That's not the BDO/PA problem, they cornered their own progression paths for anyone that is not a vet with a 780+ GS. The game is a mess once you grow out of Tuvala and realize the TET to PEN Bossgear is a trap and PEN Bossgear to C10 and Base FG is another scam. Then you got a market showing so much gear that could be removed from the game as it has no purpose or right to exist anymore leading to more confusion etc.

They cleaned up some of the mess they created since Debos and Sovs with the academy and latest ball gifts.

The way they've been going about new gear has been horrible. Imo tapping tet to pen was a lot healthier and was less of a slog, and you also had caphras levels too so if you just weren't a lucky person you could still get those guaranteed stat increases. Hex to dec is like banging your head against that same pen wall 5 times in a row except now you absolutely can't afford to raw tap those later enhancements anymore. I dunno man it just feels bad having to rely on crons so much these days, and yeah sure they give out a lot of crons for free but that's a band-aid solution for an issue they created.

They conflated content with progression. World's too big. Incentive structure broke down into a massively stratified and largely pointless grind-climb. There was a kind of consistency which was still in play right up until about Ulukita - only just. LoML was already a big misstep by many accounts and the decision to repackage all the gear and add a bunch of new tiers was a bridge too far. People have lives and there's no cohesion because the top is way too big of an ask to reach. There seems to be no balance they're willing to strike between what compels players to login, play & progress against what generates profits for the company. The ocean of crons and outfit melting is not just a bad system, in my opinion it's what has caused the fucked up mindset to endlessly add new gear and progression. You can't fix this. Cron stones are the signal "you will never reach the cap, you will never be able to rest, the system will fight you the whole way and in a singular patch we can add hundreds of hours of progressive-RNG which you either must grind or swipe for".

This is literally why throne and liberty failed in korea, which I always thought it was funny since it failed in the west for entirely different reasons. I think progression is fine up to a point, then it starts to get absurd with NOV/DEC weapons required to do edania bosses or for top spots.
It's a "92 is the half of 99" situation where AP capped gear for orbita is around 1 trillion, and the next step requires 3 to 5T. So even worse than half.

I think it's by design to slow people down while they worked on crimson desert, so h(c)opefully it'll get better from now on.

The game isn't made for playing for just a short time, but you can definitely play casually. If you don't want to commit to an MMO with lots of grinding and intricate systems and minmaxing and afk playing then this might not be the game for you, however I would say that the world is great to explore with a lot of depth to almost all the locations, and the combat is satisfying for the most part. So if you already own the game then there's little reason not to see if you like it, but be aware that to play this as a main game it wants at least a fair bit of dedication.

Grim, I'm trying everywhere I can other than Velia. The money in Velia comes from the Silver Beltfish and there seem to be a few other spots which also give fish around that value, might be worth trying out some others if the population and/or trade bonuses are better.

I think the Mirumok Ruins in the Valtarra Mountains and Gyfin Rhasia Temple in the southern Kamasylvia mountains are some of my favourite places in the game. I once had an incredibly vivid dream where I climbed to the top of the Valtarra Mountains and there was a temple similar to Gyfin, but more grand, in better upkeep, and clearly implying there was something significant at the summit, but it was protected by super strong Gyfin-like monsters so I couldn't get there. The design was very reminiscent of the Spear Pillar from Sinnoh for those that have played Pokemon.

Way, way, way faster to farm the silver.
Bartering/Sailing are lifeskills that don't really interact much with the rest of the game. Ocean content is kinda stand-alone from the rest of the game aside from failstacks/meme frags when upgrading the ship gear.
As a result, the silver you can make from doing them is pretty damn low compared to other lifeskills like Gathering and Hunting. Even if you have red and yellow carracks in full +10 gear and a Nol, you still can't make ships faster than someone who just grinds mobs for silver and buys them.

The current Olvia Academy course shits out two Cogs to start with and then an Epheria Sailboat, but I think it isn't the 'improved' version. It also gets you up to Professional 1 in both Sailing and Batering, the former of which isn't as bad as it used to be to raise. As already mentioned, other than maybe Vell and Khan having their respective alchemy stones, it's pretty much its own beast. Blue Battlefield exists otherwise for naval PvP warfare.

