honestly by now, yes. not because i know what exact move you will use, but rather because all i need to know is you are going to press something in the first place. like for example today i could tell you didn't want to block anything on the ground, and there were no tech rolls away from the corner either so on every wakeup i knew i could use a 2A (which lasts forever) to catch literally anything you tried to do, besides invincible reversals
same with airtechs, i know most of the time you will try to airtech ASAP. i don't even know whether you'll block or attack, but all i need to know is that you will airtech because now i can just throw out a j5A and it will start an air blockstring or a combo, no matter what you do

you aren't even doing badly when it comes to landing the first hit, but the problem is that once i hit you instead it quickly snowballs into an entire round

yes, this is a huge problem for me, I don't really know what to do
for the other stuff, I try anything and everything I can besides blocking because I don't want to turn the game into a 15 min one side match of me just blocking and losing guards for nothing, and BE'ing or flying or whatever will not do anything so I rather mash because it's the only thing that has saved me before

yeah but not blocking anything at all is essentially the same as fast-forwarding through pressure just to get straight into the part where you get punished for defending poorly. mashing or jumping out of pressure has its uses but if i know it is going to happen every single time then i know there is no drawback at all if i just throw out a long lingering move since it will hit you no matter what

plus, knowing how to defend is useful to play around your opponents defense as well. this is probably the most basic example imaginable, but for example if you block Reimu 2A, you already know the most natural follow up is 6A which hits high. and not only that, but most follow ups after 6A are bullets exclusively. so if you BE my 6A you will graze out of all of that. and now when you see a 2A you can use it as a cue to get ready to block high and input 2DD immediately

obviously i have ways to play around that as well, it's not like BE out of 6A is unbeatable, but most of the choices you have to take follow the same logic. you just have to get used to that decision making first and then it's just a matter of adapting it to different moves/escape routes

i disagree with the other guy, i think the cute artstyle is very appealing, i also like the one screenshot of yukari reaching forward with a barrier for a little hand slap, meaning a novel moveset different from soku

i have to say though, at least from the given descriptions, the game looks VERY soku inspired to the point that i wouldnt be surprised if the dev is someone from hisouten or some other soku community

it LOOKS and SOUNDS really nice and the dev seems to have a good understanding of the soku experience, but im a bit skeptic of the "Planned Release Date: 2025" and lack of many screenshots/recordings of gameplay and characters
making a soku 2.0 is really ambitious and unless the dev has a big team and put in a lot of time and also spent some time balancing things, im doubting it'll either actually come out this year, come out with a lot of characters and card variety, or come out with all those things but also balanced

im rooting for it though, i want it to be good

probably the latter will get sacrificed, it's not rare for small fighting games to be an utter mess balance-wise at launch and then use player feedback to actually balance the game. unless the devs are also soku superplayers, chances are they will miss stuff that the more experienced people in the playerbase will abuse, there's not much you can do about that if you are just working with a small team

it makes me think of soku2 a bit, in case people dont know it's a (pretty fun) soku mod that adds a bunch of characters complete with everything you'd expect: sprites and animations, netplayable, their own skills and spells (mostly based on existing characters though), even their own win screen dialogue, card descriptions, illustrations for character select and win screens

soku2 is an example where that actually is the case, fear nagae is one of the strongest and most experienced players of the game, also has people like freudia, pinkysmile iirc
so it's not impossible or unprecedented for soku community members to work on soku adjacent stuff, but when i think of soku2: it's been worked on for years to get to where it is, 13 characters, mostly based on existing characters in many ways (movement, sound effects, skills, spell cards), uses soku's game mechanics rather than making a whole new game, uses existing soku mod infrastructure and rollback netplay, some things still arent finished yet

