Better start practicing tying a noose now, you will be very embarrassed if you're too retarded to even kill yourself when the time comes.

Did they fix the godaweful quality system yet? Not touching crafting anyway.
>>

I heard something about reducing quality amount.

>>2465066
Ironclad (a) is unplayably buggy and a true multicrew ship with only torps on pilot. But yes.

This has worked smoothly so far, granted I was on low pop shards.
Docking snaps very easily with my Aurora but the Perseus is a bit of a struggle.
>>
>>2465148
Each type of mineral gem etc has a band of quality.
For instance. Iron mid band is 600 lets say. Top band is 800. Best is 1000. You will never find iron that's not 600, 800 or 1000 quality.
Meanwhile copper will have 650 mid, 780 top and 1000 best.
(not actual numbers)
The idea is that there's only 4 different quality numbers for a mineral so you can stack shit in your inventory. Also it means when they implement the ability to substitute minerals for other minerals, you'll be able to substitute a mineral that has a better quality band than the one the item uses by default that you may have more of.

The Tiburon is completely retarded, they should've just slapped on the fucking beam cannon on the current hammerhead with it's stupid-fuck "speed hole" or at the very least turn that space into a fucking barracks for marines, but no they went full retard instead with the Tiburon, also the fucking anvil odin looks like a retarded piece of shit with far too many of it's singular guns being extremely limited in terms of firing arcs and they're gonna fucking slap on a fucking 6000 dollarino pricetag on there if not closer to 7000 cause 'fuck you godless goyim meat animal, pay for the jpeg!'

I cannot understand what is so hard about copying eve.

They also already have three ways of controlling rarity (amount of ore in asteroid, amount of asteroid of type, amount of material required for crafting) so why the fuck would you add a fourth. Junior game developer stuff.
>>
>>2465491
You could even make rarity by location of the type of asteroid. If all Xylitol ultra rare material astroids are in single poi in pyro, it becomes quite rare by definition due to being so contested.
>>
>>2465491
>I cannot understand what is so hard about copying eve.
Chris and co are far too egotistical to copy Eve.

EVE is fucking boring.
>>
>>2465942
100%.
But the systems in place work well. Especially the economy systems which are all player driven.
You need to build something? Put in an order for the materials.
Someone else goes out and mines the materials and fills your order.
It's delivered to you because someone has picked up the order and taken it to the station you're at.
And it happens seamlessly.
The fact I can't have someone deliver my shit from pyro to stanton after a decade of development is in itself a fucking travesty.
Why can't I fill out a delivery request, someone picks up my shit at checkmate, flies it to orison and drops it off for me to use?
If he loses it or steals it, he pays me whatever I've put as the insurance amount for the job.
Why can't we do that yet?
Why is it only the last patch a day ago that lets me scroll past 100 names in the fucking chat list?
Why does this game not even have the most basic fucking tools in place yet after a fucking decade?
>>
>>2466074
>Someone else goes out and mines the materials and fills your order.
And then they create gay universe-spanning cartels that hike up the prices dramatically, gatekeeping certain parts of the game with their thousands of alt accounts and bots.
>>
>>2466093
Sounds like you want to play a single player game. Maybe this isn't the game for you bro.
>>
They canceled the free-fly
>>
>>2466104
Anon, I played EVE from 2006-2023.
I eventually had to quit because I realized all the public access PVP events like FW were filled with chinese botters. If that's what you want the game to turn into then you can just play EvE instead.
>>
>>2466093
sc is harder to multibox. Hence we dont have gunners on all ships, if it was easy, id do it right now.

The base idea of eve resource -> crafting is completely fine. Not everything should be copied from eve naturally.
But copying ore quality from rust-style games (like last oasis) is really dumb.
>>
Q: What about the Idris laser and current bugs?
A: There were hit improvements but then also there was a bug with how some of the damage was passed on. An elegant solution is being worked on. These bugs are unfortunately also present in the Tiburon.

Maybe I'll get excited about them if I ever play sq42? Is vanduul something from the old games or why is it such a big thing? Why are the aliens on SC so boring?
>>
>>2466830
Aside from contracts lagging I've had a good time in Nyx. Its probably because of everyone setting their homes in Stanton and visiting Arccorp, and overloading the servers for those areas.
Given that a shard caps at 600 and Nyx/Pyro server pops are 20 at most, there's roughly 400-500 in Stanton. They'll be hitting 100 per server easily and thats never been playable even before server meshing.
>>
>>2467013
I was trying to figure out where to settle in, might go Nyx this time. Are there multiple stations yet?
>>
>>2467023
There are four service stations that you can choose as home. AFAIK no amenities at these except basic armor/guns shop.
>>
>>2467023
Remember to be careful with using Levski though, they haven't fixed ships disappearing out from under you in the hangars.
>>
>>2467023
Nyx service stations if you want to be close to all new content.

