Once im in the Bronze age, wtf do I do?Im building a house now but I need to find more shit and I aint got a clue how prospecting works
>>2173778>and I aint got a clue how prospecting worksDon't worry, neither does 'ron
>>2173778I used two mods that basically makes prospecting a lot easier.Prospect Together and Betterer Prospectinghttps://mods.vintagestory.at/prospecttogetherhttps://mods.vintagestory.at/bettererprospectingBasically with Prospect Together it removes the guess work with prospecting. It scans the whole chunk for whatever ores is in that chunk. You don't have to go chunk to chunk to pinpoint the ore. Or you could if you want. Then with BetterER Prospecting you use the bore hole mode by pressing F. Then dig a stone. It will scan that 1x1 pillar for any ores in that 1x1 square. Do this until you find the ore you want. Once you do just dig straight down until you hit it. It doesn't tell you how far the ore is from the surface so sometimes you have to dig all the way to the bottom. So basically: use Node Search to find all the ores in the chunk. Then use Bore Hole mode to find the ore vein in that chunk.I also use Interesting Ore Gen to make ore deposits more realistic.
>>2173778so to start you want to use density mode.density mode gives you a reading of how likely it is that a specific node will spawn in that given block pillar.for example, if native copper is at 20% then there's about a 20% chance that pillaring straight down will land you on a copper node.from there you want node search mode.this one will give you more exact readings. if there's ore within a 6 block range of the broken block, then it'll pop up in chat.what i like to do is mine straight down on a favorable prospecting spot and node search every 10 blocks.there's a two block overlap, but that helps pinpoint ores.some ores will be harder to find than others (hematite for example, due to sheer vein size skewing percentages)>>2173937>It scans the whole chunk for whatever ores is in that chunknot how it worksit only marks the chunk rather than sharing a waypoint so that its more visible on the map.you can get two different readings from two corners of the same chunk.
teheehehee "nog" teheehee heeheehee
>>2174012>you can get two different readings from two corners of the same chunk.read the mod, retardyou can have different %s but the types of ores in that chunk are all the same.

>>2174128move south. winter is boring
>>2174121it says>readings within a chunk are usually close enough to each other that this does not matter muchand what you said implies that it just tells you what you'll find. thats not the case.
>>2174128I work on building interiors and chisel-work furniture. Or I journey around, mapping out the world. Or I just grind for stone.>>2173778Bronze age is the worst. If you run out of bronze, being set back to the copper age is hell. Speed run to iron age, look for iron in caves or google a prospect tutorial and get fire clay/charcoal.Once in iron age, the steel age is optional, that's the part where you city build and larp.
>>2173772Hytale got picked up by riot and is shaping up to be more like everwind. It's combat and exploration focused and won't have any good tfc shit or chisel shit.Vintage story will still be better if tyron realizes lore is not where it's at. Which he is retarded on that front...

I'm trying to breed my animals, does the father have to eat too or just the mother? My hares already ate 20+ portions but still says "Ready to mate". The male rabbit is trapped in a fence and can't eat from the troughs.
>>2174682no, the father does not matter whatsoever. nor does the generation. literally does not matter. only the mother and the mother's generation matters. having the male separated from the females by a fence works at least with goats, don't know if it also works with hares.
>>2174566>entiretyCertain elements, sure, like the giant gears, rot, and the magitek contraptions (wheels of lull, corpus, sotha-esque magitek contraptions etc.) but that's a fairly surface-level reading. The world as it exists basically happened as a result of temporal shenanigans; either the landscape got shifted back in-time, or the world got flung far forward. But the meat of the lore is basically just an eldritch-spin on victorian horror. A dude and his friend doom the world, and themselves, with new technology. The result is a temporally altered world with another dimension and it's creatures bleeding through. It's more similar to Stephen King (Mist) or Half-Life given that it's basically sci-fi with vintage coat, whereas the elder scrolls is firmly fantasy, with the majority of storylines relating to the setting's cosmology. If we find out the Jonas built a fucking numidium and used himself or some deity to power it I'll eat my words.
>>2174762>The world as it existsThe world as it exists is just a perfectly normal world except man-caused post-apocalypse and all the animals are niggers who suicidally attack you for no real reason. The Morrowind world is just the perfectly normal world except man-caused Blight, which mutates animals crazy and makes them suicidally attack you. Also niggers spawn out of thin air because fuck you.

