You ever notice how the leaves start to turn red during in-game Autumn? That's kinda neat.

Sometimes I wonder if we should talk about things we like about the game just for a change of pace.

I mostly like the new mapping stuff, elevation fixes and lighting.
It's hard to be positive about it though when map tools aren't released so no map developers can take advantage of them.

Who's bright fucking idea was it to give crafting a shitload of needless restrictions?
>NOT ENOUGH LIGHT
Hey nigger I have cat's eyes and can see outside without any light, let me fucking craft.
>NO FLAT SURFACE
I AM STANDING ON A FUCKING ROAD! It's a flat surface MILES LONG!
>>
>>1999425
They should just make it so having optimal set ups give bonuses. That's way more fun than adding restrictions
>crafting on table? Faster and higher quality
is much more fun than
>you cannot craft a baseball bat with nails in it without a domestic table
When realistically that recipe could be done on the roof of a car or on the ground

You should be rewarded to engaging in the immersive stuff rather than punished for it being TOO "realistic". They could do stuff like eating at a table giving happiness, or steal some other shit from Rimworld.

They add a bunch of immersive shit just for the sake of tedium and don't use it to actually make the player enjoy the game. Being forced and being encouraged are different things.
>>
I like playing sandbox on babby mode, finding a car, and then driving around exploring and building as much of a hoard as I can carry. That's what I would want to do in the real apocalypse.

Rimworld penalizes you for eating without a table though
>>

Skill issue
>>
>>1999547
>penalizes you for eating without a table
this is one of the few things in rimworld that really pisses me off. sure I get having all kinds of mental or emotional issues if you just watched your spouse get killed by raiders. but what kind of fucking sperg is going to flip out and start beating the shit out of people they live with because they didn't have a fucking table to eat at (and often they do and just didn't feel like pathing to it).
>>
>>1999832
you know damn well that having to eat off the ground is not the only thing that led them to having a mental breakdown
it's the straw that broke the camel's back
>>
>>1999832
It's just a minus 3 to mood, basically nothing, it's r*dditors who pretend it's anywhere near a big deal. And your colonists all have 3 different stages of mental breakdown, if they're on the first one they're not gonna beat others.

>>1999842
This. You might just take it in stride if your coworker is being annoying, but if that day you're also feeling hungry, thirsty, you had an argument before already, you have a small wound causing you a bit of pain, and you are overworked, then you might just start being aggressive towards the coworker. It's always a compound of issues in Rimworldd.
>>
>>1999832
Some comforts in a life of suffering is nice. But as other anon's laid out it's really not an issue, in the stages of the game it will be happening you're either in the very early game which has a massive moodle buff for low expectations to offset it by a factor of 10, or so late you're part of raiding parties that should already be juiced up through narcotics or other lavish things.
Or your base layout is seriously fucked both aesthetically and in a practical sense.
>>1999609
Maybe that anon cranks up the difficulty.
I can't tell you the last time I've lived longer than two weeks, the big factor stopping me from playing b42 currently is none of the fun turbo difficulty mods have been updated.
And who can blame them when they break every fucking mod twice a month for the most inconsequential shit and no option to roll back a version.

Seriously if they let you select one of the many b42 versions I think mod makers wouldn't be so hesitant to patch their shit.

Kenshi being a game without any ultimate goals yet still being way more fun, just shows how dogshit Zomboid is.
>How many hits can you take in Kenshi at the start?
Oh, not many
>What about end-game stuff?
Well a lot more due to armor and toughness
>Okay so how about Zomboid how many hits can you take?
One?
>And later on?
Still one, anything that provides protection makes your character depressed and you won't be crafting armor anyways
How the fuck did they make a game where IRL days of grinding results in no tangible bonuses?
>>
>>2002122
The main issue with zomboid power scaling is that no matter how much armour you wear you can still dice roll a one hit. And zombies are just pretty easy to just kite or flee from even from second one that you can clear an area with your bum character with just a tool hammer you found and clear it.

In games with little in defined goals there are things that are usually what's fun: developing your character (getting stronger), building things (settlements or structures) or developing wealth, taking out/surviving notably strong adversaries. Zomboid struggles with all of these compared to kenshi. Getting stronger doesn't feel that great because there isn't anything to kill except retardedly easy zombies (which are everywhere anyways). Building strutures is pointless for the most part as you can live in a premade one and making stuff like farms and production feels pointless as a player character needs so little to survive that just looting will sustain you for 100s of hours. And this doesn't even touch on the tedium of raising the skills needed to do it. So compared to kenshi where you can fight enemies to grow your player character (fun) and automate other NPCs doing boring shit like mining and crafting so you can feed/develop larger settlements and fund cool stuff like taking out bounties and factions. Or in zomboid you can personally watch green bars fill up while you try to make a base right next to a fully functional house, so you can farm food (you have 100s of canned goods anyways) so you can... not fight zombies.