Pyro if you want peace and quiet. Easily the least pvp and if there is pvp - law of the jungle.
>>
>>2467023
I would also mention that if you care about doing mining/crafting nonsense, Levski has all the best refinery bonuses. Makes it much easier when you can just drop everything at the same station instead of having to consolidate refined ores to whatever station you want to craft at
>>
>leave hangar to go buy some basic gear after spawning in for the first time

>lift refuses to take me to my hangar, just loops back around to the spaceport lobby
>look at asop terminal
>ironclad that was on the pad is now showing as unknown
>costs more than I have to claim it with the paint

Thanks bros, I'm sold for this patch. Having everything in Nyx should make the Stanton Gate <> Nyx pirating loop easier.

>>2467090
I like Pyro, but between its size and the ironic peacefulness of it, I don't enjoy playing there much. Contested zones are nice on the stations and have lead to a few 11/10 pucker situations, but it's so hard to run into other players in organic situations I prefer Stanton

Pyro has the best planet ost tracks in the game though:
>Bloom Theme
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ologs0fddRA
>Monox Theme
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzB_-yd3CKs

Bonus Unrelated Track:
>Onyx Facility BGM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-ASui_L2ik

Pedro is actually a decent composer. I like that he is actually making BGM-tier melodic music rather than all the ambience slop we've been getting in games lately. I wish they'd pick up Jeremy Soule to compliment him.

Its a nice goal to aim for, it depends on how small a server-area can be under DSM. Even QDSM could get a cap over 1k if the areas are smaller than currently.
He's also stated that if they can't do it then they'll move on without it.

This is why I stopped logging in on x.x.0 patches:

>I'm a star citizen
>have cool pvp ship - light fighter
>log onto arena commander to fight against other players in consequence-free environment
>everyone uses macros to shake their target lead pip, making it impossible to hit them
>ragequit and go to PU for pvp
>Try hunting some player bounties down
>spend an hour finding a bounty, but finally find one and engage
>try to missile dump on them for lulz, but missiles don't appear to work anymore, can't lock on
>engage with guns, fight is going good until enemy suddenly jerks and snaps, instant transmitting like Goku behind me, blasting me to smithereens with a few short volleys of apparently new meta build with weapons that didn't even work last patch.
>respawn at nearby station, reclaim ship and wait for reclaim timer to end before respawning it
>all hell is breaking loose at the station as I'm launching, so I join local ai forces to defend againt ai pirates
>get crimestat for attacking hostile pirate ships, lose bounty
>sigh
>go to hack crimestat away at security database on Microtech, having to fight through AA turrets on the outside, and ai bots on the inside
>Reach terminal, only to see that it has been disabled since last patch.
>Now have level 5 crimestat from killing guards and trespassing on security database outpost
>see "anon has left his ship's channel" indicating my ship just despawned
>step outside of base to confirm this and get strafed by player bounty hunter that was tracking my bounty this whole time
>wake up in jail with 11 hour sentence
>decide to try mining in jail for the first time, to see how the merit system works (ore for reduced sentence)
>have to kill self, in a fit of ennui, several times to get mining tool to work.
>finally mine many crystals, but can't turn them in - the mining turn-in kiosk is bugged
>server 30ks and crashes, when I log back in, all my mined crystals are gone
>mfw ragequit and contemplate going outdoors
>>
>>2467409
I'm going to let you in on a secret.
We will NEVER reach 10k player servers. NEVER.
>>
>>2467420
The game is ass. Everyone knows this. And everyone keeps on spending on jpegs.
Because the game isn't important to spenders. It never was.
What's important is saying you've got an idris and playing captain picard in your head.
The actual real game is secondary to that.
So they keep spending.
The game keeps getting worse.

tbf, they fixed most of the bugs from when this greentext was made, this was from an old patch, 3.x, I believe. Or at least I hope they did. I might just be avoiding ingame prison at this rate. Either way, I perfected a system of getting out and back to Hurston orbiting station in 15 minutes (you can spawn 100i at the nearby emergency shelter that is supposed to only spawn ground vehicles)
>>
>>2467483
>Or at least I hope they did
They didn't. You can still get a crime stat from that action. Your ship can despawn from anywhere. Bounties are broken as fuck. Killing guards nets you high crime stats that you cannot get rid of. You can only lower your crim stat at one place and it's often bugged to fuck. There are plenty of 24 hour jail sentences going around for high crime stats. 30k's were happening a lot last patch and you'll lose everything. Oh and missiles sometimes still don't work and won't lock.
>they fixed it
That's the point. Nothing has been fixed as of the last patch and there's no indication any of that has been fixed in 4.8.
>>
>>2467370
Pyro is the real PvE area as I said earlier.

I dislike the shitty fantasy mad max aesthetic. Nyx is better in looking like a place people actually live in.

as for piracy, best thing is to look for whatever exploit or moneymaking scheme comes up and people swarm that. Gonna be a lot of traffic there.

I'm sympathetic to pvp fags so I'll give a potential exploit to check out if you get bored.
Places like QV stations and QVB stations exist in specific spots...
so, say - if you were to drop ships there, - like pulse that is small and cheap.

You could theoretically go check each one out to see if there are any friendly interactions to be had.
>>
>>2467581
Dropping pulses sounds like a good idea. What ship are you vulturing in? I usually switch between corsair or connie for solo opportunistic pirating since you can load loot and head out.
>>
>>2467650
Im a your regular pvevp. Call me a bob that figths back.

