We have a /vm/ guild that has been running near weekly events for over 3 years now with over 60+ logins in the last week in our alliance for anyone interested in doing endgame content, new players are always welcome and no prior experience is needed.

>>2314719 Previous Thread

Anet has released a brand new dungeon in pre searing, the first bit of real "new content" the game has experienced in more than 15 years, patch notes about it are at bottom of this post.

Sweet treat week starts later today and will go for the next week, get to farming your golden eggs.

The 21st anniversary will start this year on April 22nd more details in the post below this.

I AM STILL SEARCHING FOR BUILDS TO ADD TO OUR BAWWBUILDS COLLECTION IF YOU HAVE SOME YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE POST TO THREAD.

The 21st anniversary begins Wednesday April 22nd. Following our yearly tradition I will be giving out free store codes both ingame, and on thread. Anyone is welcome to claim the codes just post if you find one, I will be hiding them inside pictures posted to thread. This will start NEXT thread.

We will also be doing HA in order to obtain proof's of steel every day of the festival.

>What's a proof of steel?
Proof's of Steel can be acquired from doing the daily quest which requires winning a single HA game and can be traded for either 3 zkeys, or 15 flames of balth. Because HA is heavily botted this makes it extremely easy to win a match, effectively it takes about 5 minutes and you win 6-15e worth of loot.
>I've never done PvP before, will I be ok to come?
The past 2 years more than 50% of our group is brand new to HA when we do these runs, I've set them up to slowly teach the mechanics of HA along with easing people into roles picrel is the team build we will use for the first week. It's very much a cheese build but it's idiot proof and I think it's a great introduction to "baby's first spike team". I will call a target, you will press a button. 90% of the time we will be fightings bots anyway so I wouldn't worry too much about needing high technical skill.
>Do I need to join voice comms?
We do not use voice comms this is meant to be a super casual foray into PvP to become wealthy and let people experience a bit of content they would not otherwise glance at.

If you are interested in joining us for HA please fill out the lettucemeet so I know what time to plan, in the past we've had 6-9 people show up but given how our alliance size has grown the last year I may need to set up MULTIPLE different times per day. Ignore the dates just fill out when you are "generally" free for mon/tues/wed/thurs etc... I start new job on 27th so my hours may change.

You wanted BAWWbuilds, so I'll give you another:

This works best in large, hardy groups like Slaver's Exile. Target an enemy that is in good position and won't die before you get all your skills off. Cast from left to right and repeat (+ energy skill of your choice).

Fevered Dreams applies Dazed.
>>
>>2340285
For those who do not know these skills by heart, this build applies all of these conditions in the area and triggers Fragility on the enemies (AoE armor ignoring damage) each time a condition is gained or lost):
Dazed
Crippled
Poison
Weakness
Bleed
Diseased
Cracked Armor
Deep Wound

I'm following https://gwpvx.fandom.com/wiki/Build:Team_-_7_Hero_Beginner_Team which is working out nicely for the heroes, since it doesn't need EotN skills to work.
But majority of the builds all have EotN skills or need them to work for personal builds.
Luckily the Necro minion master one works still without them. But it really lacks build diversity and relies too much on EotN.
>>
>>2340620
You see EotN PvE skills on lots of builds because they're incredibly imbalanced. Basically an "I don't want to interact with the game" button whether it's Pain Inverter "insta kill any boss" or "I Am Unstoppable" (ignore any movement debuffs) or Asuran Scan (melee counters? what are those?).

Exceptionally good guide for how to turn off your brain and have no fun while you're at it.
>>
>>2340630
>Exceptionally good guide for how to turn off your brain and have no fun while you're at it.
This is why we need alternative beginner party compositions to help the newfriends out. They go to PvX and grab the one (1; singular) beginner group build.
>>
>>2340630
I'm having to use it because of how much of a difficulty spike for Nightfall, in terms of enemies ganking and multi-grouping.
I tried having 1 melee in my group and that just made other enemy groups get pulled in and wiping me.
In Prophesies it feels WAY more balanced. Factions has some group problems, but you can still kite. Nightfall feels like to kite you need to constantly move your henchmen back to then fight. That's just not fun for me.
>>
>>2340646
what we need are guides about actual solid team comp and buildcraft principles, good descriptions of what each class can actually do, and zero specific skill or build suggestions so new players actually learn how to build and enjoy the game themselves
>>
>>2340654
I think it would be splendid if one of our resident autistic knowledge repositories volunteered themselves to write up some form of a new player FAQ.
>>
>>2339988
In terms of getting ready for this, I will prepare some of the builds depending on the classes I have. I don't have ele or monk tho (just mesmer, rit, ass and derv).

Also, how should I get ready for other endgame guild stuff, like DoA?
>>
>>2339988
>I've never done PvP before, will I be ok to come?
Bawwway PvP be like
>Arr Nine Kay [Baww] is now holding Hall of Heroes.
>>
>>2340659
If you have a free character slot, you can just create a PvP elementalist that way.
>>
>>2340646
>>2340654
>>2340656
If someone is willing to make a guide I would be ok with creating a section for it on our PvX page I am building for Bawwbuilds.

>>2340659
Like other anon mentioned, creating a PvP ele is the easiest way, just unlock the skills on your PvE character if you want to prepare.

In the past we've had people show up on characters who are missing 30 attributes, wearing wrong armor, missing skills and we still run with it, I appreciate people who do properly set it up.

The first week we'll be playing invoke memes, second week we'll be playing spiritway which is a party comp of 4 warriors, a spiritgay ranger playing infuriating heat, resto rit, and ST rit, and a HB monk. The 3rd week we'll be playing a more normal modern balanced set up.

I would still highly recommend you have a PvP ele set up though because even if we're not going to do a "proper" team we can still do other quick 5 min cheese strats to get a single win and quit.

>>2340630
you're advising a new player to basically just suffer, get frustrated, and give up, especially if they're melee.
You can't bring enough hex clears, condition clears, etc to keep perma blindness from 3+ skeletal wizards or water elementals (blurred vision) off you. Maybe if enemy formations couldn't stack professions in the group so you only had to worry about 1-2 sources of blindness per group you could deal with it with just getting the condition removed, but when each skeletal wizard has 2 sources of blindness and there's 4 of them in a pull, you're never going to shake off blindness long enough to do damage, as soon as you get blinding surge off, it's back on.
"interact with the game" is kind of an oxymoron if you're standing there unable to connect with anything because you're just chain blinded.
as it is even with those skills you still get hexed to shit with clumsiness, ineptitude, water snares, etc faster than you can clear hexes cause again, 4-6 frozen elementals each with 2 66% snares + blurred vision each, and 2 Avalanches with 2 66% snares... in a single pull.
That's a lot of hexes, you won't possibly clear them all off. You won't even get in melee range of that group without a shadow step, or skill that makes you immune to spells like vow of silence, obsidian flesh, or shadow form.
Is that what you find fun for some reason? Just being rendered inert by chain blinds and blurred vision?

how do i play this game? i like shit games like old RO and maplestory. tried gw2 but was not a fan of it
>>
>>2341515
Skill issue, don't advise new players because you somehow still are one even if you've been playing for 15 years
>>
>>2341525
what skill issue? Condition applying skills recharge faster than most condition clearing skills, and hexes get applied way faster than you can clear them being that the shortest cooldown hex remover is like 7s and clears 1 hex when you get a stack of like 3 on you at a time that get instantly reapplied when they get cleared.
That's just the game when they stack 3+ of one build per pull.
You hate people stacking multiple mesmers so bad, enemy groups do it all the time.
>>
using toolbox to make macros to auto flag heroes or have heroes target you and use skills on you with a single keypress is more "not interacting with the game" than using any PVE skill.
But people here say using PVE skills is cheating but using a 3rd party addon that allows you to set macros is .. fine?

do you think no one used to beat this game before 7 heroes? he's playing nm nightfall, not slaver's exile, he can figure out a goofy punishment build if it's a problem
>>
>>2341627
who said anything about beating the game?
You can beat the game with all the melee counters on you with your NPC's or party members doing all the work,
it's just not fun.
You're saying that it's fun to be standing useless whiffing around while chain blinded while casters in your party do all the work, and saying it's unfun to be able to use a hex that lets you hit a single target while you're blind to at least not be shut down completely.
You can beat the game, but not have fun doing it.
I'm referring to vanquishing a zone earlier today on a melee without Asuran scan or IAU, because I haven't done those quests yet. I got it done, it wasn't hard
but it also wasn't fun because of all the blind, hexes, and snares that stuck.

