What caused this powercreep?
Are the items or stats overinflated nowadays or is it just the enhancements trees?
If it's the enhancements tress does that mean that if I don't use them I'd be able to experience what DDO was like back then?
>>
>>2158987
Considering that common gear from Feywild and Ravenloft handed out for free is just as good as rare items from raids, probably that.

>>
>>2158987
There's a lot that happened over the course of 20 years.
Heroic Durability is a free feat that gives all characters bonus HP which didn't exist back then.
Enhancements were completely overhauled to make them stronger than they were back then.
Items themselves, both random loot and named gear, went through several overhauls to make them much stronger than they used to be. As an example, Cannith Crafting's progression for Abilities (ie. STR, CON) goes +1 at level 1, +2 at level 2, +3 at level 4, +4 at level 5, +5 at level 7, +6 at level 10, and this is what you get from randomly generated loot nowadays as well.
Compare that to some ancient named loot: Gauntlets of Ogre Power were +4 STR gloves that you couldn't wear until level 9. That's it, no other enchantments on them. Charged Gauntlets and Cloak of Summer are both +4 STR at level 5, with multiple other enchantments on them.
Kundarak Warding Bracers were ML9 raid gear with +3 CON, +3 Resistance, +3 Protection. Today you can cannith craft level 4 bracers with +3 CON, +3 Resistance or Protection, and if it has at least 1 Blue Slot you can use an augment for the other stat.
Unless your Rogue found good random loot in chests/on the auction house, they were probably only rocking a +5-+7 Disable Device item, these days it's pretty simple to farm Death House for +12 to all your trapping skills. +5 Thieves Tools are also far more common.
Feats are more powerful than they used to be (for example Mobility gives +2% Dodge, when it used to basically just be a tax feat for people who wanted Spring Attack)
Classes themselves have recieved new innate features they didn't used to have, such as Second Wind on Fighters and Domains on Clerics.
PRR and MRR now exist, giving everyone damage reduction they never used to have.
Casters do more damage because they added Spellcraft as a skill.
Anyone with Guild Buffs is recieiving a marginal benefit to several areas of their character.
And there's probably more I'm forgetting.
>>
>>2159110
That sounds pretty sad.
>>
>>2159110
So... what are we supposed to do now? Does the game only starts for real when you reach epics then?
>>
>>2159121
Back then most people only ran on Normal, maybe they bumped it up to Hard in a full, balanced, well coordinated group.
These days with all the added power, running on Elite is generally fairly balanced for first lifers, while Reaper 1 provides an actual challenge. If you still think things are too easy, you can bump that up to R4 or R5 and see how long you survive.
>>
>>2159150
>Ah yes, the game can be challenging and fun but it's paywalled unless you reincarnate twice.
This shit has pissed me off to no end for 20 years. I appreciate that they at least gave us an option in TR, because I wouldn't be playing if they didn't, but god damn it's such an outdated retarded design decision. I guess VIP would completely dry up if they got rid of it though, pretty big selling point for first life characters.
>>

good to see they added a dialogue option for characters with only 6 INT.
>>
>>2159159
I don't have access to their internal sales data so maybe I'm just talking shit.
But this seems like such a dumb business deal, the person who reincarnate are people who are stuck to the game so they would be the best target for VIPs not the people who are starting out.

Ravenloft is the best expansion in the game in my opinion, followed closely by Sharn. Feywild is just okay. If nothing else Ravenloft gives you a free top tier weapon that can carry you to epics, where the epic version of it can replace it.

But the dungeons are good too. Invitation to Dinner is one of my top five favorite dungeons.

Feywild gear can last you from 5-15, if not 5-20.
Feywild's tree you unlock can help pure CHA melees/gishes like Bard (Swashbuckler doesn't have CHA to Hit), Sorcerer (EK doesn't have CHA to Damage), Warlock (Enlightened Spirit gets neither), and Paladin who would otherwise need to invest in another stat like STR or DEX for their melee attacks.
Feywild's heroic and epic set bonuses are modular; while other sets strictly require 3 or 5 pieces to work, Fey sets start working at just 2 pieces and each additional piece gives another bonus.
Crown of Butterflies giving you permanent Crown of Summer (10 Melee Power, 5 Ranged Power, 15 stacking Healing Amp) is fantastic for anyone.

Ravenloft's weapons can take you from 10-29 where you can swap to the epic version of the same weapon, and they hand you a free Sentient Jewel each life to get to work on those.
Ravenloft's level range is much a more favorable area; it's much easier to get from level 5-10 than it is to get from 10-15.
Ravenloft's tree you unlock is mostly only for Dagger/Kukri builds but there is some low hanging fruit that everyone can use like Negative Energy Absorption.
Ravenloft lets you slot in Freedom of Movement at level 10 to ignore annoying things like Hold Person, as well as Lesser Displacement for a slightly better Blur.
Ravenloft's quests are among the best in the game.

I'd personally go for Ravenloft. While the lower level gear in Feywild is nice, being able to skip annoying shit like Threnal/Restless Isles/Necro 3 and just run Ravenloft at those levels instead, plus getting FoM for all of your characters is just too convenient for both TR trains and for altaholics.

wat
Are you saying that I, as a lvl 15 that haven't done Chill and have a generic +5 drop weapon, can go breeze through some low lvl quests and get a weapon that will be better than anything I can get before hitting lvl 20? Because that's what it sounds like.
>>
>>2160772
>Feywild's tree you unlock can help pure CHA melees
wait is there a catch or can I get CHA as my weapon scaling for just 3 AP? is the familiar immortal?
>>
>>2160835
Mists, not Chill.
Run Into the Mists, the speak to the guy by the wagon in the wilderness for a free Barovian Weapon. +5, Silver, Holy 3, Fiery 3, Undead Bane 3. Shreds through undead, and Silver+Holy lets it DR break for all sorts of Devils and Demons.
You can also get Macabre weapons from the last 4 quests/looting Talismans from any chest in the wilderness or quests and trading them at one of the inns. Macabre are +5, Evil 3, Chilling 3, Human Bane 3, and Vampirism so it's great to clear out a bunch of humans, or to heal from chip damage.

Sharn weapons are a slight step up at level 15; +5, Adamantine, Holy 4, Electric 4, Construct Bane 4 but I don't find them strong in a meaningful enough way to craft them to replace the free Barovian ones.
>>
>>2160902
CHA to hit requires 3 total.
CHA to damage requires 7 total.
Your familiar can't be damaged or dispelled.
The biggest catch would be you need Magical Training to spend points in Feydark, which pure Paladins don't naturally get unless you spend a feat on it, or get it from an Epic Destiny.
>>
>>2160909
I'm amazed by the build variety in this game and at the same time disappointed by the fact 90% of the builds literally do not work until epic levels and they never tell you that.

