MvC3's 4 Buttons >>> MvC2/MvC:I's 4 buttons
What are we playing in the weekend lads
>>1572708I've got Infinite & Beyond installed, so I'd love to put up a lobby for it, but otherwise I could play a lot of things. Got any preferences?
>>1572654Based and true. Hyper games don't need the Punch/Kick split.>>1573095Beyond has made me realize just how many solid ideas were buried under the dogshit presentation and system mechanics that the mod fixed. The DLC characters are ALL fun as fuck, especially Sigma & Venom. Even Widow who I loathed as a pick is one of the most versatile and fun mixup characters I've seen in a long while.
moar KoF '98
>>1573179Yeah, I've always heard Infinite players go on about how it was a fun game if you got past the graphics and disappointment with the roster, but I just never got around to it because it's a pretty big install for what'll just be a discord fighter that's inherently harder to draw people into.Trying it now, I've been enjoying it a lot. Granted, some of these characters I didn't play in MvC3, and I wouldn't know what balance changes they made, but I'll just say that in 5min of playing Nemesis, I was immediately and naturally drawn to wanting to find corner rocket loops and tentacle/rocket active tag confirms all on my own in training mode. It's been a while since I've played something that makes me immediately want to go looking for sauce.
>>1573388Nemesis is my main in 3 so he's actually kind of weird to go back to in Infinite (same with Hulk but I actually don't like playing Hulk pre-MvC3 either, just that one iteration) but he is really sick and I do mess around with him. I run Sigma/Venom mostly but I've done some Sigma/Nemesis and labbed out a bit of other characters. Widow I've surmised is cool as fuck but way beyond my execution level. Really my biggest issue with the roster is how prevalent Ultron & Gamora are when they're both really fucking boring mechanically (Gamora much more so) and Gamora also just generally being a shit choice even among Cosmic Marvel. I also remember them basically shipping her with Hiryu in the story mode and that was also cringe.

>>1576433https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lyx1mhqNQYEWorst thing about the DOA series is that it is now notoriously known for being the "gooners game" while it offers pretty good mechanics overall for casuals and competitive players alike
>>1576437DOA gets such a bad rep. It is really fucking depressing. I remember playing the shit out of a demo for 2 on my dreamcast as a little kid a fuck ton. Played the shit outta Ein if I remember right

>>1576437>>1576451In all fairness, it was absolutely DOA that chose that rep. I remember DOA3 being absolutely sick and DOA5 still finding some time in an era where the 3D Fightan of choice for a bunch of dudes around the Xbox was Soulcalibur instead, but Tecmo sure didn't like to push the actual fightans like they did Xtreme

>>1585486Well played. I haven't played an Arizona in awhile. My execution still has some 'getting back into form' to do, but that was probably the hardest I've played since booting this game back up. Well when it isn't some dude stomping my shit so hard I can't figure out what to do lol
>>1585496If it helps, I caught you jumping back as retreat a lot, gave me tons of possibilities to catch you with the rope. Also god damn I cannot react to the slowest overhead in the world lmao, I think I blocked it once in the entire set.
>>1585529Her 214C? You blocked it a decent amount. I kept seeing the elbows coming, but eating them anyway. Yeah I was jump backing a lot, but that wasn't always my intention. Fucking up my inputs man. I meant to training mode a little to try to get TK icicles down again. I can't seem to do them consistently on the fly. There were a few times I would 5C, hit you, and then nothing. Wasn't supposed to be nothing, but nothing came out. Probably just missing the cancel window. Also I need to practice half circle icicles to not accidently get eruptions. Also practice dp timings for eruptions. Something with the buffer is different. Basically. I'm ass cheekems
>>1585486>>1585496But what if ~I~ wanted to play and ~I~ happened to be busy a couple hours longer than ~I~ expected and ended up being unavailable to play without previously mentioning it beforehand in the thread? Did you consider that at all?

>>1585774I could play some more tomorrow, give me a (You) and I'll probably be able to tell ya if I'm available or not and when I'll have some time to play.
Well, the laptop's moved downstairs for ethernet since my friend wanted to play MotW, so more games this weekend are in order. I wouldn't mind more KoF '98, either Fightcade or UMFE. I'm only really playing with people I arrange games with, so I'm not very well practiced, yet.
>>1585343But it do
>>1585825I can play Melty or UNI today. Skullgirls is fine too if you don't mind fighting someone who hasn't touched it in years.