(also unfortunately its kind of rare to see people even playing soku2 even though it's easy to set up and works with existing mods and is pretty fun imo)

it really puts things into perspective for me and unless the dream duel devs are also strong experienced soku players and have put in years of work into this project already, i just cant see how they'd realistically make something with close to 13 characters, all new novel movesets like that yukari barrier slap, all new art assets, balanced, and yet still coming out this year and NOT heavily copying most things directly from soku
id love to see them prove me wrong though

ggs, i see you've figured out how to BE effectively. just a few things i should add, BEing out of spammy 4A/2A strings is usually not worth it unless you have a REALLY good read on when i'll be going for the mixup. otherwise it'll just get caught by the next 4A. also it's good to mix up BE points even if you find a consistent one. you probably noticed against Yukari that BEing out of 2C is pretty easy, but once i notice that i will catch it with pinwheel, which you could normally punish if you block it instead

apparently that one ball has the tendency to lose hits when it clashes against a stronger bullet. little issue is, my laser should not be a stronger bullet since it's a lower tier bullet. BUT also lasers tend to have infinite hp, according to that same page
testing it out will probably be annoying but if i had to guess, my laser just ate the hits of a higher tier bullet because tasofraud. i.e. just some accidental bullshit

that combo in >>1806477 doesn't seem that useless, especially if you can combo the dp off an air unblockable. Reimu j5A into itself is stupidly good for corner-carrying anyone that's caught air blocking pretty much anywhere on the screen, so you could realistically set up into that
also Patchy f5A fire rings have to be the best, most interactive example of why air teching is not good in this game

rejumps in general are not too hard and worth learning because they are always useful regardless of hit or block, it's just an easy way to extend damage even during combos
corner carry is really nothing too complicated, it's just the same thing but against an opponent that's blocking. the only tricky part with Reimu as far as i can tell is that whether you want to follow up the rising j5A with j5C or j2C depends entirely on how far above the opponent is, which you'll just have to eyeball and react to. that's just something you learn by trying it over and over again in matches, j2C seems to work more often than not though

if you want to test it out you can set the dummy to jump block on rollcaster

depends, i've never really tried SWR/Soku on Lunatic, i can 1cc IaMP but it's hellish and floatan are usually the easiest Lunatic 1ccs. AoCF in particular might be the single easiest Lunatic 1cc among all official games in the series, even counting meme 1ccs like PoFV Aya or other games that get broken by bomb spam

frankly i don't think playing the games as fighting games helps much in getting all Lunatic 1ccs. enemies play nothing like humans at all and you can usually cheese them during the first phase of the battle anyways. and spell cards break pretty much all rules of the game and you will get your ass handed to you if you don't have proper strats for each individual spell. not too unlike routing spell cards in a shmup. hell, many times you end up using strats from shmups in order to beat some spells

which one? there's the skill lets me charge up meter whenever you are within its range, and it's actually pretty fast so i can get like 3-4 cards if you are inside for the whole duration. one game i set it up before you died and then pushed you in between rounds and managed to draw a whole extra card because of that
there are 2 spells that also look similar, the 2sc is like a buffed up Ibuki Gourd that costs 2 cards and lets me draw 4, and the 3sc resets my deck completely, as if the game had just started which may or may not be completely fucking broken, especially with the skill that lets me keep drawing cards

yeah, those cards are the reason why i can get away with running a deck full of 4/5 cost spell cards. i actually just have x1 of most cards in my deck, but i can still use them with no commitment because i can always just reset my deck and keep drawing them
i actually started keeping count of the remaining 3 cost spells in my deck, because if i accidentally burn all 4 of them then the whole gameplan gets screwed and i'm fucked, so i have to make sure i always have at least 1 deck reset left. honestly it's a pretty fun kind of resource management i wish other characters had. maybe not this broken, though

Try out more bombs/hangekis. They can be baited but in order to bait them I have to leave large gaps in pressure which will also give you the chance to escape by simply high jumping or mashing. Also I see you were trying to use coin in the corner. Coin is the best defensive system card, but it's also really weird in the corner and if you aren't very familiar with how it works you'll just drain your own orbs quickly. It's safer to spam it in midscreen since it's more consistent

