are the landmark system and the very meme but very cute ability of you can put units on walls. Has that bfme1 thing I love. Second, haven't really played it in ages and only got to conq1 when I did so keep that in mind. As in I'm sure lots of it is outdated.>relicsDepends who you play but in general? No, you don't take them out unless it's last ditch desperation play like your last landmark is going to die so yolo or to push someone off sacred site. Gold runs out, trade isn't always possible and unlike 2 if you're not running gold heavy armies most exchanges are not going in your favor. For example if you lack gold you need to depend on units that die extremely quickly to arty deathstars.>vikingsI haven't played with that. Macedon dynasty was alright.
>>586430457>into not rushing farms in aom among other thingsYeah well I changed my approach. Now I do like I do in AoE2: clear the map of all animals. Also been playing as the Egyptian and they have a T2 god that lower farm costs by 60%, so yeah. >Gold runs out, trade isn't always possibleYeah, the map generation can get weird. I also feel like the maps have less gold and stone than usual, but might be me. I often run out of ressources when playing, and I'm nowhere near real players. Trade also seem to give less money compared to Age of Mythology.I still love the fact there are random trading spot. In AoE2, I never make marketplaces when it's a 1vs1.>I haven't played with thatWell, they're very weird, and maybe OP, I can't tell, but they get peasants for free, since their peasants aren't trained on the map but immigrate from the Nord.Thankfully you can turn off peasant generation, but yeah. Also they don't get housing, they get "long houses", who allow them to train their spearmen right away, and can be upgraded with improved farms, beehives to get free gold, or downright tailor/forge for free upgrades.I have yet to try the Scots, but apparently their tech tree is divided between the economical-minded lowlands and the hostile and aggressive highlands. But highlanders do get the cutest cows ever.
>>586431748I would be surprised if they weren't OP. Of course, until the next round of dlc comes around, those become the new hot shit and the former new kids get nerfed. I remember when japs came out for example. You could more or less take a stack of landmark free-spawn ozutzu and attack move from one corner of the map to the other and wipe everything without doing anything. And that wasn't the strongest play they had either. That said I'm not sure about that villager mechanic. Normally you'd want to do a second TC and pump eco very hard and being limited in that way seems they're very much a bum rush agro civ. Which is alright but kinda predictable. As in, this guy went viking, I know he'll do a feudal timing push, I know he'll use food units because he didn't invest into vils, alright, I need to bog him down, go imp and outboom him. Assuming you haven't missed anything relevant like oh btw they get resources from kills and or building kills like mongols.
>>586377286The guy who claimed my territory put up a massive in-character post so I guess he's a serious RPer. Here's where I wish I put more energy into this city instead of it being the backup because I'm locked out of techs on the first server I tried.>>586379139There are scattered trees at least.
>>586434605>I would be surprised if they weren't OPI'm surprised, the devs are so insanely tight and careful with AoE2's DLCs to not break the game, I'm surprised they're not as strict with the fourth game.>oh btw they get resources from kills and or building kills like mongolsNot that I can remember. I mean, they do have knights, and slightly cheaper knights that refund some ressource when they die, but nothing like that. They do get some "Völurs", units that buff longhouses, but these can be assassinated, and they need to physically move to the longhouse to buff it. But as a Viking, you don't seem encouraged to go wide since gathering your longhouses at the same place seem to give you more bonuses.Depending from your build, of course.
>>586435970Also one thing to note is that my character's (randomly-generated) name is Alcott Thinpride so this diatribe is partially addressed to me.
>>586434605Oh wait, there's a T2 wonder that gives free food. Does that count?
>>586435970And I cut off the very end of the second part of the message.
Here, the Jutland Knights. They give 10 gold when they die, and there's a Wonder-only tech that raises that to 30 gold.Of course they cost 90 gold, so that sounds incredily shitty as a bonus.