>>1597600Man, Slayer's such a funny little idiot>create a character that barely has anything without counter hits>on top of this, barely has any mix, especially now that rollback means 20F overheads certainly aint shit>yet somehow will get those counter hits every single time
>>1597655Slayer has hella mix, it's just relatively low reward unless they fuck up or you have resources to burnP-Dandy whiff Under Pressure on their wakeup lets you meaty either 2K or It's Late for a true unreactable high/low, or you can dash through them and c.S for a very hard to see left/right, or you can BDC Bite for an invincible command grab that beats mashing. He's one of the few characters that can do real 4-way mix instead of the usual double 2-way like a left right that if you block then becomes a high/low like what usually gets called 4-way, he can represent 4 different options that require 4 different responses. The downside is that off of it on normal hit without meter he gets like, c.S>f.S>c.S>2D for ~60 damage and for all the options he has, their defensive options like DPs and backdash and blitz and throw still interact with a lot of them so he still has to do a lot of prediction unlike the setplay characters that just put something on top of you and run mix. The upside is that when he does predict, or you gamble and lose, you fucking explode. You can throw the meaty 2K but if you try it and he does IL you take 200 damage instead 60. And even if you don't do anything risky, he's building meter and after two or three low reward little knockdowns now he can RRC for a big combo instead of a little one and that makes the mix terrifying on its own.But yeah he's still really good at baiting out counterhits too.
>>1597694That's a lotta wordsJust gonna keep on 6P-in'
>>1597696tl;dr: do this shit to make them not want to block and then you get more counterhits

You'll probably do fine.4 limb combat, one button for each arm, one button for each leg. R1/R2 are high low blocks, L1 is special attacks (L1+Punches or kicks + directions) and R2 makes punches hit body and kicks hit legs.Simple enough, I can pull up controls when you need them.I just want people to play this with that aren't 13 years old. I can teach you the basics, it's fun, I promise.
>>1632506What is this some kind of FIGHTING game?
Is Street Fighter 6 actually good? I like SFV and have been playing that for a while, but I feel I wanna play 6 more. I think the artstyle and UI design of 6 is disgusting, but the game looks more interesting. I'm really not a fan of the V trigger shit in SFV, to be honest. SF6 also has way more players. Is 6 actually worth playing? Is it a good game, or do people only like it because they have shit taste?
>>1636328It's a good game for sure, it's from the team that worked on the last couple seasons of SFV to make it a very solid game by the end rather than the trainwreck it was for its first 2-3 years. The Drive system has a lot of nuance to it even with Drive Rush clearly being the most overtuned of the bunch, buttons don't feel as stubby as V, Critical Art is a much less extreme comeback mechanic than the last two SFs had, and Punish Counter is a really smart workaround for the issues counter hits have had in terms of design for the SF team in the past. If you like late-SFV you'll like SF6 unless the reason you like V is the massive roster with tons of costumes since 6's content pipeline is oddly dry if you don't engage with the side modes (though World Tour is a fun little distraction). That said I'm also someone that doesn't mind 6's look that much; some clashing between proportions and textures with the animations aside I like most of the models, and while the UI isn't amazing I like it more than V's which seemed way too much like squeaky-clean eSports bait.

cotw is fun. Hope it has a good launch.
God, COTW fucks so hard. I had my doubts because I played Real Bout 1 and found it kinda awkward for me to just jump into, so I wasn't sure if other Fatal Fury games were for me (and I had yet to wrangle my buddy to play Mark of the Wolves), but COTW is just so damn satisfying to play. Granted, the greater mechanics are lost on me at this point, as I don't really fuck with the REV mechanics beyond "SPG = Can Do REV Blow" and "REV Blow = Hyper Armor Move" and don't really touch the REV Meter. It's just fun playing wtih the fundamentals. Also, absolutely LOVE that the supers are relatively tame, at least for 2025 standards. Power Geyser being just the super flash, Buster Wolf just being the closeup, and I've yet to see anyone use the big cinematic Hidden Gears.

I think GGST's version of Faust is his most fun iteration. Even when he was dumpster fire trash back at launch, the switch to focus more on being a Strike/Throw character made him feel absolutely crazy to play. Paired with the lack of item lockout, he's gone from a guy that's putting on a show to this encroaching tsunami wave with a gangly demon swimming inside of it.
>>1696593>my wacky guy about unique zoning with items and pokes got turned into generic strike/throw dispenser and thats a good thing<Heavy's Voice> No!

