What do you do after you have a base. Do you go out and explore the entire map and bring things back to the base or make more bases somewhere else? I can't figure out if its worth hauling things back and forth.
>>
>>2361029
Forward bases near any big looting opportunities, also a good way to have a safe place to clear from. Central base somewhere nice and optimally not infested.

VHS are still cucked and only give you up to level 3, right?

>The new chud in command literally just listens to feedback and implements it in the game as actually expected of a game studio
It's honestly shocking to see the difference between Lemmy and Chud.
Lemmy would actively ignore if not do the opposite of feedback, Chud just listens.

Getting boosted to level 2+ mechanics from just watching a single VHS helps a lot with keeping cars maintained, same goes for most skills.
It's always the first two levels that are the most mind numbingly hard to obtain.
They need to add a simple 'practice X skill' recipe that eats resources and outputs nothing.

It's just a house I was looting when it got dark. Don't have a base yet. Currently living in a house next to it nursing my wounds. No planks nearby and haven't found a hammer either

They definitely need to add occupation spawns to the new areas though.
>>
>>2361610
I never understood why occupation spawns even really matter. All the characters own homes so appearing in random houses makes perfect sense.

oic
still, i'd at least move something in front of any unfortunate entry points, or like, in a situation like that where the window is by the stairs, a tv/couch/whatever at the bottom and top of the stairs. I'd recommend breaking some of the stairs instead so they can't climb up to you, but you dont have a hammer so rip

>>
>>2361671
Also, the game doesn't give you any indication of it, so if you stomp many zeds, especially in early game since the weapon distribution is so garbage, you should regularly check the condition and swap them out for another pair or you're gonna get fucked walking on broken glass.
>>
>>2362091
I think there's a special "big rip" soundeffect if one of you clothes gets destroyed.
Last week I heard this unusually loud sound effect after getting grabbed. I didn't see any damage on my clothes, but when I looked more closely I saw that my scarf had been dropped to the ground and marked with an "x".

>each challenge mode gets one for surviving a month or however long of course
>achievement for restoring a car with total under 20% or 30% to 90%+
>achievement for every unique method of death so you can collect them all across runs (bleach, firearm suicide that they also need to add, dragged down, infected, poisoned, car crash, killed by player via melee/firearm etc)
>consolation prize achievements (bitten by lunger, caught in a storm at night while injured or sick, animal dies or is nursed back to health)
>genocide V with 800,000 zombie kills to represent rough original population of the game area (carrying the torch from l4d/dead rising)

it probably wouldn't be as annoying if you could actually lose an eye from head injuries (so you wouldn't be losing any additional sight by adding a patch, just covering the wound)
would incentivize people to wear helmets and goggles more too, at one point it was meta because stacked accessories getting knocked off by attacks always buffered bites but I think it was changed

I notice a lot of early access games don't have achievements, but I also have seen plenty of games add new achievements or change them in updates. Is there something in steam preventing early access games from adding achievements, or do they charge you to change them or something? I don't know why they wouldn't just throw some out for people to go for while the game's still being worked on unless there's some drawback.

Zomboid is a streamer-game. Streamers are paid to advertise the game using combinations of mods which makes the game look a lot more exciting and fun than it really is.
Then little timmy buys the game, and realizes the game has updated a single time and all the mods that looked fun are broken now.

Streamer games tend to do the heavy lifting by having flashy and clip-worthy moments built into the mechanics, Zomboid isn't really fun to watch unless the streamers themselves are entertaining. I'd say it's more of a Let's Play / "Playthrough Recap" game, like Space Station 13.

The advertisement doesn't come from the streams itself, the streams are just there to clip farm for hour long youtube movie/challenge videos. Most of those streamers don't get a lot of viewers when they go live, but those videos have absolutely done fuck tons of heavy lifting in convincing people to buy the game
>>
A lot of people get into Zomboid thinking it'll be some awesome multiplayer zombie apocalypse game when it really isn't.
Multiplayer servers are looted to fuck and back so you die from malnutrition, or if PVP is allowed, you get KO'd by naked max fit/str niggers stomping your head in.

it's not deceptive to stream for hours then do a highlight reel, anymore than it is to play single player as some youtubers do then make a highlight reel

IRL Jerry cans are sweet because you can stack them, you can easily carry four empty ones or two full ones, they're tough as hell, they float in water even when filled, the pouring nozzle basically makes no spills or 'glugs', and they are designed to expand and contract so temperature is not an issue for them.
These are all things that are really really useful IRL but completely omitted from the game, meaning that technically a cardboard box able to be filled with 20l of gasoline would be a better container than a fucking jerry can. It's retarded.
>>
>>2383566
Well, like anon said at least you can use them to boil water. I guess...

