Despite the last thread getting archived unexpectedly, Frens of Akalabeth hasn't gone anywhere. I didn't put a new thread up right away because I was working on the EQ server and wanted to do a combined thread. It took longer than expected, but as of tonight SoloQuest is up and running.Frens of Akalabeth (UO)>Client: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gXDjk58BMOB3ezZtq5hjQtBNfVFom8cx/view>Server IP: 31.97.150.34 (set it in either the TazUO or ClassicAssist Launcher)FoA is my personal fork of Ultima Memento which is a fork of Adventurers of Akalabeth which is a fork of Ruins & Riches which is a fork of UO Odyssey by Djeryv. It's UO remade to be played as a single-player or small group sandbox adventure. This server has been running in one form or another for almost 2 years, although we wiped in March for the switch to Memento as its base. The way I've always described it is a shared single-player experience. My notable changes:>Boss HP scaling based on number of players and non-summoned followers engaging them.>Neutral and evil monster races must maintain 2.5k and 5k fame/karma respectively to enter most towns.>Unlike other trade skills, Alchemy does count toward the skill cap.>Trade skills that gave a direct combat bonus no longer give that bonus.>Tracking now gives a percentage weapon and spell damage bonus against the tracked mob equal to 25% of your Tracking skill.>Town Guards don't instagib and are killable, but they're still really tough.>Trail Maps reworked to a non-magic recall system.>Lower Reagent Cost capped at 80%.>Player corpse bones persist for a year, so other players who come through a dungeon will know you died there months ago.
SoloQuest (EQ)>ClientYou'll need to get a copy of the RoF2 client, which is available from a few places. You can even download it directly from Steam using DepotDownloader, as described here https://www.eqemulator.org/forums/showthread.php?t=43742Once you have the client you'll need to patch the zone files to Omens of War with this https://github.com/Akkadius/eq-expansion-switcher>ServerHost=login.eqemulator.net:5999 in eqhost.txtMake a forum account at eqemulator.org. That will be your login account.Find SoloQuest in the server list and connect.SoloQuest was designed with the same "shared single-player experience" philosophy. As you can guess by the name, it's EQ re-balanced for solo play. There are a lot of changes and you can read about them all here: https://www.eqemulator.org/index.php?pageid=serverinfo&worldid=4400
we're so back
>>1949318>>Boss HP scaling based on number of players and non-summoned followers engaging them. You changed this? Didn't summons used to count?
>>1949750Yes I just changed it. With the rate that summons get dispelled by bosses I think it was unnecessarily punishing to summoners.
>>1949904Here is exactly how the boss scaling works for any new people:>Most "boss" mobs will now scale their HP to the number of players and active followers engaging them.>HP is multiplied by the number of players and strength of the followers fighting the mob.>Each player adds 1 multiplier to the boss' max HP.>The multiplier added for followers is calculated based on the combat prowess of the pet, ranging from 0 to 4.>A wolf is rank 0 while a primeval dragon is rank 4.>Summoned followers do not count for scaling purposes.>Additional players/followers joining the fight will increase the boss' multiplier, but the multiplier will not decrease until 10 minutes pass from the last scale up. The boss will only scale up again if the rank of its foes exceeds the previous max.>There is messaging for both scaling up and down so you will know if a mob scales or not.>This behavior is limited to those unique boss monsters usually tied to quests such as Mangar, Exodus, Banes, Titans, Dracula etc.>Example: 2 players engage Mangar, 1 player has a pet wyrm (rank 3): Mangar's HP is multiplied by 5. Another player joins the fight and Mangar's max HP is now multiplied by 6 plus he heals the difference between his prior max HP and new max HP. If the players fail to kill him, Mangar does a scale down check 10 minutes from when he scaled up last. If he has 0 or 1 foe at that time his HP returns to its base value. The main reason for instituting this was that the game was a cakewalk for tamers. This is the only fork of Odyssey that actually addresses how OP tamers are.
>Account-based progression system. Use the !prog and !prog track commands in-game.>Classic: All races and classes available EXCEPT Iksar and Vah Shir. Level 51 cap so you can grind AAs here. Unlock Kunark by killing Nagafen or Vox or Phinigel OR by killing 12 iconic dungeon mobs.>Kunark: Iksar now available. Level 60 cap. Unlock Velious by killing Trakanon or Venril Sathir OR by completing key quests.>Velious: Unlock Luclin by killing Dain or King Tormax or Lord Yelinak OR by questing for every Skyshrine or Kael armor piece for your class.>Luclin: Vah Shir now available. Unlock PoP by killing Emperor Sshraeza or Thought Horror Overfiend or Grieg OR loot all 10 Lucid Shards for the VT key. You have to loot them from a corpse for it to count.I like the alternate progression options a lot. How hard are those raid mobs in-era solo?