What's the difference between an expansion and an adventure pack?
The wiki is pretty vague about it, but I'm getting the impression the only difference is that expansions also gives you some cosmetics and a new race or class.
>>
So, overall thoughts so far?
>>
>>2162403
good game but fuck the power crept difficulty and mandatory snoozefest difficulty modes
>>
>>2162413
Both of those are solved by paying for vip for a single month. You get everything unlocked, plus 500 points and by the time it runs out you'll have unlocked many things naturally.
>>
>>2162278
She can just b herself around me desu, I'm okay with that.
>>
>>2162403
It's... different. What I hate the most is how almost every mod comes with 6+ different prefixes of varying rarity, but they all do the same because they're not allowed to stack otherwise. It's D2LoD tier affix bloat that makes it borderline impossible to find random drops that aren't vendor trash.
>>
>>2162331
VIPs get all adventure packs for free
adventure packs generally have fewer than 10 quests, while expansions generally have about 14 quests
adventure packs are added to the store right away and can only be bought with DDO Points
expansions start in the DDO Market and can only be bought for IRL money for the first few months, then are put into the DDO store later to be bought with Points
Expansions when bought in the Market come with additional content like races and monster manuals and higher tiers come with cosmetics, additional bank slots, Tomes for each character, and infinite use teleport items. The DDO Store version only comes with the quests+wilderness, no added bells and whistles.

dei hires at stonewall games or whatever. yeah back in the day this game was unbelievably fun. way more fun than classic wow is compared to retail wow is today. like old school 2006 through 2010 ddo is basically the coolest funnest game ever made. the only thing the new version of ddo has on old ddo is content. about 100 billion new quests vs the limited selection of quests back in the day. but the gameplay was so much better, its hard to put it into words, but the power levels were correct, and the cursespewing, vorpal, disruption, paralyzing, smiting, wounding, puncturing ect effects all the effects in the game were straight out of the 3.5 player's handbook or other source material, because it was made by white men who knew "balance" is a jewish term. then after about 2011 the white guys took their profits, quit, (just like in 2009 with wow wotlk) and the company hired cheap dei green haired white male hating lesbians because the new hip thing was being mad at white people because obama just got elected. any other questions?
>>
oh yeah and jump skill was uncapped. so if you had like 105 jump skill you could literally just jump over many of the invisible walls and not invisible walls into out of bounds areas. then the dei green haired lesbian hires "fixed" that around 2011

vip doesnt unlock the 11+ "expansions" which are $40 each and have the best items in them. thats modern ddo today. before it went free to play, a product of smart dei green haired lesbian marketing, it was a $15/month subscription or you just cant log in
>>
>>2161549
yeah part of the difference is the meta gaming trends in modern day. back in 2007 ect just the novelty of being in an online mmorpg was entertaining by itself. hanging out in the leaky lobster and chatting and pvping at like lvl5 was entertaining, most people werent even concerned about speed levelling ect, it was a computer game and there werent "goals" the goal was to play it
>>
>>2160741
nope :) ui hasnt changed since 2011. i hear its because of "spaghetti code" but all that means is their dei hires dont actually know how to program anything. their quests and dungeons must all be made from an in house editing program left over from the white guys who originally programmed this game

Admittedly it's a retarded, outdated paywall but I appreciate that there is a f2p option to bypass it after doing two heroic reincarnations. It's certainly not perfect but it's better than what was offered before reincarnations were a thing.

Anyway to the vets: I'll be reincarnating fairly soon I think and I want to run a stick monk tabaxi, is the quickstick build still viable or is there something else with dragonlord? I want to make sure it's a predominately monk life because I'm working towards class completionist and would rather run rogue with inquisitive and dragonlord just straight.

was mildly interested in tagging along on one of these, but if mmodventure is a bunch of leftist tranny worshippers I'll pass. Dudes main point was that standing stone hired a fuckton of retarded dyke neolibs that fucked things up, which is fucking true. Except none of that is true, most of SSG are the original devs from Turbine, and they're all... old white dudes. Trannybel was fired for her TRANSgressions, shut the fuck up and go away.

I will say the fact that all of DDO's expansions having spots on the leveling path and having epic level content is extremely clever and I really wish more MMOs did that. It adds a ton of variety to the leveling process and means I don't have to do fucking Delera's tomb ever again. Worth every penny spent on Saltmarsh, Feywild and Isle of Dread.

Inhabitants of Xen'Drik, I invite you to join in on the MMOdventure voting procedure. No Fortitude save required, though a high Will is recommended. Reflex is optional.

Here's how you apply:

Anons that already participate in this current round of voting don't need to do anything and will receive the next token automatically.

Any anon that has not yet applied for a voting token can do so by following this procedure:
>screenshot your character and character information window, see pic related
>attach this screenshot to an email addressed at mmodventure@proton.me

You will then be added to the token mailing list and can participate in future MMOdventure polls.
The verification screenshot can be from a previous MMOdventure title.

please be sure to use any email provider that can:
>read mail
>send mail
>attach jaypegs to a mail

The voting process will look as follows:
>receive your unique token link via email, one for each round of voting
>cast your vote in two rounds of voting that will be held to determine our next game
>njoy results

So straighten out your cloaks, saddle your hoerse, should you have grinded for one, take a screenshot as described and send your verification picture to:

From all the MMOs I've played DDO is definitively the one that would benefit from private servers the most.
Hope it happens, it was a nice ride.

>>2170237
>Hope it happens
It'll never happen unless DDO goes under, and even then it's questionable anyone would understand the spaghetti code. The OG Turbine-turned-SSG devs barely know what's going on when issues arise, and they were the ones who developed the damn engine.

But you have to put a point in Open Lock before you can actually use it. Does eating the book count as putting a point in, or will it just be a +1 bonus that stays hidden as long as I don't have an actual skill point in the skill?
As for the other bit, the way I read things you have to eat skill books in order. 1 -> 2 -> 3 etc. Can't go from 0 -> 3.
>>
>>2177377
this is good if you have really low latency
>>
>>2170237
correct, a modular customizable level 20 private server with all the new quests from the modern client would be cool, with unchanged, straight from the rulebook weapon and armor effects ect.
>>
>>2177750
Just checked, it looks like trained skills (anything with n/a) won't apply the bonus if you don't have points in them. I have a +3 tome on open lock/disable device and it still says n/a on my current life, but it definitely applied when I ran a dark hunter who was trained in those skills.

And no, you can absolutely go from 0 to +3. Pretty much all of my skills are +3 from tomes gained in epic sagas.

Way too many design choices that are retarded for the sake of it. Having a gorillion different versions of the same affix because they're not allowed to stack is one of the most egregorious ones. If they can switch to mana instead of memorized spells, they can also let affixes stack.
>>
>>2194232
You're supposed to slowly improve it every time you reincarnate.
>>
>>2194318
I enjoy it, Feels more like an ARPG with weird gearing limitations than an D&D flavoured RPG.

Feels like you need some expansions to have fun, particularly the expansion trove. I can't fathom doing epic levels without menace or shadowfell conspiracy. Get it on sale never at full price JFC $59.99 for ten year old content what the hell

DDO store sucks ass. Its format sucks, the fact that it sells straight up character power sucks. The fact that it's extremely difficult to know what's worth buying without consulting multiple guides and there's a lot of shit that only benefits the buying character when the bullshit should be account wide is shitty.

I'll probably play it for a few months. the concept of character Reincarnation tickles my autism something fierce.

