Yeah I like the red and black vans in the shop but $9 for a pair of e-shoes is too much for even me. I'm down to put like $20 in the game a season if there's cool stuff to buy but they really try hard to not get people's money with the wack shit they cook up and the retarded prices on a lot of it.
Despite a lot of frankly ridiculous problems with the game I enjoy it a lot, even the city isn't QUITE as bad as people make it out to be in my opinion. I just want the game to last until they implement create-a-park and some other stuff so cracked clients and private servers have a good base to work with. I don't have hobbies that cost much or really any money, even the games I play are mostly old shit or cheap indies and I even stopped eating fast food recently. $25 for a game I've spent 250 hours in already is really not anything I'd spend a second thinking about without a bitch in my ear telling me it's nasty.

Unfortunately that's just not an option we're offered or would ever be offered in the current state of the game industry. Just look at Battlefield 6 for what a "normally released" game looks like from EA anymore. $70 base cost, paid DLC, paid battlepass seasons, separate Battlefield Pro subscription, then on to Battlefield 7 in a couple years. All while not having the content a standard Battlefield game should have at launch among all the other modern game problems. I'll honestly take what we have for skate.

there are legit many art styles like that one. Many people now just point at any pixel that looks out of place and scream AI. Not everything needs to be perfect, there are mistakes and there are choices. Sometimes artists choose to keep the mistakes.

Exactly what I did is before I did the fliptrick, I did a revert, its still a hardflip, and then allows your thumbstick to be already near where it has to be, and remember, when you land the first grind properly, just input a normal ollie, because youre already in position, any adjustment will move you and land in a different grind

I tried that big megaramp down the side of the building that has you wallride down the windows, I tried the challenge that has you ride down the side of a brick building, and I tried the drop-in down the side of that building with the mega ramp pool on it in the NE of the map. none of them worked.

Game desperately needs content, they may have to redo all the missions, I know some of the new handplant missions showed what appeared to be a ghost mimicking the tricks so possibly they're going to make the NPCs actually appear in game.

Its wild that even something like steep and riders republic does better for content despite being soulless in other ways.

Highly doubt the game will have the changes it needs, it's the same since the closed beta. Even the "new" tricks are the same they tested.
Their community management, especially on steam, gives away not only that but also that they don't really give a fuck.
Even when the devs were more approachable in the closed beta days you could see this, which is really unfortunate. The whole loop you mentioned will be there until the game dies, and internals says it will be soon, probably before the new road map hits.

I don't think they thought about that change at all honestly it was probably just collateral damage in the replay editor update. I agree it was nice to be able to change cameras while playing back with that, it actually made for some pretty nice, simple, fast clips if you used it well. Follow cam then switch to tripod at the end of a line going down a gap or something, etc.
I've been playing here and there still but most of the time when I do a cool trick I'll just watch it back once then close the replay editor instead of going through the whole song and dance. Also had some cool ideas for tricks that I can't quite execute.. mostly skill issue though if I'm being honest I think.

It looks cool, I'll keep an eye on it. I've got really high standards for animations in skate games and many of the ones I've seen in this game look kinda bad. Animation editor is a neat and novel idea but I sure as fuck am not a professional animator, and I think it's something that really pushes it more into the "simulator" territory instead of "game". Don't get me wrong I put a few hundred hours into SXL and Session but I just prefer something that flows like skate period anymore. Seasonal events are nothingburgers, a handful of lame cosmetics (mostly stickers and profile icons/banners) that you have to grind lame challenges at lame parks for. Finally got around with tinkering with RPCS3 settings to make Skate 2 playable. Still not great but not compounding with natural Skate 2 jank to make me rage anymore. Anyways Skate 2 is like a hole in my memory for some reason, I barely remember any of it except for how clunky the off board movement and a couple other things are, and The Res (is that the name of the beginning district?) which I always disliked.
Fucking Old Town in this game is insane. Like so dense with such fun looking little spots and dope plazas and other banger spots. Love the architecture and stuff too, just a great district. Just heading to downtown to (re)scope out, stopped at Lighthouse Skatepark and I gotta say it too is really sick. Skate 2 chads were right all along the city in this game is amazing I need this shit in nuskate badly.