Which mods/additions/concepts you'd like to see in vanilla but probably aren't ever gonna make it because it goes against tyrone's "minecraft did it like this therefore it is the only way" (or alternatively, is a vibecoded downgrade)Mine is toolsmith, wrap-around worlds and Create-like medieval or late-modern mechanisms that allow for more interesting contraptions.

>>2177134submissive and breedable elflet
>>2177027Yeah he spoke out against redstone shit. I'd like to be able to do some really creative stuff with gears. I know about lag machines but pistons and conveyor belts are must-haves imo.He did say he wants to add sawmills one day.I think my most desired updates would be>carpentry/sawmills (with more creative blocks and options)>more gear based automation and steam power>an actually decent combat/black powder/guns/crossbow update. Make combat more a rock paper scissors against armor/weapon types.>rivers/streams, more biome specific animals and hunting, net fishing and fishing boats, more diverse shit on proper continents>alchemy/herbology and maybe some drugs/addiction mechanic. A disease mechanic is cool but hard to do right>More customizable stuff on a small scale. Like coinage, stamps, banners, and some sort of painting system.>Better mass block reinforcement and some sort of siege mechanic for settlements>Better ai villages>Airships and steam boats>gem cutting, maybe ivoryOnce all that shit is in, is when he should focus on the story and shit.I think a world paint tool for the worldedit would be a game changer for servers. Wrap-around worlds would be based as well I agree. I don't think vs's shit should get create-level unless its implemented in the steam age.
>>2177038>>2176425These. You're right, when anon was shilling everwind itt I played it for a few hours and it was ass. Pretty much the same aesthetic, building, and combat is hytale looks in trailers. I've looked at lay of the land. I'm curious to play it, I think it'll be fun, but it doesn't seem like it'll handle servers or larping as well. The building is cool but I prefer the vintage story chisel aesthetic. It feels more grounded and in sync with the world around it. If Hytale ends up anything like the trailers or Everwind, I can't imagine it'll be that good. Maybe fun with friends for some combat/adventure but not for survival larp. I'm more excited for lay of the land but even that doesn't hit the same way VS does for me. Hytale seems aimed for zoomers anyways.

It's not even the most egregious example of tedium in the game, and certainly not something I'd call awful game design since it's fairly logical and not actually that hard. VS isn't a fast-paced game. I'd argue that earlygame tends to be marginally more enjoyable than lategame since you're just trying to get your shit together instead of spending hours prospecting for some elusive underground mineral. So unless you plan on refunding, take a deep breath and focus on one thing at a time.

Okay, I managed to at least stop the random micro freezes. RAM used to be 15-18GB usage when playing singleplayer. I don't feel like I'm lagging so I think I'll ignore these for now.

If you've ever played a game or were invited to an activity with someone who is basically an expert, the sense of "tagging-along" can kind of impair motivation or just overall suck the fun out of it. What's the Great Filter for most new players? Prospecting is a very difficult thing to grasp and isn't explained much but once you understand it, it's great, but I can see people having trouble with it, especially since you need it for ores.
When did someone light the edin tunnels? wow!
>>2181656Definitely entering the metal ages. Unless you read/watch a tutorial most players wouldn't even know to look for copper bits, let alone to dig under them to find the veins. It takes so long to find enough to make an anvil most would give up if they have bad worldgen.
Finding enough food for the first year is rough. Anyone got any tips? I find myself traveling far just to get 2-3 seeds.
>>2181733Forests have a lot of mushrooms, I usually gather those and berries. Also make a 2x3 hole in the ground and bait big animals into it then finish them off with a bow or some spears for some meat.Make sure that you're always making stews since it gives a lot more satiety then eating shit straight up.Also I'm pretty sure it's not patched out still, so when you find wild veggies instead of just picking them, get a hoe and use it on one of the corner pixels around the plants to till the earth under, that way it counts as a farm plant and it gives more seeds and produce when you harvest it.You can also check those annoying sheer drop caves, in my experience they are always full of racoon corpses for some reason.
>>2181725I didn't even known that surface nuggets meant ore just below the dirt for years, and I used to space out prospecting bore holes by only 2 or so blocks rather than 10. They don't really explain how ore is more like a disc of material, especially with iron that can spawn more than 10 blocks wide, so it's purely by experience. Plus I used to just dig straight down to mantle because I didn't know the x or y spawns for most ores. Worst is when you run out of copper but you don't have enough material to make another pickaxe, happened to me once and you end up having to go panning and exploring again. >>2181733Early game just grabbing berries, mushrooms, fish, wild crops and any meat you can find to put into cooking pots is the ideal. Always cook in pots rather than eat raw, cooked meals stop your satiety bar from dropping for a time, 30 seconds for every 100 satiety.

