Lotro is having that giveaway they're doing every few years again. From what I understand it's basically a bunch of mini-expansions.
I only played it briefly myself years and years ago, and always was late to grab these. So if anyone was interested in giving it a shot, now's the time.
>>

i really like this game but never got to the end. i'm at level 121 now, at this rate i might reach the end and hit level cap in about 2 years
>>
>>1975756
Are they doing it for DDO too?

If you really want to grind some level, get on during a festival event and do all the quests every day, you can easily get half a level every day, more if you want to deliver booze across the continent.
I actually have more fun trying to go around shit, it's crazy when even the fucking deer see you from max distance and are trying to kill you, but fuck riders. It's all about that stable masters map baybee.
>>
>play soulless, poorly maintained pay2win slop
miss me with that. echoes of angmar exists
>>
I only play it f2p, it's more fun if you can't instant travel everywhere.
>>
will try it out
>>
fyi apparently the code THANKYOU2025 is also currently active, use it if you haven't yet
>>
Spent a lot of money on this game years ago, all my purchases were ''lost'' when the game moved ownership, so I look to see what this ancient game's sub looks like and it's 15 fucking bucks a month lol.
lmao.

You gotta be fucking kidding me.

>From what I understand it's basically a bunch of mini-expansions.
LOTRO allows F2P players to access content until Riders of Rohan (3rd expansion). With this content you get everything before Corsairs of Umbar.
>>
>>1975756
I binged the fuck out of this game a few years ago. Pretty much 100%ed every achievement/milestone that was soloable. Huge ass game, very fun, and I enjoyed doing all the achievements to earn lotro points and buy content from the shop.
>>

Guess what, now they've made more content for you to waste your time on!
And LP-maxxing can be fun.

Yeah, dunno if it's related, but I couldn't find my old character on any of the servers and apparently they closed down 32-bit servers and opened 64-bit ones. You had to transfer your characters before end of August or something. I've read that they're going to open transfers again at a later date.
Weird technical stuff.
>>1984992
It works, thanks.
I made an elf and their zone seems kind of empty compared to human. Or at least I'm getting an impression human zone was more packed and easier to find stuff to do.
Just need to find time play this now and maybe move on to better locations.
>>
>>1986221
If you just started, all new chars go through a starter zone which is an instance of just part of the big world. There aren't going to be a lot of other players there because it's only new chars. Once you finish all the quests in there it lets you out.
>they closed down 32-bit servers
If you were on a previously active 32-bit server, this month is probably the worst time to start playing again. They had free moves set up from those servers but that ended last month.
I think they're about to create some better way to allow migrations from dead servers, but it's not ready yet and you will have to go through the customer support process. I can't help you there.

I've only played until like level 15-20, so it's no biggie.
>all new chars go through a starter zone which is an instance
I chose the tutorial that has you go through the whole war with Sauron shenanigans flashback. I know practically nothing about the lore and story besides watching movies when they came out.
Pretty sure I'm out in the real world now, though I just don't have time to play right now.
>>
>>1987681
That's just for high elves. Every race gets their own starting instance before it dumps you off in the prologue areas - well, assuming you chose the Shadows of Angmar start. Beyond the Shadow dumps you off immediately in swanfleet and everyone has the same starting instance.
>>
Dunlending fuckin' shits. Betray me and ship me off to Isengard to slave for Uruk's and be interrogated by Saruman.

It honestly feels great to go back to Tel Methedras after you escape and slaughter a bunch of them.
>>
>>1991086
As far as Uruk-hai go, the lackey that Morflak assigns to watch you is actually a somewhat decent sort.
>>
>>1991086

Free transfers from dark worlds (the older 32bit servers) to new worlds are open.

how is this game for someone that doesnt care about mmos or lotr?
>>
>>2003497
why should it be?
why is everything all about you?
>>
>>1975756
if the game scaled properly to higher resolutions I'd play it.
>>
>>2008106
It's not great at 1080p from couch distance, but at least you can make the quest dialog text bigger. And then it doesn't remember, so you have to set it every time you log in.
But there's still some text that you can't make bigger, and even worse they do that purple-on-black shit with serif fonts and you can't read any of it unless you put your nose to the screen. There's outlines on the text, but it's too thin for serif fonts, and black outlines don't help with dark text.
It's not just about high resolution, it also needs better text contrast.
>>
and those tiny fucking UI buttons, yeah, they don't get any bigger, even when you can make the window bigger, it's bad enough at 1080p, it's gotta be awful on a 4K monitor

wow, typical ugly gear, you need to set up a cosmetic layout just to protect your own eyes, even f2p gets two slots of that

Pelargir was neat
>>

First time I tried the epic battle system was Helm's Dike, but I was retarded and couldn't figure anything out and just did the story mission versions of the stages of Helm's Deep instead. It clicked in the retaking of Pelargir though.