Everyone assumes that if you complain about something in the game it's because you can't beat it.
Oh you can beat it fine but it doesn't mean it was fun or engaging to do.
>>
>>2341635
>who said anything about beating the game
I dunno, who said anything about vanquishing eotn zones when the new player in question is in kourna where there's basically no blind

>Alt account (just make a lot of NF or factions alts, give em bags and bank and park them in shing jea or kama)
>Character slot on main
>Normal bank
>Material storage (all you're gonna save is like maybe 7-10 slots)
>>
>>2341635
Have you actually tried it?
You are not crippled/blinded that often, and it it really bothers you just pick antidote signet
>>
>>2341650
well not much blind in kourna maybe the stormseed plants, and I can't remember if those mesmer birds used ineptitude or clumsiness
but I suppose Kourna isn't very difficult unless you assault the garrisons in each zone, The major threat there is meteor and .. not focus firing down the priests spamming zealous benediction

Vabbi will be where it can get challenging, roaring ethers
>>
>>2341699
If he ever encounters a situation where he has to stop doing max training dummy rotation damage for three seconds, he considers that to be "shut down" and "totally inert" and "not having fun." That one second cast time on Antidote Signet? He would shrivel and die, it needs to be instant cast.
>>
>>2341668
yeah I've done all this content on multiple casters and a ranger and paragon
I am wanting to do some of it on melee now.

antidote signet means you can't take a shadow step, meaning water snares are now your hard counter

yup I even put hex eater vortex on 2/3 of my dom mesmers, and changed the ST to an Rt/Mo for remove hex, the lowest cooldown hex removal I could get, that's 6 hex removal skills and it's still not enough.
Nigga you get hit with like 10 hexes in a window of about 6s.
>>
>>2341994
Can you post your team build? Cause I suspect you're not running enough rupts/arcane conundrum. It's just you experiences are so outside what mine are that something has got to be different
>>
>>2341994
works on my machine
>>
>>2341995
the changes from merc mesmerway default build are:
1. All 3 Dom mesmers have the res (was tired of the 2 with reses dying and being left with no option other than to wipe)
2. Illusion Mesmer uses Shared Burden instead of Ineptitude (NPC mesmer uses ineptitude really poorly, they cast it on spellcasters or enemies too far back where it wears off before they attack)
3. 2/3 of the dom mesmers were using Hex Eater vortex instead of esurge, I could have done all 3 but I thought keeping esurge on 1 would help when there were no hexes on pulls like kveldulfs and centaurs and mountain pinesouls
4. the ST uses Rt/Mo instead of Rt/P, I sacrificed a fall back for a hex removal skill, they also use Spirit's Gift rather than the signet. The signet was a pain in the ass cause they felt the need to stop and cast it while the rest of the group was on the move. Spirit's gift allows for mass condition removal which is pretty useful when heroes run over traps or things like mandragor packs or you have disease which spreads through all your heroes.
5. The BiP has strip enchantment rather than blood bond. Healing wasn't much of an issue, and having more than 1 enchant strip is beneficial when they don't prioritize critical enchants but strip attunements.

But the 3 mistrusts, 3 cry of frustrations, 3 power drains, and 3 shatter hexes are all there, and I am doubling up on spellcasting slowdown skills between shared burden and arcane conundrum because heroes are dumb and will use shared burden or arcane conundrum on a single melee running towards you so I took redundancy.
>>
>>2342018
What flavor of melee are you playing?
>>
>>2342022
was doing a derv PR, I should have gone Avatar of Dwayna I guess
I thought 6 hex removals would be enough, I was wrong.
but partway through a VQ I don't want to start over to change things up, I was still clearing it, it just wasn't fun to be near immobilized and 50% miss chance on every one of those frozen elemental/avalanche packs or jotun packs with more than 1 mesmer spamming clumsiness/ineptitude on me. so I just had to let heroes carry me in those situations. I was kinda dumb and swapped out DC for fleeting stability cause I knew knockdowns were going to be an issue, but the water hexes really fucked me over without a shadow step.
>>
>ecto selling for 13k
>>
actually the one change I kind of want to make but waffle about actually doing it is changing Spiritual Pain for something else.
on the one hand it's good "idiot proof damage" on paper, but on the other hand, they are idiots and with the increased nature spirit range they'll detect a spirit up on a cliff and run through multiple groups of enemies trying to reach a spirit of toxicity that isn't even in aggro range
>>
>>2342030
I think avatar of dwayna and all this bruteforce hex clear is over thinking it as much as I love hex eater vortex. Just run Pious Restoration so you can keep yourself clear. At 4 attribute points it clears 2 hexes and recharges every 8 seconds. If you're playing a wind prayers build you can easily get up to 3 hex clears from it.

ESPECIALLY if you're playing pious renewal, pious restoration is incredibly free pick.
>>
>>2342041
I've generally gone Earth Prayers rather than wind, honestly my Derv's setup was more for VOS with an Earth head and when I go PR it's a bit of fuckery that isn't ideal but she wears vabbian so getting multiple gear sets to swap like that is more expensive than I'd like, but I still like armor of sanctity which helps fuel reap impurities.
>>
>>2342045
that's what makes pious restoration so good, it requires very little investment for massive self hex removal.

On your ST instead of going Rt/Mo for remove hex, consider going Rt/N for Withering Aura if you want extra fuel for your reap impurities. I personally prefer to have my ST run SoH and micro it onto myself when I play melee, but withering can be quite nice too.

>>2342047
SoH is on the SoS, I was considering Withering Aura because it worked very well for my Hammer War and Hammer Monk, but I thought Armor of Sanctity helped cover that on derv, I just don't have any gearing for wind prayers.
When I went PR I was just basically dropping Earth from 16->12 and raising Scythe from 9->13 since I only do a minor scythe (again my derv has mostly just been used for farming for the past several years and so they've been VoS build).. it works for hex light areas but if hexes are a major concern, that's where I just seemingly cannot keep enough hex removals.
>>
>>2342050
wew
>>
>>2342052
It's pretty easy to get other gearing y'know. Just buy a normal max armor headgear piece or whatever you've got the +earth prayers on and swap it for a +wind prayers or +scythe mastery. Costs like 2 plat at most.

I would personally drop earth from 12 to 11 and just take pious restoration, the heros don't have great priority on who they remove hexes (though they will usually wait to make sure there is something nearby whatever they are casting shatter hex on). And being able to self remove impactful hexes that are preventing you from being able to do damage will likely be more beneficial to you but it really depends on if you know what's in the area or not, pious restoration is my go to when I know I'm going to have a full row of hexes.

Not applicable to you, but for anyone else reading this - in caster teams where you don't have a melee, hex eater signet can be a great role compression skill to run for mass AoE hex clears.
>>
>>2341412
Can't remember, but it started around that lower area of Nightfall's started island.
There was that defend some NPC quest where mobs keep spawning in.
Then the southeastern part (last area) had a lot of mob density and mobs just nuking my parties with AoE DoTs.
The base defense mission was also an insane spike in difficulty/dmg taken and mob spawns.
I wish Prophesies had the Nightfall/Faction skills because Proph is much cozier. Only mission I had a problem was the ice one where you had to take an NPC to a ballista.

but I use vabbian for my other 4 pieces, so either I only have a max of 13 scythe mastery (which is kinda low for a PR build all said, shouldn't I be running 16?, for VOS you go 16 earth cause your damage is coming from VOS and Sand Shards), or I'd go a scythe mastery head and need an alternate set of Vabbian Gauntlets... that's a bit more than 2k.

If you were willing to throw your points from earth to wind, you could technically replace armor of sanctity with grenth's aura to fill a similar role. Instead of armor reducing damage you'd have grenth to heal on attack, reap impurities be a bit harder to use but if you stuck withering aura on another hero you could still manage it.

Also for anyone interested tomorrow at 3 PM EST maybe we'll do that HM DoA run
>>
>>2342820
Garbo greens yeah
>>
>>2343072
I could but I am also noticing that even without runes having 4 wind and 7 earth (though I don't like the redundant minor scythe mastery I have on my gloves but not really willing to buy more vabbian pieces with sapphires being pretty pricey right now), I can still get decent use out of armor of sanctity.
It's something worth trying I guess.
also considering just using twin moon sweep as my other scythe attack rather than reap impurities. I usually use PR if I'm solo with heroes specifically because balling things up doesn't work as well when enemies peel off to attack heroes, so less big aoe booms. If I was getting big aoe balls I'd just use VoS. If I'm with a human group I use VoS because things ball up better when you don't have hero AI trying to "kite"

This is something they "fixed" in Factions and Nightfall. There, quests often reward tokens you can trade for stuff like bags and id/salvage kits so that you're not spending all your money on it.
They adjusted Prophecies in Reforged mode to give gold for quest rewards to help with this.