I just see opportunities I don't take. Also my larp is to be totally neutral party.
Ship I'd use depends completely on what im doing and how many people I have with me. Remember that Mantis eats up one guy if you want to do the traffic lanes.
All the pvpfags fly fighters, last time I got fucked I was on 2 man polaris against 6 fighters and perseus. (pirates like perseus to open caps)

Before that I was in 3 man polaris and we got away from similar gank by 360 noscope torpedo to the mantis trying to keep in range. Got away with 1 engine.

A lot of polaris really, its just too fucking convenient. If it didnt exist or it wasnt a loaner for me maybe id fly corsair, its probably my favorite ship overall.

I don't see much Origin in it at all, to be honest. There are a few recognizable details but in general it looks like a cross between Kruger and Aegis to me. (The engines in particular remind me of the Sabre variants.)

It's sick though so I won't complain, at least not about the exterior.
>>
>>2473994
I see, it works on fighters sometimes (underwing pylons etc.), but on ships like corsair it looks akward.

It looks a lot like cross between the 300 series and a m50. The cockpit is definitely m50. I think it fits the origin design decently.

Who gives a fuck. It's a Drake ship; it already looks awkward. Hard points are always going to be better than fixed weapons since allowing for more variety in loadouts without needing to change whole parts of the ship.
>>
So now that IC / ICA are out, how much do you think the price increase for the Railen will be? So the IC standalone was about $450 (I think?) then the cargo got buffed, then release it is now $600.
Railen got a cargo buff plus it's an alien ship. Do you think it's going to be around 400-450$?

Hull B got bumped up from $90 to $280 at 512scu, Railen is $225 at 640scu and the first multi-crew alien ship so lets say $350 due to capacity and then a $100 alien tax. So $450 to $500.

It will 100% be more than $280 because the Hull-B is $280 and has about 20% less cargo space and both are external cargo grids. Then it also catches the alien tax which runs $50-$100. At the lowest I'd say $400 since the C2 is $400 and has 696SCU.

Although if you're smart the price won't really matter since you'd have grabbed a Medical Terrapin > Railen CCU for $5

For as sleek as it looks, it flies like an absolute brick. Still, it has an extremely high SCM afterburn speed, making it good as an interdiction ship chasing down fleeing bigger ships. It is probably also good in group combat, as long as you have some light fighters to keep it from getting fucked by other light fighters, like any other heavy fighter. Pilots WILL be shitting themselves in the m80 though, unless you can add a bucket.

>Contracts broken.
>Quantum Beacons broken.

Oh, but we had to get the patch out. We couldn't possibly delay a sale a few days. That would be a disaster.
>>
>>2479189
Man, I'm trying to figure it out. When patches first launch, shit works, then it just degrades over time. I swear this shit is due to hosting on the cloud rather than a dedicated server location. I bet they get a dev environment with AWS, it has static host locations, low pop, and no active scaling going on.Then when this shit hits production, AWS scaling logic and disperse hosting based on available resources just fucks whatever spaghetti hard-coded magic number backend shit they got going on. If they had dedicated static servers, that shit would probably work, but since their latency and resource availability is unpredictable, we get the current state of the game.

Just curious, anons, are any other complex games with high player numbers hosted on Azure/AWS? Planetside 2 seems more complex than this game from a high-player count, and that game was rock solid. Was Planetside 2 on dedicated server hardware?

Alternatively, corner cutting in the industry has reached the absolute critical mass before imploding. Starting to think this is most likely the case given I work in the software industry.
>>
>>2479229
>Planetside 2 seems more complex than this game from a high-player count, and that game was rock solid.
PS2 was a broken mess for the first two years of its release. Half of the guns were unusable due to graphical glitches or spraying like a blunderbuss. Vanu were a popular faction for vehicle users by simple virtue of the fact that their tanks were less likely to fall through the world.
>>
>>2479249
>only the first 2 years
Sounds like a fucking miracle
>>
>>2478727
It's surprisingly OK in a 1v1 as well. There's probably not much of a chance with equal skilled pilots, but I've seen a good pilot in an M80 shit all over a decent pilot in an Arrow in AC, not something I expected and not something you can really say for any other heavy.
>>
>>2477963
I'm not talking about actually doing combat itself but how it looks. For a game trying to be cinematic as possible and adding unnecessarily long animations to add for muh immersion, the combat looks like dog shit.
>>
>>2477587
Can you spoonfeed me please. Beats fighting over trivial shit.
>>
>>2479367
This is some major cope. No one is winning shit in a heavy fighter that's less manoeuvrable than the guardian and has hp values in the range of medium fighters.
>size 5 guns
>it's fast!
Literally meaningless. The fact people buy ships without even flying them is why this game is such a shit heap.
>>
>>2479543
NDB's are meta.
Shadowmoses group said that ballistics are meta but repeaters and gatlings get deflected by heavy fighters and up.
Attritions are nerfed.
4.8 combat wise is a million times worse than 4.7.
>>
>>2479573
I figured as much, I was just uncertain cause some guy in PU was saying "everyone" is using ballistics in pvp.