I've been playing with the Rivers mod for a while now. It sucks. I don't get how it's a popular mod. Combined with other world gen mods the rivers are so out of place. Especially when you increase the world height limit. There's no variation in elevation for it. So you can have a nice mountain but there's a small slit of river that cuts through it at sea level, ruining the mountain. And even on flat ground the rivers are at sea level, so you can have a nice plain but the river is like 20 blocks below, and it's not a gradual incline either. It's just a straight drop. Maybe the canoe mod would make it fun, but I've been using the raft from Primitive Survival and traveling down a river gets boring real fast. I'd rather have huge lakes than rivers.Am I missing something? I only used the mod because I wanted to use River Fish mod, but apparently those can spawn in lakes so I was tricked into using the River mod.
>>2182065I miss Dinoserb when we had fucked up spiraling rivers that ran through the mountain outside Iron Valley and had a cool cave effect. this game has made me realize how niche dwarf fortress still is..it's frankly a nicer way to generate a world because you can look for specific sites and see how many might qualify.
>>2182336I've been playing Dwarf Fortress since 2008. I've been donating $10-20 at least once a year to this day. I spend at least a month playing the game at least once a year. Terra Prety makes good plains and hills.Conquest: Landform Overhaul makes reall good mountains.I wish I was able to combine the two.
VT's design choices are so inconsistent. On one hand that game tries to be super hardcore with the mechanics, like you can't have anything for free. But then it also holds your hand with a free infinite, markable map out the gate, oil lamps are permanent, and other stuff like that.
>>2182065don't worry, the rivers tyrone is forcing indians on fiverr to make will be worse
How do I move animals? I have two aurochs in a wattle enclousure near my house and it says I own the fuckers but they still run away and attack me when I come closer so that's probably why they don't breed, they get spooked to often, I have no idea how I would move them to another enclousure short of building a massive fenced off route connecting the two and scaring them through it.
>>2182569>I have no idea how I would move them to another enclousure short of building a massive fenced off route connecting the two and scaring them through it.That's how you do it. >>2182642looks for copper bits on the ground, collect it and mark that spot on your map. find clay and do some pottery. collect all the seeds you can and start a farm. hunt some animals, eat their flesh and wear their skin.
>>2182642First things first, you'll want to craft some baskets to expand your inventory. Have basic tools knapped and gather a minimum of 40 reeds. Also, you can't reset your spawn point until you get a temporal gear, so unless you're okay with all your shit despawning don't settle too far from spawn. Your first priority is going to be clay and copper nuggets. You'll need 20 copper nuggets to smelt your first pick. Wherever you find copper nuggets on the surface, there's almost always a bunch of ore directly underneath, so mark it on your map to go back and dig up later.Gather lots of clay. You can't make chests until later, but you can fire storage pots in a kiln. Back to the pickaxe, you'll want to fire a crucible, a hammer mold, a pickaxe mold, some ingot molds, and an anvil mold. Other than that, fire some bowls and a cooking pot. All this can be done by clay forming and then firing the raw items in a pit kiln, which requires dry grass, sticks, and your choice of fuel (firewood, peat, charcoal, coal etc). The type of fuel you use determines how long they'll take to finish. Charcoal will be needed to smelt copper, so chop down some trees and get ready to fill a modest pit with stacks of firewood. As for food, running around you should be able to find berries, non-poisonous mushrooms, the occasional crop, and sometimes fish in shallow ponds. You can also cook and eat cattail roots if you're desperate. Speaking of crops, gather any you see, even if they're not mature. Non-mature crops have a chance of dropping seeds and you'll want as many as you can get.Personally, I would dig a pit about 3 blocks deep, 3 blocks wide, and however long you feel like and just try to chase some animals like deer into it. They won't starve to death and you can just butcher them as need-be. Good temporary earlygame solution to food security. Go back and mine copper ore, make an anvil and copper saw. Should have it from there.
>>2182665said it better than i did.

