>>2141926>>2141948I'm actually the one who stumbled on that. I accidentally found it on Youtube used as someone's background music in their video and the video predated the Event Pass. The track in question is Riding the Storm by Deaf Election and they even have a Spotify page.https://open.spotify.com/album/66IeTbMtJrFNe0YL1q9NXkNotice the copyright date on there. 2012. This fucking album is not only copyrighted, it existed long before Paladins even existed and I'm fairly certain Epidemic Sound knew nothing about Lo-rez using it in a literal cross promotion Event Pass which could have been court room rape for Both Lo-rez and Rooster Teeth. This is different from past Battle Passes where they credited artists like Code Taco because this band wasn't credited at all. This company's comical Jewishness really needs to be studied in a lab.

>>2152014I don't get them for Smite anymore either. Lo-rez has been gutted top to bottom. The only people left are the skeleton crew trying to keep shite 2 afloat, and they're only barely scraping by. Even the old boys club of executives/Erez's friends were all laid off.The Roman god of boundaries, Terminus, often depicted as a statue, is added to Smite 2. The wheel turns. The curtain rises on the second act of the great drama.Somewhere, the fallen stagalla smiles.
>>2152093There's allegedly two people maintaining the old games, in addition to the skeleton crew, and some slaves churning out the smite 2 vlogs. All it took to bring the house down was orange man getting voted into power.

>>2153267More likely in this country than you think when your industries are all owned by Kabbalic crypto Boomers who already sold off all the country's worth decades ago for momentary profit. The whole "you will own nothing" thing is more than a meme in in terms of Lo-rez, "You will play nothing" is a reality. You can't really OWN anything if you don't have the means to MAKE it and in the case of this country we have a lot of cleaning up to do with our own industries.Lo-rez is just a more interesting ripple in several companies biting the big one because of those self defeating Boomer ass business practices. Huge companies left and right are tanking and taking all their trash plague rat employees with them. It's almost cathartic because finance, business, politically, morally and logically wise it proves we were right all along. Now lets make another prediction we'll probably get right and guess who's gonna fix all this shit.
>>2153258>>2153267As funny as this would been if it was true, lorez's failures come down to hilariously blatant incompetence, internal politics, and general mismanagement. They were making enough of a profit from their games to keep the lights on. Key word "were".You probably won't believe me, but paladins was absolutely a profitable game, at least up until and during 2022-early 2023, even after lorez had clearly put it on the backburner and gone all in on making new games that were costing them millions of dollars and didn't make a profit, like roco, which was only barely keeping itself out of the red, and dko, which was an outright failure in every way. smite was an incredibly profitable game. I don't know what the game's revenue looked like after early 2023, but I do know that paladins and the people who worked on it were constantly getting fucked over by lorez, no matter how well the game was doing at a given time or how productive and efficient evil mojito was. Internally, they outdid the smite team in certain aspects. smite was the big moneymaker that funded everything else, but it was also the personal favorite among the execs, and it was obvious. What happened is they (especially management,) spent the better part of over a decade betraying, belittling, and burning the people who played and loved their games. I don't need to tell you how dedicated and passionate the paladins community was, but a big chunk of whatever the game made was invested into new games, many of which never saw the light of day, or funding tournaments for smite and roco, instead of being reinvested into paladins. smite was also screwed over badly, but not quite as hard, it was kept afloat by the whales.Turns out, customers don't forget when you shit in their burgers, and lorez is now on life support, because, to the surprise of no one but the now former management, people don't like it when you run the games they loved into the ground.
>>2153564It doesn't help that the now former ceo decided to kill off their only two profitable games wtithout so much as sunset patches for an alpha that is, in the best case scenario, years away from full release, because "it'll be the first moba on unreal engine 5" and "players want a good looking 3rd person moba".Yeah.Now the company has laid off almost its entire workforce and is desperately pumping out smite 2 content as fast as it can, because they're only barely keeping their heads above water. Last I heard they've become profitable enough to hire two new guys, but they're still very unstable and probably always will be in the current gaming market. Even if they somehow become stable, they're probably not going to make another new game.Erez is the ceo again, but he's got his other billionaire vanity project, prophecy, and I wouldn't be surprised if the hi-rez name and ips are considered too damaged now. You're not getting Paladins 2. Sorry. There's a reason why they laid off almost all of the former executives.I know because I used to work at lorez.
>>2153280I'LL NEVER FORGIVE HIREZ
>>2153582Romanova?