IRL they often have coatings on the inside that break down with water, so you'd be drinking pretty toxic water out of them lmao.
Plus I don't know if you can boil water in them ingame.
>>
>>2383854
>is it even possible to clear out a town or does migration guarantee that I will constantly be dealing with small hordes?
Without respawn you can absolutely clear entire towns, it's just going to take a while.
Zombies 'spawn' until 28 days on default settings, only after a solid month will you be able to clear a town.
If you're playing on B41(stable), the default settings has respawn turned on, which means you can never clear a town ever.
>>

While that would make perfect sense IRL, a big enough fire purifying a whole barrel of water, Lemmy disagrees that anyone in the 90's was capable of such thoughts.
Keep in mind he thinks people regularly drink the gasoline from their cars, smash them with hammers, then swallow the keys before parking it at somebody elses house.

Remember creative mode? What was that, ten years ago now? It was shown off around the same time Rosewood/Riverside got added and then they quietly shelved it, I cannot believe they're still using Tilezed internally. If you think about it, either countless man hours could have been saved by not making ekron/irvington/etc with an ancient toolset or they have a usable version of it on one of their internal builds for official mapping. I suspect it's the latter and it never got released to the public because modders would eat their lunch as usual; nobody would have given a fuck about those three rural towns in B42 if and when chinks are cranking out entire cities that don't look 50% copy-pasted like Louisville.

cash for clunkers and kars4kids killed the beater market so bad zoomers don't realize how many people were driving around shitboxes back then, it's rural kentucky in 1993 so I think you can handwave the poor white methheads having beaten up cars (and that's *before* they had to drive home panicked through a highway/town full of dead people)
>>
>>2385593
Cash for clunkers also had the side effect of kids and young adults not learning how to take care of their vehicles because "that's what a mechanic is for" even for simple shit like changing a tire or oil. It's pathetic, people can't even add wiper fluid anymore. A big win for dealers on multiple fronts, less used cars and a higher capture rate for maintenance. Then you have shit like transponder keys even on cars 25+ years old that if something happens and it stops working you literally have to tow it to the dealer and pay them $300 to push a button to reprogram the key because the machine isn't sold on the consumer market. (Ask me how I know about the last thing)

The axe is permanently nerfed if you don't have axeman, what are you talking about.
>without axeman: slow as fuck
>with axeman: normal swing speed
Axes are only worth it if you have the trait, they are not easy to make, improvished axe is total dogshit. Hatchets are fairly common and the cleaver isn't bad either, and both count as axes, but it's not the best weapon class. Long Blunt is easily better; there are more weapons, you can craft them from scrap, and they have insane knockdown.
>>
>>2385805
Oh yeah, I almost forgot: axes have sharpness whereas long blunt doesn't. Sharpness is a super gay mechanic, they go dull very fast.
Not the best weapon class by any means. I save them for killing trees and doors.
>>
>>2385815
>Sharpness is a super gay mechanic, they go dull very fast
get that maintenance up with long blunt/crowbar and pivot over to axe mid or late game when you have a ton of them lying around if you aren't speccing into axe at char gen, you can cut down like eight trees in a row without needing to sharpen a wood axe at level 4 maintenance
>>
>>2385840
why would i pivot to axe when i probably have at least 4-5 levels or more in long blunt? terrible advice. i'm already on the track to mastery with long blunt. you should use whatever weapon you have skill in at chargen because of the way XP works. otherwise you are always at a disadvantage. too bad there is no axe or long blunt weapon book like there is for long blade.
maintenance will go up no matter what. it doesn't cancel out the need to sharpen an axe constantly.
>>
>>2385593
>kars4kids
Ever check WHICH kids exactly benefits from "kars4kids"? It's exclusively for jewish israeli settler children who get the money. Nobody else, also since it's an israeli 'charity' there's no auditing or verification of how much money actually goes to those kids.
>>
>>2384815
Yeah but that's not the picture he used
>>2385593
This too. C4C removed over a third of the automobiles that were on the road at the time over the duration of its timespan. It had a second order effect of permanently driving up used and new car prices by a shitton too - for reference, my sister's first car in 1997 was a shitbox my parents bought her for 250 dollars and a six pack. It wasn't unusual for people to buy used cars for anywhere from 400-800 dollars cash.
Today the average cost of used cars is 25-30k and I've never, locally, seen anyone asking for less than 10k.
Yet some people like to pretend that somehow, this was all a good thing actually, this despite the fact that unlike today's used cars, old shitbox beaters could be repaired effectively indefinitely due to not having all the gadgets and bullshit bundled into vehicles made since the year 2000.
>>
>>2385805

Also trolling in Multiplayer by building shit on roads or dragging cars into commonly used paths.

I've done it a billion times playing with friends tho, because someone is inevitably gonna miss a turn and wreck the one good car we had, with all the shit we were carrying to our hideout, so now I'm towing it with a shit heap to bring it back home until we inevitably run out of space because the yard is filled with trashed vehicles and nobody have the mechanic skill AND the spare parts to fix any of them.