>>
Is this a hot take?
Wand wrappings of the necromancer are inferior, if you're going to sacrifice a HSR and only have 20% HSR, you might as well use a staff so that the HSR is for all skills, then slap Adept head and Inscription with the Necro staff wrapping 20% HSR for all spells > 2 energy. This also applies for all other profession wrappings.
The only exception I could see is using a shield offhand instead of a focus but then you forgo all HSR. I don't think it's worth it.

>>
>>2344044
Yeah the consensus among people in the know is that staves are better if you're using Soul Reaping mods. The global HSR inherent is surprisingly often overlooked.
>>
>>2344177
Of course you can have heroes in the menagerie. That's how you get evolved pets for them. I've used it a ton of times when I was collecting and leveling every pet to max on my rangerway team.

The Rainbow Phoenix won't spawn if you have heroes in your party when entering, but that's literally the only nonstandard interaction that place has with heroes.
>>
>>2344044
40/40 or bust, 20 is too cucked
>>
>>2343931

>>
>>2343949
You should play with smiting some. Holy damage does double against undead so your going to get great usage out of it in Kryta. Try messing with Judge's Insight for starters.
Also fuck that guy telling you to use a roller beetle. It's meta BS and they move slowly.
>>
>>2344866
but why would you do that though, only 12 axe mastery and no armor pen, daggers would mog.

I was just kind of thinking of a crackhead idea, if my IAS is not a stance, I can use charging strike, which works pretty well with an axe.
>>
>>2345050
Loads of energy to spam axe attacks plus lots of AoE plus every hit is a crit (28+ with axe vs 17+ with daggers) plus you can actuall keep Critical Agility up + most axe skills have armor pen + you can use an Of the Warrior if you want.
>>
>>2344631
I like staves better than wand focus for most player builds since you're less likely to use a full bar of spells from a single attribute. For heroes 40/40 is obvious for the damage dealers, but supports often use staves too because N/Rt is going to be using both blood magic spells and Restoration magic spells (and most the time they'll be carrying an urn anyway), or for say your ST wearing double superiors, they'll want +60 health on their weapon more than HSR or HCT since most the bar isn't even spells just your enchant.
When you add in profession wraps it seems even more heavily weighted towards staves because now with a wand focus you're getting 12 energy, HCT 40 with your 1 attribute and HSR 20 with 1 attribute. With staff it'd be 10 energy, HCT 40 with your 1 attribute (or possibly 2 if you get some crazy OS with double 20% HCT for 2 different attributes, can that even happen?), and 20% HSR for all attributes, then you get your necro wrap.
2 energy vs the HSR applying to all spells.. I'm gonna go with the universal HSR

But people still rec wand/focus for heroes in mesmerway with necro wraps. I'd go staff, though reality is I wouldn't spend the money for necro wraps on mesmer heroes, and just use 40/40's.

>>2344798
if you're using an "of the Necromancer" mod for energy management you've already sacrificed the other HSR.
>>
>>2345059
I can keep critical agility up with daggers just fine, they attack fast enough and DB is aoe, and dagger also has some forced auto crits if you find you really have to have them (Malicious strike, or you can A/W and use wild blow)

Warrior is just the prof I can think of where an "of the Assassin" mod might open up a build to use Critical Agility on a secondary Assassin, well, Paragon too but Paragon not going /W is kind of dumb. Some spear dps build I guess.
I wish ranger had some forced crit bow attack so that I could use critical agility on a bow for IAS

Bro your shadow theft?
>>
>>2345209
that could be 20 dagger mastery though, rather than I guess 17 axe mastery
>>
>>2344044
Not really. Only reason to use of the necro wands is specifically for mesmerway heroes who drop all inspiration and were only caring about the dom skills recharges anyways, so it's +2 energy vs the staff. Alternatively for player builds that might want to change between a focus or shield, or swap in a high energy set while keeping the mod. General use though yeah staff is more comfortable
>>
>>2345215
I mean sure but any discussion of axes vs daggers is gonna find in daggers favor because they have the better attack skills. ST is still the best assassin elite for axes.
>>
>>2345264
yeah but what I'm mainly looking for is uses of critical agility that can be opened up by a non assassin using an assassin weapon mod. There is some benefits to it like I said, charging strike which is a stance but you can use it as a primary attack skill because it hits hard, but if you're using a stance for your IAS you'll drop your IAS every time you use charging strike.
using of the assassin on war can work since wild blow, but with sword you're probably going to want to use 100b, I just don't see sword outside of that cause the rest of sword's skills suck.
I suppose you could also do this with hammer of the assassin I just don't have a hammer grip of the assassin but I do have an axe grip of the assassin.
Also when using hammer it feels like a waste to not use a knockdown elite, but I guess you could just rely on yeti smash for knockdown and use wild blow to keep critical agility up.. but you'd have to use wild blow literally every time it's off cooldown to maintain. Keen chop is much easier to keep it going.
>>
>>2345280
You'd probably need malicious strike. Wild blow will kill your adrenaline and heavy use of that will mean you'd rely on mostly energy skills on warrior without warriors endurance. Could get manually bipped ig but that means you can't reliably play this while pugging since it's not always your bip
>>
>>2345296
which is why keen chop becomes a very easy skill to maintain it with. 3 adrenaline guaranteed critical hit (so I guess it ends up being minor energy management in a small way)
charging strike itself is a pretty serious energy drain for a warrior though.so you'd mostly want adrenal skills.
you'd need to kinda use withering aura just as a cover enchant.
But Charging strike just hits so hard now that I'm looking for ways to use it. It's actually a pretty fun skill to use. sprinting around and hitting hard.
>>
>>2345307
Yeah I was saying with regard to have running this idea on hammer. Keen chop is the reason I'd consider axe.
Can't really cover enchant critical agility. It constantly is reapplying itself so it's always on top
>>
>>2344044
well what about caster spears running the necro mod
>>
>>2345414
that's not a wand wrapping, and that's mainly for kinda niche uses like fooling enemy AI into not using anti caster skills on you

so I ran a dungeon doing the critical agility axe with charging strike, it does work, but yeah stormcloud incubus strip it a lot and you do either have to wait between pulls or chain pull right into the next fight cause it drops really fast, compared to on a sin where you're able to keep it up between pulls as long as you can get in a crit within a few seconds of the next pull. It's also incredibly energy intensive. If you have QZ or Quicksand in the area it's not viable to spam charging strike and cyclone axe like I was doing. Part of the issue is just me knowing that Charging strike is the most damage I can do whenever it's up so I gravitated to it, other part was one of my adrenal skills I chose was body blow, but my source of cracked armor was not the most reliable (mark of fury on my BIP) so I wasn't getting as much out of it, should have just used dismember

>>2346815
I mean maybe, but the whole point was I want to fit in charging strike and dash around smacking niggaz for +80 damage
it does work, and it is fun, it's just pretty hectic trying to keep the enchant up and you're constantly at 5 energy or less, and outside of combat it's hopeless so you might need to wait a few seconds before pulling, and you almost want to wait for after you get in melee to cast the enchant, but if you bow pull, cast enchant, charging strike and your BIP put mark of fury on it's enough to get keen chop off to refresh then you can go into other attacks.
fun but kinda dicey.

Mostly I'm just trying out some of these skills that got buffed recently. Make Your Time being fit into an Imbagon build was a hit.
this is.. it works but I don't know if I'd outright advise it.
>>
>>2346825
if it ain't broke, don't fix it
>>
>>2346836
I think the answer is just drop the IAS, honestly. IAS and IMS were purposefully difficult to max both. IAS is generally limited to stances outside of a few beast mastery things, so if you're using a stance that doesn't give it, you're gonna have a hard time. Not sure how worth it really is to try and force the critical agility meme but it's also basically the only route you have if you're using charging strike. Prot strike as a pseudo IAS is a good recommendation though. How does the bonus damage from charging apply on aoe skills like cyclone? The wiki states scythe attacks only get one bonus, so i'm not hopeful. I really would lean towards cyclone, power+prot. OR hear me out, symbolic strike
>>
>>2347053
well if you use a skill it cancels charging strike
so you basically use charging strike the same way you would power attack, except it's also a speed boost to gap close easier
really it does work it's just tight timing and energy, I couldn't call it meta, but I had more fun with it than most axe builds.
>>
>>2346816
How is it pseudo IAS?
>>
>>2347097
https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Activation_time
>Attack skills follow two different timing rules, depending on whether or not the skill explicitly states an activation time. For skills with unstated amounts, the skill will use the first half of the character's next attack interval (the remaining half will be the time it takes the character to return to the neutral state). For example, an axe-wielding character will take half of 1.33 seconds to activate Body Blow; it will take them half of 1.75 seconds to activate the same skill while swinging a hammer.