Even the chopper event which is the latter can be ignored just by staying inside or roaming around.

A lot of this would be solved by NPCs, friendly and enemy. Or at least special infected or SOMETHING
>>
>>2002138
It's just shit-tier game design where no matter what skills you have, it really doesn't offer you much.
>B-But you can make RAIN COLLECTORS!
Stay near a lake, even a tiny pond is infinite water?
>B-But uhm...Butchery skills!
Catching fish outperforms any hunting, what's next?
>Uhhh more weapon skills more crit chance!
Spears do 1 hit ko's on any crit and start with like a 50% chance to crit at level 0...
>W-Well...Fittness and strength gets higher!
Yeah if you grind them for like an IRL week maybe and fitness is still bugged and increases at a tiny fraction of strength.
>>
>>1999394
>Sometimes I wonder if we should talk about things we like about the game just for a change of pace.
I like realism. I dislike unrealistic stuff.
Example
>old farming unrealistic - bad
>new farming more realistic - good
>there too little guns compared to reality - bad
>you can change the setting to make they ammount more realistic - good
>>
>>2002207
>new farming more realistic - good
You mean 'realistic' in the sense you can't feed yourself via farming and nothing grows because being even a tiny bit out of season=total plant death
That sort of realistic?
>>
>>2002138
>A lot of this would be solved by NPCs, friendly and enemy.
NPCs would not fix it, they'd only make it worse. You're still gonna get dice roll one hit by humans (especially ones armed with guns or powerful melee weapons). They won't interact with developing your character since zomboid's combat only really cares about your skill in the damage calculation, building things is still a stupid idea because of the prebuilt houses and only player structures are destructible (and zombies are drawn to them because they are) and looting will still be plenty to sustain yourself and a bunch of NPCs, there will be just be less to loot eventually as the NPCs magically hoover up loot from locations swarmed by zombies. God help you if you expect any kind of robust automation too.

It's truly amazing, they designed a game where you're intentionally supposed to stop doing the fun stuff.
>>
>>2002448
>NPCs would not fix it, they'd only make it worse. You're still gonna get dice roll one hit by humans (especially ones armed with guns or powerful melee weapons
That's fine. At least it's dynamic and insteresting rather than "random closet zombie jank bites me through all my layers and now my run is over"

All the things you said are challenges that would make the game more interesting. What's more fun? Fighting a human faction of which differ by gear and individual skill which you can only tackle after gearing/levelling up your own character because it's actually hard so you can rob their stash of loot to fund your own faction or... going house to house killing small groups of easy reptitive zombies. OR WATCHING GREEN BAR FILL SO YOU DON'T DO ANYTHING BUT SIT IN BASE.

>>
>>2010151
Something about every mechanic that involves "leave the cell or nothing happens" probably pisses me off the most from respawning to trapping
I genuinely think foraging is a well designed skill and shows how far they've come, but I've yet to use any of the new faggotry because b42 is so fucking fucked
Hope it wasn't a one-off thing that an intern made well and then was fired over
>>

>"leave the cell or nothing happens"
Depending where your base it's not that annoying traps wise. I base myself in Fort Redstone control tower building. And put traps in forest near south-east entrance before going to sleep. One quick spring at morning, take just about half ingame hour and help keep colories down (unlike most players i struggle to not raise the weight).
>>
>>2011504
Amazingly, rabbits, birds, squirrels, etc, do not magically know where humans are, through barricaded doors and walls in real life.

Granted I only played for about 60~ hours with friends but it seemed decently competent and more of fallout 4 if that's what you're looking for.

Biggest complaint we all had was the pitt ran like supreme dogshit regardless of PC hardware and the complete and total lack of quest progress sharing in instanced content. Seriously what the fuck is wrong with the developer letting people join friends instances and NOT get progress because of it.

Who the fuck designs a fishing minigame where the fish magically gains super-strength in the last meter of reeling in, and it cannot tire out EVER?
The most basic of fishing minigames is to make it a back and forth battle of tiring the fish out, its not that hard!
Bigger fish=more stamina

I hate turbo-online faggots so much. Same shit as the celebrities with their "muh death threats" (who are completely invented 90% of the time anyway). If you want to plaster your face or product everywhere, you WILL get some antagonistic comments, don't be a faggot and try to destroy the world over it.