>>1698867Probably just gonna play a bit of UNI and press buttons on SC6. Learning SC is fun, too bad for the somewhat dead online.

>90% of Venom is a decently straightforward port to Strive>he's still Strive'd Venom, but not bad all things considered>>except j.K is now GGACR's j.D>j.D is now just straight up Mad StruggleThis is so fucking weird
>>1699054Oh wait, j.D "Mad Struggle" can cancel into Air Carcass to instantly spawn a ball without an animation. That's sick. God if only they had Teleport as well.
>>1697315Well, you can still do a lot of that. f.S and 5H are marginally slower (and with f.S, marginally shorter), but are also sizeably disjointed. 2D isn't disjointed anymore but is way more safe on block, which easily covers changes made to 2H to make that more useful at long range but more locked into being long-range. I mean sure, the problem is more that Strive as a game means that Faust isn't as easily able to turn those pokes into big confirms without Counter Hit or Meter, but to say that as if it definitively discredits the entire playstyle does too much to diminish just how crazy item-based zoning with meter is now that there's a lack of item lock.

>>1699202>muh disjoints>implying XX Faust was a character who turned pokes into big confirmsI don't mind you being a 17yo Strive player, but please don't talk about things you don't understand. If you spent five minute in training mode in +R or Xrd trying to convert off of f.S or 2H at max range you'd see how fucking stupid what you're saying it.Faust's identity in the old games was an agile zoner with godlike pokes who continually filled the screen with small neutral wins via item throw. His ability to combo off of long range hits has always been limited, just like most other GG characters. What made him fun and distinct was:- using FD to air brake by cancelling the startup of j.2K for stalling or changing his jump air, notably with j.H as an air-to-air (because of the tension penalty for using FD, this meant he would practically never gain meter from the button he pressed after doing the FDC)- FDC j.K being a semi-reactable to unreactable overhead depending on your execution (which led to a plus-on-block divekick even if it didn't combo)- adapting to the situations caused by items to advance and take space, or improvise combos (bombs, mini-Fausts, mini-Robo-Ky in +R)- being forced to change where/how he looks to poke with a long lockout item on the screen; throwing food means that f.S/2H > item throw is no longer a free neutral victory (although in +R he has reverse gatlings from both those pokes, weakening that part of his identity)Strive Faust is a walking tiktok reel who vomits out items and runs the same strike/throw/shimmy as everyone else because that's all he can do: FD cancels are gone, his movement sucks just like everyone else, and his suite of items has been cut down to a mere handful. His items are all interactable as well, because ArcSys was terrified that a new player would be too stupid to appreciate the nuances that people had been appreciating in GG for 20 years.
>>1712591>If you spent five minute in training mode in +R or Xrd trying to convert off of f.S or 2H at max range you'd see how fucking stupid what you're saying it.*five minutes*saying isI typed this sentence properly, goddammit

Is TFH good introduction to the genre for a newcomer?
>>1713344A very good one at that. The story mode and tutorials are the perfect beginner starting points to understand most fighting game terms and inputs. >>1713344It is a fine one honestly. It's a shame there's been nothing to fill its gap in the last 8 years. There's just nothing that quite plays the same.I also tried getting into MotW now that CotW is out, but I just don't really jive with feint canceling. The lack of a resource cost (as far as I'm aware) to using it makes the addition feel arbitrary, and as a new player, the lack of a distinct effect makes it hard to tell whether I've failed to do it right or if my string didn't continue just because I'm fucking up my inputs in some other manner.