>Skills with an explicit activation time work similarly: half-way through the interval, a melee attack will connect with its target and a ranged attack will launch its projectile; the remaining half will be used to return the character to a neutral state. For example, a Savage Shot is fired after ¼ seconds after it is initiated (half the stated ½ second Activation time) and Belly Smash will connect after ½ seconds, rather than the stated 1 second. These skills also bypass the return-to-neutral delay from the previous attack (assuming it did not have an aftercast delay).
Basically, if an attack skill has a listed activation time and is used immediately after a normal attack skill (or auto), it will cut the end lag of the normal attack, do its attack, and then has a faster end lag itself. Assuming the activation time is shorter than the normal attack speed of the weapon. They stack with real IAS too.
>>
>>2347097
because it has an activation time, so you use it after a normal attack/normal skill that doesn't have an activation (meaning it goes off during your next basic autoattack), and it goes off almost instantly, cancelling waiting on your next autoattack like cancelling in a fighting game.
It's why the assassin dagger chain is using those specific lead and off hand attacks, part is just the low cooldowns, but the other part is those skills have activation times
so what you do is let a normal autoattack go off and then hit jagged strike, your character cancels the end of their autoattack animation and instantly jumps in with jagged strike, then instantly go into fox fangs, then there's a pause before death blossom executes as it waits for your next autoattack (death blossom doesn't have an activation time)
it's also why penetrating attack and sundering attack are always used on bow rangers, cause they can follow up their slow bow autoattacks with instant secondary shots for high sudden spike damage, then if the target is low enough health, needling shot spam (which also has activation time)
>>
>>2347120
yeah daggers getting effectively 5 hits per 3 seconds is a huge part of why they're meta. SoH is such huge value on it
>>
>>2347126
honestly I didn't pick up on this nuance for several years after I initially played, it was playing ESO and doing the animation canceling there that made me realize how good activation time martial skills were. When I was a noob I avoided those skills because I thought that the other skills were "instant" and the activation time skills were "slow" I was totally off.

So yeah I was a moron who didn't use martial skills with animations on them except interrupts for almost 10 years.

>>
>>2347134
there's even more secret nuance to them

the full animation of an "attack" includes a windup, the swing/shot, and a return to neutral, which means the actual hit happens halfway through the attack cycle.
this includes attack skills with an activation time, where the actual attack happens halfway through the listed activation time, so the arrow from Distracting shot is fired at 1/4s and Savage Slash connects at 1/4s. this means those skills could technically be successfully interrupted even after they've already successfully hit

So what are the odds of us getting a new campaign? Would be nice to get some new classes like the Chronomancer they have been blue balling us with for years.
>>
>>2348619
Very low. Re-using existing assets is one thing, but creating all new stuff is a larger undertaking.
>>
>>2348619
Basically nil. I'm not even convinced were going to get more balance changes, or content besides a post searing version of the dungeon
>>
>>2348619
All you're getting are small additions scattered throughout Prophecies and maybe one more Izzy balance update. GW1 doesn't bring in enough money to justify a new campaign.
>>
>First day of VQ week aligns with Augury Rock ZM
so many coins..
>>
>>2348619
Probably not a full campaign, but I do think they're going to, at some point (probably after a significant revamp of Prophecies and maybe the beginning of Factions) try to make someone on the scale of a paid mission pack. Then any future stuff will depend on how that does; if it flops then that's the end of it, if it does okay then they'll probably do another; if it somehow does gangbusters then maybe they get a small team together to make another expansion.
>>
>>2348619
basically 0 as others have said.

However I actually think a NF beyond "campaign" is not outside the realm of possibility. If you look at stuff like WiK and WoC, neither of those campaigns added new dungeons or areas to the game instead just re-used pre-existing assets and giving enemies a much stronger set of skills along with adding a few new items/rewards into the game.

A campaign focused around joko and the events after nightfall would likely be extremely popular and generate a massive amount of interest from GW2 players for more Joko content, as he is still considered one of the best written villains in that game to this day (lmao).

Depends how bold 2weeks is feeling with new content.
>>
What I really wonder is if they'll eventually start training and adding more ANet regular staff to work on GW1 instead of just SCW and the 2weeks contractors, once they've got the full production pipeline figured out.
>>
I echo chain EVAS against the doppleganger and I don't care what you think about that
>>
I actually think the best chance for getting actual new stuff is probably cross-promotional things for GW2 (and eventually GW3). If they'd had their tools up and running a couple years ago, they could have done a little mini-campaign up in Janthir that showed the White Mantle village that was part of the background for that expansion, or they could have done one before the most recent one about the founding of the castaway town.

Making assets for a 2005 game is so cheap even in comparison to GW2's 2012 stuff that it really wouldn't be tough if they had a few people on it, and they could probably make like one or two explorable zones, a handful of dungeons or missions, and an outpost and sell it as a mission pack.

if you go daggers you can use sneak attack as your lead attack, the doppleganger won't have a lead attack to use (so their attempting to use the rest of the chain will fail), and they'll be blinded
>>
>>2349882
Prophecies in particular has tons of our of the way outposts like Ice Tooth Cave. They're not mandatory, however. You can get through the Northern Shiverpeaks over the course of the Borlis Pass and Frost Gate missions.
>>
>>2349882
did you walk all the way from yaks bend?
until the very end of the shiverpeaks you should never be more than like 1 zone away from an outpost, there are 2 missions in there if you follow the primary quest from yaks bend

I did some sidequests along the way for some dwarf but yeah I walked, and I kept going back and forth through the areas to turn them in. I should go back to do the rest of the sidequests I picked up at Yaks Bend and the main mission too.
>>
Yup, what a difference.
same zone (norrhart domains), but this time with my assassin that actually has IAU and scan (my derv hasn't actually done EOTN yet), and all my mesmers use hex eater vortex (I still get stuck with blurred vision a lot so that's where scan comes in) rather than esurge. if enemies aren't using hexes sure it is slower killing I guess, but the most annoying groups all use hexes so they melt.
>>
>>2348619
a whole new campaign. literally 0. maybe some new quests or new dailies to shake up the zaishen quests a little bit.
>>
>>2349971
>Also any idea of what weapon I should use if I'm relying mostly on my pet?
It's amusing you should ask, because ranger beastmaster with a hammer is a vintage playstyle called "bunny thumper".
You can pick anything you like, really, as Expertise will make your energy-cost damage attacks cheap.
Swords are good for single target "control" attacks as the leader of the party. By that I mean you can cripple targets, pressure them with bleed, and still do decent damage.
Axes have more AoE options, often additional armor penetration, and often apply Deep Wound condition, making them good for spiking damage.
Hammers are pressure masters, slow, but higher damage so satisfying to knockdown smack a monk down on his ass.
>>
>>2350023
>>2349971
shortly we'll have anniversary and you'll be able to get a sword with an expertise requirement. So I'd maybe consider getting some of the swordsmanship skills but it's not super important if you're mostly going beast master.
>>
>>2348619
Anon 2weeks has like three employees, most likely one artist, enough to assemble a new dungeon using existing legos in the bin
>>
>>2349971
yeah there are little outposts and interesting zones tucked out of the way, but they'll never require that you go gallivanting about to stay on the main story. it's pretty linear if you stay on the thread of primary quests and missions

Ah cool. Yeah I was trying out bows and then staff for more energy, but idk the hammer just feels kinda easier for me to go in with my pet and hit stuff, and then bash for knockdown.
>>2350055
I'll keep all of this in mind too, thx.

The exact language used by anet in other job positions has always been "an established IP" and "MMO", so unless the claim is they are producing WoW2.0 I really don't see how anyone comes to any other conclusion.

Coincidentally the board room meeting confirmed they sought permission to create a GW3 if they wanted, to which the board approved. Totally unrelated I'm sure.

But regardless of if it's GW3 or not, what does it even matter? The end result is still, resources taken away from GW2 to work on new MMO, which will likely be influenced by GW2's design. Just because it might not have a "3" at end does not mean it won't be a spiritual successor to 2, nor does it mean it won't draw players away either.

Cope harder.

Unwaking Waters and Ruins of Morah are both "kill the boss" missions. If you are good, this takes like two minute and you can skip the rest of the BS in the mission.