I always preferred the city of Skate 1 compared to 2; 2 does have more variety with the mountain and waterfront areas, though The Res was always too blocky and confusing for me (I just remember big concrete blocks with hundreds of stairs) and some of the replacements (Boneyard over the Gallery/Regs area) never felt as good.
Skate 3's maps are fiiiiiiine for the most part but splitting them up always annoyed me. Just causes a worse flow to the game.

When they passed a query at DICE asking what random devs there thought about cosmetics and even the beaner janitor said the crop-tops were cute and they went with it instead of listening to normal people, I knew it would die quickly. When BF6 needed a speedup, the whole rented talent went there and FC only had one (1) good guy and a bunch of vibe-coding linkedin shitters progressing the game.
They had a big boom when they released (and tracked-back from 'full release' to 'early access') but the finances were really bad and they never got back from that. They won't ever do a park editor because that would imply private servers or (at least) an instance for each individual player. Not only you have several servers for each instance of San Van, you also have separate servers for the tutorial island and there are already servers for the Island of Grooming.

I prefer the animations in 4 by a lot personally but I can't say the ones in 3 are bad, just a style I don't like as much as the style they animated in 4. They both have some big stinkers though. In 3 it's a lot of grinds, especially nose grinds and ESPECIALLY crooks, powerslides feel like shit (I think I saw someone say they're the best in 3 lol). In 4 it's the general carving around and a handful of other things (footplants, exiting lip tricks, some grabs)
I'm replaying 3 again after like a decade recently too. The city districts are as shit or possibly more shit than I remember them. I'd still really like them ported into the new game though, still some spots here and there that'd be cool especially with the better controls and more tricks of nuskate.

At least speaking for myself I think it's mainly the bad first impression from The Rez or whatever that slummy first district is called. Not that I stopped playing there but I think I let it paint my whole judgement of the city. And as I said I spent the least amount of time on 2 by far. I was hooked right from the initial marketing of Skate 1, read all the blogs from Cuz and Scott Blackwood, probably clocked a hundred hours or more on the demo alone. I can't remember if 2 had a demo but I remember playing one for 3 a lot, then of course being the last in the original series it had a ton of time to linger plus the community for created parks as I've mentioned before (Fluck-It) really elevated the third for me at the time.

The Rez was fucked in Skate 2. Just kind of bland concrete structures.

The Skate 1 demo was amazing, 30 full minutes of just skating the GOAT community park. Skate 2's was a bit awkward, you'd start with like 10 minutes and get extra for doing the missions in Slappy's so you could get up to I think 20 minutes? I'll try to take a couple shitty clips to show it off. The spillway is like 1 minute to run from top to bottom. Has a little side section with some big vert but main ends go to that big long ditch halfpipe that goes off on an angle kinda into the water. The new stuff is mostly the spillway and stuff along it but it's pretty neat, has a bunch of little industrial type spots in addition to the yuge gaps and stuff.

Not sure why the little bridge unloaded at like 0:16 (and one before that, probably my aging computer). The hole to the left you can see there is mp4 related, just off the path by some bend in the road above. Will show the lower spillway where I end here in another clip.
At like 30 seconds in the streamable thing you see that fork area, all 3 main routes go to the same halfpipe. You can kinda see more to the far right, just a little mellow spot with an entrance to the lower spillway. With the old stuff that gets kinda hidden from you in the tutorial and these new additions the island is overall pretty sick in my opinion.

Seriously.. massive loss to not just let everyone in for free. Especially with how pitiful the actual new spot is in the city. The game needs new spots every 3 months, at least til it builds up a nice library of content to skate. I think a huge city like Skate 2 doesn't really work in an always online game like this, you could be free skating in it with 99 other players in your server and run into none of them. But the game has been out for 6 months and the only new area they've developed is just a portion of this island, everything else was already done before release. Another thing I'll give them props for is that the store has really reduced the FOMO by a ton. Anon mentioned it before but just about all the SVB stuff is just in the store with no timer or anything through the "essentials" pages. There's the Featured bundle that's here for 2 weeks, a couple other bundles here for 1 week, bunch of gestures for a month, quick drop objects for the season. I'm not saying it has to be something this big each month, I honestly think the amount they added last season was pretty decent. The tunnel kinda sucked and the roofs were hit or miss but like the amount of new spots was good for a 3 month update. A whole island like this could be like a once a year or 9 months thing.
And as far as a bigger city, they'd have to have a better more seemless instancing/matching thing which is probably far beyond their capabilities. Something that basically moves you between servers seemlessly in the background without you noticing, so when you're in Old Town it puts you in the server with a bunch of other people in Old Town etc.