What went wrong? Was it always going the be a niche game or is there something else that made people not want to stick around after the beta?
>>1732017I don't know. I liked the beta but not enough to get it full price. Maybe the player count will pick up after some sales.
>>1732017who knowscan't figure it out
>>1732017Mostly the former. It's pretty good as a new Fatal Fury, but Fatal Fury isn't a household name, and despite being familiar, the way it actually plays with feints and brakes is just a shade outside of the standard formula people expected from fightans. I think people just had inflated expectations because talking head e-celebs have been talking up the game, and while it's true that this is something fighting game fans would love and have been waiting for, it's not like the majority of the e-celebs' audience is actually made up of those fighting game fans.
>>1732974like as a game package for a fighting game it's decent if anythingit's just no star power as you're implying with the household name talkthere are ways to build up that star power but snk can't seem to get there
Damn I wish I had the fingers/timing for Deadpool Teleporter Loops in MvC3. Feels like you really gotta slam out that 214X21X214X input. I've seen some people make it kinda easier by adding an H after the teleport but I always seem to drop that.
>>1732017t doesn't have the flashy, superficial mechanical bloat and zone-skipping of modern fighting games, but it really is lacking in presentation and star power. graphically, it's very crisp, but in a way that makes it look like a remaster of a wii game; there's a lack of textures and the shading looks basic, regardless of how much processing power it actually uses. it looks worse than both contemporary titles and the very game before it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=t__214aVq6Qthe best thing to say about it is "it doesn't have the bullshit of other games", but that only matters to curmudgeonly old farts like me.
>>1742181>none of the superficial mechanical bloat and zone-skipping of modern fighting gameslol, lmao perhaps, a rofl even Although, I guess in all fairness, you're technically right, as instead: COTW has the mechanical bloat and zone-skipping that has always made Fatal Fury terrible, and paved the way for what would become modern bloat and zone skipping.
Someone steal a copy of cotw and then take time machine and travel to 2017 so it would kill sf5 and capcom with it

>>1742894It's a stretch, but I think Granblue might be the closest match. Is it actually similar to TFH? Not really, but I think it's the closest you can get when trying to spiritually align something with TFH and is remotely alive.

first time visiting this board, is there a reason for a fighting game general here when there's already a couple in >>>/vg/ ?
>>1754645The reason is that it's not a general
>>1754645There used to be a pinned board post stating the board's purpose, and it's gone now for some reason. Anyways, the board is supposed to be for multiplayer games and to possibly play with other anons. But it's rare to get games in here.
>>1755423>but it's rare to get games in hereIt's fascinating in its own way. The past 5 years of /vm/, all the threads, the game nights from both mods and anons, have painted a strange picture regarding how people go about participating in shit. Frankly, it's disturbing. But it's still great for long form, slow threads where you mostly only chime in when you have something you wanna talk about (although /vg/ expats have ruined that a bit), and ultimately there's no real cost to trying to toss out a line to see who bites for a bit of vidya.

Beowulf from Skullgirls is one of the greatest fighting game characters of all time, and I absolutely hate that he's stuck in the game he's in.
>>1742580you guys have to stop thinking of groups of people as an individual entitythe "fgc" isnt a friend group, we just play fighting games. there are cliques within the fgc like any other community of people. there are people like you in the fgc and there are people different from you in the fgc. you just have to find your people, the community exists to allow you to find those people more easily. have you tried playing with anyone from here?
>>1765584This but Big Band (Beowulf is a close 2nd)
>>1766891Yeah, Big Band is also really good. I like him as a pretty fresh take on the Big Guy archetype, having a decent amount of movement and closeup game than one would expect, while still taking familiar cues from characters like Potemkin. Especially since he still has big guy moves, unlike a character like Rufus or Bob who are physically big but play more like other characters.

Some of these actually have some interesting things about them, like take the Invincible one for example: sure, even if it wasn't cheap as hell looking, it's still incredibly soulless due to the Invincible IP not being a good fit for this kind of game--and you can see it already with the movesets that were on display--but from a purely Functions vs Functions POV, it's got some intriguing fusions with Killer Instinct mechanics and some IPS features that'll be fun to rip into and clown on casuals over (since it appears to be what they've been asking for but you know they still won't get into the game)

>>1831173Never really liked Ingrid. Feels like a Mary Sue OC character down to the fact she's simultaneously a goddess and a cutesy anime schoolgirl. Her redesign is kickass though and redeems her a bit, leaning into the goddess shit more. Personally I'm fucking amped about Alex.C. Viper and especially Sagat are fucking rad, too. Very excited to play Sagat a bit.
>>1831288"Here's the characters you get to play in 14 months" weird ass marketing move
>>1832851Man when you replied to me with this I thought I must've mentioned how the fucking wait for Alex is the worst part of him being in, because man have I been like "god what the fuck why does it have to take so long?" elsewhere. Funny someone else feels the same way. I'm coping by just letting myself get hyped for Sagat; truth be told he's fucking cool even if he's a character I've always sort of overlooked and appreciated from a distance in every other SF.I've been part of an "ALEXNATION" SF6 club since Day 1 because I've wanted this motherfucker back in so excuse my fixation.
>>1831173Ingrid!What a fever dream pick. I hope she's good since I'm now obligated to main her after asking for her for so long.