>>2361990
The wikis suggested missions are good just follow those for as many proofs you need. Generally you don't need more than one weapon per character other than a few cases
>Mesmer shields are always good
>Ranger uses two sword sets for a speedclear idr which tho
>Elementalist can benefit from a second axe but it's not that big. One axe is caster weapon one is damage.
>Warrior uses spear in pvp and having a second one for different mods can be good
If you want to skip any, dervish is the least impactful, ritualist is so so.

>>2362510
Fuck MOX, and you won't get any primary prof skills for him anyway since he's a Dervish (Nightfall profession).
>>
>>2362510
>>2362533
MOX tends to be popular with new players because you acquire him at a point in the game where your hench are level 10~ but he's level 20. His baseline skills are better than a warrior hench imo and overall I actually think he's a solid option for where you are in the game. But he'll outlive his usefulness once you get to when henchmen have elite skills on their bars (level 20) because he won't have one.
>>
>>2362556
>>2362533
yeah i'm new, figured he was either added in a more recent update to help noobs and/or something like a fire emblem jagen where he's quite powerful early on but later you ideally swap him out for more customizable units, similarly to how you described him i suppose
>>
>>2362490
For sure. Just saying from experience the one axe is enough. You can use any weapon for the casting set if you're on top of swapping. I'd generally say get one weapon for each profession, and those i listed might want more than one.

>>
>>2362678
I still need to do those quests on several characters, just I don't bother sometimes cause the falls is quite a fucking hike
>>
I guess I need to do the pvp daily for proofs of steel during the anniversary, what's the annoying warrior anniversary spear build?
>>
>>2362643
>>2362650
he has nothing to do with EotN, actually
he was added as a hero available to anyone who owned all three campaigns, even without owning EotN
as of Reforged, everyone owns all three campaigns by default, so these days he is technically a "core" hero, the only one in the game
>>
>>2362728
OK, sure, mechanically.
But he's an Asuran G.O.L.E.M. as introduced in Eye of the North and was created soon after the release of Eye of the North.
>>
>>2362713
We'll be doing HA PvP daily see this post >>2339988

Warrior spear tends to work better when fighting actual players, if you're planning to do 7 henchmen warrior spear it doesn't perform well vs bot teams. Though for the second week of the festival we might run a spiritway set up with 4 warriors.

There's a few standouts, but generally yeah it's the weaker of the two. Thrill of victory, balanced stance, "to the limit", soldier's strike, and auspicious parry are all solid if you choose to build into it. Healing signet is good enough. R/W gets some good value out of the line especially with the expertise sword. Not sure how much I'd put into tactics on most warrior builds, just because strength has great elites, power+prot, and a few other nice things.

Not a spoiler but later missions may require you to defend multiple spots so you'll want to flag heroes individually and flag henchmen elsewhere. If it's just you and henchmen then you guys can basically only cover two spots. So having heroes will open up some tactical flexibility, but I don't think it will necessarily ruin your game because your account is new and won't be able to deck out heroes in perfect bars, not to mention you haven't geared them out with max weapons and upgrades and runes.

People occasionally decide to create ZB/ZM groups but it depends on what the daily mission is. Overall I'd say we're fairly active for a guild that only recruits through 4chan.

What are you running? What's your secondary?
>>
are there any worthwhile duo/trio multiboxing farms?
>>
>>2366371
Not really, the difficulty in controlling 2 accounts at once is tricky and easy to fuck up, and it makes looting more annoying.

The best way to leverage multi accounts for farming purposes is to pick farms which have guaranteed drops, or to have your alts run bond skills.

Cathedral of Flames is the best example, with 2-3 accounts you can have a designated bonder while you just vibe playing wind prayers derv. It's a pretty comfy farm and lots of decent drops from the dungeon.

I personally do Kathandrax solo's, with multiple accounts you can get multiple hammers per run which makes it quite profitable. But you might want to set up your alt to run shadow form, otherwise you have to clear entire 3rd floor for them to reach chest which is annoying. This run requires a bit more technical skill but it's very managable.

Full DoA solo clear would be next best, you keep your alts basically AFK entire run, solo speedrun WR is under an hour, it takes me between 2-3 on average when I don't fuck up. After you clear you just have alts open chest and collect gems, I run 5 accounts and a full run will net me 10 stygian, 20 titan, 30 marg, 40 stygian gemstones, along with an inventory worth of gold drops and various other valuables. But this run is very technically challenging and mentally draining, not to mention expensive, a full run usually costs me about 20-30e worth of cons.

Beyond this I would look into dungeon soloing, having multiple chances to loot end chest is main benefit to alt farming. If you're wanting to farm with 2 accounts at once, maybe consider setting up an SoS rit and a SogM rit to spirit spam harder? I guess you could also set up a farm abusing Spellbreaker, monk with Blessed Aura + Of Enchanting = 30 seconds of spellbreaker so you could run a different elite on your main farmer instead of SF/Vow of Silence. Not sure I recommend it though.

40/40s from leviathan pits/armory is good for most spellcaster attributes and until last year's necromancer mod, were best in slot for them.
Seitung harbor staves have the full 10 energy, global 20% HSR and the 20% attribute linked HCT like a q9 but are q7 and only have weaker auto attacks which you don't care about on spellcasters.
If you need inscribable weapons, I use the asuran crafter, but most NF and EOTN ones will have them.
If you need mods, ask in kama ae1 if you're not melandru.

if you want to be a dweeb about technicalities. gw probably made 1000x as much selling one-off boxed copies and campaigns as all the cash shop costumes and storage and mercenary sales combined, and the game was dormant for like 15 years
also it works on linux

>>
>>2368563

>>
>>2368622
well, this is not that, nor any MMO
those are all games as a service since they rely on dedicated servers.
but there are 2 things keeping me from using Linux:
1. Not all online games are supported by it, nor all games in general, and I don't want to deal with finding lists of what is supported and what is not. I just want to play the games I have.
2. From previous experience, you almost need to know how to code personally if you're running Linux. If something breaks you might need the source code, configure it manually yourself, and recompile it. I swear I spent more time configuring and recompiling than actually using Linux. Tinkering with your OS and computer itself basically had to be your hobby to be a Linux enthusiast.
I don't know how true that second one remains.

sometime arouind 2000 or 2001, I remember giving up on it because Windows 2000 actually got uptimes of weeks rather than having to reboot every 2 days or windows 98 shit itself (the reason I'd tried Linux in the first place)
but it left a bad taste for me cause I had new hardware that there was no Linux driver for and had to wait for someone to write one for me to get the source code on, configure, and compile myself, and I had to compile the kernel like 4 times in less than a year or something like that.

Based off the lettucemeet we'll be doing HA at 2 PM EST for Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th. I MIGHT need to push it back an hour or 2 on Monday the 27th I'll try to let people know once I know my hours.

I'll try to keep the guild MOTD up to date, we might do HA games later in the night as well if there's a large interest (I have a feeling not nearly as many people responded as are actually interested), but they might just be quick games where we dunk on the bots for prizes and leave. Please try to show up on time/early for Wednesday so I can make sure everyone is all set up.

Point 1 is kinda valid: if you want to play games that run anticheat, you might have issues.

"I HATE KRYTANS" he thought. Gwen's Theme reverberated his entire Fiery Dragon Sword, making it flicker even as the 5 gold Hunter's Ale circulated through his powerful thick veins and washed away his (merited) fear of minorities after the last Guild War. Fill out the lettucemeet next time or you are stuck suffering the consquences of europeans. 8 people filled it out, and of those 8 people almost all of them were free at 2 PM EST. That said I will probably end up doing a second HA run at like 7-8 PM EST just because I know looking at the lettucemeet that there's a solid 4-6+ more people who are interested and free, but didn't bother to fill out the lettucemeet. 2 PM EST on weekdays is honestly so ungodly early that we might end up dodging the euro teams because many of them are busy with dinner or still coming home from work. Anytime after like 10PM EST is also an ideal time to dodge the euros.

Monk is quite good if you're playing solo, fast casting works on res skills so with a high fast cast you can have res skills that only take 2-3 seconds instead of 5. Ritualist for the same reason.

Paragon has some decent group utility you can toss on easily.
>>
>>2374501
Ele has Glyph of Lesser Energy for energy management until you get the gear and heroes needed to mitigate that. Some spells are slow enough to benefit from Fast Casting reducing cast time, but the majority of these are for specialized builds.
Necro is an additional source of hexes, debuffs, and buff removal. Like Ele, a number of its spells are slow enough to see faster casting speed if used by a Mesmer.
Monk and Rit have resurrection skills.
>>
>>2374501
Elementalist is my usual. Glyph of lesser energy is okay. Deep freeze with auspicious incantation is a neat option though I like ausp+arcane echo more.
Fast casting any res is very good, so Monk or Ritualist are good too.