To add to this, the ransack system is bullshit.
What the fuck is the point in having named loot in a non-raid dungeon if you only have ~6 shots per WEEK to actually get the drop. I'm fine with it affecting xp, but it should not affect loot so those who actually want to complete a set or get a specific drop can do so at the cost of getting zero xp.

inb4
>akshually it's 8
Named doesn't drop if the ransack penalty takes the dungeon below the required level for the named.

This is what keeps me playing, the only thing I dislike is making a build that ends up being kinda dogshit or boring and then forcing myself to at least hit 20 with it.
>>
>>2194318

Aight, but I am busy, sadly, but I might make some time this weekend.
>>
>>2194232
That quest is 16 years old. Literally from Update 1.
The upgrade is just 15 intimidate and deception, it's not worth it at all.
>>2194945
It is 8, the ransack penalty doesn't remove named items from the chest lists until after the 8th time you've opened the chest. I've pulled dozens of named items on the 8th chest.
>>
>>2196062
Sounds unlikely when ransack lower the drop levels to less than what the named requires, but you have no doubt played longer than me so I'll take your word for it.
I know what the bonus is and I can actually use it, despite how minor it is. I should be able to upgrade a fucking leveling weapon in a reasonable time frame and not the 2+ fucking weeks it's going to take me because of ransack bullshit.
>>
>>2194232
the ddo crafting design is designed with the idea that at that level that would be the highest level at the time and "outleveling" it is not a thought during the design of that crafting system. house cannith lvl 19 crafting, greensteel, dragoncrafted armor ect all was implemented when that was the max level. oh you outlevel it? ok well now you can do the next area's crafting system, or at least try it out before you outlevel it. even with no xp tome no xp % bonuses at 3rd life reincarnation you can easily outlevel these crafting systems by just doing their related quests and explorer areas in order to farm the raw materials for that crafting system. its well known and has been well known ever since level 16 greensteel in like 2009
>>
>>2196188
That doesn't mean the system isn't stupid. Craftables that get relegated to leveling gear should have mat reqs nerfed so they can actually be made while they're relevant. As of now, you're better off either not bothering with crafting at all or save whatever you happen to stumble upon and use it for twink gear every 3-4 lives. That's an awful long time to have whatever amount of bag slots occupied by something you'll only maybe use later.
>>
>>2196240
Erm actually you're not supposed to have good gear, like, ever.
You're supposed to pick up scraps and play shitty half-assed builds instead of optimizing, that way normal mode dungeons feel good and challenging.

I'm following the beginner melee pala.
Is Crusade actually worth it? I have to use How Dare You Strike Me to proc consecrate, and it has a 2 minute cooldown on top of only proccing when I hit 50% hp.
I'm eyeing Gaze of the Divine as a replacement.
>>
>>2205106
T5 Mighty Crusade is what runs the Crusade machine.
>>
>>2205158
Well shit, I didn't notice that. I thought the build was just cheesing a second epic strike for free.
>>
>>2205106
I'm kinda amazed the lengths some of these cookie cutter builds go just to get +1 STR sometimes, which is very little when you already have +100 damage.
>>
>>2205158
While on the subject, how the fuck do I sustain smite charges. I don't have How Dare You yet, but I sincerely doubt that and keeping exalted cleave on cooldown will be enough to let me use smite on trash. At least not if I want to be able to keep smiting on bosses.

Is cannith crafting actually worth leveling in current year or is it enough to just keep it at whatever level needed to add noncrucial stuff like feather fall to gear?

Good to know, but I assume not yet?

Minimum level 1 Blindness Immunity of True Seeing Goggles with an augment slot for Master's Gift is really useful to slap on and forget until level 20
Blindness Immunity and True seeing both require lv 250
getting Insightful stats, like Insightful CHA for a Sorc or Insightful WIS for a Cleric, can help out if you don't have the named gear that gets it for you.
All Insightful Stats require lv 275
Casters can get Insightful Spell Power at 225, Lores at 100, and Spell Power at 50
Skill shards have no required level, but if you want to make a skill swap item for, say, level 15 (ie. Search of Disabling for a Rogue) you'd have to make a level 15 shard which requires crafting lv 150.

If you have no gear, CCing can get you a full gearset.
If you have a ton of named gear, CCing can fill in that last piece of loot tetris for stats you wouldn't otherwise have, rare affixes like Light/Poison Resist, and multiple augment slots for something like Demonheart Emerald + Featherfall Topaz

>>2228008
I don't believe they've announced an official start of the anniversary. Typically it's around the end of February, so I'd expect ~the 25th which would be their standard maintenance date.
>>
Glad to see some anons still sticking around.

T-thanks.

I'm stumped as to what to choose. Tail of Suulomades looks enticing, but I'm locked to Greatsword and I doubt Falchion counts as Greatsword despite being twohanded.

If you don't already have an endgame weapon, 1 negative level for using Constellation is well worth it.
Spear of the Mournlands could also be an option for Warforge/Bladeforge/Aureon/Divine Crusader epic destiny.
Cracked Core is a strong necklace with 6 Insightful CON, 3 Quality CON, and 2 augment slots for either more CON (ie. Festive CON) or high tier augments.

Speaking of augments, assuming they don't put restrictions on the items you get from the box, it would be a good idea to make a couple alts just to claim BtC items to turn into BtA augments to pass over to your main.
Epic Litany of the Dead can be made into a level 30 Colorless augment that gives Profane +2 to all stats
Constellation, Cursed Blade can be made into a level 30 Orange augment that gives Improved Destruction
Pomura's Memento can be made into a level 30 Green augment that gives +5% Insight bonus to all spell critical chance
Dark Diversion can be made into a level 30 Yellow augment that reduces your threat by 20% for melee, range, and spells
Cracked Core can be made into a level 30 Yellow augment that increases Action Boosts, Turn Undead, Bard Songs, and Ki on hit by +1
Spear of the Mournlands can be made into a level 30 Orange augment that reduces the target's Positive and Repair Amplification by 5%, stacking 5 times.

each augment requires 50 Threads of Fate and 1 Empty Soul Vessel, so they'll be sitting around for a while until your main has farmed them (they're BtA)

Quiver of Alacrity is BtC, but if you Cannith Craft any arrows/bolts they'll be BtA and when you put them in the Quiver you can put the Quiver in the shared bank to move it over. Very worth making alts to transfer Quivers over, since with a bit of Orchard farming you get the best level 1 twink item in the game.

And if you have any Mirrors of Glamering lying around, Glamered cosmetics are BtA, so you can make a new character, get the glamer of something you would never use, and then pass it to your main.
>>
>>2236224
I am realistically years away from a point where that kind of augment fuckery becomes relevant, since I'm just noobing around with a friend with me as dps pala and him as wizard. Odds we'd ever obtain raid loot are practically non existant.