Hellocan i play fighting games here
>>1845677Thread has slowed down but some people have played together previously.
>>1845677Yeah. I'm not on a very good setup right now, but I could probably play some games with enough of a heads up
>>1846353where they go>>1847061what region and what you play bro
>>1847121>where they goprobably /v/, /vg/ or d*scordit's probably to be expected because while other games get their own dedicated threads, all fighting games except for the 2hu games are lumped together in one single thread, so even if other anons play fighting games it's not super likely that they'll play the same ones as you. it's nice to have a more comfy thread though, would be cool if more people hosted
>>1847121>RegionUS-E>What do you playI flit between what other people wanna play or are down for, for the most part. If I had any guidelines, I just don't really play KoF and the games I prefer to install are those that are sub-20GB and have rollback. Other than that, I'm open to most things, connection-willing.
>>1847620what games
>>1847865karnovs revenge
>>1847620have you heard about our lord and savour bbcf or melty
>>1847865Well as for what I've got installed right now>UMvC3>DBFZ>GGST>GGXRD>GGACR>TFH>Ninza>MBAACC-CE>Rivals of Aether>Rushdown Revolt>Melee via Slippi>Ultra Fight Da Kyanta 2Along with various Fightcade games, but those aint nothing but a thing to nab--although I typically stay away from anything NAOMII can also install Arcana Hearts LMSSX, Divekick, Koihime Enbu RyoRaiRa (not V3), BBCF, and Skullgirls with enough notice, although I stick to rollback ones since my connection isn't great right now despite being wired.>>1848145Personally, I've found BBCF to be a bit gay, but I'd still play it.
>>1848516Well blazblue is the fujo/loli franchise so your not wrong
I sometimes just randomly think about how Yoshinori Ono just silently does management for FGO instead of Fighting Games. Its so weird, as someone who played SFV and FGO
>>1850713I'm glad he's got a good role for himself now. He's clearly a passionate guy, but he was really bad at his job as the head fighting game guy at Capcom (which he was kind of thrust into after being a sound engineer).
Dead genreTranny genre
I'm a complete noob in fighting games, I can't even play Guitar Hero on Hard so I know combos are gonna be a pain in the ass to learn. What modern game can I play to get introduced to fightans?
>>1855633sf6 or tekken 8 (or strive if youre trans)combos are less important than you think
>>1855650Should I play on modern or classic controls?
>>1856153Modern can teach you the raw basics as training wheels if you're super super new, but I'd pick up Classic since it's better long-term and will teach you to play the entire genre. Hell, since you're looking to get introduced to fighters as a genre absolutely play Classic since most fighters don't even have a Modern controls equivalent. I think Modern can get you started on the wrong foot; I'd much more recommend playing it once you're settled in with Classic and think Modern would give you a specific advantage on a certain character.A nice, well-rounded shoto like Ryu can be a great starting point. Characters like Marisa and Honda are also very simple and easy to understand. I'm a Honda main myself and can vouch for his Sumo Headbutt being a very effective punish tool that can teach a new player to capitalize on the opponents mistakes and learn to spot openings when they're available. Ultimately you should play who you find fun though, since that'll be what gets you passionate about learning and improving. And as the other Anon said, yes, combos aren't very important at all; learn some basic tiny combos you can always rely on and then focus way more on fundamentals instead.Have a blast, Anon, and good luck! SF6 can be criticized a good bunch by people but ultimately it's one of my absolute favorites; I adore the game.
>>1856153whatever u likeimo classic feels better because you have fine control over your entire moveset and motions are fun, modern being "easier to learn" is in some ways a spook. anti-airing is a massive hurdle for new and even some intermediate/even experienced players, so being able to do that in one button will make that a lot easier. in other ways button layouts are weirder and more unintuitive and you'll have to learn motions for certain things anyway. tldr>do you want to deal with difficult reaction/execution checks less? try modern>do you want to have full control of your character and learn how to play older fighting games at the same time? play classic
>>1857203>it's better long-term and will teach you to play the entire genrein some ways yes but also like every upcoming tag fighter that got announced has at minimum the option for one button specials and many of them like invincible VS and 2XKO don't have motion inputs
>>1857245Ah yeah, if you're just wanting to play new ones, but even then it's not guaranteed every modern one will have that. I mean, maybe, I guess I wouldn't know. Still though, if Anon wanted to go back and play like Third Strike or some shit later he'd be better prepped having played Classic rather than Modern controls.
>>1855633fuck modern shit games they are all fake and will just teach you how to play casino games basically
>>1863006I don't like that Bison canonically came back. They could have waited at least a little bit before he resurrected
>>1786123Some weird contrarians still hype it up but yeah. What an awful time for SF.
>>1868794SFV will get credit because it has Dan, therefore making it one of the best SF games by default.
Sick, Fantasy Strike no longer requires the full ownership to play friend matchesNow if only this didn't take a full 6 years, long after the interest for an uber-casual intro fighting game has waned awayStill begs the question of what the best F2P model is for fighting games. Between FS, Rushdown Revolt, Killer Instinct, Multiversus, and Granblue, it seems like the full gamut has been run for free-to-paid examples.
>>1871518Bro you can get grubble for free why would you play fantasy strike ever
