Help liberate Kamitra today so that future pilots can enjoy a nice cigar and top rate power plant engineering!

Elite Dangerous is a massive online space sim where you haul in order to haul in order to haul and organize with other people to haul together, and maybe sometimes you shoot at people who are hauling or shoot at things which at first glance are unrelated to hauling so that you can eventually haul better.

its on sale for $2. Is it gonna shut down this year? can you play it when the servers are down?
>>
>>1986363
They've recently started developing more stuff for it. It does look like it's going down the route of selling it cheap and making money from (mostly) cosmetics, a model that has proved successful elsewhere. They appear to be getting enough profit from it to keep it going for the foreseeable future. Who knows what will happen in a decade though.
Any really big game changing features are probably off the table unless they start making a lot more from it though. It's probably going to be a few new improved features a year, plus the usual story progression. Nothing that would require a radical change in the code.
>>
>>1986363
They may as well make the game free at this point. They make their money on cosmetics and early access for new ships.
>>
>>1987848
The early access for ships thing basically killed my interest. I haven't played in months.
>>
>>1988746
NTA but I really don't mind it, if it means we get new content and updates as we have this year compared to the last several, then it's necessary. Just have to wait a couple months to get it after its out for credits. I'll keep working on my colonization in the meantime.
>>
>finally got a fully engineered corvette
>literally isnt possible to make money anywhere near as quickly or easily as doing a "trade route" that consists of jumping 1 or 2 times for 30 million credits
why are the stupid nigger monkey devs refusing to make this game ever be anything but a chore
literally what was the fucking point of grinding all this time just to have the most powerful combat ship possible and it be utterly fucking useless for the only practical thing in this game, making money
>>
>>1988986
also
literally all crime: complete waste of time. smuggling? worthless. illegal assassination type missions? worthless.
all bait you into wasting time and realizing its fucking pointless
its bad enough that they turned the multiplayer in this game into nothing but a gankfest, where you'd be a fucking retard to join open play without a PVP build ship which is going to be useless for anything else, so its literally nothing but faggots spazzing out trying to club seals and retarded new players getting raped for no reason
but these stupid niggers made every single other aspect of the game that involves risk a complete waste of time. theres no high risk high reward anywhere. theres high risk low reward, because fuck you idiot nigger.
its alll just boring shit for retarded faggot pussies because the devs didnt want anyone to have fun and get ahead of the faggots who want to do the low risk low reward gameplay
and now they milk their dying boring pointless as fuck game with early access ships and endless retarded cosmetics
stupid fucking bobble heads
holy fuck i hate modern game developers
>>
>>1988997
I mostly agree that every mission you take is nearly worthless with only a few niche exceptions or squadron loopholes.

But there is one thing you can gear your combat ship for to make credits: thargoid hunting.
I find thargoid combat boring, myself, but your mileage may vary.
>>

>>

kek
>>1989041
yeah ill admit that is a form of combat that apparently makes more money than pretty much anything else in the game i hear but i never really gave it a chance because its a whole bunch of other shit where you need special weapons and shit that arent good at anything else and at this rate ill just go down that rabbit hole just to be disappointed somehow again
i tried it during december of last year and couldnt do shit with the guns that were available to me there, they were fucking pea shooters and it was a joke. at first i was making crazy money plinking thargoids while people with actual AX builds were killing them since id get the bounty as well just for doing minuscule damage, then a few days later the whole community flooded in and got their AX pea shooters and so many were plinking thargoids with those shit guns that you were lucky to find an instance where anyone had any real AX guns capable of killing them and not just fly around wasting your time not getting any kills. it was so retarded and put a bad taste in my mouth for the whole thing i guess
>>
Thinking of getting this since its so cheap right now, dont really care about combat or mining i just want to explore planets and such. Also is there a thread on /vg/ about space games? This board doesnt seem to be very active
>>
I can not get this stupid fucking game to recognize my controllers, they don't even show up in game and I only see keyboard options in settings.
>>
>>1989384
If a general is made for space games it'd just be taken over with NMS slop probably. On /v/ whenever elite gets a thread everyone just piles in to recommend that or X4 as better alternatives.
>>
>>1988986
>>1988997
I find specialized combat ships to be more endgame content. It's pretty easy to get billions of credits while barely trying if you're doing powerplay or bgs. I use my corvette to manipulate faction security levels and influence mostly. When you have tens of billions sitting around you just do whatever you want. There are so many things you can do instead of chasing more useless credits.
If you're measuring activities by how many credits they bring in, you're doing it wrong.
>>
>>1989613
Because they are better. The only reason to play Elite is if you're a sim autist.
>>