But just as you said, i looked at stats and you are fucked with ball on paper.

Nbds, how about s4 and up?
>>
>>2479577
If you can penetrate the armor shredders are the best. But a lot of the times you won't be able to in the wild.
If you're just fighting other lights and mediums shredders are probably the best but in reality you're not going to be running them.
Personally I think deadbolts are kind of good now. They have increased their projectile speed and lowered everything else.
Last patch size 4 was the worst size to use and it was actually better to just put size 3 NDB's in your size 4 spots. This patch I don't know. Probably deadbolts. AD4B's are also very good but you have to hope you don't run into anything your alpha can't penetrate, connies, asgards, corsairs and anything larger.
Size 5 is out of my range so you'll have to look at that yourself.
But every weapon has had a projectile speed rebalance that feels completely schizophrenic.
Avoid attritions. They've been made into low damage high projectile speed guns now. Wtf is that about.
Also the projectile speed caps are way closer now. Size 4 max projectile speed is like 1440. It used to be like 2k. So bare that in mind.
This whole patch is a skip for me.
>>
>>2479598
How about missiles, do you know if they can deplete armor at all.. do they even work... does anyone even care?
>>
>>2479577
Also regarding ballistics. The idea is you go through the shields and damage the hull right? But your ballistic projectiles that go through shields have their damage reduced, up to 25% depending on how many pips the target has in shields.
Now that value is used to see if you are deflected or not. So often the benefit of ballistics being penetrating shields is completely negated since you'll often get straight deflected by the armor.
You're also doing less damage to the shields because a portion of your damage is going to the hull. The lower the enemies shields are, the more damage is going through to the hull and not being absorbed by the shields.
This is only with ballistics mind you.
So sometimes you'll get an enemy down to like 10% shields, will be getting deflected by his hull, and doing like 1 damage a round to his shields.
Obviously if you can pen with deadbolts through shields because of the high alpha it doesn't matter but repeaters and gatlings really suffer.
Often you'd be better off with going energy and doing full shield damage to strip the shields down faster and hit the hull direct.
Some pvp'ers swear by shredders though so I don't know. But I suspect they are mostly in light or medium fighter encounters.
>>2479610
Missiles are ass right now. There is a bug where sometimes they will not lock on. In addition CIG removed the ability for their explosions to damage components making them altogether useless at knock out strikes. The restock cost made it often better not to use them.
This patch since the restock is significantly lower they're worthwhile as a damage close in. You send off as many as you can when you're getting into range then go to guns. They still do heft hull damage but you're eating through the hull without doing any damage to components so you've got to get them to 0 hp with missiles as a closer so I wouldn't even bother. Use them to soften up shields and go in that way.
Oh and don't use anything except EM.
>>
>>2479610
And yes missiles effect armor. Armor is just an extra HP layer over your hull HP.
>>
>>2479617
>>2479630
Thanks anon, the armor hp seems very small, or am i hallucinating. Feels like once you pen, you strip armor off really fast.

Did they change component hp or does penetrations still knock out components super fast?
>>
>>2479656
Crafting changes component hp. But I think it's like 1000 quality means 20% hp increase.
Armor stripping depends on what you're hitting it with. Obviously with ballistics since you're splitting damage between armor and shields you'll strip it slower but you'll be stripping it even through shields as long as you're not deflected.
Every weapon has penetration so you can knock out components easily on nearly every ship if you aim right. Ballistics pen slightly deeper and energy slightly less but it won't matter unless you're fighting sub cap and up.
At least they did in 4.7 I don't know about now.
>>
Avoid Stanton, but if you must, choose contracts that DO NOT have "random site in space" and instead ONLY fixed surface locations or stations. There are cases where nothing spawns but it actually happens 10-20 minutes later, possibly a Stanton overpopulation thing but it happened once in Nyx too, could be a mission specific issue.
May be changes regarding orbits cause it? After a client crash I saw the marker orbiting Stanton at roughly 0.1Gm per 2-3 seconds.
If auto docking doesn't work the first time, don't be in Stanton, but also just try again. The auto snap-in area should be big; you should find out if its working very quickly.
Starmap routing button becomes unclickable after a moment, but selecting planet/moon tends to fix it or you need to quickly hit route after setting.
>>
>>2479229
Anything from Krafton or Pearl Abyss uses Azure for backend, I can tell you that much. Also with Azure you can do IaaS and configure things to never scale until you want it to. Not familiar with AWS but I would think it has similar options. Running servers as PaaS seems like a recipe for disaster. Kubernetes clusters might work.

Naturally the Odin would be the flagship that would be the symbol for this and the whole push for player policing - but it could also sometimes prove useful in combat since some of the player to player negative interactions are done with capital ships.

You get 340k for gilly 8, enemies activate in like 2 minutes, you can incap the polaris easy before they activate. In some ways the corsairs are tougher.

Qv logisrics got massive nerf but you still get 1.4mil for mission and 160-320k for duul + 2x mil A components.

Meanwhile, yes sure move those 200 scu of boxes by hand. Might even get like 200k

The corsair and the connie really are the best solo ships with capacity for crew. I liked the connie more than the corsair initially, but now the corsair is growing on me as the better ship. I was able to do the whole intersec mission set with one solo, so she's a keeper.