>>
>>2388069
thats what sandbox mode is for, modding if you really want to nail that.
>>
>>2388084
Sure, but 'just sandbox it!' is a nonsense argument as game should ideally be designed around an actual intent.
Zomboid's biggest issue for a good while now, is that seemingly not even the developers know what zomboid is 'supposed' to be.
It's a roguelike! Oh wait no, it takes way too long to 'beat'.
It's an RPG! Well no, skills don't really work like that and there's no real character building.
It's an isometric action game! Not really, so many nerfs to the action part of the game that you'll get your ass eaten if you swing a few too many times.
Etc
Zomboid could've turned into a pretty fun action isometric game with lite-RPG elements ala Alien Shooter 2 or something. But they went for a faggy nihilistic millennial game instead.
>>
>>2388093
i think sandbox mode is a good answer to that, but they should add more detailed ways to do shit like change values etc etc.

Although i do agree with that "biggest issue" thing. Its dragging the game down heavily and i hope the new guy they brought in is able to put the game back on track
>>
>>2388041
Aren't they set to "basic navigation" by default? They clearly understand that they can get into houses by smashing windows as opposed to just beating down doors and, unless you disable it, can roll and flop over fences and waist high obstacles to get at you. Why wouldn't they be able to also crawl under a vehicle?
>>
>>2388093
Sandbox games are designed around the idea that the player will use the sandbox to make their own fun. Zomboid has roguelite, rpg, etc. elements but it is and has fundamentally been for probably at least 8 years now a sandbox game.
>>
>>2388215
They focus doors if you go through a door, and focus windows if they see you go through a window.
If they saw the player crawl under a vehicle maybe that would allow them to crawl under, but you can't actually do that ingame.
>>
>>2388219
>but it is and has fundamentally been for probably at least 8 years now a sandbox game
Then why all the lore? Characters? Why restrict the setting so harshly if ultimately it's a 'fuck it, go wild!' game?
If you make a sandbox game, making the entire map identical to each other bit, is not the way to go, lmao.
Imagine if every location in Kenshi was just the starting town but larger/smaller. Jej
>>
>>2388228

>>
>>2391183
i'm fine with that if they give you methods to craft more useful things like kerosene and the creation of small steam engines to provide electricity. a very small steam engine is well within a garage mechanic's ability.
the game needs reasons to keep playing beyond a few months, and finding the correct materials to build engines or perform chemistry would provide long-term goals.
>>
>>2389390
>Sometimes I feel like instead of trying to make zombies make sense at all or feel threatening it would be better if they were just some kind of non-human creatures.
That's the issue with Zomboid being set around Romero styled zombies. They're great for film but they suck in terms of gameplay.
Hence why 99% of zombie games do romero+runner+special type infected. Or some combination of them. Also why no other game has them be a fucking 1 hit KO.
Weirdly enough populating Zomboid with the whole Resident Evil 1-3 enemy lineup would be KINO.
>>
>>2391369

zombies are scary because they number in the hundreds of thousands or millions, because they don't die from hunger or exposure. they're just relentless little murder machines, and they individual flimsiness can easily lead to overconfidence and complacency.
>>
>>2391496
What makes Resident Evil Zombies particularly corny? They're practically Romero zombies (except not actually undead, they die to body shots although it takes a lot)
>>
>>2391511

>>
>>2391496
?????
Zombies in RE are Romero style zombies. It's just that unless you burn them or destroy the head, they eventually turn into Crimson Heads or Lickers. Are you maybe talking specifically about the remake of 2 where they take a bajillion shots to the head to damage for some reason?
>>
>>2391520
Zombies don't always turn into lickers when 'downed' in RE, it's mostly the living ones that eventually turn. Downed zombies have a good chance of getting eaten by other zombies, as they're still living things that need food.

You're not thinking about how useful drawing in all those zombies is.
If the zombies are concentrated in one area, they aren't in other areas. Making most of the city totally safe.
Shoot a shotgun in a place you dont' care about, hang around until the zombies show up, then run away. Congrats you effectively cleared most of the city.

Retanaru will use guns outside to draw all the zombies outside, so he doesn't get jumpscared while looting.

Shotguns and rifles not overpenetrating zombies is bullshit.
A close range 12 gauge buckshot round will go clean through a person like they were made out of playdough, doubly so for rotted corpses.
A .223 round will do much of the same.

I'm tempted to try PZ again, but these days is there any kind of "end game" content beyond surviving? I'll get a little hidey hole set up with a small stockpile of supplies, but then I struggle to find goals for what to do afterwards. The next closest game to PZ I can think of is CDDA, which has plenty of big goals and end game stuff to seek out, but sometimes 3d graphics and real time gameplay are nice.