star citizen is still so full of fucking bugs and crashes and so far from being done, its criminal
they know its a ponzi scheme and that they will never complete 1% of the promised shit because in order to get money to continue fixing shit they have to invent ships with more kinds of gameplay, then they put a small fraction of that shit in the game causing way more bugs that they have to invent more ships and gameplay ideas to get the funds to keep bug fixing

such a blatant shitty scam
>>
>>1990144
When I tried it last a couple years ago it seemed "fine", just kind of dry and needing content. It did come across as way more immersive than Elite though, just somehow less compelling than the background simulation.

Admittedly I didn't try it for very long so maybe some major jank would've come up.

You ever notice how a lot of trans-coded art has those weird mouth lines to either side of the actual mouth? Like its trying to depict an unnatural mouth parting or duck-face.
>>
>>1991146
How is she trans coded
>>
>>1989886
I meant while doing powerplay/bgs, because I pick up a lot of high value missions at the same station while doing pp/bgs activities and then do a single trip in my cutter to fill them, which can net up to 200m-400m a go. It adds up pretty quickly.
You do need to have the factions allied though, for max payout. But pp increases the speed faction rep increases, plus donation missions give you pp merits as a bonus. You also probably need high trade rank, but you make money so fast that this goes to elite V quickly too. I think I went from elite to elite V in a couple of weekends. Maybe just one.
>>
>>1991097
I would sex
>>1991097
You customize the modules and some of them can be upgraded via engineering. There's some cosmetic ship kits that add additional stuff to the outside of the ship to make it look different but that's MTX. There's also like ship dash bobble heads and stuff like MWO.
>>
>>1990629
Huh. Really? is the range significantly worse than the cutter? Even with the guardian booster? I haven't looked at the engineered specs yet, but it would make sense since it's carrying so much cargo. But the fsd booster is a flat boost so I figured it shouldn't be too bad.
It's not hard to make lots of credits from trading or trade missions anyway. A carrier is pretty cheap. Also, with the new squadron perks, you can get something like a 7.5% boost to mission rewards, which ends up being maybe 10% more profit on trade missions.
>>1991097
Go to outfitting. Finding places to buy good ships/parts can be annoying without using a site like Inara, so that's recommended if you want to save time. Engineering is a bit of a chore but will make your ships a lot more effective. It's not really necessary to use engineered ships to make a lot of money via trading though.
Just remember, never fly without rebuy. (Rebuy cost is listed somewhere on the right screen, first page, I believe.)
>>1991146
I think your brain has already been fully rotted away...
>>
>>1991214
Hips unusually narrow, that mouth thing, nose and eye spacing. Furry appearance is a wild card and not necessarily that by itself but can be a contributing element. Upper torso is also mildly off with the shoulder width and breast size.

If its not trans coded it seems to be mildly androgynous.

This isn't a criticism, but if you drew this all this way I'm curious if you intended all these elements consciously.
>>
>>1981432
I just got this game it seems pretty neato but I did almost rage quit when first landing at a settlement on a planet's surface... I kept overshooting the supercruise and orbiting stages, eventually getting close but dropping into atmosphere too far away from my destination. Think I'm getting the hang but maybe I need to watch a video to see how to do it all smoothly.

I shuttled to a new spaceport to buy a new ship but when I go to take missions I can't see them all. For example it will say combat 12/12 but then when I go to that tab there is nothing there even if I clear filters. Sup with that?
>>
>>1991804
You'll want to enter at a nearly 60 degree angle if you do it the way the devs intended.
Are they greyed out? Otherwise, there seems to be a bug where the mission count is higher than the actual missions, but it should only be a few...