Genuine question, is there people here putting more money into in and not using their credits ? Adding on, I will say the connie is better in it's landing versatility compared to the corsair, which seems like it is made more for space and landing pads planetside. The connie can gracefully land on rougher terrain whereas the corsair landing struts are laughable.

If I put new money in, it's usually $14-50 every 3-4 months if something I like comes out and I want to check it out. Shit has added up over years and I can get pretty much anything I want now on store credit alone, but I slowly tailored everything to be LTI and don't do much upgrading anymore.

You shouldn't buy anything in game if you're not interested in it though. For me, this was the dream game I used to talk about wanting to bros back in the ps3/360 days. Just being able to explore systems and land on planets is more than I could've ever asked for. Not to excuse cig for their shitbag practices.
>>
>>2488403

The kraken perseus fleet in above pic is what ive pledged in 2024 and what i will pledge. There are some smaller pledges and melting going on, but i try to avoid giving cig more money. Mostly because i dont need it. But i do also know cig is running out of money, but i dont feel its my responsibility to purchase more.

I did the odin thing as a joke and in a vain attempt to block someone else getting one. I personally think the game - even if cig wasnt so inept - does not need any bigger ships.

As an official drake representative, in honor of defensecon - I must inform you that corsair is not really much of a multicrew ship. You can in theory replace the turretguns with ballistics but either way its just Drake's way of getting past solo-ship limitation laws.

Now connie is an ugly tube, but therein lies its greatest asset. its a simple tube, easy to traverse and has pretty good access. (Corsair has better)

Connie is easier to land, but you still do need to get enough space to get the cargo down. The entry points are slightly more iffy than corsair and the entry points are in worse positions.

BOTH are top tier ships in cargo handling since both drop the cargo low enough on the ground to use tractorbeams effectively.

Corsair has the great drake interior while Connies interior sucks unless you have phoenix. Its both that the ship is so old but also just RSI is the most boring interior.

As a drake guy I can confidently say that drake ships are the best in each category of ship, buy drake now!

Concept ships go up in price when they're released so if you obtain a CCU to them before the price jump, you can essentially ride that price jump to another ship. For example I bought 3 Freelancer DUR > Hull B ccu's for $5 of store credit each since the freelancer is $135 and the Hull B was $140 at the time, I bought a upgrade token for the price difference at the time that would let me upgrade the freelancer to a Hull B no matter what the price ended up becoming since it's a ship-to-ship upgrade token. When the Hull B released it went from $140 > $280 so now I can redeem that $5 token to turn a $135 ship into a $280 ship which I can then upgrade into other more expensive ships.

A future example of this happening is the Galaxy which is currently $380 and is releasing at IAE this year so people who want a Galaxy or a ship more expensive than a Galaxy are buying Valkyrie > Galaxy CCU's since there's currently only a $5 price difference between them. This way when it launches at IAE for $600+ they can knock $200-$250 off the price tag of it or a ship more expensive than it like the Tiburon.

i had a religious experience once in vanilla elite broke as fuck in a viper mk.3 after having spent my last credits, maybe even over the point of a rebuy i don't remember, on spiffy new beam lasers with which to continue eeking out bounties in asteroid belts, during the course of simply supercruising to get back into it. peak flow state. earnestly transcendental and resoundingly spiritual. utterly shattering. never was anything of the sort stumbled upon again and i sit to this day in the wake of it, changed.

point being, accumulation is a meme. currency and accrual is entirely secondary to playing the game in and of itself and developing fluency with its gnarliest and most engrossing systems. in a space sim this is uniformly combat and the prospect thereof. anaconda, federal corvette, fer-de-lance, imperial cutter. none were remotely as fun or situated to walk the glorious tight rope as a lowly viper.

striving is the only meaningful activity. to come to greater fluency and capacity in the course of striving is the only meaningful goal. combat is the only meaningful gamut of play in which one can earnestly and properly strive.

the journey is the destination. there is no other.

Firstly I think I was being autistic and overthinking regarding the industry ships for money making- although the Reclaimer has massive aura. The Crucible designer isn't really part of CIG anymore I think and desu I just know it's going to change a lot once it does come out- I can't rely on CIG to make it cool with a new team.

Secondly you have sold me on being aspirational. Make money- only to buy a combat ship later? the best multiplayer and social events will be combat oriented. This definitely is a combat game first, not sure how I got so lost.

The Nautilus was fully aesthetically concepted by one guy and his vision will likely remain at least aesthetically for when it launches in-game.

I was able to melt my Crucible and use the credits to exactly reach the Nautilus with 10USD left over- I'll use that for a cheap Crusible CCU on Anvil day.