Reading around I still don't understand how offline UO works. What's the most popular version? Is there any way for me to host the server locally on my machine and install additional mods (like SPTarkov)? How can I set this up?
>>1951029I was new to it and it's really cool but later my anti virus said mine had a really badly malwared exe which spooked the living fuck out of me.wiped it and haven't tried it again but I forgot where I downloaded mine
>>1950881>How hard are those raid mobs in-era solo? All of the progression raids should be doable by any class at current level cap, with good gear and AAs plus a bot. Some classes will need a bot more than others. I tested them all with a Warrior + Cleric bot. I do expect more tweaking will be needed, particularly for the tougher raid zones like Veeshan's Peak and ToV which I deliberately left more difficult (ToV trash mobs were nerfed significantly more than the bosses as they're meant to be solo'd for the armor quests). I expect those will require 2 players to clear, VP especially. >>1951029If you want to run your own local server of one of the Odyssey forks you need to get the corresponding client and server files. The fork mine is based on is here https://github.com/Jascen/ultima-memento
kek this is a nice touch
>>1952583Death announcements are sovl.
I’m trying to get on to SoloQuest and am having trouble. I downloaded the rof2 client from the steam depot and then I downloaded the exe for the expansion switcher. When I run the expansion switcher it has an install window with a bar that fills up to 100% and then does nothing. I’m not sure what this program is supposed to do or if that’s it. I would think at some point I would have to pick an expansion. After that I try to run eqgame.exe but it bring up and error window that just says “run EverQuest.exe” but that exe doesn’t exist. What am I doing wrong?
>>1954435Run expansion switcher in admin mode, select your EQ directory, pick the Omens of War expansion then patch.
>>1954666Ok I got the files patched correctly but I am still getting this when I run eqgame.exe both normally and in admin mode. Am I supposed to launch using something else?
>>1954772Go to into your EverQuest_RoF2 directory and locate the EQGAME.EXE file. Right-click on the file and select "Create Shortcut." You can rename this shortcut and drag it anywhere you'd like (most people like to put it on their desktop). Now, right-click that shortcut and select Properties. In the "target" box, you will see the path to the eqgame.exe file. At the end of the target add "patchme" (no quotes). Your target box should look similar to this:-If space in directory path:"C:\Program Files\Everquest\eqgame.exe" patchme-No space in directory path:C:\Everquest\eqgame.exe patchme
>>1954795it worked thanks anon
SoloQuest:If anyone was having issues with zones becoming unavailable that should be fixed now.
>>1949318Are the nexus and bazaar accessible by default or do you have to be in luclin? Is there a level requirement to enter them?
>>1957308They're accessible right away at level 1 in Classic progression. Also the Hole and the Warrens are accessible in Classic.SoloQuest:>Fixed Shaman bots' spell table. Their AI and ^cast functions are now working properly.
SoloQuest:>Added a 25% group XP PENALTY. This is the tradeoff for the added safety of having a bot in your group. Risk vs reward is the name of the game.>Bots can no longer be invited to a group while in combat.
>>1957945im not level 20 yet, but ive never played with a bot before. you say on the server page you recommend keeping one leveled and geared up to date, but how do you interact with the bot? ive only ever played p99 and live classic. is it just all text commands? including managing its inventory and having it cast spells?
>>1958128Yeah, just type ^help to get a list of all the commands. The AI is pretty robust and handles combat well enough on its own, but there's a lot of customization you can do if you want. On other servers people do raids by themselves with 70 bots, so just the 1 is very easy to manage. On another note we have our first player to advance to Kunark. Congrats, Mael. ngl I wasn't expecting that level of poopsocking out of the gate.
I tried to zone into misty thicket from runnyeye and the game crashed and gave me an error saying the misty zone files were not found. Now when I try to log in (on any character in any zone) it has the black you have been disconnected screen and crashes immediately. Any idea whats wrong?
>>1960537Did you patch your zone files to Omens of War with the expansion switcher? The disconnect is probably just because your character hasn't timed out.
