There were some leaked BO2 Dev Documents and there are some interesting tidbits in them. For instance originally wanted include the "Save and Quit" feature in BO2 Zombies, but with the ability to share your save game with other people.

The feature would've been called "Echoes" and instead of just being used to come back to your game after a break, the main intended use of this feature seems to be for challenges like having someone start on Round 35 with only pistols or something. This was most likely cut at some point in development due to the amount of work it would take to get something like this to work, and BO2 Zombies is extremely famous for the amount of sheer content the team wanted to include at launch, but was forced to cut.

I seems like back then only about 25% of the content planned for launch ever made it into the game.

Black Ops 6 is gonna be leaving CoD HQ soon, so we can expect an announcement in the coming weeks or months. BO6 dev builds are being pushed daily, that includes a new stand alone version of the anticheat specifically for BO6, just like it happened with MW2/MW3.
All of that is also pretty much supported by cod24-cod.exe being included in the configuration for the dev builds at the moment.

Black Ops haven't been a M1911 game since the first game.

BO2 featured the gun in zombies and parts of the campaign.
BO3 didn't have it until the second year locked behind supply drops or remade zombies maps.
BO4 had no M1911 period.
Cold War added it back but it had no explosive effects in zombies and multiplayer was dominated by shotgun secondaries.
BO6 didn't have it.
BO7 added a knock-off version.

That leaves only BO1 where the gun was in every mode alongside its explosive effects in zombies and an authentic Colt model.

BO6 is fast but predictable and predictability really matters in mastering any FPS not just CoD. BO7 is unpredictable, so is MW2022 and MW2023 to a lesser degree because of how the speed values are adjusted. This is also why BO3 and Infinite Warfare played better than BO7, they had jetpacks and wall running but they weren't fast at all. BO7 is the worst of both worlds.

Regardless of how many launchers and platforms companies will push PC players can and will download whatever game they want (99.999% that matter anyway). Even MP games might get the same treatment if that SKG initiative bears fruit. When it comes to OS it's hard to argue windows is the go-to gaming platform, but funnily enough valve did most by making their steam machine os linux based. Hopefully in time this OS will turn into something people and devs will come to use.

So it's a proverbial situation of "70% of something is better than 100% of nothing". The reason why BO7 zombies is failing big is because it's trying to bring back the BO3/4 crowd but without the appeal. BO7 maps still share the same design philosophy as Cold War and BO6 but the difference is they made the basic easter eggs like getting wonder weapons more convoluted and harder, losing the casual Cold War audience in the process while still making maps that aren't different enough to keep the BO3 crowd engaged. What you get is an identity crisis product that doesn't know what it should do because they didn't set rules for themselves. First it's purple tranzit, then it's space and cartoon aliens, then it's Nuketown, then it's World Of Warcraft mixed with Call Of the Dead. All of those should be exciting but the execution is half measures because it's still a modern zombies game at heart so again they can't balance between the two designs, they have to keep the grindy gameplay going.

Not mentioning the story where they abandoned literally everything from Cold War and retconned the dark aether to hell, leaving the only crowd who stuck with them from Die Machine alienated and conflicted because that's what BO7 is. A conflicted game that doesn't know what it should be. Is it a BO2 sequel? A BO4 prequel? A BO6 reskin? I guess we'll never know.
