The only relation it has to Zelda is the green shade, the only thing it has in common with Final Fantasy is that you build a party. Dark Cloud 1 is also just a tech demo for their superior in all ways game, Dark Cloud 2.

You'll have plenty of time to learn even if you join next koko for the first time, which you should.

As the person hosting it I'm an extremely casual player who's only done seasonal bosses. I haven't played much since the shipwrecked additions/lunar quests, nor have I done any of the cave shit, so don't feel like you need to have a wealth of knowledge or experience to play. Just drop in/drop out at will.Next host will likely be Thursday, currently day 30 with a small base and 1 of 30ish bosses dead.

>>2458344As far as content goes, almost every survivor is reworked and some are given skill trees, and there is a lot more to fight and explore in general, on the surface, in the caves, and if you can bear with the game's annoying (comparatively to sw) boating mechanics, on the ocean too. Farming is reworked, there are crop-specific seeds so it isn't a complete gamble to farm for specific crops, and if you bother with caring for your crops properly, they give many times the yield that they would if you planted a seed down and ignored it until it was mature.It's also more of a sandbox survival game with a larger focus on exploration, compared to singleplayer which sold itself on being an 'uncompromising wilderness survival game'. Just staying alive is easier (dfly isn't a seasonal boss anymore and has sensible enrage mechanics), but raid bosses are way harder and more involved than in singleplayer. I think the closest thing to a boss questline in singleplayer is killing both the Iron Hulk and Pugalisk in Hamlet to make an exosuit that destroys itself after you use it once. Meanwhile if you want to kill the last boss from the lunar questline, you will need to kill at least 5 bosses before it and seek out 2 niche biomes, and this isn't even to mention the shadow questline and the plethora of raid bosses not tied to either of the questlines. The game is theoretically harder and has a lot more content, but since you need to seek out this content and difficulty by actively looking for it, it somehow manages to not be overwhelming and cater to both casuals who just want to farm and sweats who want to behead every boss in a year.Having played both singleplayer and DST (though admittedly a lot more DST than singleplayer), I think it's a better game overall, despite being very different from it.