If they really, really want to keep the main map, they should actually divide the districts and make them extremely distinct from each other. Overhaul them individually, if needed. "Release" brickswitch since I think it's the most unique district and then re-release each of the other ones for the next couple months.
They mentioned previous games' spots, I'd go full meta and do a disneyworld thing. "Here is the University District from Port Caverton as its own island, go have a blast and use your skater eyes" and fuck it.

Also the lootboxes are even more useless now with the new shop thing. Just get rid of them and make a shop for the unbranded stuff with ripchips.

Probably still act as like the main hub sort of thing long term with other "districts" being through a bridge teleport or ferry. What's crazy is how slow they are with releasing these sorts of things, they have the mesh for socks, why don't they at release already have 10 basic flat color options for socks available (even if some are paid), why in season 3 are we still seeing alternate color options as new releases for an existing mesh?

Popless tricks looked kinda janky in their own way, they need to give us settings or some sort of control to pop tricks appropriately low out of grinds that isn't a glitch. Same with double grinds, you could only really do them on specific spots because it was abusing angles and seams for the most part. Not saying it's great to remove options but I'm not really missing these much to be perfectly honest, and it seems like this stuff is just collateral damage from doing improvements to intended features like bumping out of most grinds looks better now. My only gripe is that it's hard or impossible to control which way you spin going out so trying to come out fakie without popping looks bad.

If you flip into a slide on a ledge, you often explode and is launched away. I'm not sure if it's related to distance relative to the ledge or to the corner of such, but it happens. Also, especially on Isle of Grom rails, your slides and some crooks continue after the rail ends.

Yeah it could have been a pretty free win for them at least as far as community favor goes, most likely would have brought in more bp sales too just because the sentiment around the game wouldn't be nearly so bad, way more people would come back to try it.
Unrelated but it kinda dawned on me that it's kinda funny they finally caved to the idea of putting "legacy" spots in the game the same week they announced layoffs. It's like as soon as they got some pressure on their team they decided the obvious easy choice was finally okay. Seemed like something they were against before with the way they'd adamantly insist they're not doing a sequel, it's not a remake, etc.

to be fair, they have had 'legacy' spots since day 1. the Rolling Waves park has a bowl lifted straight from Skate 1, and I've seen a few other spots around the map from the past games. the closed beta map had a recreation of Skate 1's community centre too.

I actually think the fun city map had a ton of chopped up stuff from the old games, which honestly makes sense for testing a remade engine etc. And yeah there are a couple spots in game. Particularly ones that were real life spots to begin with, like hubba hideout at one end of the cut, 3rd and Army (aka 2nd and Navy in Skate 3), I feel like some smaller features around the city are assets from the old games too. I mostly expected that sort of thing but assumed they weren't going to put a whole ass thing like the entire community center into the live game before but now it's on the table for sure.

They added icons to show what people are doing. The orange diamond is the symbol for challenges so obviously it means they're in a challenge. Little camera symbol if they're in a replay, one for AFK, etc. Nice for social people to know if you're actually sessioning with someone or if they're in a challenge and don't even see you, or if they're busy for a party invite, etc.

it feels like full circle has leaned away from "realistic" gravity and slams in favor of hang time. replaying skate 3 only made it that much more apparent how little weight there is here in skate(dot).

No, I think that's something that's been happening since the closed tests, not only season 3. Poles and ledges have "walls" and you're glued to them sometimes. On poles, if you ollie over them gravity somehow bends and your character literally gravitates around it before settling in. On ledges, since forever sometimes your character seems to try to wallride it instead of settling into a grind/slide and I've been getting the throw-off bug since forever, especially if you try to flip in or flip out of it.
I think the specific thing that's been happening in season 3 is related to the "smooth grind out" thing they are trying. I'm sure everyone here noticed, sometimes your scoring ticker goes crazy when you're grinding or sliding, showing you're doing a fuckton of grinds within a second, so I think the engine is detecting multiple grinds and trying to put you out of them and somehow that explodes and pushes you away.
It's just speculation, there's certainly a better explanation.

Though I do think they do not have a QA that actually plays the game in all its capacity. They're probably relaying on people like us now.
