>What is this game?
BallisticNG is a PC anti-gravity racing game available on Steam or GOG, based mostly on Wip3out, with optional mechanics from the newer Wipeout games.
If you like going fast, good tunes, and good fun, this game is for you.

>How do I join?
Get the game.
(Optional: Grab the Outer Reaches and Maceno Island DLCs too)
Download and install our track pack (instructions in the pastebin).
Launch the game, go to Multiplayer, and join us.

Links to download the latest track pack, install instructions, and some extras can be found here:
https://pastebin.com/d0KQeKGC (embed)
The mini-pack is just for updating from the previous version, get the full one if you're joining us for the first time or haven't played for a while.

>How do I play?
A 3-step guide will be posted containing the basics of going fast.
We can also answer any questions you might have, either here or in the lobby.

We have a Steam group: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/ballisticnv
This is used just for organizing race sessions or assisting if someone is having issues joining the lobby or something, no circlejerking. If you join the group chat you'll get a (You) chat bloop when lobbies go up on Saturday.

We have a regular session going every week on Saturdays starting at 9PM UK time, but hosting is easy and anyone can start up a lobby if people wanna get racist during the week.

i'm a wipEout pulse addict
should i bite the bullet and play this instead? it's BNG or Omega collection, i think...
>>
>>1944902
overall i think BNG would be the better package
if it really has to be one or the other, you could always just pirate bng, we switched to using IP lobbies recently so you'd still be able to join multiplayer sessions as long as you have the latest stable version

HUD mod is all but done, all that's left to do is add options for user configuration, remove some unused variables, and clean up some other things.

https://files.catbox.moe/p2mx4s.zip (Google says the file is dangerous, probably because it has a dll in it)

In the meanwhile, this is basically the final version before it's ready for official release, and I think it would be cool if we got to play with it on gimmick day.

If you want to recompile the mod yourself (source code is included in the zip if you want to look through it), just delete the provided .ini and .dll files before following the installation steps.

To install, extract the VanillaPlus folder, navigate to BallisticNG\User\Mods\Code Mods, paste the folder into the Code Mods folder, launch the game, go to Modding/Code Mods, set the enabled field under vanillaplus to 'enabled', relaunch the game, go to Options/Game Options/Mods/ and switch the HUD style to vanillaplus (name isn't final).

Oh, forgot to mention, the only supported gamemode is single race/tournaments.

i dont have any links because im a good goyim, but yeah, if you can pirate 1.4.0.1 then you can join our MP sessions, the game is completely DRM free
just a normal raceday this saturday (only difference from default being zen speed, mines removed and hunter added, lapcount decreased or increased for short or long tracks respectively)
gimmick racism only happens on the first raceday of every month however if you wanna do something silly and/or retarded most racists will probably be down for it for at least a race or two

>Pirate it
If anything you should just download a Wipeout HD Fury rom and emulate that via RPCS3 if you don't want the objectively inferior experience provided by Omega Collection which has all the same content as HD Fury. BallisticNG not only has an actually active multiplayer but is also worth the money, unlike Omega Collection.

are steam lobbies peer to peer or does it use some form of steam networking? this game is my hyperfixation and I am not kidding I have poured hundreds of hours into double damage apex nfs4bng atlantica over and over exclusively against bots because I am a sperg but I want to see how I match up against other ppl and don't know where else people who play this game are located but here

i live in the most rural region of the united states and my internet is starlink so that is why I am concerned about hosting sporadic multiplayer lobbies like i realized if i DO host i can just run the settings i like and i think the map is pretty common in mod folders and ill just turn off custom ships so anyone with just the map file can play. but it is like weird autist combat focuses settings. i mostly play cygon and mako
>>
>>1968417
So steam is functionally peer to peer. Steamworks is basically just an API that allows players to connect but it has some quirks.
We are currently using direct connect IP right now though because some of our regular players had connection issues with steam.
The main worry with spotty internet is that if you get DC'd you have to wait out the race to rejoin. And also on occasion it can cause further connection issues which the host has to troubleshoot (mostly just involves people leaving/joining until its fixed and we get a thumbs up from the host) That being said the way syncing works means if it's just raw lag, usually it's smoothed out well.

The settings we usually use are Zen speed (you can request to have it turned down if you need)
Mines disabled, Hunters enabled. (helps balance out the over-advantage of the person in first, also mines are really shitty in full lobbies because they just clog up everything)
Custom ships don't require people to have the ship installed since the backend will just sync your position and such and will use a placeholder model. We have custom ships enabled and everyone is cool about it.

If you want to host, it should be fine as long as your net isn't so spotty that it constantly drops people. Steam is easiest but failing that you can try peer to peer.
And of course join the steam group if you need bodies or help.

i have known about the race days for years, i actually started playing the game because of these threads i have no interest in partaking . i had an idea to play how i usually play but open mp lobby cuz i play 2-3 hours a day and if i just do it online instead of offline sometimes people might come by and check it out but if it is peer to peer then loooooooooooool
>>
>>1969044
You can host an open lobby via steam. But they will still see your IP and such as though it were peer to peer and the lobby isn't hosted remotely.
>>
>>1969044
like the other anon said you can just host a public steam lobby but your ping will still be visible to anyone who wants it, quite a lot of games on steam do this (all of the souls games for example) which you can see by checking the steam overlay while doing multiplayer in them
don't worry if your internet is shit - as long as it's stable and isnt dropping out on regularly you should be fine to host
>>
>>1969333

>>1969054
>>1969333
neither of you understand what I am trying to communicate and that is fine bcuz I know what I want to do will not work
>>
>>1970422
well if you explain further we might be able to help you, it just sounds like you want to host an open dropin/dropout lobby with your own custom settings which is perfectly doable
>>
>>1970576
my internet is fairly inconsistent, if I was to host anyone who joined would be disconnecting about once every 5 minutes
>>
>>1970642
oh, then yeah if your internet has frequent drops then everybody would be getting kicked when it does including (You)
>>
>>1970642
oh, i forgot dedicated server support was added recently, i dont know much about how they work in regards to bng but that is an option
i dont know shit about dedicated server hosting but i imagine you could rent a serverbox or whatever and have a lobby up 24/7 that way if you wanted, but doesnt seem like it would be worth it for a game with almost completely dead public online like bng lmao
>>
in honour of anon we're going to do an apex double damage race on nfs4bng tonight as soon as more than 6 racists are present
don't miss it

Updated the mod with user configuration settings so if you want to disable the rear view mirror or change something else, now you can.
Also some bugfixes and other random changes.

If you want to read through all the changes in the code since the last version, you can look through the commit here, but I don't think we'll be using codemods in multiplayer any time soon unless a host mod whitelist setting gets added sometime down the line in update 1.4.1 or 1.4.2.

14 players is higher than normal lmao, usually our saturday lobbies make up 90% of the concurrent players at the time
but yeah the game is pretty much dead online besides bn/v/ and a couple other small communities