I'd rather live like an authentic hunter gatherer. If you really want to run around 'authentically' hunting game be my guest. IRL paleolithic humans would run deer, boars and mammoths into pits all the time, so it's not like they were above exploiting herd mechanics. The only difference is they wouldn't leave them in the pits to eat later, so if that irks you just butcher them immediately.

>>2182817and then we approach the line of unfun tedium for the sake of "rEaLiSm" in a game where you are a temporal anomaly and the world was reset to give humanity a second chance.>torchesassuming we're using pitch glue for this, the most obvious problem is the availability of resin.for 1L of pitch you need two resin, and each resin log regenerates after 7 in game days.so to maintain 1L of pitch every day, you'd need ~14 trees that you collect resin from as soon as their available, and you wont always have resin capable trees near your base or near eachother. so simple torches could very easily turn into a half day endeavor every game weekthen comes the problem of how much pitch to make a torch? 0.1L? you'll need 1.4 trees per torch (assuming a simple baseline of 1 pitch torch = 1 day)then you need to take the time to replace and ignite every single torch in your base."but i dont want to do that, so i'll just use another light source!"you need at least one torch available to you for the purposes of cooking and blacksmithing.then comes the problem of not being able to use them for decorative purposes due to being a fire hazard. which is lame and gay and you should feel bad for suggesting it.i would also like to point out that in real life, torches were almost always used in scenarios where you could have several people dedicated to the sole purposes of making sure a city was lit up, or one off cases where you didnt need infrastructure for it.in singleplayer or small servers you do not have that.>oil lampsso your options here are animal fat and seed/grain oils.animal fat, a hot enough commodity in the early game that you really shouldnt be using it for lampsseed/grain oils, you get so little for the amount of grain used that its hard to justify it until you're beyond oil lamps.
>>2182912>I FUCKING HATE REALISM AND CHANGE SO MUCH THAT I WILL ALWAYS ARGUE AGAINST IT EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE A MILLION WAYS TO MAKE IT WORKnigger, torches are as simple as a literal piece of shit on a stick that you set on fire. you ever only argue semantics with imagined numbers when those numbers could be literally anything. you can make 1L of pitch make 100 torches! or 10! or 1, if you're retarded (so tyron will pick that option)! but it should never be the only option (so tyron will make it the only option, for some arbitrary reason, just like he made the most brittle rock ever impossible to smash with a hammer) do you know how much pitch you need for a torch and how long it'll burn in real life? i sure don't, and the most reasonable assumption would be that it's a lot less than a whole liter per torch per hour. not many people know that. that's where you fudge the numbers, and where a good game developer would fudge them so the execution is realistic, but the reward is higher than realistic so you have reason to do it. unlike in this game.

We're coming up on 4months of new-OG and I figured now is as good a time as ever to update the world map. Following up with closeups. If your town wasn't covered by my dump feel free to access your own save with VS map tools which I used to make the map.>https://mods.vintagestory.at/vsmaptools>fullsize: https://files.catbox.moe/bxwt4p.png
Starting off with our baby, Spawn Island still has a deadly spawn you can randomly get up on the mountain I'm pretty sure but aside from that it's been pretty dolled up. No standing city but it has a few buildings to rest at and a fort to get your self started up. In the months since the server started there have been translocators found directly to Edin and further down to Joyless that you can run to directly with newer fancy highways laid by hardworking anon. To prevent noobs from taking the janny teleports 30k North and South unwittingly someone erected a wooden building around it. There's still plenty of copper on the island too.
Now SLUGSMOUTH/Slugworth is the newest settlement I can find. I believe it was started by a sole anon (whiteeeen? if not speak up here) and features a complete lighthouse and small city for one. There is also a nice lil mine on the island and a highway between each POI. See more here>>2175513>>2175517
Joyless 2.0 - named after the city of old and times gone by it is inhabited by oldfags galore. Don't know much about it other than the missing elk and boats in the waters nearby. Remember to lock your car and secure your valuables while down south!
>>2184051My town wasn't covered but I don't want people coming so it can stay hidden
I know what wrong with NOGTOO much wadder. Need less wadder
Are you fair of complexion or wish you lived in the real inner Earth? Do you wish other people were blond elves as well? Hate the sun and wish there was more winter in the game? Visit Barm and steal the nazi gold in Thule, located far away from any noobs reach and for the hardest of the hardcore. Ask about how to reach it on foot from Edin or take a boat today!
The big one - Edin. The closest we have to a beginner town, although the janitor is MIA as are most of the citizens. Ask BugZJones or myself if you ever need help or move it, it's a fine little space where nearly everything is shared and you can experience a long winter comfortably.>>2184092Honestly hate the water too, boating is so boring. TLs now skip useless water where they used to skip boring open land.
>>2184087Some places are best left HIDDEN>>2184106At least the land has goodies. The open ocean would theoretically be nice if it did anything besides separate landmasses, but it just makes the world feel smaller because there's less space to actually wander around. I loved travelling the elkway and feeling like I was on a journey.