Also, normally i wouldn't tell newer players to BE, but you are already pretty good at it so definitely abuse that. It's the main defensive mechanic in the game and it's hard to catch on reaction. It's better if you have a plan before you do it though, because I will chase after you and you have to be ready for that, otherwise you'll get caught again and you'll have wasted an orb for nothing

Lastly there are reversal spell cards, although Sakuya only has Inscribed Red Soul which kinda sucks because it loses bullet invulnerability right before the hitbox comes out, so if you don't use it at the right moment it will still lose

Sakuya is strong but defense is definitely one of her bigger weaknesses, she has basically no reversals and her techroll covers a really short distance on top of being slow, so she can get oki'd to death. I would still stick with her, but then again I also main her so I may be a bit biased. In the end it depends on what you are looking for in a character

It's harder/less lenient because of its old input reader. Also the fact that all assets are reused in SWR/Soku leads a lot of people to the misconception that IaMP is just an older, obsolete version of those games rather than a fully different game, so many people don't see a reason to play it.

Funny enough, none of these issues are a big deal in fighting game circles (people are already used to games with old, crusty input readers and few people know about the continuity of 2hu games) so IaMP is slightly more "popular" than Soku in fighting game circles. she has no proper antiairs. sometimes you can instant hj j5A or j6A, but you need to abuse their range as much as possible and also make sure there's no bullet cover nearby because otherwise you lose the trade. really you just don't want to be in that position to begin with, it's better to try to air-to-air after a j6C or something like that but waiting in the ground is just a bad situation for her. worst case scenario just use Veils and bail out

usually long range moves aren't fast enough to compete but that j2A is an anomaly so even then i won by like 1 single frame. that was pretty lucky because if you had pressed that even 1 frame earlier i would have gotten counter-hit in Diamond Dust

that was after a knockdown, oki is only safe pressure (barring reversals) because you can hit me on the very first few frames and i don't have time to start an attack before you hit me, but in this case you pretty much only started jumping while i was already waking up and at that point i already know the oki is going to be extremely late so if you even attempt to go for it i could potentially get a whiff punish off of it

what i did was still risky for me because i picked a super slow option and it easily could have traded, i really only did that because i had the HP lead. but any other character could have just antiaired (Sakuya 2B, Yuyu 2B, etc) and gotten the kill with zero risk. trying to air-to-ground when i had no reason to stand still or to not throw out a move (like if there was a bullet covering that area) was just not a good idea to begin with

there is a time for everything, if you are like one second late to the oki you can get punished really hard if you still try to force it even after the window is long gone. if you can recognize that you are late to punish a wake-up, whiff or whatever, it's usually better to play it safe and just reposition yourself or block

yeah you are right there, in a vacuum just trying to forcefully approach is a complete gamble. your goal isn't to be slightly faster (which is impossible, consistently at least), it's to make the situation favorable first so that the approach isn't just a coinflip

yeah, unfortunately i just discovered that it doesn't work anyways. i learned recently that you could abuse Typhoon to land Massacre with Suika fairly easily, so i figured it would work with another unblockable. turns out it just doesn't because tasofraud hates the frog
at least in both cases the weather manipulation was necessary so i still got some reward from it

Yes, it's the spiritual sequel to Crash Team Racing. Released officially as early access a couple months ago with mod support and has a ton of custom tracks, characters and vehicles. If you've ever played CTR, you'll know the game is all about going fast, taking hard racing lines and optimizing your boost reserves.

if you mean the hitbox behind her, that's something different. Suwako herself also has a hitbox when she does her little jump in the air while summoning the tree. it's mostly useful for combos but sometimes you can get tagged by it if you get past the tree and try to hit her while the hitbox is still active
trees in general are quite obnoxious though, playing around them is pretty tough
