Trying out to see if there's a interest in a Mario Kart Wii thread on /vm/ since the game is still very active online with various distributions. Maybe we can set up a game night at one point?

>How do i play MKWII in [current year]
Console or Dolphin, both platforms can play together, ISO can be acquired on the internet archive, check the pastebin

>What's the best way to play online
There are various track distributions run by different communities
Vanilla experience: Wiimmfi, but requires a 2 week waiting period for signing up
CTGP: Mostly cater to e-sports tryhards, requires a actual console, no Dolphin allowed. Not very active outside tourneys
Retro Rewind: By far the most active, currently peaks at around 100-200 players daily. Features all tracks, plus playlists for custom tracks.
Deluxe: Custom tracks, custom balancing so no funky kong flame runner meta. Has different versions with different characters/karts/bikes etc. Less active than RR but still playable at nights and weekends.

Post your friend codes in the thread, and what distro you are playing on

Also for linux fags this is very easy to set up on Steam Deck, or your desktop, theres a flatpak for Wheel Wizard, that you can add as a non steam game, and it takes care of everything as long as you have the Distro

>does not spoonfeed installation instructions
This thread is not friendly towards the retards.

Yea I guess you are right, but there's a billion guides on setting up Dolphin or letterbombing your Wii. I'll find them later when I'm not phone posting and link them in the thread.

Drag into your games folder in Dolphin, on Wii you add it as a Riivolution mod

By far the easiest way to get started is just download Dolphin, a MKWii ISO and then Wheel Wizard and it sets everything up for Retro Rewind