I hope that one day this becomes a good hub for all fighting game players of 4chan. /vg/ is too fast and full of schizos
What's the """best""" version of street fighter I can play today? Been playing a little bit of 3rd strike and I noticed that 4 and 5 are relatively cheap on steam.Thoughts?
>>1888494Whichever is your favorite. All fgs are ass. It gets a lot better once you accept that.
>>1888494Third Strike is probably your best option for now. If you're curious about more, I'd consider looking into SF2X and Alpha 2 on Fightcade as well. USF4 is pretty good and has a huge roster, but it's also pretty dead and its netcode can make it harder to find people. SFV is kinda okay if you've got all the characters, but your main obstacle there is that nobody wants to keep a 45GB dead fightan installed.SF6 is actually kinda worth it if you're willing to burn the money and get in now, but I assume that's not the case.
>>1572398The only actual fighting game i have ever played is ASBR. I stopped playing because my friends dont try to do anything other than the easy beat, and i dont pay for online. Maybe SSB but it feels more like a party game that involves fighting. Any recommendations? Is ASBR considered good by actual fighting game standards? Do people still even play it?
>>1892319>any recommendationsOptions are limited for good intro fighting games right now, unless you're willing to fork over some dosh. If not, I'd say Granblue is pretty decent if you don't mind that you're stuck on a character rotation with the free version. Otherwise, it might be worthwhile signing up/waiting for 2XKO, if you're wiling to stomach the anti-cheat and such. Beyond that, the most lively free fightans are those hosted on Fightcade, where matches can vary wildly from super casual to ultra busted, so keep that in mind.>is ASBR considered good? Do people still even play itIt's fun enough, that's what it is. It's by no means serious, but it's certainly enjoyable. There are a decent number of people playing online, but I don't really play it much, so I dunno if they're the kind of people that have learned to optimize the craziness to the point of no-fun
>>1888494Honestly what >>1888977 said. SF4 and SF5 are great fun but man you just can't fucking go wrong with Third Strike if you're liking it. Can confirm SF6 is a joy to play though. SF5 is piss cheap on Kinguin still I think; it's like 10 bucks for a champion edition key if that means anything to you. USF4 is less than 2 bucks too there if you so want, but again, finding people to play with might be tricky.
Trying out A Few Quick Matches since it came out today. I wouldn't recommend it too much, since the platform fighter genre is pretty fleshed out these days and you can find meatier options with more characters for free, but I like how some indie devs are trying to tackle that space of just jumping on to play something simple for a bit.Like I was hoping something like Counterpick Labs would fill the same space, but that game overcomplicated things and is super duper dead.
>>1572398Never played fighting games, which ones do I pick? Are the capcom collections worth grabbing?
>>1903306>Are the capcom collections worth grabbingNot particularly. They're fine releases, but the player counts are abysmal. If you have money, pick whatever's new and popular that looks cool and get it on sale. That's genuinely the best place to start. If you want to start playing fighting games for free, consider Fightcade, but know that a lot of the playerbase is gonna be South Americans and Middle Easterners that are playing to win.
>>1903339What about the SF 4 and 5, not willing to drop a lot of money on 6 if I don't like it
>>1904678USF4 is a bit iffy to get going. In my experience, the public queue is usually empty and lobbies are pretty hit and miss. It's also kinda hard to as easily play with anyone, as while the netcode is serviceable, it's the old form of online where your inputs are increasingly delayed based on latency to keep you synced. The gameplay itself is solid, even if Ultras are a kinda hrm feature, so it could be fun if you have fighting game friends.SF5 is a little better off when playing with randos, even though there's actually fewer people playing it online, but a lot of the people playing it are those that are diehard stuck to the game, and could end up really frustrating to play against as a first-time experience. It's also a pretty big install at 45GB. Honestly, if that isn't an issue, I'd probably lean more towards recommending Tekken 7 over SF5 as keys for that are similarly really cheap.Otherwise, the best bet is still to stick to the newest game. SF6 does have a demo and is $30 right now, but if that's too much then It'll probably start getting $20 sales after the current season ends.
Are Skullgirls and Guilty Gear alive?
>>1905153Strive is still lively. GGACR doesn't have many players but it's easy to find a match. Xrd has kinda dropped off, but you can usually find at least a lobby. Who cares about Skullgirls?
This any good?
I want to play grapplers in 02um. Currently running>Vice>O. Yashiro>ClarkWhich other grapplers are good for going full retard?
>>1910283What do you mean full retard?
>>1910287I guess i mean ones that play closer to clark. Im pretty shit at Kof atm, terrible at actually hitconfirming into combos. So I just want rushdown grapplers who can throw out raw specials, or can rely on SUPER basic bnb's until I get better.
>>1909112I haven't tried one of the small ones, the size seems kinda annoying to me, but the full size ones are good for the price. Not a premium product or anything obviously but the open source firmware it uses is excellent, it uses keyboard switches which are pretty much all better than traditional arcade buttons, and the layout is either standard or standard plus a bunch of extra buttons so there's nothing wrong there. They're a bit flimsy and the usb-c port is finnicky on some of them but you can fix it with a little right angle adapter cable if it disconnects when moving, and you need an adapter or a first party pad to plug in to use it on console, but they work fine.