What I'm eyeing are
>dumathoins bracers
>heart of suulomades
>constellation
>rune lodestone
>sightless
Not really sure about the heart, but it's a minor artifact so I assume it's good ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'd like to have Sightless but at a glance it seems like Constellation is the best weapon I can possible get, even if I'll never be able to upgrade it.
>>
>>2236224
>Augments aren't applicable anymore because they have the Gift tag on them
>Quiver is being changed to be perma BtC and unable to be shared bank'd
hoooooooo boy, they're really going all out to fuck up their 20th anniversary
At least I'll still be able to glamer the 3 things I want cosmetics of.
>>2236321
Personally I wouldn't go for the Heart; if you find any other Minor Artifact you have to either ignore it or ditch the Heart and find a new trinket to replace it, and 4 filigree Artifacts are much more common now making the Heart's 3 slots lackluster
Sightless is a very strong consideration; True Seeing, Death Block+Neg Absorb, Constitution, Sheltering are useful on everyone and then the extra Melee/Ranged Power helps all non-casters. If you had a Reaper Helmet, I'd have second thoughts about Sightless but considering you're just noobing around you almost certainly won't be getting a R Helm for a while, making Sightless much more enticing.
Rune Loadstone is mediocre; Cold Iron is one of the easiest damage types to bypass, Blindness Immunity is readily available from Cannith Crafting or as an augment, and even on Reaper I barely notice champions dodging so dodge bypass is sort of an afterthought.

Morninglord's Greatsword is a budget option from Mists of Ravenloft (assuming you picked it up for 99 points) so I'd probably go Morninglord Greatsword + Sightless
>>
>>2236699
>Morninglord
>lvl 29
Oof, that's going to take a while. I'm only 22. Currently doing menace of the underdark. I did pick up the packs and gatheryourparty though, so I have something to work towards. Sightless it is.

I have leveldrain immunity so it could be argued I shouldn't be affected by the negative level from Constellation, but I sincerely doubt it works that way.
>>
>>2237132
Constellation is also lvl 29, same as Morninglord.
And no, Level Drain immunity doesn't stop the negative levels from items, only from spells like Enervation and weapon procs like Draining.
Negative levels from equipping items counter to your alignment technically aren't actual negative levels (a level 5 who takes 5 negative levels from Enervation instantly dies; a level 5 with 2 "negative levels" from items and gets hit with 4 negative levels from Enervation stays alive)
>>
>>2237341
The page listing the token rewards only shows lvl req for a few of the items, suggesting the ones without lvl req shown can be used from lvl 1. Shit's bound and it's not a competitive game so it'd make sense in that regard. But it's probably just a case of the devs being lazy retards.
>>
>>2237405
It's a case of the code being fucky.
There are a lot of situations where the minimum level of an item doesn't display; moving from Bank to Shared Bank without putting the item in your inventory is the most notable example, but certain interfaces where you claim items don't accurately show the minimum levels of items, especially for ones with clickies or ones which can be upgraded.
https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Dungeons_%26_Dragons_Online_20th_Anniversary_Token
to see the level requirements for all of the items; other than the 2 Quivers (1 and 20) every item is at least minimum level 26.
Cordovan said he was aware that the missing levels could be misleading, and that they were trying to fix it before the anniversary goes live so every item displays its proper ML.
>>
>>2237508

Will probably start playing if this anniversary event puts all the old expansions on sale. Biggest barrier to entry to this game is that all the expansion content costs like 400 dollars.
>>
If I'm doing a CR 16-19 saga, do I get credit for elite or normal if I do the quest on epic normal?
I'm still in range of Huntsilver and decided to do it for shit n' giggles, but running everything thrice on heroic for fuck all xp is annoying. It would be a lot easier if I could just do it once on epic normal and still get the elite credit.

They removed at least dumathoins bracers and constellation. And for some pantsonhead reason added sword of shadow, a lvl 10 greatsword you can get an infinitely better version of for free by doing the very first quest in ravenloft.
>>
>>2260526
Heroic Sword of Shadows is the best sub-20 weapon in the game.
17-20/x3 is SO much more powerful than 19-20/x2.

>>
>>2261424
The best item to take if you have no idea what to take is the NON-EPIC Quiver of Alacrity. You'll need to farm/buy/be gifted a full set of 8 Shield Fragments or Tome Pages, which you then turn in for a Seal of the Black Abbot and use the Fountain of Necrotic Might to upgrade the Quiver so it gives +30% Movement Speed.
The Quiver slot is functionally unused for all characters, so having an item with 0 minimum level that gives you maximum movement speed without taking up an item slot it fantastic, and it's the first item everyone grabs from the bank after reincarnation.

Other than the Quiver, the main choice is between Sword of Shadow for the best weapon pre-epic levels if your build uses 2 handed weapons, or some flavor of level 29 gear to use for endgame which is entirely determined by your build. For example Fetters is great for Monks but useless for anyone not specced for Handwraps.
>>
Just made a new char on Shadowdale, anyone that can hook me up with some stuff for a fresh character? Or wants to run together? Level 8

>>2262408
>The best item to take if you have no idea what to take is the NON-EPIC Quiver of Alacrity.
That presumes you want to hop on the reincarnation treadmill, personally I don't see it being worthwhile more than a few times or once in a while. Also you get an expeditious retreat clicky in Korthos that is only 5% slower than the upgraded quiver.
>>
>>2262408

Can you actually farm necropolis 4 solo for the stuff you need to upgrade?
I wanted to steamroll necropolis 1 a while ago for the silverflame rep, only to find out you actually can't do it solo because of bullshit mechanics. Haven't touched it since.
>>
>>2263372
For the quests, Inferno is possible solo but it's annoying because it's a teleporter maze and you need to be able to cast/use scrolls to cast fire spells like Fireball and cold spells like Ice Storm
Fleshmaker's Laboratory has a party check right at the end which is technically possible solo with hirelings but it's annoying to do
Temple of Vol and Ghosts of Perdition are both 100% possible solo
>>
>>2263798
Intredasting. I was more or less set on Sightless, but now I'm having second thoughts. If the quiver had move and attack speed, like the affix, it'd be a no brainer.

You might be retarded if you can't see how an instant teleport clicky to the main city hub might be useful, so I can't help you there. Enjoy the sentient jewel constantly yapping in your ear I guess, any sane person turns that shit off and there's much easier options.
>At least I can do them in ~8 minutes with a friend.
Imagine needing a friend to get an 8 minute 5 star run. Lmao. Record was 5:30 but I didn't screencap, you'll just have to trust me on that one.
>>
>>2267621
Inventory space is limited, and getting to the main hub is trivial so why waste a slot for that.
Of course I'd turn that shit off, I don't even play with sound. But as I understand it, sentience is required for filigree slots and I have no idea where to get a jewel other than this.
I have to run on 25 to get 10 favors, and I'm still on first life with shit gear ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>>
>>2267858
I didn't realize you were a fucking newbie, but it's all making sense now. Everything you say is retarded and borne out of ignorance, but that's okay, maybe one day you'll understand the QOL a short-CD perma teleport clicky is if you play for long enough.

The intro quest for epic ravenloft offers a couple of jewels and you can get one per life. If you're turning off the VA there's literally no reason to be grinding party favors 25 times and destroying your sanity in the process. https://ddowiki.com/page/Tobar_the_Smith

What do you want the hat for? Aesthetic? Freedom of movement is good it's not really needed outside of Eveningstar quests that have spell traps, and it can be achieved through the Death House end chest boots. If its for aesthetic the red tophat is easy af to get from the carnival quest.

I guess that's fair, I just never really felt holds were that annoying until Eveningstar and the stupid spell traps. Then again I don't play higher than R1 so maybe they're a lot worse.