>>586436123My french includes and is limited to some military jargon, ordering beer or coffee and cooking phrases so that does barely anything for me. Google does show they have tech in imp for improving pop to 210 and a landmark for another 10. That's nice, just not sure it'll help much if they don't do much damage early and don't survive to it. Interesting tho whether their on demand "sacred sites" work for templars since that could be crazy in FFAs or if you can bully them off it.>they're not as strict with the fourth gameI doubt too many, if any, original aoe2 devs worked on 4. And there's a rabid already established fanbase that can just go, OK, fuck you and your "new" game I'll keep playing what I played for the last 20 years so I guess there's that too.As for 4, I mean, it wasn't very balanced to start with. Your frogs were absurdly dominant at one point before the guild hall got nerfed and again just after joan came out. Bongs were the same between one of the few ways, at that time, to generate infinite gold and later with lancasters.Again, I only got playing 4 because someone from the group I play with lost a bet, and like a proper bastard gifted me that instead of what he actually owed. I had my fun for a time, just, "we have aoe2 at home" lol. And that game at least has by now a shitload of campaigns I can play and unwind without sweating on ladder or random lobbies. >>586521536Alright, consider this. M1. Could be a carbine, could be a nade, could be a rifle, could be a helm. Could be an armored car, carrier or an M-type ration pack. Maybe it's some kind of artillery piece mounted on vehicle or not. Now consider this: Tank, A13 (+C if it's regular army post 41 +additional *s if it's tailored to a specific theatre) Cruiser, Mk V(+additional *s on top of the numeral depending on submodel +additional * if it's specific production line), Covenanter Mk III + additional marks depending whether it's serving under. So you get stuff like A13 Mk III (Covenanter Mk I) which was newer but obsolete to older retrofitted (A15 Mk any from I-III) Crusader Mk III. And that Crusader mk III =/= Crusader mk III* =/= Crusader mk III**Germans are simple pz1-6 with 1 not being actually used, 2 not being used that much after 41, 3 being the baby tonk, 4 being the classic and 5 and 6 being panther and tiger. Then add a letter with later models being down the alphabet. Pz.3j is newer than Pz3b. There's also Pz.38 which is the czech tank they used a ton off early and stuff like (r) or (f) added to the name means captured and or converted from (russia) or (france). They did that a lot.Soviets are 99% either big party name guy or T for tank-model-year(STE or such if it's a specific factory/pattern). T-34/85E. T34, model 85 uparmored with mesh. T34-STZ, stalingrad pattern.
>>586525818The brit nomenclature is cursed good lord.Luckily they have lots of those "infantry tanks" or whatever, that are just MGs taped to armor or early to mid game.
>>586526618serving under commonwealth or pure UK forces*Canadian ones had to be fitted with extra insulation for example and that warranted a * because different pattern and or different local source of spare parts for retrofits. A * is half a mk, as in it's different but not different enough to require a full mk upgrade from say I to II.>infantry tanks>just mgNo. That's the godawful doctrine france and uk entering the war with. Infantry tanks that supported the, gasp, infantry and usually packed a ton of armor and cavalry/cruiser tanks that could actually move. Matilda was an infantry tank.Krauts ironically didn't have as many tanks so they concentrated them and ended up rewriting doctrine for everyone.
>>586527416>and ended up rewriting doctrine for everyone.How/why?I still find hard to think that the MG-centric squad formation of the Germans was supposed to be very successful even when there ere semi auto rifles.
3.0 Aurora bros!
>>586527971holy kek, is Aurora still getting updates? Might have to give it another try. Think I haven't played it since they switched to C#
>>586527887That's infantry talk and different topic but in short if you have a dedicated mg section anchoring a position the riflemen are way more flexible in what they can do. And krauts absolutely did try and index into (semi) auto replacements, it was just a bumpy road to get there and when they did it was too little too late.>tanksLook at it this way, 500 tanks concentrated across 5km = better armor presence than 5000 tanks spread across 100kms.
>>586527971It's out? What are the biggest changes?
>>586528828https://aurora4x.com/t/aurora-v3-0-0-patch-notes-november-1st-2026/49
>>586527887If you have to choose doctrine between a good rifle or a good MG (+amazing engineers) its really hard to bet on rifles.
the only surviving mars sponsors I haven't played yet are the burgers, chinks, jeets and the blue sun megacorpwhich one should I try?
>>586530403all 3 are ez mode so just roll for it.
>>586529540It's really not that simple. Do you even have a good rifle? How much will it cost to design one if you don't? How about ammo? Literally every nation struggled to design a self-reloading rifle that could fire a full power rifle cartridge and eventually ended up making an intermediate weaker round. But if you have multiple types of ammo that fucks with your logistics, a k98 and mg34 used the same carthage. A MP44 and mg42 didn't. Can your industry even afford to replace the old guns, provide a second source of ammo since and maintain the original ammo output until you phase them out since it's not like you're going to throw away the old guns in wartime. I mean both italy and france had their plans to replace the bolt-actions and didn't manage it during the peace between wws. And they were the victors of ww1.>>586530403Burgers are literal cheatmode. Chinks and jeets are meh but have their niche. Blue sun is also cheatmode but you have to work for it a little first. Have you tried the paradox sponsor? They come with some really good stuff.
>>586530916>Have you tried the paradox sponsor? No. I didn't even know they exist.
>>586528828Non oxy species sounds fun.Plus the actual customization of colour theme as clunky as it is.>>586527971Right as i wanted to start new run.
>>586531115You get jumper shuttles which are frankly amazing, a game dev workshop which is better tv workshop and your breakthru limit is raised by 3-4 iirc so you can get more of any of them.
>>586531359Well I'm not making a paradox account to unlock them
>>586531927cream.api not doing it for you?
I was looking at some shorts of upcoming strategy games and most of them looked AI-generated. Even many of the comments appeared to have been created by AI.Soon, most of the Anons you speak to here won't even be human.
>>586538391>Soon, most of the Anons you speak to here won't even be human.I mean, we have a huge, sentient, french spider with diabetes type 1.Also go play Gates of Hell.
>>586538391As opposed to most of them being subhuman?
>>586538391Yeah I'm a clanker, so what?
>round two:>Scotsmen versus Rus>completely fuck up me developpement, just reach T2 as AI reaches T3>fall behind relic-wise, which means AI gets +3 armor for its entire army>manage to barely scrap a win by going all-in and spamming battering rams on the field to destroy as many barracks as possible>still only got men-at-arm and archers against knights and arquebusiersgood lord i'm utter shit at games but damn they're funI won with my economy in shambles after too many knights raids. Turns out that digging a tunnel through the woods to make caravans go faster is a terrible idea when towers can't hold knights back and Scots don't get cannons.I fucked up my build order really badly, but also I think I'm used to play against an easier AI, so...