As for TIS, they're lying leftists faggots once again, no one excepts them is masturbating at how many people are in the studio, because that doesn't matter, what does is the quality of the dev. All of Stardew Valley was made by a single guy except for the multiplayer code. Kenshi was developed by Christ Hunt alone for 6 years, Rimworld was developed by Tynan alone for 2 years and now only has 7 developers in total and is still utterly mogging Zomboid by releasing a game-changing DLC every year.

Meanwhile TIS wants us to suck their dick for hiring 50 of their tranny friends when calorie values haven't been fixed for as long as the system has existed.

Oh the horror, there's only like a million liters that NEVER goes off, in various sinks, baths, toilets. Or you know, just live next to a fucking lake and boil the water.

The problem is that realistically, an apocalypse where people are gone but infrastructure is intact and you're not entirely beholden to regular societal rules all of those things are quite trivial to bypass.

Water? Yeah there's shitloads of water everywhere that's free for the taking that will keep for ages, and you can boil or purify whatever you do find that's from a suspect source. Electricity? Might make boiling your water a little more annoying but otherwise irrelevant. Cold? Modern buildings are pretty heat efficient and you can bundle up or use fire to keep warm when indoors and if the electricity is still on you can just run a space heater.

I still don't see how. Human NPCs are just gonna be more chores you gotta do. They're not gonna be anything fun to work with even if you could rimworld colony manage them, because all they'd add is a good way to get randomly shot in the back by friendly fire, dumbasses drawing a bazillion zombies when you're out and about looting and adding +1 for each survivor to the multiplier of calories, water and whatever other loot you need long term.

Zomboid needs to take it's existing mechanics and add depth to them (You know, like more reliable power generation, the water pump thing they lied about prior to the crafting update, weapon/part quality levels to make crafting at least a little deeper) instead of stacking on yet another massive plate they need to balance as well.

I genuinely don't see how NPCs in PZ would work.
>NPCs are just like players
So basically you have a walking zombie beacon who will most likely get in your way all the time, get you or themselves killed by being unable to selectively aggro, exhaust themselves trying to attack one zombie in melee because their weapon is dull, and waste all your ammo shooting at everything it sees the instant they get in combat.
They also eat and grab everything in the map, leaving entire areas empty just by existing.
>NPCs literally cheat to survive
You basically have an automated turret that cleans out entire areas for you while you read a book in the toilets.
(and the devs hate the game being even remotely easy so you know full well they won't do that)
>NPCs as enemies
You get shot from out the screen or stabbed from a blind spot because of the isometric view and randomly die because it hits you in the neck or it caused a deep wound.
>>
>>2021277
Yeah sadly
I guess you could limit what type of guns they can obtain and only allow them to hit you in the legs, arms, and sometimes chest.

B42 had a metric shitload too many zombies, so then they overlaid a 'no zombies' random puzzle above the heatmaps, so that cut out like 50% of the zombies.

This same issue is kind of going on with SCUM, it finally hit it's 1.0 release and after teasing about giving us access to fully mod the game they flat out lied and said they never had modding in mind, the game firmly dropped from a consistently 60k 24/7 playerbase to barely being able to keep 13k active now and they keep pushing garbage tier DLC that modders would clearly run rings around if given proper access, workshop privs, and nonshit in-game server browser.

In defense of TIS, an either-or system (I.E. everyone made a run on high-value targets like gunstores, or everyone holed up and stayed in their homes) would probably work pretty well, and it seems like they were going for that
Unfortunately, their implementation is pants on head retarded and doesn't actually do that
>>
>>2024672
weird they changed it, I honestly feel like build 41 was quite honestly perfect when using mods

now the game is so fucking buggy and weird feeling and I don't think it will ever recover
>shit tier crafting now

>nerfs to old negative traits forcing you to be even more gimp when starting out
>adored old mods probably forever abandoned now since most people don't care for the game anymore
>>

That's not how Zomboid's lore works though and if that were the case the zombies should be visibly loaded with supplies/guns.
In-lore, not that many people actually got turned into zombies until the airborne strain turbo-infected 95% of the world in a week.
>>2024773
B41 had issues as well, where you could wander into the middle of buttfuck nowhere and find a consistent spread of zombies for no reason.
Basically B42 redistributed all the 'random' zombies to hotspots. But this meant the police Station had like 3000 fucking zombies around it for no reason. So the update after that removed a load of zombies. Making a good chunk of the map completely zombie-free.
You know.
In your zombie survival game. Because they're too lazy to program roaming hordes.
>>

>Oh woe is me nothing in life matters! Everyone turned into zombies and you will be dead soon!
>WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU WANT TO SURVIVE!? IT SAYS THIS IS HOW YOU DIED NOT THIS IS HOW YOU THRIVED
You know their entire design ethos is flawed when most characters die of patch-induced incompatibility and glitches rather than actual deaths.
>>
>>2024796
Well I was more talking about it from the POV of being a civilian in the zomboid universe.

