same here.... I got the game for a dollar and it's been super fun so far, but I started outleveling the content of the storyline about 20 min into the game.
I'm almost 60 now and the only time I've used more than 1 skill to kill fight was against that griphon rift boss....
Most of my skills I have no clue what they even do.

But not really. Maybe the tent? Only if you're seriously committed, and it's on a heavy discount. You can also craft a lesser one in game.
Events pretty much give out everything you might need, but it's sprinkled in so you just gotta stockpile over time as you play. Pets, Theiah's orbs, maids, outfit boxes etc.
Definitely get maids if an event offers them after you secure an outfit.
I wouldn't spend an additional cent on this game.

Depends on what it is you're doing, but acquiring at least five pets is important for PvE later because they provide an autoloot function. There's a handful of free one-offs you can get by following the main questlines up to Mediah on top of whatever newbies get for attendance and also season seals. The buyable packs include Tier 3 ones, of wihch upgrading pets isn't exactly a fun affair if you don't want to risk going nowhere with them, but you'll probably get a fair few free ones from events overtime to alleviate it anyway.

Maids are good but you can also just overload vendor trash onto a horse if you're about to be over-encumbered if grindan. There's a tent item whose 'free' equivalence is mostly a daily silver upkeep and is probably the most notable usable paid item; PA does sell a fair few others now that have practical functions, but they're mostly superfluous, niche, or you can work around not having them. You also get a welfare mythical horse that will eliminate any and all actual need to worry about getting one with all the skills, so no need to fuss around with too many of the Training ones.

I'm wondering what to do with all the free Blackstar stuff they gave us in Olvia Academy.
I'm way past that on my main Musa but I have a semi-alt Maehwa that I've given most of the freebies and leftover gear to: PEN boss helmet, gloves and boots, TRI Fallen God, TET Blackstar Weapons and PEN Capotia accessories. I could use the PEN enhancement materials and the free PEN to make the primary weapon into a Sovereign, or I could just enhance to PEN and give the other free PEN/TET Blackstars to my next most favoured class, Drak.
Obviously the real solution is to not bother with any of this and just change my tag when I wan to play one of these classes, but I can't make any money off the free gear so I may as well try to use them.

What does BDO do so much better than other KMMOs that is allowing it to survive and even thrive in the MMO space? I mean all the other KMMOs have died out completely. Lost Ark is most likely going EoS shortly, as they're laying off a lot of their Western staff. TnL same thing. But BDO maintains a fairly large audience by comparison.

I gave a fair chance (100ish hours) but ultimately dropped LA because of the gated content, the alts you had to play to pass on the materials and the bullshit currency exchange. It's hard to compare to BDO because they're so different, yes there's some gated content here too but beside that there isn't much. Class balance was also terrible, i like tanking so i made a shield&lance guy, got to entry level dungeons for the enhancement materials and i did 30k damage with small AoE. Made a wizard lady, got the to same point, and had a great time with 200k-1M huge AoE screen blasting. Yeah i know both classes can achieve good damage, but the starting experience was wildly different, and it felt like i wasted my time.
I didn't particularely care for the bots, they infested the game, and more than anything the refusal to address the problem had a bigger impact on LA's decline than the bots had. Just unwilling devs if not accomplices to the RMTing going on, or worse, incompetent devs were really bad marketing. This went on for years AFAIK.

TnL i knew i was going to drop from the start, as i'm sure did many others. It was built about the same as LA, same gated bullshit, same shallow RNG enhancing, but it had the mass pvp aspect. That's a negative in my opinion as it just rewarded whales even more, i've heard a whale could fend off 5-10 people with the gear difference.
I enjoyed the leveling campaign but after getting to endgame my choices were a bunch of quests of "kill 8 undead" to collect RNG shinies and i just stopped caring, i wasn't going to invest my time day after day on such low effort shit. Also i hated the "turn into a mount" system, i'd rather have something my character can ride than turn into a duck or some other animal, and it wasn't that much faster than running to be honest, we have it good with BDO gigafast mounts.

Basically, in my opinion, BDO still has several strong sandbox elements going on that set it apart from the average themepark slop.

Despite all of our bitching about the p2w gear treadmill and whatnot, it's still by far the least brutally p2w korean MMO that's ever existed. It's also a really solid overall game as an MMO, it doesn't have ridiculous insane powercreep in the way something like DN did. Like yeah we're basically playing BDO 3 at this point with how different classes are now compared to in 2016 or even in 2019, but if it were any other korean MMO every class would be a god with obnoxiously large screen wide AoEs with a million hits per skill by this point. It's definitely showing its age as a korean mmo with the large amount of bloat you'd typically expect, but they've at least tried to rear back on it over time so it's not as bloated as it could be.

Also the customer support is very good, getting a ticket answered within a week is unheard of with korean mmos. Nexon used to take literal months to respond when I played maple, dunno if it's like that now. Every ticket I've ever sent to PA was answered within a day or two, maybe a week at most. The CMs are active and actually have a presence in the game, a lot of people are familiar with them and recognize their names. Most of the CMs are veteran players who had a positive reputation in their region before they became a CM, they're relatable because they're all players and they aren't actually shitters either. At this point I think the most common complaint I've seen amongst long term players now is that PA doesn't do enough exciting, sweeping changes to the game that shake things up, and that it experiences long periods of stagnation, only really adding new gear and new samey grind spots here or there, or some new crystal, or a new lightstone upgrade, which I can kind of agree with.

You can turn off many UI elements but i think you need level 20 or something? In any case it's up to you to customize it, if you keep seeing things pop up on screen like horses being registred on the market you can turn those alerts off.
The story is mid, i wouldn't bother with it just for CD.
You will oneshot mobs until you're done with season, ideally around level 61+ (5-12 hours for a new player, 20+ if you take your time or even longer if you listen to the quests). After season you can go to spots that require you to do a skill combo rotation. Everything i said should have an asterisk though, there's exceptions and caveats. Game is notoriously super confusing for new players and a veteran explaining you shit is recommended.

Idunno about the EU CMs but I assume Ronin is or was a pvper. I think there's a fine line between someone who is a shitter and always was and someone who's washed up because they got a job at the company. The ones who aren't good at pvp are still fairly knowledgeable about the game since they were dedicated players before they were CMs. What I meant is that this makes them more relatable than some faceless literal who that doesn't interact with the community and has no experience with the game outside of it being a job for them a shitter, which historically has been most GMs throughout all korean mmos.

I think I spent more like 200-250 billion silver but it was definitely worth it!
Opening the Patrigio's Secret Boxes gave me 176 Hidden and four Stashed, then from the Hidden boxes another 22 Patrigio's Secret Boxes so in the end it was five total Stashed boxes and the rest Hidden. I got rather lucky with the Stashed boxes, in total from the whole event I got 91,483 Crons. Not pictured is also three +250 stacks and some Dim Origins.