>>1960615Yes, I have been playing for many hours with no issues. I am able to access the nexus and bazaar with no issue so the expansion switch was done correctly. I haven't tried zoning back into misty yet but I was able to get back into the game on another character after it presumably timed out like you said. I used the return to home option on character select to get out of misty.
>>1960670It's possible just your misty files are corrupted. Run the patcher again.
>>1960677I found that I was unable to zone into highpass as well. After doing some research I think I may have found the issue, or at least part of it. The server db points to using the classic misty thicket zone, however the files included in the rof2 client are the revamped files, and the classic files are NOT included in the expansion switcher. The revamped zone files are mistythicket_xxx while the classic zone files are misty_xxx. I was able to get into misty thicket by copying all of the misty_xxx files from my p99 folder and deleting all of the mistythicket_xxx files in my SoloQuest folder.I believe that highpass has the opposite problem where the db is pointing to the revamped files highpasshold_xxx however those files are different from the classic highpass_xxx files that are in the SoloQuest folder which are patched with the expansion switcher. This is more of a guess though since I can't test it directly.
nta with the runnyeye problem but i tried zoning into west commonlands from east commonlands and got a missing zone file "commons" crash-to-desktop. I copied over two different types of files named "commons" from my thj directory to soloquest, and everything worked no problem.
Everyone having zone issues EXCEPT in Highpass is due to not using the Expansion Switcher or needing to re-run it. The OOW patch from the switcher works just fine for Misty on my machine. Highpass is apparently a known issue that I wasn't aware of and I have to do some stuff to get the old version working.
>>1960810After redownloading the rof2 client and copying over the revamped zone files highpasshold_xxx and deleting the classic files patched in from the expansion switcher highpass_xxx I was able to successfully get in to highpass. I think this is a broad issue with revamped zones being assigned in the db. The revamped zones are completely different zones with different files so if the db is pointing to the revamped/classic version and there is a mismatch then it will say the zone files are missing. I assume this is the case with what anon said above as well, which is why it worked when he pasted in his rof2 files from THJ.
>>1960851The expansion switcher tells you exactly which files it is patching, the misty files aren't in it.
>>1960859Regardless, I didn't need to copy any other files. Misty works. I don't know what to tell you.
Old Highpass Hold is working now. You'll (probably) need these zone files: https://mega.nz/file/DZRBWQpI#N9h8Ka9dd_B2Gz1KGWRQJNK3VViEMVMMHVOlUF81IFw
The Lavastorm zone line to Temple of SolRo is no longer an invisible door you have to click. Just walk over as usual. Also changed the time between Spire ports to the Nexus from 15 minutes to 10 minutes.
do all races and classes gain xp at the same rate? it feels different but it might just be my imagination, i know it was a thing in the past but not sure how far it got carried forward (for soloquest)
>>1961944They should be. I didn't enable the old race/class XP penalties
i'm liking the server, anon. who knew single player everquest could be so much fun?
>>1964210So true.
>>1964210>solo everquestWHY!?Why would you play something meant for groups of thousands of players solo!?
>>1965523why not?

>>1965523For me, I end up playing solo 90% of the time anyway (even on P99). At least on a server like this I can do everything. I mean THJ is the most popular emu server ever and even with 3k people on it may as well be 3k single player servers with a shared chat and Bazaar since everyone is in their own instance. This is a much more grounded THJ (group mobs actually pose a threat, but you can still solo most raids with a bot) in a non-instanced shared world with stakes because death is painful.
Sounds interesting since The Hero's Journey is on standby mode due to the lawsuit.
Any thoughts on removing the group requirement for LDoN missions?
oy vey! ze goyim is playing alone! shat him down!
>>1968527It's a pain in the ass because the group check is baked into the client. I did lock them behind PoP progression though. Also if you had an Adventurer's Stone (3 of you did) you no longer have it.
Is it feasible to tank all the raid bosses through oow with the necro pet? I'm not far but it seems like picking a dps class as your class would be not ideal since you can only have 1 bot so you won't have either a tank or a healer unless you pick one as your character.
>>1969079Ideal? Maybe not. Viable? Yes, every class can take on the raids with a bot. Some will just have an easier time and need less AAs to do it. Remember, you don't have to raid at all to progress. That's just one path.
is the mob debuff window supposed to not work? im almost certain that is a feature native to the rof2 client