Iirc, the last time I played PZ cars weren't a thing and they had just recently implemented zombies pulling sheet ropes down from windows (to destroy the base meta at the time).

Ok? How boring...
>>
>>2392478
That would take actual effort, and also reveal how quickly you can 'win' the game. You can generally 'win' in the first month, first couple of weeks if you're good, and first week if you know what you're doing.
Especially baffling as the fucking game's initial version gave you a goal, take care of your wife.

Any chance they've added some procedural map generation or something, so I'm not exploring the same handful of towns over and over? Have they finally managed to make bunkers or sewer systems below the ground (can we dig out our own bunkers)?
>>
>>2392498
>Any chance they've added some procedural map generation or something
Yes.
But only the forests outside the map, which are randomly generated and...Really suck balls anyways alongside having bugs.
>Have they finally managed to make bunkers or sewer systems below the ground
No.
>can we dig out our own bunkers?
No.
But they added basements, with a catch!
They don't have any natural lighting so once the power turns off they are 100% useless.
Oh and they are RNG spawned, so you might find a bunch of basements, or you might find none, isn't that fun?
There's a few pre-placed basements but they are pretty rare.
>>

Please tell me they've managed to implement NPCs. At this point, it sounds like they've done basically nothing over the past few years.

Did they remove generators and lamps from the game?
>>
>>2392509
>Please tell me they've managed to implement NPCs
Come on, you know the answer to this already.
>At this point, it sounds like they've done basically nothing over the past few years
They updated the lighting engine/system (now everything is darker so you have to take Cats Eyes or be functionally blind most of the time) and added MMORPG style skill grinds and Ark Survival Evolved type tech trees.
>Did they remove generators and lamps from the game?
No, but having to run a generator 24/7 just to be able to see is a pain in the ass.

this is victim mentality. the steam workshop is right there. one click, enable mods. already you have a better game.
rimworld lives and dies by it's modding comunity. that game would be incredibly boring if modding had not been embraced. so it is with PZ.
modding is what makes the sandbox, you can't expect the devs to think of every toy. all they can do is make it as painless as possible. TIS doesn't even do that but the modders persevere.

the win condition is what you make it, but if you want a hard goal: make a safehouse in every town. clear LV. reach 1 million kills. get every skill to 10. get NIMBLE to 10. make a full forge setup. makes swords and level long blade to 10. find one of every single car including the NASCAR and restore them to mint condition. see how far off the map you can drive from Ekron.

I believe Sunflower Seed might be the best food source in the game. I'm playing modded so these values might be different, but each one provides 150 calories (I assume this is like a handful of seeds not a single fucking seed obviously), some fats, protein and carbs, -5 hunger, they last forever afaik, and you get 10 from every dried sunflower. 20 sunflower can be dried in a rack giving you 200 seeds per rotation, and it only takes 2 days to dry.
you can plant a field of sunflowers and eat for months if not years.

>>
>>2394412
>I believe Sunflower Seed might be the best food source in the game
Fish is. Takes the least effort to catch, can bloatmaxx you pretty quickly, can be found naturally all over the map.
Keep in mind it takes 10 whole days of starvation to go from 85 to 75 weight, and 'underweight' doesn't actually hurt you for another 40 fucking days when you weigh only 35 kilograms.
That gives you 50 days to catch a fish large enough to pack on the pounds, more than enough time to scoot around the whole map eating naturally found mushrooms, lettuces, etc with foraging to keep the hunger moodle away.
>>
>>2394675
>can be found naturally all over the map.
literally can only be found in bodies of water, muldraugh and rosewood do not have easy access to water at least until the zombie population is thinned out, and even then it is not a hike but a drive away. valley station has little water and is spread out, requiring driving most likely to fish. LV is of course water poor except by the river. driving every day to fish is not particularly viable, and you will be driving frequently because fish spoils, unless you are storing it in a fridge. also, loud noises scare fish, so if there's a meta event or something you could lose your fishing day.
if you base right next to water it's very good, but only if you are a short hike from a body of water, preferably the major rivers or lakes. there needs to be better farming methods of getting calories. i'm experimenting with pigs but they don't breed very fast at all. also, fun fact, i had a dairy cow, that mysteriously stopped being pregnant after i reloaded a save. i assume this is a bug and not a random miscarriage less than two weeks after a pregnancy. i'm trying to get more and a STRONG BLACK BVLL to keep them producing milk.
>>
>>2395019
There's 5 whole bodies of water all around Muldraugh to fish from lmao. And you really only need 1.
Rosewood only has 1 nearby, but then again why are you basing in Rosewood anyways? It's the shittiest vanilla town.
And again, you have over 10 days to get to water and gulp down 20 kilograms of fish to get fat again. If you can't do that, it's on you.
Calories=fattness
Literally anything=Satiety
You can keep a character from suffering hunger damage from lettuce leaves and foraged mushrooms.
>>
>>2395053
all i'm saying is, it's best to have a diversified food supply
i am currently processing these sunflower heads i gathered in Valley Forge, I took maybe 20 plants from a garden that has about 100 and it's going to provide me with over a thousand seeds all told. i can snack on those for months without having to spend a moment fishing, if i supplement with a stick of butter i'll have almost constant double chevrons. extremely easy to get fat and stay fat with zero extra effort.
but yes fishing is very viable, provided you are near water. and get the first few levels. and get a good spot.
>>
>>2395091
>Valley Forge
Station*