>>586547669>Find me a new RTS to right this wrong.Hard question. What are you into? Modern? WW2? Warhammer (the good one)? Fantasy? HIgh fantasy, low fantasy?
>>586546836Pretty sure he at least plays with related toggled on to have it shown above. Past that, I genuinely do not care.
>>586549256Actually, no, this was turned off. It still shows in the postgame graph for some reason.

>>586551738The Fertile Crescent, maybe? I tried it, it's mostly city building + survival foreign army.It sadly filtered me pretty quickly.>>586550783THAT'S A GRUDGE!
Imam Ahmed.That's a weird name.
I want to eat spiderfag up>>586559678imam is a title and ahmed is a normal name

Where should the Anno series go next?
Okay that's boring. I set up two customs commanders in an AIvsAI fight, and fuck me sideway, I'm falling asleep here. Ranni and Godrick just stare at each others and send assassins without ever committing to an actual attack.
oh hey they're finally attacking

>>586606884Maybe Dominions or Age of Wonders, but I don't play mp so I dunno.>>586615636Nah, too busy making tanks and ak47s for the third world.
>>586606393It's actually a new feature added in the original launch 1.0 winter assault
>>586591246All I remember about Commissars is that they can shoot their own guys to make everyone else shoot faster.
>>586629476Welp, despite playing that game also it always eluded me.Probably because I always built death blobs, which would either melt everything out of their path or melt to the enemies, so I never paid attention to unit healing and such.
>>586591246>Huh. Is that new to Definitive Edition? It has always been the case. The officers add health and the commissar buffs healing rate(and I think health too), and morale, executions notwithstanding.. There's no special medicae upgrade. And I kinda like it like this, as even with officer+commissar they are wet paper past T1. If it wasn't for the nade cheese, they would be outdated fast.
>>586632386>and I think health tooThat's priests.
>>586633639Well, it's not like they were meant to survive in first place.
>>586635089Honestly that's a skill issue.
>>586636045I know, that's why I don't bother with priests.I mean, look at how I play GoT. In babygirl difficulty with fog of war on and having all kind of problems because SURPRISE MORTAR/FIELDGUN/VICKERS UP YOUR ASS.
>>586636495No I mean specifically in dow1. The guard is tanky as all fuck if you do it right. If you skip the gl for a pair of early hellhounds into plasma guns for your infantry with a reactive sentinel or few for harass they're a nightmare to deal with. You can also forward deploy HWS and or rotate damage infantry with screening chimeras. As in open with guard and when they take a beating put them into chimeras that carried in ogryns and HWSs for the main push.
>>586637263>If you skip the glAnd how do you deal wit hero units? Also I think I have used ogryns less times than I have been buttfucked.
>>586637669Which one? Most die or beak under concentrated fire regardless. You're not looking at the bigger picture. GLs do a lot of disruption but their damage sucks against everything that's not infantry. Regular lasfire is good against infantry. Bolters and hellhounds mulch infantry. Do you really need more anti-infantry tools especially since basically everyone phases out infantry T1-2+? In the same vein having sentinels for anti light vehicle and hellhounds for anti-inf and morale means they can't go lolspamglsorbolters of their own and delete your army since you now got a mix of different armor types.IG is a combined arms faction, treat is as such.