Tomorrow I will complete the Nautilus chain once I can get my hands on an M2 Herc upgrade.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom. New fleet attached.

frankly i find it full blown e-girl twitch streamer rainbow LED bedroom-core but it doesn't faze me in the slightest and i really do wonder what other angle would be more appropriate for an origin ship in the brand's first real foray into an actual combat vessel. they know no different or better by my measure. it's garish but the interior as a whole is pretty damn functional and well-appointed for what it needs to do in the way of housing a little bed and all of the absolutely crucial systems required to keep things running at the barest baseline, all immediately accessible

the latter two are outright multifaceted hero ships comparable to the cobra mk.iii in what they amount to in the setting and in play
>>
>>2493999
The shiv is a side-graded cutlass black, which is a ship size down from the corsair. Shiv/cutlass is a heavy fighter vs corsair being a much bigger ship. The shiv is more manueverable, but the corsair makes up for it with heavier firepower, armor, more components, more cargo, s3 shield etc. Just don't expect to go pvp'ing in it solo.

This most recent patch has been one of the most broken patches released since 3.18, but they dont have the excuse of introducing massive backend technical changes fucking it all up this time.
>>
>>2494513
Depends on what you mean.
But if you consider that QT bugs from 3.22, inventory bugs from 3.22 and interaction bugs from 3.22 all are still there...
>>
Aww man and the Paladin is fugly too
>>
>>2494524
Im not a fan of paladin but it has stairs which is always good and its one of the only reasonably sized ship for reasonable amount of crew and every crewmember can contribute meaningfully.
>>
>>2494529
Now thinking about it its an interesting line of ships that are actually almost entirely pragmatic; hurricane, scorpius, redeemer, paladin, perseus. Am i forgetting something? Seems like love or hate them, they are gameplay wise the most pragmatic ones. Dwarfed perhaps only by the "base" ships; Carrack, Tac, Polaris, Idris..
>>
>>2494529
yea but space copter is cooler
>>
>>2494538
It is. I joined the game 3.22 and i must say that while there are some cool new ships too, the most inspired designs happened before my time. Eg. Reclaimer and Redeemer.
>>
>>2494490
It's ok, got an agility buff at some point in the past year or so which makes it pretty disgusting against fighters if fully manned and they fixed S2 shield generators so you can actually use all of them but multi-crew ships are still practically speaking a waste outside of FUN with friends as having more ships is just outright better.
>>
>>2494625
I'm fine with using ships that are mediocre I use the hawk a lot after all.
>>
>>2494625
They didnt fix multiple shields afaik or then i just never heard of the fix. Recharge time is longer but shield amount is the same, redundant shields dont just pop up after you lose the old shield etc.
Or did they fix all that and i missed it?
>>
Crazy reading someone complain in spectrum how weak perseus is, especially comparing to hammerhead variants.
Nigger please perseus is the strongest multicrew right now and this is likely the moment in time when perseus is strongest it will ever be.
>>
>>2494482
If I remember correctly the asgard's main function is being able to transport heavy ground vehicles. Going off memory it has smaller shields and less armor than connie/corsair, which hands down are the best solo ships in the game.

The budget option for connie/corsair is the constellation Taurus. It has all the concessions you want for solo play, and has the largest cargo since its technically a cargo ship. The Connie and corsair are really close in functionality and stats. Both are able to solo some pretty nasty pve encounters and bring home the loot afterwards. Honestly, the Taurus is significantly better than the corsair when it comes to cargo capacity for loot for missions like vanduul tech smugglers. It has 174 scu cargo space as corsairs 72 scu. Vts mission gives you a lot of ship components and the frozen vanduul pods, which both take a lot of space.

>>2494663
It's been fixed so that you're no longer penalized for having "unpowered" shield pips, so you should always have all 6 shield generators equipped because each one gives you an extra 10k shields with the only "penalty" being that it technically takes you longer to reach max shields because it has more shields to fill. The issue beforehand was that it was reading that you had 5/20 pips powered so it gave you a 75% recharge penalty, now it's fixed so you no longer get that massive penalty.
>>
>>2494871
Since we're on the subjet, is the hawk still underpowered?
>>
>>2494944
The hawk's king component is the fast charging EMP. I think an all laser shield-stripping loadout could really fuck some shit up. You can get it pretty stealthy with the right components as well so that you can swoop down like a hawk, hit your target, and fuck em up. This info is from last patch though, so who knows if it applies now.
>>
>>2494810
They still fit ez and the mission is bugged anyway.
Taurus is the weakest of the connies hp wise.

Depends on what he's looking for I guess. With an M80 and the Tiburon it seems like cargo capability would probably be more of a priority than firepower since he's really lacking that in his lineup, and the Asgard is a pretty solid medium hauler without going all the way to a pure cargo ship that's hopeless in combat or whatever. I guess another thing to consider if that's the case would be the Hermes, which isn't much more than a Taurus and is supposedly an incredible hauler, but sadly it's not available this sale. (Had it been I'd probably turn my RAFT into one and my Asgard into something else.)
>>
How do npcs decide to - for example - use the turrets?
I wonder if anyone has ever tried to drag some of the "friendly" npcs knocked out to ship turrets and revived them - would they use them?
>>
>>2495908
It use to be like this, not sure if it still is: If you board a ship crewed by npcs, you can take out the pilot and steal the ship, then anyone who attacks you will cause the npc's in turrets to shoot at them. This used to be the case with the starfarer rescue missions. You're supposed to be defending them, but you could roll up, EVA in through the catwalk backdoor, and then take out the pilot and fly off with all turrets manned. Some people say it's the same for NPC Hammerheads.
>>
>>2496007
I know, you can do it on vaughn HH.