>>1921115I'll bear it in mind if AACC goes on sale. Do you play anything else? I've been wanting to do a CotW lobby, I like that game. But I've hated playing randos in fighting game online modes for a while now. Sometimes I think, what is the POINT, y'know? And without it being a tournament with some prize at the top, the main incentive is to network to find people you can play with on a hopefully more regular basis. It sucks that fighting games in themselves offer very little to enable this outside of some basic bitch profile view and friend list features. Other games I like and would like to play more: KoF '98 UMFE Street Fighter Alpha 2 and 3And I could probably pick up and play SF2CE or ST pretty much whenever, though it might be a matter of shaking off some rust.
>>1921135>I'll bear it in mind if AACC goes on sale. Not him, but no one buys and plays default AACC. They use the community edition that's free to download and adds rollback
>>1921135play.meltyblood.club/
>>1921405Thanks dude, just installed. Literally NEVER played Melty before, though. It has some kind of homing dash as a major mechanic, right? I'm actually kinda familiar with something like that from Super Dragonball Z. Are they interruptible?
>>1923551nah, you're thinking of Arcana Heart probably, no rollback for that one sadly but it's a cool gameMelty has a traditional airdash and double jump, and C and H moons have an air dodge that is kinda a shitty third jump https://wiki.gbl.gg/w/Melty_Blood/MBAACCThe most unique thing about the air movement is that there aren't really direct anti airs, with a couple exceptions, you don't want to try challenging air attacks with a hitbox because it usually won't work out in your favor, but if you can avoid it you can punish the landing, or intercept the startup with an air to air because air counterhits have full untech time until they hit the ground. That's why people say the game has "air footsies" sometimes, there's a common interaction where someone will jump aggressively, the other person will jump up to meet them, the first guy is afraid to push a button in case he gets counterhit and just doublejumps to back off, then the second guy double jumps to avoid getting stuck underneath him and it feels kinda like jockeying for space and looking for whiff punishes in a grounded fighter, kinda.
>>1923551That would be Arcana Heart
>>1923668>>1923801You're right, got them mixed up. Damn that is one juicy CH pop-up, reminds me of MotW. I downloaded it and boot it up on a whim the other night, thought Kouma looked cool so I went into training mode with him. JC-able rekkas seem nuts and I like his command grab.