>>2153564Trust me, /palg/ knew most of what you noted five years ago. In terms of Lo-rez's patterns of business practices I could've told you this almost 15 years ago. We've seen the GlassDoor reviews too. Things were rough in 2020 but 2021 was the biggest cock slap to the community that took it to the point of no return. The fall off was something Lo-rez couldn't have done to reverse. We've had tons of content producers here mainly VideoAnon who were everything from performance artists to prophets when you consider how much of this they saw coming down the tube. The difference here is we have freedom to say whatever we wanted about the game and its community whereas Redit would ban you (the actual community got hijacked mobster style by Romanova), the official forums would censor you and Twitter was a trash fire infested with deviants and pedos (one of which Lo-rez actually ignored even after showing them the proof of him grooming kids). There are posters here who nailed on the head events that would occur within Evil Mojo years ahead simply by virtue of having common sense and pattern recognition which the people you worked for lacked. Trust me, you don't need to explain it to us, we already know the score but it's still refreshing to see a former employee be so honest.
>>2154412There were, and are, a ton of passionate, talented people working at lorez who genuinely loved the games they made.Virtually no one has anything kind to say about lorez or especially management. There are a lot of people they worked with who they screwed over. There was a lot they didn't follow through on. There are a lot of people who worked with them at one point who no longer wish to be associated with them. Some of the worst management I've ever seen. The internal culture was pretty bad too, like a drunken frat, especially in the older days. There were a lot of cliques, management only listened to a handful of people who kissed enough ass. That said, most people were great, despite it all. There was a lot the thread got right, and a lot it got wrong.Still, it's kinda sad seeing how lo (heh) the ship has sunk, even if everyone knew it was going to end up like this eventually.
>>2154695Any insight on how exactly Thunderbrush got so much creative sway in that company despite being only an Art Director?
>>2154865Most of the decisions attributed to him were things the team as a whole agreed on or encouraged by stakeholders/both.
Once smite 2 leaves beta, everything will be alright.
>>2154695Out of curiosity what did we get wrong about internal things there? It's honestly nice hearing it from a person who was on the inside. And a few other questions. How did Romanova end up staying there so long when she was in constant fights with people on Twitter and would go out of her way to personally attack them and use her business account for questionable issues to talk about? If people were on board with Thunder's changes does that mean other devs/higher ups were also on board with all the demon, furry and borderline copyright court cases with characters like Yagorath? If true, grim.We know they had an epic battle against Syberbolt. Were they also critical or even acknowledged other content creators or people critical of Hi-rez like Raventric, VideoAnon and /palg/ in general?
>>2155252I don't want to risk identifying myself and getting blacklisted if anybody from lorez is poking around here, so I won't really comment on the specifics of the internal studio politics, sorry. As for your questions:>A lot of things were attributed to malice that were, in retrospect, mostly just the results of the dev team not understanding what the playerbase wanted, or plain bad luck.>That's a question for the marketing department.>They sold well. The concepts for champions were decided on by the team and and then approved by stakeholders. There were a lot of whimsical and cartoony concepts that got shot down. "A human, with a gun/an edgy demon, with a gun" was what sold. Boobs sold. The things people online were the most vocal about liking/disliking didn't reflect what people actually bought and played. Pepper sold extremely well. So did the demon Maeve skin. Paladins lost millions of dollars in it's first years. OB64 was a failed attempt to make the game profitable. It only started turning a profit in 2018 after they introduced battlepasses and changed the art direction.>Some of them, yeah.
>>2155442To clarify, I wasn't involved with the art side of things, so I can't speak to the specific details about how things worked there/who did what, but I did pick up some details here and there.
>>2155442>A lot of things were attributed to malice that were, in retrospect, mostly just the results of the dev team not understanding what the playerbase wanted, or plain bad luck. That part I have trouble believing because people were literally screaming into their ears what they wanted 24/7 for years on end. If it was the Community Manager who didn't bring it to their attention then whatever. She sucked.>You want more fantasy themed characters? >Screw all you potential customers, we're only going to cater to what we're already selling regardless of the demand even if you were here first>Stick to the lore? Nah, we're going to just do whatever because we're bored and want to be a parody of already existing franchises>Hire a competent Art Director who doesn't need to trace models?>Sorry, best we can do is years of him hijacking the entire aesthetic of the game and turning it edgy and grungy>mfw even furries were telling them during the Dark Depths Event Pass they didn't want it>Not attributed to malice>Thunderbrush literally shoved as much furry shit into the game just to spite people and even admitted to such several times>Salt literally exists because of malice>You don't want Payload to return>Actually the servers can't handle Payload anymore>It's too difficult to bring back Payload now it just wouldn't work>A single mentally deranged furry modder who literally lived in a mental institution brought it back by himself and was fully playable>Lo-rez devs later take credit for itI respect your need to stay incognito because we have had several incidents of people from Evil Mojo here and even sending their AoC goons to shake things up to so I completely understand it but It's hard for me to believe a lot of what they did wasn't completely intentional especially considering the fact that players only began to get what they asked for years prior after all these key assholes were booted from the company and it was down to a skeleton crew.