Some invisible air born shit just turning everyone into rotting cannibals out of nowhere, millions of people getting insane fevers and sickness to just die and turn all at the same time.

But lonely as fuck if it's exactly like current zomboid where you're the only one.

I can imagine a more horrifying scenario.
Imagine if the world was overtly controlled by ancient blood cultists who literally rape and consume children, and they also controlled all the finances, again overtly.
But they also made it illegal and taboo to talk shit about them so you have to work for 60 years for them, only for them to deny you any form of retirement as they raise it every year.
That'd be so scary IRL.

We're assuming our relatively-young aged, potentially peak-human-strength/fittness characters are akin to a grandmother?
The fact the player can reload and fire guns without forgetting about the safety systems, or not knowing how to load a magazine or whatever, implies the characters have handled guns before.
Otherwise you should get a big fat 'you don't know how to use this lmao' message and have to read a book about firearms.

why not? You just said even a complete retard should be able to hit a moving target from 10 feet away

We got fucking pottery and glassmaking, but no bows or crossbows. I hate commies so much it's unreal. Also a small detail, but I find it so retarded that you can't just get inside your tent, if you're not sleeping, you're forced to stand outside of it drooling. Why (because Lemmy is a lazy faggot I know) can't we get into the tent to protect ourselves from the elements, the cold and being seen by zeds? If only we had non-nigger developers, we could find a typical spot for animals to come drink or walk through, set up our tent and wait there for an animal to pass to shoot it by surprise from inside.
>>
>>2025606
They added sitting animations but animations for laying down just aren't possible for another 3 years.
>>
>>2025614
For a basic implementation you wouldn't even need animations. Just make the character disappear since they're "inside the tent" and disable zeds and animals being able to see you. Guns are designed to be intuitive. Particularly handguns. Anything that's double action, you can just pick up and pull the trigger. As long as there is a round in the chamber it will go bang.
Revolvers are about as retard proof as a can opener. Autoloaders less so, but any normal man living in Kentucky in 1993 would likely be familiar with a Colt 1911 or Beretta 92 as they were not only in use by the military but they were prolific in movies and television too.
You don't need to read a book, or even a manual, to know how to operate them. Insert magazine, rack the slide, pull the trigger. Even a caveman pulled out of a tar pit could eventually figure it out if given enough time.

Fact. It's more fun to shit-talk the game than to play it at this point. B41 is nice but I already experienced everything there, and B42 is garbage. And it's not like it's long to catch up in the threads here, despite the manufactured hyper with thousands of jeet updoots on r*ddit, B42 is fucking dead, nobody cares about it and everyone gave up on it, either giving up on Zomboid for the time being or going back to B41. If B42 was the only possible playable build, the playerbase would fall to 10% of its current level.

>>2027290

You guys have this backwards I think, there were NPCs in one of the newer trailers (this is how I died maybe) that were strongly implied by the context to be MP gameplay, but MP hadn't been remade by that point yet on the anims build so they faked it.

That other, older proof-of-concept video with the soldiers and kate/baldspot couldn't have been MP fakery because the melee users would have actually gotten hurt by the zombies, the vid had zeds tracking but not attacking in order to keep them from instakilling the still-retarded and incompetent NPCs (by their own admission). It's more believable lemmy scripted each of those scenes one-by-one with ultratard NPCs over coordinating numerous people with controllers to mime fluid looking movement. Even this dipshit can get actors to move from coordinate to coordinate if really needed

Mechanics are trained to buy a new one (or JB weld the old one). Welders are trained not to fuck with fuel containers or pressure vessels unless they're specifically trained to work on them.

But it's a video game. The real reason that there's no repair option is that the dev responsible for it took a mental health week when xhe was supposed to implement it, and then forgot.

So, it's simply impossible to starve currently in B42, anyone who do, is genuine retard.
One brown-white cow can give you about 5L+ of milk per day when pregnant. Which already insane and remove need to look for water, as, you have milk that both give colories and quench thirst. But, you can turn 5L of milk into butter that you can eat, if you brainroted redditor, or add in your cooking as seasoning if you are human. If you have some chickens as well, then you can endlessly make stir-fries with eggs and butter, and your colories will be always positive. And if you star to getting too much weight, you will simply stop adding butter for a bit.
Farming = endless food, which is realistic, beside part where milk don't spoil currently, and neither does butter, which wouldn't matter anyway, as long as you keep your cows healty and alive.