If you want to go island hopping for any reason, Mythical Dine (or Krogdalo) can also run across water and reach close islands.

Video games solved this 40 years ago with something called CHARACTER LEVEL and, ironically, levels would make for a much better progression system compared to enhancing. Your level would show the time you put in the game without relying on RNG, right now you can grind 250 hours and have literally nothing so show for it.

Yeah it's a good time to start, what features of the game seem attractive to you?
Some basic tips:
Create a Season Character to start, they are designed to help more quickly gear up new players.
Don't open any permanent costumes or other bits e.g. Blackstar Weapon Boxes on a class until you've tried a few and know that you enjoy it, which mandates getting to at least level 60. There are loads of classes and they mostly all play very differently.
The game is very grindy but you can take it as serious or as casual as you like, and there are lots of alternatives to the main combat in the form of life skills.

Cosmetics are 'Character Bound' meaning they are locked to that specific character, not even sharable between two characters of the same class.
There's a Customise UI menu that you can play about with, almost everything can be turned off. For pop-ups that refer to things such as Central Market registrations, those can be toggled in the regular settings rather than the Customise UI menu.
PvE is the main way to earn silver so if you like that you'll do great, PvP is in varying states of alive and balance. You'll hear from some people in the thread that it's a shitshow and to never bother but that's mostly untrue, there are some uncapped modes where you'll get demolished unless you have 800+ GS but there are plenty of capped PvP options and even some which lend you gear to use, which are designed to be a bit easier for new players to get into. Arena of Solare will give you gear to use so you can try that straight away, but I'd seriously recommend learning a few classes and the combat CC system for a while first, since if you don't know it you'll be left a bit confused what's happening to you.
There is an EU guild called Cuties which is friendly and you're welcome to join.

- This game is often described as a grindy sanbox MMO. It's lost some of what made that true in the years but I think it's still correct. If you get bored questing or grinding or whatever then you can always try out a lifeskill.
- Speaking of lifeskills, after you graduate Season there's something called Olvia Academy to do which teaches you a lot and gives you decent rewards
- Don't use Crons for any Tuvala gear despite what the game may tell you, they're far too valuable for that
- Keep as much as you can in your Black Spirit's Safe (B), it's effectively an infinite storage whilst your storage in towns can fill up
- There are lots of systems in the game, some simple and some more complex. If you feel overwhelmed trying to understand them all, then you can without too much worry ignore them for a bit until you feel like you want to learn more. If you're like me and love to learn about some very complex system then you'll have a great time looking into worker empires and feeding your lifeskills

That's fine, I would recommend not spending loads early on until you know that you enjoy the game anyway, but the double Pearl deals are rare so now is by far the best time to pick some up.

pa fucked up by not making land of the morning light super op. it should have powercrept most of the game. most of the afk people should be in random spots in loml and most of the people actively playing should be grinding and lifeskilling there. the most relevant node war and siege tiers should have been happening there. by all intents and purposes it should have been their restart of the game world as far as where the players are congregated at.

i don't really care about the setting at all honestly, it's just weird playing this, walking through towns and they're all utterly devoid of players except for velia and sorta heidel, especially compared to what it used to be where some random place such as kamasylvia or altinova had people afk or running errands in town between grinds. absolutely nothing about land of the morning light or edania congregated players in a way that at least give off the illusion that the game is still bustling outside of velia beach, and that makes me feel like the new regions are pointless when they don't offer anything new except for like a couple of grind spots and maybe some shitty chore bosses. like why did they even make seoul as big as it is if exactly zero players were ever going to make it their hub, move their home there because they didn't add any player housing there since they knew it was useless fluff to begin with, grind in spots near that area, afk fish there, etc. what's the point? same with edania. now people are.... grinding stars end and sycraia again because of some arbitrary number change instead of an actual lore related expansion to that area?