GIVE THEM BACK
>>
>>1991804
A quick and dirty example for reference:

https://streamable.com/dz5kjx

Drop under 200 km/s before entering orbital cruise (i.e. touching the blue circle) and then try to angle yourself so you can drop into glide (i.e. entering the yellow circle) close enough (<100 km) to bring you right on top of your target. If you descend at too-steep an angle (the red stuff in the angle indicator) you forcibly drop out and take damage. You get used to it, it's chiefly a matter of trying to optimize the drop so you don't have to hoof the last few kilometers in normal cruise.
>>
>>1991804
>>1991986
Oh, I forgot, very important, drop speed to <10 km/s before touching the yellow circle. Hitting either the blue or yellow circles too fast will also forcibly drop you to normal cruise, so you gotta manage your speed.
>>
>>1991986
>Drop under 200 km/s
I personally aim for under 100 km/s. If it's a smaller body, going that fast will absolutely slam you into the surface and yank you out of cruise.
>>
I distinctly remember a colonial bridge chain going out about 2k lys from the bubble several months ago, but I've been looking for it today and couldn't find it. Was it another cheater doing it and got his ass banished to the shadow realm by fdev or something?
>>
>>1991986
>>1992248
Personally I just try to keep the eta as close to 6s as I can without dropping under, and enter at 55 degrees. If it's a small body and my ship is fast enough, I often just max throttle after passing the blue line then slam into the yellow line at 90 degrees instead of taking the time to get into position. The last 20km goes quickly.
>>1992273
It's still there but it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. Inara can probably help you pick up the trail. Pick a point 4kly towards colonia and search for stations, maybe. I remember there being a couple of branches from the main line headed towards other points of interest, so the main push might have slowed a bit?
>>

>>
>>1993603
It's a famous mining spot, and there's a mining CG going on.
>>
>>1993812
Oh shit I had no idea lmao. Seems kinda crazy to just stumble across a famous system accidentally.
>>
>>1981432
I know you guys must have dealt with this a billion times but you'll have to deal with it once more. Is this game ONLY good if you're going to no-life it and play it as a main game? It wont ever be my main game but I've seen some videos of mining asteroids and it's kind of enticing especially with the little drones.
I'm ok with it being hard to pick up.
I'm not ok with it being high up-keep. I don't want to lose progress. I don't want to get ganked/blown up like EVE. I just want to mine some rocks when I want to mine some rocks.
>>
>>1994865
The only up-keep whatsoever in the game is if you ever get a fleet carrier (mobile garage) and even then the amount of credits you can earn won't make that a problem anyways.
>>
Where do I go after starting and grinded a bit?
>>
>>1994865
You will never have to deal with another player unless you deliberately go into Open, and you should never deliberately go into Open for any reason other than to intentionally deal with gankers. You can play Solo or in Private groups.

The only thing that has upkeep is Fleet Carriers, which are the sort of endgame thing you only have access to once you have the ability to story way more money than you'll ever need to pay for them years in advance.

I suppose the weekly ARX quota is supposed to entice you to play every week if you want to get aesthetic customizations that only you will ever care about, but you could just... not do that.

So no, Elite is slow and grindy as balls, but it is very much an ideal "jump in and put on a podcast" game that you can drop and pick up again any time you want.

>>1994889
If you're starting up, I'd suggest you make it your medium/long-term aim to be able to afford a Corsair. It's the best do-anything ship right now, so you can use it as a platform for whatever you feel like doing until you can get specialized ships. If you're still in the small-ship affordability range, aim for a Cobra Mk.V for the moment. It's basically a straight upgrade on the Cobra Mk.III, the franchise's Pikachu.
>>
Threads colonies status? You guys are colonizing right?
>>
>>1995651
Working on making credits still. I have bad autism where I reset my account between breaks. But I plan on expanding either Eternal Requiem, Neo-Marlinist Order of Mudhrid (for RP larp, if it gets big enough then maybe it has lore implications in the game), Shambhala Empire Group, Ultima Thule, or Tir Na Nog Dominion. Haven't decided yet.
>>
>>1995651
I'm waiting for the Panther Clipper. No sense doing it at half speed on my Cutter right now. I claimed my system ages ago, and I'm also just kinda waiting to see if FDev throws another curveball on the whole system with another update,
>>

