One of the biggest sins I still feel that the movies did was removing Aragorn's trip across Gondor gathering up the remaining troops and cutting out Prince Imrahil.
I'm rather enjoying piecing together the exact timing of the gondor regions as you progress along the dawnless day. By the time you reach ithilien, it's pretty much the point where Faramir's ordered retaking of osgiliath fails, but the Morgul host hasn't advanced yet into the Pelennor as they're still building siege weapons/building a span over the grand causeway.

It's more you have to be slightly more aware of what's on offer at faction rep vendors. Normally you can kinda ignore them, but especially in rohan I had to keep an eye on what they had because it was the only way I was getting a dagger once I had finished up Mirkwood and got one of sigileth's daggers.

It's one thing to have the whole shebang being 2 expansions with several filler sections when it was released and that was that, it's another thing when you're trying to have this curated scheduled progression.