>>2270951
I'm 37, been playing DDO on and off since 2006. And /vm/ is an extremely slow board. What's your deal bro, you okay?
>>2271016
Ignore that guy, I think he's drunk and possibly brown skinned ESL. It's pretty solo friendly. Normal difficulty is the only mode you can open on first life f2p, and normal difficulty is like... really, really easy. I'm friends with someone in game who refuses to party and solos everything on normal mode, and he's on his fourth of fifth life on his main, so it's absolutely possible but very slow. Especially if you're f2p.

The biggest issue right now is that the core, free game is lacking a lot. There's a reason they have these huge free bundles/massive sales periodically, and unfortunately you just missed a huge one back in December. It's still a fun MMO to play through and to see how MMOs used to be before WoW took over the market, and it's the closest thing we'll ever get to a true tabletop DND MMO.

The F2P version is obviously... free.. so you don't really have anything to lose by trying it out.
>>
>>2271116
I got an account from my friend during the free questing code thing a year back. He made like 12 accounts to give away since he really wanted us to play with him then. While I don't ever plan on buying anything I at least have most of the stuff unlocked. I think. I need to check.
>>
>>2271140
Okay then yeah, that should give you a decent amount of content to work with. If it was last year's (not the year before) you'll also get some good unlocks automatically, like Warforged, 32 point builds from the jump, Artificer, etc. Unfortunately you'll be missing out on some of the best expansions, but they go on sale for 99 DDO points regularly; Ravenloft is pretty much a must-have. And you don't have to "buy" them with real money, dungeons give you favor and you get 25 DDO points for every 100 favor, and even more for the first time on a server, so you'll easily get that much just by playing.
>>
>>2271187
Mists of Ravenloft, specifically. Chill of Ravenloft is the new one which ruins everyone calling something "Ravenloft" without specifying which one.

>>
>>2271453
Is there a thorns/reflect build? Or something where I can stand in one place and tank (no kiting) and uses AoE skills? That's my preferred playstyle.
>>
>>2271488
Reflecting damage abilities and spells exist but I've never heard of a viable build that utilizes them, because either the damage doesn't scale, only procs at a low %, or requires dips in spellcasting classes that'll probably negatively affect your tanking.

I'm not really an expert on class building but pretty much any melee class can tank, dragonlords (fighter subclass) are fucking goated for AOE stuns and have big survivability but I'm not sure it's a free subclass. Besides fighter, paladin and barbarian are great, paladin even gets an AOE insta-kill mechanic around midgame. Bear druid works really well too but I found it extremely boring, it's my least favorite class I ran through to date.

I'd say just use the aforementioned link as a guide to learn the class you might want to play, as mentioned unless you're VIP you're gonna only be able to open dungeons at normal difficulty, and you need an extra chromosome to have any issues with normal dungeons unless you're super under leveled.
>>
>>2271488
Guard procs are garbage, but if you want to stay in place and AoE the Blightcaster is good for that.
At level 6 make sure you take the Death Eater enhancement, as that gives you a ton of temporary HP just for killing things, and Thorn Bloom is an AoE that eminates from yourself and the damage will carry you until late heroics/early epics
>>
>>2263372
A bit of a late response but the shield fragments can drop from orchard chests too, which is a bit more tolerable than risking softlocking yourself from energy drain in Ghosts or dying of boredom in Vol. I've been using this dude's guide, have gotten half my fragments in less than an hour while solo:

>>
>>2274661
There hasn't been a DDO thread in /vm/ for a long ass time, we're still coasting on an old MMOdventure thread. On top of that Neverwinter is fucking dogshit and doesn't deserve a general. This game has its issues but it still maintains the same sort of charm that its had for 20 years... for the most part. Meanwhile Neverwinter is generic MMO slop that has only gotten worse with age, it unironically needs to be shut down.

How important are the hirelings if I just want to solo? Like, which premium ones are worth buying?
>>
>>2275585
>How important are the hirelings if I just want to solo?
Depends on the class and what difficulty you're running quests at. Most people just run with a cleric hireling, as hirelings are all retarded and useless outside of healing. Once in epics said hirelings just stay at the entrance, as they get insta-killed more often than not. You bring them to you if you die for a quick rez, that's about it.
>Like, which premium ones are worth buying?
What do you mean by 'premium?' If you mean gold seal hirelings then none of them. They're all temporary outside of the preorder bonus ones, not worth paying astral shards or real money for. And rogues stop being gold seal only once you get into epics, so if there's something you really need behind a locked door or chest, just go back at level 21 with an epic rogue hireling.

I saw an extreme case where someone on the forums played with an entire gold seal party in Reaper 3/4 iirc, because they hated social interaction. I'm guessing you're not running dungeons on reaper, so assuming you're doing normal to elite, all you really need is a cleric hireling for at-level elite dungeons. (normal you dont need shit if you have self-healing)
>>
>>2276011
The premium ones as in the ones that come from buying the Ultimate or Collectors Expansions.
>>
>>2275585
Elieri (Starter Pack)
Frogo (Saltmarsh)
Drossheart (Chill of Ravenloft)
are all hirelings I've found are useful.

Hirelings I haven't found useful are
Animated Scarecrow (Mists of Ravenloft)
Shield Guardian (Masterminds of Sharn)
Owlbear Defender (Shadowfell Conspiracy)

I have no data on
Feywild Muse (Feywild)
Teal (Isle of Dread)
Leafheart (Myth Drannor)
Darling (Vecna Unleashed)
but I assume Feywild Muse and Teal both would get outclassed too quickly, and Darling would be of limited use outside of House of Pain and maybe Spies in the House.
Leafheart could be worth it.

If Ultimate Saltmarsh goes on a deep discount again, getting Frogo (Lv 3) and Frogo (lv 30) covers most of your trapping needs, and if you really want to fill in the Sharn-to-Legendary gap, Collector's Edition of Vecna for the level 18 Darling would bridge that gap.
Drossheart is primarily a stationary turret, throwing daggers and multivials at whatever you're fighting, but he also has an enormous range of unconsciousness, some healing, and Melt Lock to knock doors/chests that Frogo can't get without buffs.
Elieri is useful to summon when you're out of mana to get some Divine Vitalities out of her, then dismiss and wait for the cooldown so you can do it again.
Leafheart might be useful as an actual healer, having a heal, a heal over time, and a resurrection, but I haven't used her so I don't know what her stats are like, if her heals are worthwhile, if she's too squishy, etc.

The Scarecrow, Shield Guardian, and Owlbear are all slow, too bulky to fit through most doors, and don't even deal decent damage in melee. The Owlbear is squishy, while the Scarecrow and Shield Guardian have reduced healing amplification making them a pain in the ass to use as tanks.