>>2184810Around ~90k
>>2184817please tell me you're not serious.
>>2184818Equator is 100k. You don't really see papyrus until it gets hot. So you gotta travel far. You might see some at 60-70k but you should start seeing them more frequently the further you go south.
>>2184818lmao this nigga plays on default settings
>>2184810>>2184817>>2184828While this is true, you spawn around halfway between the equator and pole already on default settings. This means you only have to travel around 20-30k souf at minimum to see papyrus. The guy saying you need to travel 90k to see papyrus is acting as if you spawn at the north pole.

>>2184930oh boy, i love more lore updates!!
>>2184891What's the point of changing world size? If you play with a 10k equator then doesn't that just give you 10k of temperate climate, then 1mil blocks of north and south pole?
>>2184933no. it's repeating. it's north to south to north to south to north to south until you run out of map. and limiting the map to like 10k x 10k or less will ensure that translocators don't fuck you off in the entirely wrong direction. you also won't ever explore all of a 10k x 10k world, much less a world that's 10000 times larger.
>>2184937Well, I have the Translocator Engineering – Redux mod so I guess that doesn't matter to me. I'll just keep it default.

>>2184990river on shelf
>>2185027It sucks. I don't get how rone thought it would be a popular addition. Combined with other shelf space mods the rivers are so out of place. Especially when you increase the shelf height limit. There's no variation in elevation for it. So you can have a nice bookshelf but there's a small slit of river that cuts through it at eye level, ruining the storage. And even in flat houses the rivers are at eye level

I wouldn't want to abandon gen 10 goats either. those you'd have to put on a boat if you want to move them a long way, or use translocators. chickens are significantly easier since you only need to basket one, occasionally release it to keep it alive, then pick it back up. remember that you only need the female as long as you can find a wild male on the other end, the male's generations don't matter at all.

