I recommend playing both but I don't know why 2 isn't a full throated "PLAY THIS ONE OVER THE FIRST GAME!!1", as despite the way more limited build options in the first game, there's still stuff in 1 worth seeing/experiencing.
I had a lot more fun in the endgame of Remnant 1 because of the Hell mod.Last I heard the Beyond Hell mod for Remnant 2 was basically dead unfortunately.
Both games were great, I preferred the first one for the sheer boss count, but 2 had some of the best bosses in the series too.