One of the biggest sins I still feel that the movies did was removing Aragorn's trip across Gondor gathering up the remaining troops and cutting out Prince Imrahil.
>>
I'm rather enjoying piecing together the exact timing of the gondor regions as you progress along the dawnless day. By the time you reach ithilien, it's pretty much the point where Faramir's ordered retaking of osgiliath fails, but the Morgul host hasn't advanced yet into the Pelennor as they're still building siege weapons/building a span over the grand causeway.

I just picked a bunch of blue line traits and use the self-heal rotation then an AoE rotation, it's getting me through the landscape content at least. Still I'm seriously thinking it'd be easier to just start over with a burglar or something

I know this feeling. That's why I'm currently much further on my captain.

Unrelated - but I made my own personal kinship for my characters. Now I just gotta wait for the next 2-3 months or so until my lifespan rank is high enough to where I can buy picrel.

The hobbit houses are nice, but I've got elves and the name I came up with is sindarin for 'People of the Singing Birds.' I don't think they'd fit in on the edge of the southfarthing.

came with the first umbar expansion. I like it, it's fun. The extreme rarity of daggers once you get out of moria is an annoyance though since the only weapons you use is sword and dagger dual wielding.
>>
>tfw going around talking to all the various thanes and reeves you met through out Rohan while looking for Theoden in Taur Druadan

I'm legit getting pretty pumped for the charge of the rohirrim and the battle of the pelennor.
>>
>>2028784
sounds comfy! I've got a high elf but I bought one of the dwarf houses because I like the aesthetic better. I'm roleplaying that my guy was one of the Noldor who got along well with Dwarves back in the day

Some of the Warden stuff is coming back to me a little. Got to the end of the south Mirkwood quest line anyway. Only to find out I could have been questing in Enedwaith instead, a zone that isn't hours and hours of grey dreary forest! Oh well, on to Dunland now
>>
>>2029096
oh, so you basically have to craft your own daggers
good to know
>>
>>2030279
Well, it's not really any different in that regard since by the time you get up to around supreme you're at the mercy of scroll drops for recipes. It's more you have to be slightly more aware of what's on offer at faction rep vendors. Normally you can kinda ignore them, but especially in rohan I had to keep an eye on what they had because it was the only way I was getting a dagger once I had finished up Mirkwood and got one of sigileth's daggers.

Some of these aftermath quests. yeesh. Gotta walk along the northern stretch of the wall gathering up the various body parts the orcs catapulted up there. Taking the lord of the blackroot vale around to try and help identify the bodies of his two sons because they got trampled by mumakil.

Yup. Those are black gates, all right.

>>2035637
I've seen a couple of those (only like 2). Took all my willpower to not make the obvious 'I've heard of dark elves, but this is ridiculous' joke to their face.
>>
>>2035680
The fun part is that I know a dwarf in Erebor who will just throw you to the other side of those gates. If you're too young you'll probably get ripped to shreds in an instant, but sometimes you really can just walk into Mordor.
>>
>>2035761
I think there's also a death wall effect that is locked behind the epic questline much like the guard stones in Angmar
>>
>>2035772
Yes, and you can totally ignore it with the Erebor dwarf teleport.

So they're pretending rohan doesn't exist in the Angmar server, 1 month for each lvl cap with +50% exp.
Hope this is enough to keep the server alive, I'm really enjoying the lvl 75 cap right now.
>>
>>2036797
>So they're pretending rohan doesn't exist in the Angmar server,
I haven't gotten to this yet, is it really that bad?
>>
>>2036797
I don't know if it's pretending it doesn't exist. I mean, Rohan is A LOT of content to go through packed into 75-95. It's one thing to have the whole shebang being 2 expansions with several filler sections when it was released and that was that, it's another thing when you're trying to have this curated scheduled progression.
>>
>reading the book/watching the movie and visiting the locations in the game after reading or seeing them
quinoa
>>
So the promotion that they're running gives you quest content from a bunch of expansions for free? I'm considering trying this game for the first time just to casually experience the levelling, is this the sort of game you can just play and get by or do you need to use external wikis or guides to understand the systems and zone progression and whatever for casual play?
>>
You better hurry, it's almost over.
