Controls are mostly straightforward and intuitive, but there's always little tips and tricks to learn, more info can be found at https://kb.tabletopsimulator.com/

>How do I join?
That's easy, you click on "Join" in the main menu, search for the lobby name and password that's been posted, and done!

>How do I host?
Click on "Create", and that's basically it. You can find free games in the workshop here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/286160/workshop/

technically a deck of cards is no different to rolling a complicated set of dice, and in chinatown thats how you decide what lots each player gets
and moving is simple, you have business in hand, you have open lot, you move the business into the lot.

so chinatown is roll and move.

unironically it's a skill issue. and not even in a negative way to the players, just to the game. it takes knowing all the factions and all the common play patterns for the factions before you're able to have fun with the game, even though you can just do moves and most likely lose and feel powerless with no knowledge of what the other factions do. So the skill floor for having fun is way higher than the skill floor for playing, and while some are fine with that and even try extending a ladder down to help the ones on ground floor reach the fun floor, it can't help everyone, and more and more new players see Wehrle's other games where the two floors are closer to each other and play them instead, even if the entry floor is higher it's an easier step between entry and fun that matters..

>>
Can images be embedded in a notebook e.g. as context for rules?

>>
>>2353490
i got the controls down but the clank! tutorial made me dizzy...
>>
>>2353723
It's really much easier than it looks, it's helpful to know that the mod is almost fully scripted and will do most of the heavy lifting for you.
>>
>>2353590
you can use the build in .pdf file support for rulebooks, because the notecards as they are in base tabletop sim suck so much ass it's not even funny.
though some people did make a Better Notecard it still doesnt support image embeds. but they do funcion better than default notecards.
>>
>>2353723
The tutorial is way longer than it needs to be because it goes in depth, but the game is so simple it fits in a post
>objective is to get the most VP by stealing a hexagonal Loot piece from the dungeon (you can only carry one by default) along with whatever else is not nailed down, and getting out of the dungeon before the clanking of your armor annoys the Dragon enough for her to kill you
>play entire hand of cards every turn, though sometimes order might matter
>cards give the symbols they have on the left side (and sometimes in their text box) into a temporary symbol wallet, and activate their text box effects, when played
>boot symbols let you move your dude thru corridors, but some corridors are one way, some take more than one boot, and some have monsters that damage you if you go thruthem
>sword symbols let you kill monsters, either on paths (meaning you dont take the damage) or in the market rows (where they give rewards)
>blue number is Skill, used to buy any non-monster card from the market rows, either the random top row, or the always same bottom row.
>at the end of turn, lose your symbols, put all played cards into discard, and draw from deck to your hand size (usually 5)
>if you ever need to draw cards but the deck is empty, shuffle the discard into a new deck, then keep drawing cards
>some cards, and rooms in the dungeon, give Gold; Shop rooms let you spend gold for items like a backpack for an extra Loot piece slot, a Key for map shortcuts, or a Crown for bonus points
>last but not least, Clank is a "resource" tracked with cubes that you want to generate the least of, because whenever the Dragon attacks (and its often), all Clank is put into the Dragon's bag, and then some cubes are drawn and become Damage tracked on a health bar. Running out of health kills you, but if you got out of the deep part of the dungeon you still score your points. Getting oput of the dungeon gives a 20 point Mastery bonus.
and you're ready to play Clank!

pretty alright game, got my ass handed to me 88 to 121 vp, which is to be expected when one player finds a cool interaction and the other player is too busy setting up for the set up for the "big turn" to notice that he's too broke for that big turn.
>>
>>2362380
>>2362830
Thanks for playing Darwin's Journey. Thanks also to the guy who played clank with me.

We were playing slightly wrong; we were supposed to cover up the +2 gold for turn order with +3 gold. Maybe we would have scored a lot more points playing correctly.

I've scored >200 before. Some strategy I learned:
-Central dogma: Multiple small actions are superior to single large actions. For example walking 2 and walking 2 is way better than walking 4 because you can land on two spots. 2 stamps on one envelope and 2 stamps on another gets you (4) rewards in two turns whereas 4 stamps on one envelope gets you (3) rewards in three turns.
-Stamps are very strong because they automatically get you multiple small rewards and they are very flexible. Can farm a lot of money, get you seals, or get you a lot of walking and sailing if you're good on money and seals. There is one that gets you 1 walk + 1 sail for first place and 1 walk OR 1 sail for second place which seems super broken. Emptying stamp stacks also gets you very good bonuses. I usually do sailing > walking > seals for the stamp stacks.
-1 action is worth about 1.5 seals. 1 action for 1 seal is TRASH but 1 action for 2 seals is BROKEN. I highly prioritize getting two seals and try to do that about once every round. You can do that turn one by putting two stamps on an envelope that gives seals (will give 1 seal twice) or by unlocking a seal lens. I usually have 1-3 gold workers at the end of the game.
-Camps are broken like stamps because they give a ton of small bonuses that add up.
-Rushing the 5th worker is broken. He has no seals but at worst he can farm gold from the museum/turn order/objective free spots and unlock lens is broken and requires no seals.
-Anything that unlocks a lens/activates a locked lens is broken.
>>
>>2363324
Continued