You have to be careful that you're not spreading your stats too much, so stick with Death Magic, Water Magic, and Energy Storage.
You're probably going to end up with a very tactical battlefield management type of build playing that way -- slow the enemies, throw minions in front so they cant get to your henchmen, and hit then with Well of Suffering when applicable. This'll be fine for much of Prophecies, even if it's unconventional.
Keep in mind, though, that enemies have different armor ratings. You're going to do shit damage against rangers because rangers have high elemental armor. Your ice skills are going to suck against a lot of Shiverpeaks enemies, but be really good against the end game enemies.

Offering/Water Trident won't be possible without a real party, too many level 20 mobs to walk through and your hench will eat dirt. Only the Monk and Warrior elite can be gotten directly outside the outpost, but even that still requires you to defeat like 3 packs of level 20s.

curses could be buffed by 100% across the board and still probably not move the needle on the meta (other than chilblains)

the corpse detonation is pretty fun but is pretty random sometimes you gotta hit the skill multiple times to blow up the one you think is gonna go off. I use it in combination with icy veins, intensity (cast just before the enemy with icy veins dies), putrid bile, necrosis, shit like that just death magic and soul reaping. I don't use any other ele skills though cept maybe a glyph.
Pretty fun or vanquishing or questing but kind of ass at dungeon bosses.
>>
>>2376706
What are you talking about? Spiteful Spirit is a pretty top tier meta pick for a lot of areas, especially end game. Enfeebling Blood, Weaken Armor are both part of the mesmerway meta. Barbs and MoP are meta in any team that uses minions or at least 2 melee. And rip enchantment, reckless haste, shadow of fear and PoD are constantly listed as alternative options in almost any meta build that can use necro curses. This isn't even all the good skills this is just the ones that the community considers "meta relevant"

Curses is VERY close to being meta viable, the reason it's not used more is because it's best used with melee minions or when using 1+ melee which is uncommon in hero and player parties. And because it's expensive skills make it difficult for anyone other than necromancer to use.

The HA festival has started! This week is double LUCK, making it the single most economic and efficient week to max your lucky/unlucky titles. If you have ANY interest in maxing these titles I HIGHLY recommend you go sit on the boardwalk, the last time both lucky week and a boardwalk aligned was 3 years ago. It's also double HA week be sure to join us for HA, we'll be doing 2 PM EST and 7 PM EST

On Sunday at 3:30 or 4PM EST (depending when we get out of HA) we will be doing our annual Urgoz run! I will be giving out store codes, additionally I will be dropping valuable items on the ground throughout the run.

There will be 3 different categories you can try for to win a store code:

1) Top DPS
2) Most creative build (voted by officers)
3) Most effective build (voted by players in attendance)

Winners will be allowed to pick any item on the store (within reason, I am not buying you an alt account or the 3-8 merc pack)

Finally as a reminder NEXT thread I will begin giving away free codes, more details will follow in the next thread.

Take this to Palora on the boat in Embark Beach to get a free bank tab.
Talk to Ceira to get a free Hound of Balthazar animal companion.
Get four more Proof (one from each region of the world per character) and pick up a Proof of Triumph. You can use this to capture the anniversary elite skills at your leisure without asking someone to come with you.
Look at all the weapons the anniversary weaponsith has. They cost 5 Proofs of Legend each.

The green weapons with the profession mods are just sorta okay. It's mostly for the 20% inscription during festivals, but if they're kinda bad profession mods then I'd skip.
>>
>>2379069
the scythe with SR is kinda ideal for a warrior (at least during festivals), it's vamp, +20% during festivals, and SR so energy management, I think the daggers seem like a good buy too for a warrior, since dagger chains are energy you'd run a WE dagger build and your dagger chains would literally cost 1 energy each + the effect of zealous.
Then Arbalest since it's a ranged weapon that can run on strength if you're not using 7WS
That's my initial plans anyway. The Roaring Earth Hammer doesn't seem BAD just kinda generic and would probably only be used during festivals. The leadership handle hammer is I dunno, I just don't use shouts much when using a hammer and the energy gain from 5 leadership gets mogged by SR anyway.
Bow would be pointless, spear, eh.. Arbalest will probably work better and I can't really see using an actual spear focused build on warrior, just pulling it out for those times when you can't reach an enemy, and pulling.
Last year I got a lot of weapons already on the primary professions I just didn't think ahead at the secondary weapon options with 7WS or WE builds being good enough to use.
Caster weapons most of them were pretty shit. Why would I use Divine Favor on a Rit who will get way more out of using restoration magic spells? What mysticism spells would I use on an Ele? What energy storage spells would I use on a Mesmer? The +5 SR Spawning Power staff has some niche use for a minion master Necro
the 5 fast casting rod is alright. But I got those.

It's nice here. Bear likes it, too. Thanks for the anniversary info above.

Daggers and scythe are the only two twentieth weapons I'd buy. The alternate attribute ones I'd buy one of on every profession. More for mesmer and ele
>>
>>2379201
Yeah I've had the Ele axe for years, I use it for Earth tanking builds but I've been itching to do something with conjure water with it for some time I just worry about the squish factor.
have also had the Mesmer shield since it came out just I don't know what to actually do with it.

What I'm missing from the gold weapons set:
Warrior Spear
Assassin Bow
Rit Bow (some spirit's strength build?)
Derv Staff, and I'm actually going to get that one just for the memories of the spergfest over it.
and Para Daggers, I mean, now with the possibility of slotting a hilt of 5 critical strikes I might actually have a point with the Para daggers that I didn't before, but at the same time.... whenever I play Para it's HR, and need /W for Save Yourselves.
Would it really be worth running Para Daggers just for autoattacking and being in melee? would my heroes stay in earshot to get the shout spam?
>>
>>2379238
Mesmer shields are literally just the same as any shield set. HP mod and different elemental armor insc, usually fire and lightning for general use. You'd want an earth one for vaettir farming event drops.

a vampiric scythe of the necromancer seems pretty viable, though it's meh that it really only will shine during festivals.
but we have several of those a year, and it'd be kinda cool to that'd be the one time I really do something like Scythe TAO ranger, keeping a build somewhat fresh by only using it during festivals.
the gold anni weapons... that's more year round and if I'm honest, there's only a few I really find myself using and finding fun often, namely Hammer Monk is pretty fun and Axe Ele using Earth tank or Water PBAOE with conjure water.
My use of Ranger Sword is kinda mixed. I do it with a kinda beastmaster build for farming sometimes but I don't truly see myself using sword mastery skills aside from sun and moon slash and whirlwind attack (since I don't need to put any points in swordsmanship for those), I could maybe see going into tactics for some skills there maybe but they're not that great.
Necro scythe might be fun

But like Para daggers, all I can really see doing with those is autoattacking cause if I'm on Para I'm kinda expected to support.

Seven Weapon Stance, Heroic Refrain and Shadow Theft are excellent elites that enable using a variety of weapons and skills you normally wouldn't. You can also simply place them in the standard build and do well.
Together as One is one of Ranger's best elites, particularly if you like to run parties full of physical damage.
Soul Taker is a massive buff to the power of melee Necro but it's not always the most fun option due to certain downsides.
Judgment Strike's another option for smiting monks and any bored melee that goes /Mo.
Vow of Revolution opens up some serviceable healer and caster builds for Derv if you're bored of swinging a scythe. Nothing powerful but it's something.
Weapon of Three Forges is fun.
Time Ward is a sidegrade to one of the existing PvE skills.
Over the Limit is worse than not using elite skills.

some of the more gimmicky builds are ass on heroes because the builds are too tricky for them

>>2380929
I classified it fun/gimmicky. It's fun to use for the heck of it, but how much are you actually relying on your axe auto attacks while you're earth tanking? Also, nothing stopping you from running wand/shield so that point is moot.
>>
File: stream.png (749 KB, 751x545)

>>
>>2380985
wrong.
Axe can have "of enchanting", Wand cannot, and some of the enchants do benefit from the longer uptime like stoneflesh aura and especially obsidian flesh if you use it.
as for using the axe over a spear, the axe will let you stay in melee range, which helps keep enemies near you and makes you a focal point for things like hex eater vortex/shatter hex/smite hex/smite condition/ancestor's wrath.
>>
>>2381007
ok? you can still use an axe with an enchanting mod
the only thing the anniv axe gets you is more auto attack damage without investing in axe mastery
fun, but not important