>>2277265
You know the old servers will be killed next year, right? You can either pack up and move, or stop claiming rewards.
There's both a Forgotten Realms and an Eberron HoH instance, and I think he only shows up in the latter. Alternatively he's also in phirasco and khiarlan. IF the ghost servers are actually eligible for the event. Which would surprise me, since it's extra work for practically no reason.
>>
>>2277292
I plan on deleting the character in the ghost worlds anyways. I only kept it because I didn't want to do the Korthos storyline again.
And I tried transferring the character. It doesn't show up on the list.
I guess I'll just make a new character and start over. I am going to miss some cosmetics but I'm not too bothered by it.
>>
>>2277265
Fred is on the bottom of the Hall of Heroes, but he also is in House P where Tolero used to be outside Partycrashers, and House J right beside the original Fred.
If you don't see 2 Freds in house J on the ghost worlds then you'll have to make a character on 64 bit.
>>
>>2277300
The only part of this that makes sense is the bit about cosmetics.
Korthos takes zero effort. You can even skip it. If you have the favor to start as lvl 4, which you sound like you do, you even get to skip the tutorial dungeon as well.

There's a guide about transfering on the wiki. And make sure you're not trying to transfer to a server where you don't have any free character slots.
>>
>>2277330
Yeah, I found out I can skip it. I don't know how or why, I started at level 1 but still had the option to skip. It just gave me a warning saying that I haven't done the quest on the server yet.
Also I did transfer my character. It has too much junk and I'm too lazy to sort it, so I'll just park it here. I think getting shared bank is going to be my first unlock. If I ever decide to play again.

has anyone played the lord of the rings online game? i'm not a fan of d&d but i really want to try lotro. is it better or worse than this game?
>>
>>2262408
>NON-EPIC Quiver of Alacrity
I don't get it. Why not the epic version?
>>
>>2277505
Yes. I like DDO better, but the general consensus is that LOTRO is better. They're both fun for different reasons. Do you not like "modern" D&D (post 4th edition) or just D&D in general?
>>2277554
Non epic is not level capped. Once you get all the shield fragments it becomes an unbreakable, level 0 source of +30% striding as well as the 10% range attack increase in your least used inventory slot. Meaning that if you're ever going to true resurrect (which you fucking should, its awesome), you'll basically be running around with capped enhancement bonus run speed.

Epic is better for certain builds in epic but upgraded regular is good for literally EVERY class at every level.
>>
>>2277751
just not a fan of d&d in general. lotr was my first introduction to fantasy. i don't like how there's 43 different races or 97 different classes. and more when you combine them. it just sounds so complicated and convoluted to me.
but i do like ttrpgs. i like playing call of cthulu. i might give ddo a try, but i like lotr too much.

If you do end up deciding to play DDO, be sure to add the NATURAL20 coupon code to get a bunch of good stuff. Unlocks a lot of things that would otherwise require grinding and/or payment. Coupon ends on the 24th.
>>
>>2277751
Sounds good, but if I am a casual with a lvl 4 character that might never make it to rein it seems like a hassle and big investment.
Well with that considered, I might not even make it to be able to use the epic version or those boots I saw anyway.
>>
>>2278195
Just make some lvl 1 alts and get whatever you think is useful. Now you're prepared in case you ever acquire shared stash and one or more Wish of Inheritance.
I got quiver, repulsor boots and sword of shadow tucked away for that exact reason. It's not like I'm ever going to use 12 of the 13 char slots anyway. Not when the game actively punishes you for rolling alts instead of reincarnating.
>>
>>2278291
Yeah, makes sense.
>shared bank
Man, I'm have redeemed 100 slots at some point in the past but I don't have them. I don't know where they are. Hope on a different server or something...
Also got a 2024 Starter Pack on a throw away character I made a few months ago. I don't get it how, it wasn't even the first char I made or anything. Wouldn't bother me if the Huge Ingredients Bag WASN'T CHARACTER BOUND FOR SOME REASON.

Wisdom, Constitution, anything that gives HP (False Life, Vitality, Profane Life), Fortification, Spell Power+Insightful Spell Power+Spell Crit for your most used spells (Impulse/Force for Thorns, Corrosion for Acid), Healing Amp, PRR
Fusible Sceptre of Impulse is THE level 12 weapon (or of Corrosion if Acid)
>>
>>2280110
does it matter what kind of equipment i use?
like sword or axe or w/e? or are stats more important? what about armor? light, medium, heavy?
>>
>>2279692
Keep in mind most IDENTICAL mods doesn't stack. If you have +4 Enhancement bonus to INT and +5 Enhancement bonus to INT, only the +5 applies. If the +4 had been Insight bonus instead of Enhancement, they'd stack.
That's why most affixes has 5+ different versions (enhance, insight, profane, artifact, sacred, etc.), and yes it's a fucking retarded system in dire need of an overhaul.
>>
>>2280127
If you're Hive form Druid, you don't want Medium or Heavy armor or any shield other than a Buckler or Small shield because you don't want to turn off your Evasion. Even for Thorn form, you're likely going to mostly be using light armor because of the no metal restrictions, unless you find a good Hide armor.
For weapons, their type only matters if you actually intend to swing them, which Blightcasters shouldn't be doing except to finish off a 1 health enemy. Generally dual wielding scepters is best, since it lets you maximize damage on 2 elements but sometimes a two handed quarterstaff is worth using.

This coupon code doesn't give you shit. It just gives you all the stuff a VIP gets for $15 dollars. You still gotta pay $500 dollars (yes really) to get all the expansion content, where 100% of all relevant/good gear is contained.
>>
>>2281181
I know you're just shitposting, but for anyone that believes this, this is false information.

The free quest coupon gives you all adventure packs except the expansions. Every single expansion will cost you 23,463 DDO points. Or roughly $230USD. But you get DDO points by doing the dungeons and completing them so you can earn 4,845 DDO points. So now it costs 18,618 DDO points for the expansions if you complete every single dungeon in the game.
Also they usually select two expansions and reduce the price to 99 DDO points. Let's assume it's the cheapest expansions they give a sale to, which costs 1,999 DDO points for each one. If you wait for the 99 DDO sale then it would now only cost 14,818 DDO points for all expansions.
And they have double DDO point purchases regularly, like right now. They usually happen during a summer sale, Black Friday, the holidays and the anniversary. You can buy 15,750 DDO points for $99USD.

So no, it does not cost $500 if you want to buy everything. At most it costs you $230USD if you don't wait for sales and buy DDO points outside the double DDO points event. Or $99USD if you are patient and play the game.
Or if you wait for the sale and event but don't want to do every single dungeon in the game then it costs around ~145$USD.
Or if you only wait for the double DDO points event and don't want to do the dungeons then it costs around ~$160USD.

This game is expensive, but it's not $500 expensive. It can reach that and more, but that's only if you buy a lot of QoL purchases which usually isn't worth it.
>>
I started a few days ago. I skipped the Korthos quest line because I did it years ago and I wanted to do the anniversary stuff as soon as possible. I took the 200k exp as my reward for the token. It got me to level 7. Now what should I do to get the most out of the anniversary event?

Grind the 10 year anniversary quest for the teleport clicky, its good QOL and probably the best non-token thing the anniversary offers.

I've been playing since a bit before /v/ started, and I've yet to see that. I see adventure packs for 99 regularly (there's 5 of them on sale right now) but not expansions.