But im interested if we could make the npc "use" the turret chair like how they use minigun turrets.

CIG has long since demonstrated that increasing the level of funding they have to work with will not increase quality of pace of development. In fact, scaling up the amount of income given to CIG has only resulted in a reduction of the game's planned scope and scale. I think anons would be better served wasting their money on sports gambling than they would giving it to CIG.

Only $300 in, haven't spent a single red cent since 2021.

>>

anon, dynamic server meshing does not and will not exist until we have operational quantum computing at the networking and personal computing levels reach widespread adoption. This is not happning in my own or my kid's lifetime.
>>
>>2496465
You said the same for static server meshing
To be clear, it's a T1 where zones still can't change but adds the ability for a single server can run multiple zones, and for it to run more or less zones based on load while playing.
Instancing requires new zones to be created while playing, these instanced zones should share a server based on load. Hence at least some partial functionality to assign servers to zones is needed here.
Instancing aside, CIG claims this is in testing internally per march report.

autodock is now automatic and triggered when the tube is still extending
also found out you can dock - if you are at the correct spot when it starts extending - it will autodock
>>
>>2497134
>>2497171
Reporting back, I lived a peaceful crimestat free life in game, but somehow got a level 3 crimestat while trying to refuel on pads at a service station in Nyx (after successfully docking, but blacking out anytime I was in pilot seat(even though ship was stationary), thus being unable to do anything other than hold y to get out of the pilot seat or finally hit alt + n to undock, which fixed the black out glitch). Needless to say, I am now in Klescher after evading bounty hunters and getting onto levski to attempt to pay fines. The guards fucked me.

Where the fuck are the fine terminals on levski? Also, lawful bounty hunters, if you're in this thread, I am going to fuck you when I get my pirate crew assembled after I'm done acquiring my prerequisite vehicles and gear.
>>
>>2497425
Docking is broken as fuck, but if you are having issues docking, hit alt + n to initiate a new dock until you are able to successfully dock. Careful though, the Ironclad command module docking bugs are present with any docking, period. I successfully docked in a reclaimer, but if I was in the pilot seat while it was docked, I would black out and be unable to do anything other than exit the seat or hit alt + n to undock.

>>
>>2497688
Never got it to work that way, but similar way - initiate docking, find the spot, undock, move away directly by strafing, initiate docking, strafe back in while still extending.
In fact im pretty sure if you know the correct spot, you can just initiate docking
Seems like its 2 bugs, autodock initiates only when the tube is extending and it looks like the autodocking area might be in the wrong spot

Our npc idris flew against the asteroid and embedded itself there, keeping it safe. No clue if it would have been harder with the idris not stuck.
As it were, could have probably done the mission with less people. We had some guy who had done it alot before and had a trench run hornet setup. He joined late (we already did trench run) but said he has soloed the trenchrun and the interior run before.
Also the loot in the base lootroom and the hangar was not great.

>>
>>2501555
Also, I reckoned the npc idris will not fly to the laser, so i went to it. When it embedded itself on the asteroid - I could just leave the polaris there and go do the ground combat on hull-a.
>>
>>2501181
>much easier than expected
my brother in christ that is like 2 and a half grands worth of ships
>>
>>2503549
1 perseus and 1 trenchrun fighter could probably do the whole thing if the idris gets stuck like it did for us.

As for auec ships - maybe like 3 corsairs and a trenchrunner fighter? maybe less?
I have no clue how bad it can get for the idris but I think the only real threat to the idris are the npc perseus.
>>
How do corvettes work? Aside from the hammerhead thats designed to shoot small shit (supposedly) what are the general use cases for the polaris, perseus and tyburon? I mean practical shit that they can do with some efficiency. Im ignorant about caps.
>>
>>2503946
Tiburon is for dealing with capital class ships like the Polaris and Idris thanks to all its forward facing firepower. Prior to 4.8, the only way you could really deal with one cunt in an Idris was with 2 others.

Perseus excels at dealing with other corvettes and smaller to an extent. Polaris is the smallest capital ship in the game, not really a corvette, so it has capital class components and hull hp. Its existence was to use its interior design mistakes to make the Perseus much better during development and make Polaris owners languish over what could have been...
>>
>>2503977
The idea CIG sold:
>Hammerhead - good against fighters
Tiburon - good against corvettes (and larger)
>Perseus - good against corvettes (and larger)
>Polaris - good against capital ships (and smaller)
>Idris - good against capital ships

The reality as of now:
>Hammerhead - good against nothing
>Tiburon - good against corvettes and large ships (when laser works)
>Perseus - good against everything it can hit, so medium and up. Best capital killer.
>Polaris - good against medium, large, corvette. Torpedoes have not worked since shotgunning was removed.
>Idris - good against medium and up.

Notable is that all these ships are immune to most fighter weapons in current "balance"
>>
>>2504041
Ill add that if you arm hammerhead with deadbolts and have a full crew, its pretty deadly ship to medium and up. But 6 people on hh is worse than 3 man perseus, tiburon, polaris, idris...