>>
>>2395094

______ :-D ____________
>>
>>2395091
There's really no reason to have diversified food supply when the character literally needs to starve for 40 days to actually die, outside of 'hunger death' which can be avoided by eating what is effectively cardboard.
If you want to go through the effort of farming, that's fine. But it's a self imposed challenge.
>>
>>2395170
there are lots of good reasons to not starve yourself, like carry weight and combat disadvantages to being thin. maintaining your weight somewhere in the 75-85 range is optimal and any deviation is suboptimal.
which is achievable with fishing but, again, fishing has opportunity cost. i find the opportunity costs of farming minimal. i turn off seasons though, because i'm not going to wait six months to start farming. i've never even survived six months.
the funny thing is almost no one plays more than a few months so these arguments like what is the best long-term food, what is the best weapon overall, etc. are largely moot. the best weapon is whatever is on hand. the best food is fish, because you won't be playing into winter anyway.

what makes a (singular) zombie scary (which is rarely ever explored in media but is briefly touched upon in some radio dialogue from zomboid) is that it goes against all laws of nature and normalcy; there is no life behind the eyes of a zombie yet they will stare at you. it has no soul yet it feels bitter hatred towards you. it has no bodily functions yet it hungers. it has no energy yet it can pursue you, so on and so forth. it's one and only desire is to tear apart and consume the living, never stopping unless its killed. the combination of inhumanity and humanity is what makes a zombie compelling. just imagine how you would feel if a relative or someone you love died, feeling the weight and grief of such an event only to see their remains begin moving and essentially be puppeteered by some illness to kill you and spread itself.

what makes (multiple) zombies is scary is that everything ive mentioned earlier is multiplied by 100x. imagine being surrounded with no way out watching them shamble over eachother trying to eat you alive all the while it fucking stinks like crazy because there are dozens if not hundreds of decaying corpses approaching you.

I dont think you realize that basically every concept in horror when boiled down to its most basic, absurd elements almost immediately becomes banal, boring and ofcourse; not scary. I have no idea why they insist on towing being dogshit, every version of the game since vehicles got added has had a mod to un-fuck towing values - oft-changed but never for the better - and make it reasonable.

The real solution to vehicle balancing and their standout usefulness is raising their fuel consumption, SOD2 has a more arcadey draining rate so you're stopping to fuel often (at risk of getting caught with your pants down) instead of stretching one tank out for days. God knows there are enough gas stations on the map at this point prevent MP monopolizing. All bad towing does is inadvertently nerf innawoods playstyles, a pick-up truck should be able to consistently pull a trailer or camper down a dirt road. Making them fragile didn't stop people from doing donuts in reverse and cheesing hordes with spare cars either.

Did they change how depression works? I'm playing a Veteran character but they're ALWAYS depressed. Even after I clear it by reading books and eating nice stuff by the end of the day they're MISERABLE.

Is it being covered in blood? Is it because they always have kneed and elbow pads on (even though veteran turns off discomfort)

What the fuck
>>
>>2401209
Instead of making fuel costs retarded, just make maintaining the battery a bigger deal. Even if you keep a bunch of spares in the trunk, you'll still have to expose yourself to uninstall the current one and install the new one, or to use tools to work on the current battery installed.

Desensitized removes all panic sources except for nightmares, and increases your chance of having nightmares. Go take some meds, or read a good book, or eat some ice cream. getting to the point i almost wished Notch would come out of retirement and take over development of this game.
>>
>>2406688
If Notch took over development he'd add even more needless busywork, then sell the game to Microslop who then never develops it again lmao.
>>
>>2406694
can you imagine the TIS butthurt if Notch made another billion dollars selling PZ to microslop kek
>>
>>2406699
PZ isn't remotely worth as much as Minecraft.
Minecraft is basically the golden example of 'early access' turning out okay and everyone and their grandma knows what Minecraft is.
PZ somehow had a major patch that made just about everything worse, and only autists and trannies know about the game's existence.
It's kind of baffling that Chud's progress on fixing the game is going pretty well, but most of the work is reverting shit to B41 sensibilities.