>>2281392
>what should I do to get the most out of the anniversary event?
Restart as a 32 pts lvl 4 and get the quiver, then grind the anniversary quests for xp. Even with ransack they're still stupidly good xp.
The xp is the single most retarded thing you can pick, because you get xp simply by playing the game. Everything else is raid drops that requires a group and that rngsus smiles on you.
>>
>>2282631
>I've been playing since a bit before /v/ started, and I've yet to see that. I see adventure packs for 99 regularly (there's 5 of them on sale right now) but not expansions.
They've done it for the last 4 years for the anniversary event. Most likely they'll do it later. I know they reduced Mist of Ravenloft and Sharn expansion for 99 DDO points last year and the year before that. I know because I bought MoR 2 years ago and Sharn last year for 99 DDO points.
>>
>>2282631
>but not expansions.
As the other anon mentioned it's happened at least twice. I got Menace, Shadowfell, Sharn, Ravenloft and Feywild for 99 points each.
>>

I have a quiver. Made a new character and just transferred it to my shared bank.
>The xp is the single most retarded thing you can pick, because you get xp simply by playing the game.
Everything else is level 20+ or some shit. Even if I pick something I can't use it which is why I'm sticking to my 200k exp.
>>
Okay, I got my anniversary teleporter. Now what? I tried farming the Time Flies dungeon on Epic as a solo and I die a lot. Usually it's because I'm knocked down or feared or stunned then I they just hit me while I can't do anything. I only farmed up some gear there but I stopped. I got to level 9.
Should I start farming better equipment? Where should I go? I have most of the expansions, except the last 3.
>>
>>2284338
>lvl 9
>epic
If Brawnpits is kicking your ass, then try Hard instead and look at what xp/time ratio you get. And remember you don't have to kill the adds, just click the portal the moment he dies. Also take a look at the blue weapons/armor for timeline shit. There's a better version available every 4-5 lvls.
>>
>>2284402
It's multiple of them.
For example, the one where I have to kill the three starting heroes, I get Feared and die.
The one with the fire and wind genies. The boss turns into a tornado and runs into me and I get knocked down and die.
The big ogre thing, I can't kill the boss fast enough and the tornadoes reach me, get knocked down and die.
The big robot thing with the minotaurs knock me down and I die.
>>
>>2284430
One cloak from timeline gives fear immune. The pyschic ward from the bling hat should also give fear immunity. The tophat gives freedom of movement, but I'm not sure that works against the tornada knockdown.

Ignore the robot. Talk to the dog and follow it. It will take you to the guy you actually need to kill. The only thing you get out of "doing it better" is some dialogue. If you spare the dragon in the dragon/mindflayer quest, you get some extra dialogue from the dragonlich in the time hub. I imagine it's the same for the other quests.
>>
>>2284338
When I was grinding out Time Flies I'd jump up 4 levels and do it on normal as opposed to elite at level, made for sub 3 minute runs so long as I didn't run into the Marilith. No clue how it affects xp though. As for gear it depends on your class, but you can grab the Mists of Ravenloft weapon now for level 10 from Tobar the Smith after the intro quest, they're always a pretty big game changer.
>>
Which is more solo friendly, DDO or LOTRO?
>>
>>2286018
I think both are on par with each other and can be soloed as long as you're not creeping into the hardest difficulties. I haven't played LOTRO in over a decade admittedly but when I did I was mostly solo. As for DDO, if you follow the level suggestion for the dungeons generally speaking it's a cakewalk solo or with a hireling, so long as you don't do Reaper. Elite in some cases can be tough but normal and hard at level is stupidly easy.
>>
>>2287090
What if I want to do at least R1? Doable? Which classes?
>>
>>2287861
You're certainly not going to have an easy time soloing R1 as a first life noob with no knowledge of the dungeons. For one, reaper opens up an entire separate group of enhancement trees that only work in reaper but change the difficulty substantially depending on how many points you have, and the only way to get points is to run reaper dungeons. A lot. Mostly in parties for maximum gains. And reaper is capped within 3 levels, so you can't go back and do them at any level like elite.

Second, your gear is going to be dogshit. Third, every single trap is probably going to one shot you. And fourth, death means you have to restart the dungeon from the beginning (unless you're in later levels with a rez hireling), and a lot of these dungeons are long as fuck.

If you're still interested, look up pretty much any hardcore builds, those are all first lives with survivability in mind. Also should be noted if you're f2p you're gonna have to play the dungeon twice before reaper even unlocks, once on normal and once on hard.
>>
Feels like I'm the only one playing this game in this thread.

Anyways, is it better to 'bank' my levels when I'm going through lower level quests? I'm going through the Island of Dread quests and I just got enough exp to get to level 11. I still need to do the Normal, Hard and Elite for 8 more quests. Should I just stay at level 10 for now and at least not lose out on the exp? Is there a reason not to do this other than going through the dungeon quicker? I can kill enemies in 1-3 hits already as a Blightcaster already.
>>
>>2290073
Banking levels used to be really important back when there were less quests and levelling was harder.
Currently the only level anyone really banks is 19; it's better to stay at 18 and run Sharn 2 and maybe the odd Vale/Wheloon/Grip quests to get enough exp to hit 20 than it is to take 19 and be stuck running dreck like Druid's Deep and Soul Splitter.
The biggest reason to not go and level up is so you don't have to waste time running to a trainer just to run back out into the wilderness for the next quest.

CON is most universally useful.
INT is also valuable, because it affects your skill points when you level up.
DEX has the most amount of feats governed by it, so if you want to make a ranged fighter, a two weapon fighter, or qualify for Precision/Dodge you can lean on your DEX tome to help with the feat prerequisites.
WIS and CHA are the most niche of the stats, only really useful for classes who depend on them for spellcasting or specific class features.
>>
Getting tired of playing spell casters. What're some melee classes that I can just unga bunga? Preferably something that's as defensive as a Blightcaster. If it's just as strong then great but I don't mind playing something weaker. I just want to swing a large weapon and cleave a bunch of enemies. I just want to hold my forward key and my left mouse button to swong my weapon through dungeons.

>>2291714
Those Strimtom builds are made specifically for first life newbies; the two-handed weapon build he provides doesn't even have healing as a skill. I'm guessing he suggests healing hirelings because of that, plus Paladins don't have great saves vs traps. That build -does- have UMD though so healing potions and scrolls could replace the hireling, although I'm not sure why you're so against using one.

I used that build last life and absolutely loathed it until it got online at level 12 with Holy Retribution, which was really cool, but leading up to that was an absolute slog.

Falcion or GS bear druid might be a good alternative, or a straight up Barbarian. Maybe Fighter Dragonlord, which is strong as fuck currently even on first lives, but is less "run forward and hold left click" and more "aoe stun + massive damage holding left click after."
>>
>>2291228
Most fun I ever had was with a paladin using a dynastic falcata as a charisma pure

Why would it, when you have hireling, cure moderate, cure serious, heal from smite and 8 lay on hands charges? I'm 26 on that build right now, and I've practically never used any of the cure spells.

wat
You do know you're supposed to discard the old ones and buy new level appropriate ones when you level... right?

As for usage, the buttons are fairly self explanatory.
Agressive means it'll heal you and attack whatever it sees. Defensive means it'll heal you and attack whatever attacks you. Passive means it'll do nothing unless told to. Unfortunately there isn't a "heal-only" mode, which makes favored soul healers fucking shit because they WILL go into the boss cleave despite explicitly being told to stand the fuck still in a specified spot outside cleave range. You can set them on passive to force standing still, but then you have to manually heal yourself with the hirelings spells, which defeats the entire automation purpose of using a hireling in the first place.