>>2188195>you just end up with people playing the game for you. This only happens to helpless lazy retards
>settled in a shit area with no ores>surrounded by large mountains so traveling sucksfuuck
>new multiplayer server>10 people play>within 3 IRL days it's finished and everyone has steel and sturdy backpacks>1-2 autists leftmany such cases!
>>2173270>weekendserb>174.73.170.143:42420>mod updates: https://pastebin.com/JE5XP82WGoooood morning, gang! Join us this weekend as we turn in our adventuring boots for Science wear and continue clearing the university to fund many mods that use steel and more, or join us later as we clear the final BetterRuin I can think of- the TEMPORAL CALIX PROJECT. If you're new just give me a holler or write to thread if something blows up and I'm not on, thanks!
>>2188377why do you have like 200 mods?
>>2188429Modular mod bloat by several creators. Instead of FORGOTTEN ARMORY or even GUNS I have to install GUN CORE, GUN ACCESSORIES, GUN MODELS, GUN CLASSES. This is the same for animals, electricity, and biomes. half of the mods are individual families of dinos and panther
>>2188441Why didn't you add Expanded Foods and ACA?
>>2188450We had them before on other weekend serb iterations I just didn't feel like it I think because fukamidori scared me out if it with a void soup
>>2188441Is it, though, bloat? I think it's a good practice, unless there's some performance bug with loading arbitrary amount of small mods which I don't think there is.
>>2188459It's not necessarily a bad thing the number padding just leads to questions like >>2188429 every week. Including the base mods packaged in Vintagestory/Mods the folder only weighs 271mb.
>>2188353congrats, you just described the life cycle of /vm/ VS for the last 6 years
Fug, my internet went down yesterday and it aint getting fixed till morrow now my food will fucking rot in my inventory
>>2188548If you're near Edin we have food for the rest of the week + damaged food in the field. If you are further lol
Where is a good place to usually settle?
>>2188557Near water and iron with a nice mild summer
Another bad elk brought to justice found wandering outside the highway
hytale general is actually slower than the vm thread
Barm I rotated the honey for you
this game is so fucking boring holy shit
It's most fun in the very early stages when you're cavemen, past then is bloat
new server please i hate joining when everyone is already done
>>2188377what version is this on I'm crashing on connect with 0 client mods
>>2188697dont even bother they have like 300000 mods and the servers laggy as shit
I got a bunch of copper tools. What's next? Is this the part where I mess with the prospecting pick?
>>2188697Im pretty sure 1.21.6>>2188695OG is all about starting fresh somewhere else sometime soon we'll have to coordinate on a new city.>>2188711Yeah once you have an anvil hammers and pick you can start making chests and lanterns to spruce up the place or begin searching for iron right away if you wanna make the jump up. You'll also need fireclay and some other stuff to cook the iron so if its any easier you might also want to consider stretching your copper out by finding something to make bronze.
>>2188701But enough about NOG kek yesterday I had a fellow on who complained that I was lagging the server for him by simply being online within 5000 blocks
so far not a single nog city is as souful as sahara was
>>2188755it will never be a real joyless
The Dusk Elf's brain literally melts upon coming into contact with the 1001 Mods of Plinth
>>2188268Orrr people who like to spend time chiseling instead of being progression bots
>>2188912Average jewish response.
>>2188240Never used underground farming but you can just have a glass roof, it works as a greenhouse.
>>2188685its a comfy game; basically harvest moon but with some cosmic horror monsters haphazardly placed and more importantly bears.
>>2188912People who spend all their time chisooling are playing the game. The people who spend all their time running around in circles complaining that there's nothing to do are not.
when you step in a barrel full of rotten fruit juice and crash
"Essential" mods that actually don't add fucking anything to the game>Combat overhaul>Better ruins
>>2188965I spend my time running around in circles because there's too much to get done and not enough time to do it all so I just go play something else instead
I don't get Hytale, what does it actually do better than minecraft and vintage story other than combat? And only just at that
>>2188963When I started playing a friend just went>careful with the animals, it's like haven & hearthand I instantly understood what I was getting into
What's the best crop mod? Anything that adds cotton or nettle? Maybe some way to cultivate fungus?
>>2189156too bad H&H is multiplayer only, if it had a single player mode it would be better than VS.
>>2188711Find TIN. You need TIN. THen you can mix it with copper to make some bronze, and then you set out and find Iron, which I haven't found yet and it's driving me mad.
Ok, the water physics is genuinely pretty amateurish and embarrassing. I'd say Minecraft unironically does it better.
>>2189219Either Wild Farming - Revival or Substrate adds farming mushrooms.
Other than Knapster are there other mods that makes the game accessible to boomers?
How do you jump in this game holy shit this game is so garbage
>>2189432press spaceretard
>>2189427All of salty's movement mods + the first person mod that adds camera shake to simulate epic quake movement
>>2188646Tried playing it for a bit. It's trash. Though I do like the idea of watching videos in game with frens like Swamp Cinema does.
>>2189219I know that Floral Zones: Caribbean Region adds cotton but no clue how it is.
nignog is down
Just got finished molding a clay oven.
>>2189252You can play it at the end of a long running world or at the start of one and get the singleplayer experience until a ruskie finds you and then it's game over.I used to play with this friend of mine just the two of us and we would get pretty far. If you know how to set a palisade up it's pretty much "safe" as long as you keep an eye out. We used to go pretty far. I wish vintage story had the animal husbandry mechanics from h&h.
>>2189454It's over...
Hop on NOW and join us on weekend serb to conquer the university! We got many people on
nOG got me in a homesteading mood, not gonna lie. When I joined Sahara it was still developing, early shit, no steel I think, plenty of people, now when I join nOG it just feels like an empty endgame if I join a town.
>>2189474its fun before the gopniks find you, I just wish the combat wasn't so shit.