>>2406655
I know the game basically drowns you in ammo now, but as scarce as ammo could be before, finding a reloading tool and gunpowder to make different kinds of ammo was so cool. And the guns all had prefabbed attachments that made them great finds, like the EAGLE being a long range pistol because of its scope.

even CDDA with it's fuckload of foods and recipes doesn't let you put whatever you want together and call it a meal. in PZ there's no penalty for some disgusting slop in a pan. in CDDA you have to make recipes that actually work right down to the spices used. even their jungle juices have to be recognized Russian swill of some sort.

>here's your cooking level 10, bro
The funniest thing is that cooking is genuinely pretty worthless, outside of simple 'make raw meat cooked and therefore edible' stuff.
You might literally burn more calories waddling around getting ingredients in your kitchen to cook, than the meal bonus provides. It's that pointless.

The Ark is really kino so far guys...
>>
>>2410273
i find story mods really fucking boring, and like 80% of the fun for me is looting, finding those key items, and building a base. all of which is done for you in The Ark. you just have the story and some looting which doesn't really matter because the bunker has fuckloads of stuff. and shitass bandits of course which can end your game for you.
i can't see myself playing it, let alone enjoying it.
>>
>>2410662
The Ark is an actual video game though. With a story, npc's, actual tangible goals (like "go to this town, find an oil tanker, fix it up and drive it back here to refill the base's oil before it runs dry. or don't and let us all fucking die i guess lol"). The combat is really fun and the looting is made fairly interesting by the radiation mechanic. The only thing is I wish it had an actual save/load feature instead of having to copy and paste my save file, since the mod itself recommends save scumming so you don't lose all your progress if you die.
>>
>>2410130
my goal is LSU. i want access to the library.
i'll probably have to kill 10k zombies to get there if i were to guess. and that's probably an underestimate.

it's easy to break line of sight in forests, it's hard in a city of buildings and every one has zombies.
idk, i'm just gonna take LV one day at a time. if i can keep recharging filters, i can keep filling the streets with the dead. maybe i'll make some pipe bombs. i don't want to mototov in a city either.

>>
>>2410918
>Did they at least properly fix staling instead of importing it too?

>>
>>2410926
TL;DR B41 servers have a bug where zombie position serverside doesn't update from their origin and thus you can just kite zombies until they get deleted for being too far from where they should be.
There's other shit involved but i don't understand the inner workings enough to translate it. It's explained in more detail on ZombieFix's modpage though.

well you should definitely try firearms because yes, every single zombie that hears it will immediately beacon to where you fired the gun. it's exhilarating. as long as you don't have sprinters and have a vehicle, it's unlikely to cause you a problem. it's very useful to clear a neighborhood if you fire somewhere you don't care about, then dip.

It's fun, but janky. Definitely less janky than Week One, but still. Probably the worst thing about it is how finnicky all the micromanagement is and how actually absolutely fucking shitty it can be to keep up with everything because the game won't give you five seconds to breathe and take care of a problem. Example:
>Bandits raid the bunker
>Realistically they shouldn't be able to get inside but arbitrarily, you cannot really lock the bunker doors, and if you could, they'd just stand there for an infinite amount of time until they broke through them all, ultimately irradiating your entire base over time
>So they're inside and you kill them
>If you are not wearing a hazmat suit literally 24/7 you will get blasted with rads just standing near the bodies
>You have to strip them of all their inventory then drag each individual body into the decontamination chamber to decontaminate them all and yourself
>If you've already been irradiated your character will scream uncontrollably and begin developing full body burns lol basically restart the game or, if you've been savescumming, reload your most recent save
>So anyway say you were wearing your hazmat suit like a good little bunkcuck, successfully kill the bandits or have Emma (waifu npc) kill them for you, while you're busy trying to get them into decon, uh oh the gunfire drew zombies! you now must stop what you're doing and fight off a hoard of the undead (hope you carry an arsenal on you at all times lol because there's going to be a lot of them) because if you dont Emma will try to do that and get eaten instead
>they're all irradiated too lol so I hope you didn't let any get past the decon room, because otherwise you have a lot more work to do now
>UH OH earthquaaaaaaake! stop what you're doing because you're dizzy and can't see shit and now you have to go topside when the earthquake subsides, find the vent that got broke, or you suffocate
>still haven't finished taking the bandits through decon