>>2155442If pepper sold well then why did we stop getting furry skins and champions? We had years of mostly humanoid champions with the same handful of themes and personalities and those didn't bring in many new players, so you'd think adding the occasional whimsical lizardman or frog creature or something would at least get people to look into the game.

Checking back on /palg/ to see how things are going. I hope everyone had a good holiday season. Still miss the game. Going to give Deadlock a try as a 'shooter but MOBA.'>>2153564Could be easily bait. But still inflicted emotional damage reading this shit.I had the idea to compare Paladins and Smite 1 & 2 on Steam charts. I know its not a complete census of player counts.>Paladins has a higher all time peak than Smite 1 and 2 COMBINED>Paladins drop off was gentler than Smite 1 and 2.>Paladins and Smite 1 currently close in player counts.>Smite 2 currently only a couple thousand more than Paladins.>Smite 1 peaked during covid.>Paladins peaked in 2016 and slowly declined, smaller bump during covid.>Smite 2 peaked with their F2P update, which is closer in shape to Paladins player curve. There's vindication seeing that the games Paladins was sacrificed for are nearly as dead as Paladins is now. It literally was all for nothing. There's pain in seeing that the Paladins playerbase had the potential to be just as, if not more, profitable than Smite. It's not even like Metroid/F-Zero/Earthbound fans having to accept their interests are too niche for Nintendo to cater towards. This would be like Zelda getting gutted to fund the next Mario Kart.>>2171030Can Deadlock host community servers with mods that alter gameplay?
>>2173256paladins had a bigger playerbase and more mainstream reach than smite did, but smite was the game that brought in the money, and they always assumed they'd have smite to fall back on. A big chunk of paladins players came from countries like latam and russia and didn't spend money on the game. Smite was a moba which meant it had moba whales. At the end of the day these games were running on ancient engines that nobody knew how to work with anymore, but the people in charge went chasing pots of gold at the end of every new rainbow instead of investing in their only successful IPs, then the smite cash cow starting making less milk, and now we're here.Personally, as much love as I have for paladins, I can't help but have my doubts about a theoretical paladins 2 being able to survive in a hero shooter market currently dominated by ow2 and marvel rivals, two games with infinitely more polish and budget than lorez could ever put together. Maybe someday if/when space opens up for a third.

>>2174930>Almost unanimous ridicule for a game that was supposed to be the "big reveal" of the game awards.>Already being compared to games like Concord, Lawbreakers, and other flops>despite releasing this month, the game has been almost radio silent. No teasers, nothing.I don't actually know how bad/good the game will be, but the people making it evidently didn't expect such a negative reception and seem kinda lost on what to do.>>2171220Terminus shall spread yet again.
Speculation: How have you guys handled the complexity of Paladins and its alternatives in shooters/mobas?For me, part of what's difficult about other mobas/shooters is when there's 50 champs with different kits and match-ups to memorize, plus an item shop with numerous trinkets with stat buffs you don't fully know the significance of, and the autobuyer builds might be shit.LoL, Smite, Marvel Rivals, Deadlock, etc.By comparison, Paladins felt much easier to get used to.However, towards the end of the game, I kinda stopped learning the newer champs and only vaguely knew how to fight them. I mainly stuck to my older champs. This started with Tiberius, and after him, the only exceptions where I gave a shit about a new character was Yag, Rei, and Betty.Proposed explanations:>Aging.>Less time to play.>Some of Paladins complexity was in the loadout builder you used before a match, allowing you to take your time learning.>Overlapping roles and kits naturally make newer champs redundant. Like, what does Omen give me to learn him that the game's first 5 or 10 damage champions don't already offer?>Every layer of complexity was simple enough to fit on 1 screen at a time. At any time, the choices you had to make were always all on screen to streamline decision making.>Every card in the builder fit on 1 screen. >The character selection menu fit on 1 screen. >All 3-4 talents fit on 1 screen. >Your 6 loadout slots fit on 1 screen.>The item shop fit on 1 screen.>Paladins was the last game that made me unlock champs with currency, which may have forced players to take more time learning individual champions and restricted information overload. The industry may have quietly dropped this mechanic after Overwatch 2's battlepass controversy. So newer games give you everything from the start which is overwhelming.>TTK impacting how much time you have to react to unknown enemy abilities.
>>2174585I'll buy one. And then when people ask wtf I'm wearing, I'll drop the 2 hour lorez lore dump on how they fucked up Paladins.>>2155442If the 'lorez employee' anon is still here, is there any sense of how long servers will be provided. And after servers shut down, what will be the end state of the game?Best case scenario: The entire source code / UE3 project folder for the client and server are open-sourced.