I wasted a bunch of salvage kit charges cause I didn't know this so I'll share this so others don't make the same mistake

if you change a character's name its merc hero does not change name with it, you have to delete and re-register it. So I thought when you deleted a merc hero it lost everything on it, so I was sure to remove my weapons and insignias/runes that cost more than 100g.
But it turns out if you delete a merc hero and reregister it with the new name in the same slot, it keeps its insignias and runes, so I didn't need to remove them first. I'm sure it has to be in the same merc hero slot for that to work though. Cause I've rearranged hero slots and did lose the cheap insignias I had on them before and their build.
but if it's just reregistering for a name change you don't have to completely strip a merc hero.
>>
>>2381193
probably has to do with the fact you're registering the exact same character again (even if the name is changed)
most likely wouldn't work if you did some other new merc in that slot
>>
>>2381217
yeah, but I've registered the same character with a new name in a different slot and they lost all their stuff. But if all you're doing is reregistering the same merc hero in the same slot with a new name (or new dye scheme, I did also change a dyed piece of gear) maybe even new armor looks entirely but the same character, it should transfer over what they have, you might try it (different armor) with just cheap insignias just to make sure on one, as I left cheap blessed insignias on my ele that I changed the name on.
But if the only things changing are the name and dyes it should work, and can save you salvaging.
>>
>>2381171
anyone familiar with modern anet should have expected that
>>
I'm thinking it has to do with how Guild Wars internally does Merc Heroes. You sometimes see the name not work and it just says "Mercenary Hero 2" drops ashes of PWK or something like that.

So what matters is which Merc Hero it is, and their prof/build, and their equipped insignias/runes. The name, armor looks, dyes, and personality are all kinda interchangeable, but if "Mercenary Hero 2" changes professions cause you register another character as Merc Hero 2, well then the runes/insignias and build are incompatible so it wipes them.
But if the new hero registered is the same prof, so the build/runes are compatible, it keeps them.

I think Elona reach was the most convenient out of those missions.Dunes of Despair just takes a long time because you have to actually wait out the timer and getting the bonus done can be an undertaking because you don't want to leave the ghostly hero alone so you have to downsize your team to go kill the bosses.
and I found Thirsty River more annoying dealing with the res timer for the enemy teams if you didn't kill the priests fast enough, and the Ghostly Hero can get stuck on treasure chests and make you restart.

but that's the minority of that mission, most of it is destroyer of flesh/bones warriors, and destroyer of deeds/hordes rangers that take like 60% of your normal damage.... after cracked armor, after lightning penetration, and after winter's making it cold damage.

if your counterplay is "play a different character" then you've failed as a designer.
>>
>>2386014
Should have picked better at the start.
>>
>>2386018
there's 10 professions, all of them will need options to be effective in all the PVE content. If you write off an entire profession making them have to be carried by others because they won't contribute fuck all to the team, or relegate them to playing a passive role like bonder, you've failed as a game designer.
Counterplay that basically writes off entire classes is something that should generally only exist in PVP, because then its your team comp that is hating on that one profession and that will bring with it it's own weaknesses that can be countered by the other team.
IN PVE though, ever profession is going to need to be able to get through all content, and it shouldn't be "well they can get through it by being carried by heroes/other players"
It's simply not fun game design.
In destroyer's case, the "weakness" to water could be a deeper cut. When cracked armor and armor pen still result in you dealing with 100AL and you don't have damage that ignores armor, (2 skills is not enough to base a build on), you're basically left with 3 options:

1. just be useless and get carried (what most will opt to do even though it's not fun)
2. change to a passive and boring support build like bonding, also not fun
3. try to play mostly secondary class skills, basically being a "mesmer" without fast casting so your casts don't even go off before other players or heroes kill your target.... also not fun.

Your primary is ele? Have you considered an ele team? This is an unfinished team I was testing on my mesmer, I still need to tweak it more but you can see the general idea of it.

Basically you abuse how hero's use Arcane Mimic, hero's will only use it to steal an elite they have attrib points in, which means they all steal Ele attunement. This makes your spells almost free not needing a BiP (I would still consider taking one for safety though). You can fill whatever role you like in the team, since you are playing ele I would replace the PI mesmer with BiP necro for more stability. Additionally if you're still struggling it might be worth considering replacing the water ele with a Me/P illusion mesmer and abuse the recently buffed Shared Burden.

I personally like stolen speed, it makes ele feel fun to play.

it's more the thing that nothing in Ele's arsenal is good against destroyers, so they're stuck relying on PVE skills or secondary class skills.
It's not a "struggle" it's just "I hit like a wet noodle, I might as well just flag my heroes to go attack the destroyer groups while I shitpost, it'll be just as effective"
Every time I do the destroyer heavy content on my Ele it comes down to the same dilemma: I can't actually play an Ele and do anything meaningful
It takes me back to 2009 when people would say "look at my Ele build for destroyer content" and it was either E/Mo bonder
or Discord caller
>>
>>2386296
Ele more than most classes relies heavily on using pre existing knowledge of an area to determine what build you'll play. Their value is also heavily dependent on how mob dense the area is. GOLEM isn't a very mob dense mission whereas something like Urgoz or Archani's you'll be competing for top DPS.

Personally for GOLEM I would have went for something like Water Trident or Shatterstone and ran a water support build. Water trident is a pretty vicious spammable attack and given how many melee destroyers there are, you would have gotten some great value out of it.

Failing that, if I'm sticking to air magic I would have ran either Mind Shock, or Lightning Surge, not invoke. It's better to go for single target pressure to secure kills in areas without good mob density as opposed to Invoke. Out of all the air elites you could pick, Invoke is probably the worst one for that mission imo despite it otherwise being a pretty solid A+ skill.
>>
>>2386355
He said he was using chain lightning. Likely not using invoke alongside it. Also imo it's more that ele specifically gets fucked by a lot of game design, elemental damage, long casts, enchant reliant, and low single target really isn't a robust kit.
>>
>>2386355
oh I normally run tclap, I switched to invoke on a second test just because I thought the anon was hinting that "what always works" is invoke when I mentioned chain lightning. Invoke is not that much better than chain lightning other than casting time, either one was hitting like wet noodle.
I was thinking winter would help by setting the lightning damage to cold while still giving the armor penetration (and using cracked armor from tclap or shell shock), but it still did piss poor damage, as did shatterstone when I tried that.
>>
hmmmmm arcane echo glimmering mark ebsoh
>>
>>2386381
Nah what always works is "anything but ele".
>>
>>2386373
I think the foundational issue is Anet's ideas on damage vulnerabilities.
Most times in an RPG if something is vulnerable to a specific damage type, that damage is given a 1.5x or 2x multiplier against that enemy.
Undead vs Holy works this way.
However all other damage resistance or vulnerability in guild wars is addressed by AL. If an enemy is strong against a damage type, their AL is +20 against it. If an enemy is weak against a damage type, their AL is -20 against it. This works fine most of the time, where enemies have a base AL of 60 for the squishy, and 100 for the tanky. The Tanky enemies take 50% of your tooltip damage normally (if it's armor respecting damage), with lightning skills having 25% armor penetration, it's like they have 80 armor vs you meaning you do 71% of your tooltip damage instead (and squishies take near 130% of your tooltip damage), then you apply cracked armor and now the tanky enemies take as much damage as squishy enemies in the group do and the squishy enemies are getting smoked (I don't know the exact amount but you do significantly more than tooltip damage with the combo of effects)
Against Titans for instance, the combo I was doing, winter + air magic and using cracked armor, they get rocked, because even the warrior titans have 80 AL to start, now you drop another 20 armor off that when using cold damage then factor in cracked armor and armor penetration and they are taking like 150% tooltip damage.
That works.
This system doesn't work as well against destroyers because they have a base AL of 140 (25% of tooltip damage), resist physical damage types and Fire for AL of 160 (18% tooltip damage) and 120 AL vs cold (35% of tooltip damage). Even after you crack their armor they're at 100 AL(50% tooltip damage) and armor penetration will only get you to 71% tooltip damage.
So they're "vulnerable" but still tanky as shit.
If Destroyers had -40 AL vs water, well then you could probably just play water

Been since before GW2 came out since I played this game. I did all campaigns and most content back in the day, don't think I ever did EotN tho. Barely remember anything, but what's new with reforged? Leveling any different? I wanna run through a character on my own with some heros and have fun minmaxing some dumb build. What campaign would you recommend I start. Factions was way faster to level in last I played
>>
>>2387792
pre searing is where to be since it had the most significant updates
>>
>>2387792
factions is still the fastest to level you and get you out of the tutorial asap. if you haven't been around since before eotn, they added new post-game minicampaigns to prophecies and factions too
when you make a character, you can pick different badges or modes now
>reforged mode
just makes the game easier. slightly boosts xp and gold, rewards from missions, increases henchman levels, and cuts the price of skills. there's also new stuff in presearing that's reforged only, a warrior hero and a brand new dungeon
>dhuum's covenant
hardcore mode, basically what the survivor title used to be. you just lose the badge when you die, not the character
>melandru's
ironman mode where trading, xunlai chests, mat traders, skill unlocks from other characters, etc. are all disabled
also you can make characters with one word names as of 2 days ago, might be able to snag something cool still

It's likely you never did any of the GW beyond content either these were mini challenge campaigns that anet released in the final years of GW1 development as a proto living world, there's War in Kryta and Winds of Change.