Most recent update on May 1st made it so you can just drag the bodies into the decontamination room and it'll decontaminate their inventories too
I'm ngl I don't like the radiation mechanic at all, it makes most encounters instant death if you get hit even once, since for example if you're out trying to find tools to fix shit with and get shot by a bandit, an injury that should be tolerable to deal with - a single gunshot wound to the arm - is now going to kill you if you're not within spitting distance of The Ark's entrance because you'll soak in too many rads and start cooking in your suit.
Also
>mfw didn't start as an electrician, can't maintain the generators at all unless i find a magazine for it
>>
>>2420096
It's crazy how valuable an electrician start is because its the only skill you don't can't get points for from perks. Starting the game as an Electrician is basically mandatory so you can work on the generator and craft an improvised screwdriver in the event the game cucks you out of not having one in the bunker already
>>
>>2420092
>>2420096
Sounds tedious as fuck.
TIS will probably hire this guy.
>>
>>2420126
Improv. screwdriver only needs maint. 1 now
but you're right about the Generator stuff.
>>2420312
It's only tedious when you don't really know what to do, mostly, but that's after some updates. Unlike TIS Slayer actually listens to community feedback. The game is much, much more playable now than it was on launch and that was only two weeks ago. The actual tedious mechanic is that the gas mask filters don't last any time at all because Lemmy is a complete FUCKTARD and coded them a.) to have low durability and b.) to have their use rate tied to frame rate, so if you have over 30 FPS it actually depletes faster than its supposed to. Slayer fixed the latter bug himself on May 1st, and someone else made an adjustment mod for the gasmasks as an add-on that makes it feel better to use.
>>
>>2420338
>be lemmy

>>
>>2420126
Electrician is barely mandatory lmao. Any retard can read the generator magazine and it's not like generators are useful anyways.
>>
>>2420345
How would you repair a hazmat suit? Melt layers of clingwrap over holes?
>>
>>2420346
In Ark, the world starts irradiated for a month and all kinds of bad shit happens if your generator gets fucked including but not limited to: fires starting and destroying all your supplies, permanent bunker damage, no AC (so the nuclear winter outside freezes you all to death), no ventilation (so you all die of CO2 poisoning), etc.
There is no guarantee the magazine spawns in the bunker or in March Ridge. If you don't take Electrician you're fucked unless you get lucky with a bandit spawn or a spawn in March Ridge or Muldraugh, since you have maybe 2-3 days of leeway before you get absolutely fucked

but there's lot of stuff in LV you can't get anywhere. the infrastructure, for one. if you want to live in a tower, they're all in LV. there's also locations like LSU library and the bat factory, that have very specific concentrations of loot.
also, this is an exploration and zombie fighting game, LV has tons of that. if you don't cheese the map you could spend a very long time exploring LV and not find everything.
though i do think they made getting into LV too hard, there should be a couple more entryways, like a place the fence was cut into after the military collapsed. group of survivors getting out couldn't cut some chainlink? fighting through the checkpoint was a fucking gauntlet.

i agree it's not a good idea, like a slightly less bad basement, zombie pathing and the way this game handles ropes/stairs makes deviating from z:0 a bad idea in general.

Ripping them out of other cars you don't want to use.
Don't use repair parts until you have a fair bit of mechanics skill.

i have lvl 5, should i go higher?
btw the armory in LV checkpoint kicks ass. so many m16s...

i went ahead and hotwired a van to go see what LSU looks like.
the road there is very easy, but the university is FUCKED, goddamn place is overrun. and it's all spread out, no easy zombie funneling.
this is gonna be harder than the checkpoint.

i went from 2k to 5k kills clearing a path through the checkpoint and refugee camp
i wonder what it will be when i finally secure the library.