... Okay that makes sense. Best place to pick them up is in Stormreach Marketplace since they have them for every level past 4. You won't be able to get rogues until epics and unlike the gold seal ones you can only summon them at the entrance of a dungeon, but they'll be a thousand times more useful than one 9 levels below you.

Whatever you think you need and is your level, really. Cleric means you can facetank pretty much everything, but a dps hire makes things die faster. They're cheap because they can only be summoned for an hour per contract, so try them out or just stick with cleric.
Note that hirelings are unique and party exclusive, meaning you and your friend bob can't both whip out the lvl 20 cleric if you're in the same party.

I'd assume the same, especially since the mats required are basically freebies if you actually grind the chests and quests in Orchard. They drop in pretty much every chest.
I just can't see someone feeding the quiver for any reason, or making it into an augment when it's the best slot possible already.
Guess I'll have to live with the tag, which I don't care honestly, half of my stored gear still has the feywild event tags on them.

Hate to break it to you but Mists is their greatest expansion and it's not even close, so it's all downhill after that (subjectively). Menace of the Underdark is pretty good too but Mists beats it.
I'm really fond of Sharn but people have mixed reactions towards it, if you don't like Noir you might not like it. But it feels like it was the last expansion to truly try something new, everything since has been a bit lazy.

Definitely feel your pain regarding be locked behind normal difficulty -- it was the sole reason I never committed to this game, despite my account being from 2009. I didn't even get to level 20 until 2024. Once I got two HRs under my belt though the game became very enjoyable.

Only one I can think of is Secret World, but apparently it's a much different game now than when I played. Still maintains the same quests and aesthetic though, just the gameplay changed I guess? Someone explain why slayer is a thing and why the reward is so god damn shit.
Why would anyone grind out 5-15k kills for xp you could get by doing a few dungeons on elite instead.
>>
>>2294288
Soloing wilderness slayers is pointless and the sign of a true psychopath, and heroics aren't worth the time, but doing slayers at epic levels in a party is the quickest way to level from 20-30. Especially if you have a slayer potion.

The kills count for everyone and they recently changed it so the enemies respawn, negating an old issue where you'd have to reset every so often. You can easily get 1-2 levels per decent wilderness area after capping kills, which is extremely fast to achieve if you have a slayer potion. And still worth doing even if you don't, though maybe not to the cap (I usually quit around 3.5k kills if I don't have a potion)
>>
>>2294288
You can do legendary level slayers in low epics, so shit like cogs and Barovia both give tremendous amounts of exp when doing epic levelling.

Also the minimum group size is 4 people as that gets the max pop size density. With 4 people and a slayer potion you can hit that 7500 kill count in less than 2 hours and that's a lot of fucking experience for less than 2 hours of work.

How long are "Very Long" quests exactly? Am I expected to sit there for 2-3 hours in a dungeon or something?
>>
>>2294951
Only the raid ones. Even going in blind I can't think of many that have taken me over an hour, and even those were not much over an hour and were purely because of my stupidity (getting lost, not understanding a puzzle, etc).
>>
How the hell do people get 7k favor? I have all the content except Chill and I'm already struggling.

literally do quests on epic

>1: Do raids.
48 for Twilight Forge+Titan Awakes
42 for Codex and the Shroud, Vault of Night+Plane of Night
36 for LegVision of Destruction, Relentless, LegHound of Xoriat
33 for Den of Vipers, Killing Time, LegTempest Spine, Shroud
30 for Skeletons in the Closet, LegChrono, Hunt or Be Hunted, Dryad and the Demigod, LegLord of Blades, Project Nemesis, Too Hot To Handle, Curse of Strahd, Riding the Storm Out
27 for Threats Old and New, Fire Over Morgrave, LegMaster Artificer, Baba's Hut, Mark of Death, Temple of the Deathwyrm, Defiler of the Just, Fire on Thunder Peak, Hound of Xoriat, Vision of Destruction
24 for Fall of Truth, Caught in the Web, Tower of Despair
21 for Lord of Blades, Master Artificer, Ascension Chamber
18 for Reaver's Fate
12 for Zawabi's Revenge

That is 1077 total. You probably already have some of the easier ones, like VoN5+6, Zawabi's Revenge, Reaver's Fate but likely 900~1000 missing favor from the rest.
>2: Do challenges
There's 158 favor for fully completing every challenge (Short Cuts is bugged, otherwise you could get 162)
>3: Do the level 34 free to play quests in Sharn
Another 108 favor for them, and they have no heroic version so you're unlikely to have done them already

Other than that, just click Progress to sort by progress, then do every quest on elite that isn't already marked elite.

Appreciate the breakdown, didn't realize how substantial of a chunk raids were and I had no idea that challenges gave favor as well. I don't think I'll do legendary though, the Illithid Invasion quests are tempting but my goal is to just hit 30 with 5k favor and then TR.

It just feels like such a slog and I'm itching to start a new class in heroics, I can't see myself grinding favor to 7.5k.
>>
>>2296998
it is a massive slog
according to the wiki, there's 8661 possible favor so if you want the +8 tome you either have to do some raids, or do literally every single quest plus some challenges.
I tried counting up favor and I think there was 15 favor that the wiki says exists but I couldn't find, whether it's a quest that's just not in my journal yet or what

Wonder if its this quest, which still exists on the map but is no longer playable and isn't in the adventure compendium: https://ddowiki.com/page/Memoirs_of_an_Illusory_Larcener

Why are DDO players like this?

Based Requiem enjoyer. I really liked that setting when we had a run-in with the game.

>is bugged
This is annoyingly common. I've run in to bugs that have been around for years or decades even. I had to reset the Brawnpits zone like 20 times because the questline is bugged and can only be done if Brawnpits spawns in ONE(1) of several random locations. Do they never bother fixing shit?
It feels like they just push out updates and if something turns out to be broken then it's just tough shit.

that was fixed

Sure as shit wasn't fixed when I did it ~2 months ago.

I want to make an Inquisitive but the fact that it gels with pretty much every class gives me hardcore choice paralysis, plus I have no idea how it the tree actually works because I'm stupid.

reeee
How rare is that fucking thing.
>>
>>2304603
Are you talking about the collectable turn in ones? It's limited to what they offer for shards.
>>2305252
>3 weeks and no jibbers
... Grim. It's pretty rare for sure but nobody has an exact number, your best bet is to try and grind it out in a party and ask people for help. Maybe I'm extremely lucky but I got it on my third run and then immediately had it drop for me again on my next life while in a party, and I let someone else have it.
>>
>>2305409
>limited
As expected. Good. I could easily see it being random just to jew us into buying shards.

It was amazing I wish I had done it with the Guild at the time instead of soloing it.
One of the very VERY few missions I enjoyed doing even on normals.

Sorry to the anon that I told in-game that I'll possibly be logging in to play last week. I got kinda busy IRL and I'm struggling to squeeze in Wakfu into my schedule - maybe next week.