-Theory of evolution is not that good. Sometimes it's a good move to get a lot of gold early game or get a small amount of VPs late game (when there's no better option), but it's a trap to think it's the main point of the game. Most of your VPs come from the other things in the game.

Once I figured that stuff I went from scoring 60-80 to 150-200 usually.

I enjoy the game a lot although my opponent didn't find it that great. I also like Barrage; also designed by Simone Luciani, but I am still pretty bad at Barrage.

You're just supposed to know that building can't go on crocodile spaces. Thematically, the crocodile spaces are swamps and removing the crocodile represents diking the land and draining the water out for land reclamation. See also https://i.4cdn.org/vm/1776740707067733.jpg

>>2381093
The crocodiles on the card frame indicate that the crocodiles give you money. It's notably absent from the Crocodile Sacrifice card.
Although Crocodile Sacrifice does not place the worker on the crocodile's space and is explicit about what to do with the crocodile, so I suppose the distinction is not important.

I looked into Nuns on the Run 2nd edition. It removes line of sight and guard facing. If a guard is in the same room as a novice the guard sees the novice. Alcoves and large rooms are chopped up to compensate for this. Also, if a novice runs they add +1 to their noise rolls.

Indeed. One of our guys is working on making that map a little higher quality so we can play it. I personally prefer line of sight and hiding behind walls, makes everything more tense. We do have implemented a 2e rule for the "Caught" State rules, since in the first edition it's not really an option to stay caught, which with some bad luck could make it so you get caught a couple times in a row, and aside from that, the 2e variant is a bit more tactical and gives players a choice for when to start disobeying again.

The LoS utility caught this too, so I think we should be good. The chart definitely has a mistake or two in it. Needs a quick shoop.

>>2445595
The LOS guide I use on the mod is one with corrections made by users on bgg.
Regarding the caught rules, it's an entire rabbit hole of threads talking about it. I prefer the variant but next time we can play with rules as written (become on the run as soon as a round ends with you out of sight of guards, otherwise walk towards your room) to see what the group in general prefers. It is more straightforward but I like having the option to be "safe" at the cost of a turn basically.

Since the sheet records endpoints only, and it goes straight from one to the next, the replay ends up looking a bit weird. It works at least. Maybe the players can just draw in the routes between each point themselves.

Yeah that's probably good enough. I guess it could be coded so the lines only follow paths but that's probably something more sophisticated that's not worth pursuing.

I wonder how many people play my Onitama mod... Maybe I should get around to adding scripting for the many cards it now has.

Since the rules say to start with a random novice, I added a shuffle button for starting positions. I'm making the nameplates now.
>>
>>2447896
That would probably be a bitch and prone to inaccuracy. For example, at 105, you 3 Walk to 114. Which path is the vector supposed to take? No one's gonna want to write down every single step they took.

Too much work for a niche little game!

Novice selection IS random, but their rooms are not. That's why I have a little baggie next to their rooms.

Anyone play villainous or red dragon inn?
>>
>>2455835
My friend loves Villainous so I have to play it at least once a week. I'm not too into it. Whole lotta custom characters on the workshop though.
>>
>>2455864
I like anime villainous more than the standard because Disney's version has you get blindsided by wins sometimes.

Anivill makes you clear the heroes after wincon.
>>
>>2455901
Is there a cohesive fan-curated anime set? I just see a billion random loose characters in the workshop.

>>2455912
Ani vill is its own different map(?).
Pic related is thumbnail on workshop.

Major differences-
Your mover can clash at end of turn, some decks are more based on this/mover. Think vanquish with your villain.

After you get goal, you enter showdown. Need to kill all heroes in spo. (Aizen of bleach makes like 5 heroes appear and he enters a gauntlet).

You may fate two people at once. You use 1 card each typically.

Gambling is bad, m'kay.
>>
>>2459040
18XX is not really gambling as the only stocks on the market are all player controlled, and them going up or down is also player controlled.
Cube Rails even more so, because stocks almost never go down, they just don't go up as much if the company is doing badly, though this depends on the game as the series has a lot of different system variants.