Also as always if you would like to join the guild post your IGN on thread.
>>
Came back only for the anniversary and didn't know Devona is now a hero. If they eventually make a full set of Heroes available in pre-searing, wouldn't that mean you can solo the campaigns in chronological order? Instead of hopping all over and backwards through the content
>>
>>2388537
you can do that now, people don't give henchmen enough credit their builds aren't that bad. Reforged mode has helped fix a lot of their builds too.

It looks like anet plans to add another Mes hero (possibly as a reward for the post-searing dungeon).
>>
>>2388572
hench are awful though. Yeah I get it heroes are worse with their default builds until you unlock some skills, so for a brand new player hench is better, but if it's an alt character people will go for heroes so at least they have better than Alesia running up to Stefan's corpse to res him with her touch range res skill and pulling shit
>>
>>2388805
Alesia is I think the worst. In general I don't like having the res on the healer, but she's extra bad about it
>>
>>2389071
same, if I do have a res on a healer I disable it and manually use it, outside of UA
UA is one of the skills you can tell the devs really made sure that heroes use properly. They don't maintain other enchants, but they'll maintain UA, and they will pop it the instant someone goes down and reapply the enchant to themselves, and if they have it up and you're running to where another party member dies they pop the enchant the instant they're in range.
They do everything right with that 1 skill.
>>
>>2389127
I think they maintain blessed aura

It depends if we're comparing monk hench in general, or just proph hench. I think overall for monk hench she's fine, but for proph hench the rangers and little thom are way worse.

>>2389199
this is why there's such a large debate around whether it's a meta pet or not. In NM where enemy run slower and aren't as quick to kite, it's probably best choice, but for HM the faster run speed of other pets make theme debatably better.

Necro has been fun in pre, I think I got to lvl 10 (or almost lvl 10) last night. I definitely fucked up picking N/W for pre since there are apparently so few W skills leading to no synergy. I ran around the map, got my collector armor, and unlocked what seems to be all the areas. Kinda lost on what to do now or how to unlock the new dungeon.

Also did they make pre bigger, or did I just always skip this shit before?

>>2389530
Proph isn't bad, it's just inconvenient for this kind of thing where you're doing these missions on multiple characters to get multiple weapons.
>>2389550
Northern wall isn't too bad yeah, but only my proph native characters can even do it, since on Baka Gaijins I generally have no desire to go backwards to 4 man content. Cast minions, have your necromancers kill themselves so minions go masterless (this gives them a hitbox you can't walk through).

Try to align the minions so they are as close to the gate as possible, then attempt to walk through them, and to the right/left so you are moving toward the gate. If you are lucky your hitbox will briefly glitch a few pixels past the gate and let you through.

>>2389574
When you're repeating the same missions over and over to get proofs for weapons across 5+ characters you start looking for what are the shortest, simplest missions.

I wasn't saying Proph missions are bad, just that they're irritating for doing repeated runs through in a short period of time.
I don't want to sit and babysit some nigga for 10 minutes of actual time vs killing the doppleganger in 10s when I gotta do it 5+ times. I'm gonna pick the fast mission.

while it's true I don't see myself going dagger spammer warrior very often, it IS the same chain over and over again without much in the way of variations and I already do that on my assassin.
I just figured these particular daggers would probably be most ideal for a warrior running a W/E build dagger spamming so I'd try it out.
But yeah, zealous on a warrior is kind of detrimental if you even miss 1 attack because of blind or blurred vision or they activate block and you didn't precast scan. Just 1-2 whiffs and you're hurting, cause the idea is it makes 5 energy attack skills be totally restored if you hit but missing and its still bleeding you 4 energy each whiff and being that you execute dagger chains like just all in a row because of fox fangs having an activation so you cancel the reset from jagged strike with it, you often miss 2 shots before you can cancel death blossom to hopefully not flatline energy.

>>
>>2392167
a lot of support heroes go /P for Fall Back and Stand Your Ground.

I think /D might be viable for this "tag" as there's really no hero builds using secondary Dervish, /A might be on melees to give them daggers or death's charge, /E for Glyph of Lesser Energy sometimes gets used though it's less frequent than /Me for energy management from inspiration. /N for certain condition skills like weaken armor or enfeebling blood, blood bond, mark of fury, mark of pain, withering aura, etc. /Mo for access to resses, hex removal, and smiting prayers buffs for melee, /Rt for an easy reusable res in FomF, /P we've been over for IMS and armor shout /W for another armor shout, wild blow for stance removal
but I suppose /W will be less common on heroes.

>>2392277
so probably /D or /W, more leaning towards /D, the only time I could ever theoretically see someone using /D is against undead on a martial hero which.. martial heroes only tend to get used when absolutely required by nightfall missions. so that 1 niche use isn't in any Koss or Melonni requiring missions so you're probably free to use /D to flag for "don't use this hero"
>>
well shit I forgot Shadow Theft is a PVE skill, that means either scan, IAU, or Critical Agility have to go.
Unfortunately the majority of IAS skills are primary attribute linked to Strength, Expertise, Leadership and Mysticism
Flurry sucks
Frenzy seems like a suicide pact unless you use another slot on your bar for dash to cancel stance (and maybe run away)
But I'd prefer to keep using Critical Agility.
So I either eat knockdowns, or I'll need to know before going into any mission whether they're using stances, enchants, blindness, or miss chance hexes.
and if there's both stances AND enchants, or stances AND blindness.. Well that's gonna suck.

Run the first bar if there's enchant removal and only stance based block
Run the second if there's no cripple and no enchant removal
Run the third only if you have cons, or have both frenzy and a dream
It does generally require you know the area threats. The standard way of the assassin build is better for when you have no clue.

kamadan

>>2392965
Buy them in kamadan for 4-500g, unless they're ele, rit, mes, or sin. Rit is more like 1k, the other three are extremely cheap. Some guy was selling a stack of mesmer ones for 4k just recently

I think the first bar you can just use critical agility rather than drunken master, it's essentially what I'm doing when I anticipate mostly just blocking stances, as wild blow has the extra benefit of a guaranteed crit to reset critical agility anyway.
It's when there are blocking enchants that that'd be insufficient and I'd need to use expunge enchantments, or signet of twilight if it's not using enchantments that prevent spell targeting.
For blindness I'd need to carry signet of malice or assassin's remedy or go /R and use Antidote Signet, and for blurred vision or other miss chance hexes I'm basically at the whim of my heroes removing it from me.. but I note that they will often let blurred vision and blindness stick to me, they don't consider it worth the cooldown for that alone.
Balanced Stance... well you'd probably expect (with shadow theft) getting about 14s uptime out of a 30s cooldown
It's viable but less reliable than IAU for sure.
I think Scan is going to be the thing that "goes" because there are options as long as you're only dealing with 1, or at most 2, sources of missing (if you drop critical eye)
If you're in content that blindness, and blocking stances and blocking enchants, well something's going to make you miserable, you won't be able to cover everything, you're going to whiff. Unless you're certain there's no knockdowns so you can bring scan instead.

sin makes sense because of raptor farming what's driving the cost of mes and ele tomes down?
>>
>>2393400
mes - vaettir

I think the factions plant fiber farm drops ele tomes but I forget.

Necro can sometimes also be cheaper than average tome value.

Drunken master is better than critical agility due to the IMS. The armor of CA doesn't matter that much in my experience, and IAS on dagger spammer doesn't matter as long as it's above 15% so you get the one auto before starting the combo again. You're ultimately gated by fox fangs recharge and going faster doesn't translate to more damage outside of that one hit after DB, before you jagged. Enchant removal is also far more prevalent than stance removal, so generally the top bar is more robust.