Same. I actually did a lot of colonizing with a T9, definitely not doing any more until I get a Panther. Plus I need to get a fleet carrier still.
>>
>>1995651
I’ve zero interest in colonies because of the distance limitation leading to a string of useless systems until you finally reach the one you want. It’s also just a shitload of boring ass back and forth hauling.
More interested in fucking around with the BGS of existing systems and trolling archon delaine powerplay members. Love seeing their schizo rants on the forums accusing afk farmers; they have no idea what the truth is.

Newbie here, I have a mission that says kill civilians of x faction but x faction has 1 settlement and ive never seen civilians spawn there. What do I do.
>>
>>1996107
Are you sure that's an on-foot mission? That sounds like one of those shitty mission where you need to find a signal source where a bunch of ships are hanging out, or basically just murder any ship that isn't Wanted nor Authority, which counts as civilians.

I honestly don't bother with crime missions. Cleaning up your bounty is too much of an added hassle.
>>
>>1996107
Pro-tip, accepting missions from your ship will give you either missions for space content or special non-Odyssey settlements where its big buildings and drones/skimmers only. Taking missions on-foot from a terminal will give you missions for Odyssey content, like killing regular people or hacking stuff.

>>

Probably Warframe but that's not on the list and I didn't play far enough to try the free roam space stuff, but supposedly there's something like that and it applies since you can customize your ship interior.

You usually don't have those cod-type encounters in any of those games in the middle of nowhere space while also having the other stuff you list.

>btw eve online was built upon it, but chickenshit halfassed: no real physics, autobraking
Eve isn't really different from Elite Dangerous and 99% of other space games with autobraking desu. Similar how you can break speed limit in Elite Dangerous with speed bowling ( because Elite Dangerous engine supports full Newtonian flight) you can do that in EVE. Obviously it was limited because of hard calculations (no MMO can support massive eve battles even in 2025) and gameplay purpose. Ships in eve have momentum. Relative speed, size (signature) and vector matter. The tracking system (missiles use explosion velocity and explosion size for damage calculation cause they never miss/can't crit) is pretty clever. Manual piloting (clicking in space) exist and have it's application in MLG prp pvp/hard pve content. If you think about it eve is just X4 + homeworld in space and has more "realistic" space combat than in Elite. Even speeds are much higher (the combat speed for cruiser size ship is 1-5 km/s). Speedbowling in ED capped around 40km/s in eve you can fly at 100+ km/s.
>>
ive been doing a lot of czs lately, because the money is good. the majority of my kills are deadly rank, master rank, or competent (which is what mine currently is). yet, my combat xp pool hasnt moved an iota. why is that? am i too overpowered for the CZ? am i meant to be moving onto the more intense ones?
>>
>>1998996
lol. And furthermore, lmao

https://inara.cz/elite/logbook/83005/

Combat ranks are a slooooooog to grind, and they get exponentially slower the higher you climb. At around Competent, your xp gain begins to level, and the last two ranks in particular take forever to fill out.

According to Inara, I've killed 10,227 ships in CZs, 2,816 wanted ships outside of CZs, 285 Thargoid Scouts, 270 Cyclops, 68 Basilisks, 5 Medusas and 11 Hydras, and all this got me to the base Combat Elite rank with ONLY 19% of the way to Elite I.

You do get multiple warnings about leaving the starter zone. Easily skipped/ignored maybe.
However
Sol isn't a starter system and you didn't get locked out of it. It's under a Federation permit so you need to ingratiate yourself with the feds first.
Shinny is only for elites so you'll be allowed in when you stop being a shitter.

There is, in fact, a warning. There's nothing in the Pilot's Federation District you might ever want to return to though. Sol isn't even close to it, much less part of it.

Shinrarta Dehzra is also not part of the district. It's locked to everyone until they reach Elite rank.
