>obscene p2w cash shop>engine/netcode so bad there's a built-in 300ms delay>on top of that, lag that's so at times that you'll rubberband>game is extremely grindy, as in 100s of hours just to hit max level, then 100s more to be as strong as other max level playersWhat's the appeal?
>>2281179...It's in the title.
>>2281179Some people like LotR a lot. So they might look past these problems.
>>2281179i have not played in years but i am a huge lord of the rings nerdThe story of this game is very well done, especially when compared to the amazon show
>>2281179It is super comfyProbably the most comfy MMO experience of them all
>>2281179>buy in 2016>play for 10 hours>never touched it againGame was gay
>>22811791. Amazing lore, great world building and tons of content2. The ability to pay for everything (even expansions and newer classes) by doing deeds3. Great crafting4. Great community (not like FFXIV, it's actually good)You're not gonna enjoy the game if you feel like you need to "catch up" to old players. Just enjoy the questing until then. I just started playing it last week and am already 60h in and I gotta say the early questing especially is super fun and I can't wait to start on the first expansion. Admittedly I also hate how outdated and mobile game-esque the monetization feels but it has some quirks that make it pretty generous (Like being able to keep some of the VIP status perks even after it expires or Deeds)
>>2283579This. Also, I really like festival events and these are my chief reason for returning to LotRO from time to time.
Play Echoes of Angmar for the trve LOTRO experience.
>>2281179For the last 4 years they've been giving away free quest coupons that unlocks 99% of the quest packs and 4 expansions. All free. The last 1% quest packs also go on sale for 99 LOTRO points which you can get in around 1-2 hours if you're new.Last year I used the free quest code and I have pretty much everything unlocked except for the last 3 expansions. I still have years worth of content I have to get through before I need to buy the expansions or else I run out of content. The cash shop is pretty bad since it sells a lot of QoL stuff though like shared banks and more inventory spaces, etc. But if you absolutely don't want to spend money then you can grind out points to buy them. Although people really should at least spend the minimum amount of money to upgrade their account to a premium account. That also unlocks a lot of stuff.

>>2284327>true lotro experience>less than 100 players online
>>2285628If you want to pay $15/mo instead of using a coupon that you get for free, then go right ahead.
>>2285737That's how it was on official servers before the merger.>>2281179It's not about raids and endgame, it's about the journey.>>2283579This.
>>2286055>It's not about raids and endgame, it's about the journey.I love LoTR but I'm no expert on the lore. Which is the main reason why I kinda want to play the game. I want to learn the lore.ButHow much lore am I missing if I don't do any group content?
>>2286132Barely any honestly. The linear questline doesn't include raids/dungeons
>>2281179Has the cash shop gotten worse or something? Back in the day, the only really 'bad' thing you could do was buy those stat increase books that the Watcher would drop (which constituted as barely anything past about level 60).
>>2287121It's been the same. Hasn't gotten worse but it still sucks. Like faster mounts. Or able to trade. Or able to use a shared bank. Those are like the main things people should get and costs a fair bit. You could get the last two if you're a VIP, but that's $15 a month.