Did weak stomach get way more deadly recently? Even though my water is, supposedly, clean and my food is fresh I'm still getting sick and then dying from it despite using lemongrass.
>>
>>2423017
Weak Stomach now gives you a chance to get sick from any food or water, this occurs independently from the usual sickness chance from eating bad food/tainted water. It's no longer worth taking at all.
>>
>>2423026
Nice b8, it's believable thanks to Lemmy's bullshit.
>>2423017
Clean water and good food never gives you sickness, ever.
Burnt food=guaranteed death
Rotten food=guaranteed death
Bleach/poisonous mushrooms=guaranteed death
Lemongrass only saves you one time, and only if you eat a single bad item, it takes a solid day to refresh the lemongrass timer.
>>
>>2423044
I have no idea what the fuck is making me sick then
>>
>>2423097
Most likely you're getting sick due to zombie corpses being nearby.
>>
>>2423097
Did you eat something while bloody? Or from a bloody/dirty bowl etc.? If so you can taint fresh food/water that way when you consume it
>>
>>2423116
>If so you can taint fresh food/water that way when you consume it
Also not true, you can be head to toe covered in blood and all it does is affect your comfort and wound infection chance.
>>
>>2423106
There are no corpses nearby, I keep my base clean
>>2423116
I wasn't really thinking about it but I guess that could be it, maybe
>>
>>2423141
Are you playing with any mods that might affect how sickness or mechanics work?
>>
>>2423127
>Yes, in Project Zomboid Build 42, eating food from a bloody or dirty bowl—or preparing food with bloody hands—carries a risk of causing food poisoning, resulting in nausea and possibly character death.Key Details for B42:Cause: Using contaminated containers or preparing food while covered in zombie blood increases the risk of sickness.Prevention: Wash your character and cookware before eating or preparing meals.Treatment: If you become sick, use lemongrass to help counteract food poisoning.
>>
>>2423154
Are you seriously using AI to answer questions when Zomboid documentation is famously so dogshit that even decade-long players of the game have no clue how half the mechanics work?
You can make meals using bloodied knives, wearing bloodied clothes and eat with a bloodied fork. Does not confer any sickness to the player.
>>
>>2423148
To my understanding no, I'm playing The Ark but as far as I'm aware it doesn't change sickness mechanics at all
>>
>>2423184
>I'm playing The Ark but as far as I'm aware it doesn't change sickness mechanics at all
Uninstall the mod, do the same things in vanilla and see what happens. If you don't get sick, it's likely a mechanic of The Ark.
>>
>>2423180
It has sauce from the pzwiki, tis forums and steam forums. I trust that more than I trust you tbdesu
>>
>>2423193
There isn't a single mechanic ingame that changes sickness values based on items being covered in blood or not.
Stop b8ing.
>>
>>2423191
I think I understand what's going on now. So in The Ark when you take something out of the base or from outside into the base, it's irradiated and has to be decontaminated in the decontamination room. If I take a bottle of purified water outside it becomes irradiated, and when I take it back inside, it gets decontaminated ... but it remains tainted.
>>
>>2423217
>slayer once again proving he is the son of lemmy
>>
>>2423217
>Why am I getting sick when all my items are highly irradiated?
You maybe should've been able to figure that one out sooner.
>>
>>2423224
Yeah. It never occured to me that if I take purified, perfectly safe to drink water outside with me then run it through decon that it'd become tainted water from that. It sort of makes sense in a jank way once I think about it, but I still don't like it. Honestly The Ark becomes incredibly punishing for people who take stuff like High Thirst or Hearty Appetite.
>>
>>2423184
>My mods aren't changing anything!
>>2423217
>Okay it was the mods
Jej, every time somebody has something weird go on in Zomboid its due to mods.
>>
>>2423230
It's not that the items are irradiated when I drink them. What was happening is that I'll have Fresh food and Water in my inventory that becomes irradiated when I go outside, then when I come back and decontaminate it, the items in my inventory will still say e.g.
>Oatmeal (Fresh)
because they're not irradiated anymore. They look perfectly normal and safe to consume, but have actually become stealth-tainted, something you'll only know if you have the tooltip for tainted on and then examine the tooltip. Even then it's only actually telling me its tainted on water, but from some testing I just did, it taints normal food too.
>>
>>2423243
I mean why would the player know the food is radioactive? It's hard to tell from a glance.
>>
>>2423241
It's the only mod I have and it doesn't explain any of this on the mod page or any of its vague documentation, to be fair. I also didn't say it's impossible, just that if it was, it wasn't something the mod mentioned it would be changing.

in a freezer it will last indefinitely, at least on apocalypse settings. and yes if i am going to go to the trouble of raising fucking animals, i expect a BVLL to give me like 40k calories at least.
though i have to be honest, this run is probably the last time i will raise animals. it's easy mode food and i spend a lot of time picking up shit and putting it in the composter.

is there a good way to prevent saplings from growing over a long path without building wooden floors down the entire road? spending two or three days out of each month cutting bushes just to leave my place is annoying, it should be 10 tiles to a bag of gravel instead of 4 since they're rare and you're still going through the trouble of laying it yourself instead of dumping it out the back of a truck like people do irl

What's funny is that actually, peasants weren't typically toothless. At least medieval european ones that is, due to having robust diets, and generally taking pretty good care of their teeth e.g. with antimicrobial sap "gum" to clean their teeth with. Aside from the vitamins - not that they knew that was why it was helping them - one of the reasons fruits like lemon and orange were popular among sailors was the many uses they had for the rinds, from cleaning their teeth to cooking. The main causes of tooth loss at the time were gum disease and wear; the former was basically unheard of outside the poorest of the poorest of the poor (i.e. people who were already typically starving and lived in squalor, not serfs or other working peasants) and the upper echelons of society who had really shitty diets and also didn't really clean their teeth to the extent peasants did (though this was incidental, they actually thought what they did was much cleanlier) - they'd dip linen in vinegar or wine to wipe their teeth, but that was really as far as it went for them. As for tooth wear, this wasn't a widespread issue particularly in the parts of Europe that had been under Roman control, even after Rome fell due to Rome's incredibly strict laws and culture surrounding the creation of flour and the baking of bread. But parts of the country that had less supervision and less of a high trust culture would have loaves cut with sawdust or fine gravel, which wore at the teeth of people who ate it over time.
Sorry I just wanted to talk about that for a minute

Yeah pretty much, our dental hygiene today is immensely worse than most european peasants more or less just because we eat like shit and consume mountains of processed sugar

sheep are way more useful than the other animals without clipping into your walls or taking up an entire animal trailer just to move a single one like cows or needing babysat every single day like chickens

take the sheep pill