That's simply not true, though. The Perseus is worthless solo and yet it's one of the most used big ships in the game, and the only one that people actually bother to crew on a regular basis. What really matters isn't the pilot's firepower, it's whether gunners can actually feel like they're doing something worthwhile, and I bet that a Polaris-sized version of the Perseus concept would be very popular. The Polaris just sucks because torps are trash.
>>

i frankly don't care how worthwhile the perseus' guns are when manned, i could never ask another to sit their ass in one of any gradient whatsoever as to control a ship in full is the very height of everything this game has to offer
give me blades and ai crew or give me death
>>
and only the odin has now but barely breached the line of acceptability as to actually crewing the thing properly given its magnitude on all fronts and the sheer texture of what upwards of forty people acting in concert might well amount to
i frankly doubt the javelin will even warrant it but that remains to be seen
the idris falls far and short as does all beneath
>>
>>2505323
I mean concept as in "the core idea of the ship," not like a "concept ship" in CIG terms, so in other words a Polaris-sized ship that's focused on big gun turrets.

>>2505584
>this does not even touch on the matter of how inhumane it is to ask another to crew a turret btw
Only people who never play multicrew say this shit. People love the Perseus turrets, hell a lot of owners I know beg other people to fly the ship so they can shoot the big guns. My group uses the Perseus all the time because it's such an effective way to grind stuff like Intersec rep and the only friction is over not wanting to use the little S3s, but I generally jump on that myself since I don't mind it.

Polaris torpedo gunner can be pretty fun when the torpedos decide to work.
There are people who are ready to be gunners, but it doesn't make it less boring.
For example on the polaris torpedo - make it TV guided and you suddenly involve the player a lot more.
>>
>>2505613
Oddly and definitely by accident, CIG is actually alleviating the problem by creating so little space combat gameplay.
Being gunner in current real gameplay is mostly just a transition phase before going to do most of the things you do in FPS.
Even TSG has a fps section.

People are fucking PISSED about the Odin it seems. Fucking Legatus, Praetorian, Wing Commanders got screwed over with the selection process, even. Worse, they came up with
>okay, write an essay up to 999 words about what and why
only for people to spam little bullshit, create alts, and posted shit like memes and "i'll never afford it lawl". I'd not be so annoyed if there wasn't a rumor that
>Founder's club badge on Spectrum
>certain skins
will be EXCLUSIVE to those who got them in this wave. That shit is simply not acceptable and crosses FOMO bullshit that in the past CIG avoided which is how people wanted to spend $1K or more on Concierge in the first fucking place. If it was just a matter of anyone who got the ship before it as released in public (ie still not playable - since it may take several events before etc) would be considered a "founder" in terms of the forum badge, and then they made the liveries openly accessible to players who picked them up later on, it wouldn't be so bad.

>>2504665
>>2504645
These are examples it seems. Lots of it on Spectrum too. I'm particularly annoyed considering I took the word of a bunch of oldfag players with high tier concierge who basically said
>Don't worry they said they're taking shit into account. Remember back in the day, I'm sure that anyone with at least Wing Commander status will be automatically entered like it used to be for wave 1 shit and all.

Apparently this exact scenario happened when the Kraken first went up on sale. Same essay requirement, same random selection, and those who didn't get accepted had their submission tickets left open (still to this day) with no automated rejection letter informing them, like the Odin.

had I known this prior, I would have never even bothered sending a ticket.
>>
>>2506271
I do recall that, but as far as I know the Kraken had nothing "exclusive" to that first wave unless I'm forgetting, cosmetic or otherwise. Not to mention that a $1400 ship, as expensive as it is, is not a fucking $5900 ship. Having the Kraken and Idris be the largest user purchased ships for awhile made sense and still kept some degree of sanity, but they've been pushing the envelope with the Javelin (which was supposedly sold exclusively as a unfinished project you have to gear up and equip properly to fly) for a 3K ship, but now the Odin is the fucking Space Battleship Yamato I always wanted, is nearly 6K, and they still haven't figured out a better way to do this shit with respect for long time players, much less how it goes into the balance for the rest of the thing and of course how it will appear to every fucking clickbait "scam" poster out there talking about the new fucking $6K ship PLUS apparently FOMO bullshit and a very flawed selection process. I hope some of this is wrong but its so fucking frustrating.

All i can hope is that if enough potential big spenders make a huge fucking stink about it (and also point to those who are trying to sell Odin accounts on gray market sites) they'll at very least cut all the FOMO shit out and just make the ship available to buy later on as a 'normal' capital ship - something they can still improve in the future.

>>
>>2506271
>>2506296
I was there at the Citizencon where the Kraken was announced and I don't remember anything about an essay for that, it was just a weird wave structure that pissed people off.
>>
>>2506595
The essay and dual fomo is designed to artificially create scarcity.
6000 Odin released now and 6000 later this year, if not 12000. So its another idris - the scarcity just ensures they can reliably get it sold.
The odin sale funded cig for ~2 months.

This is the thing that if nothing else, we should convince them to change. As I recall NO other capital ships that are limited purchase have something like this. They actually did the smart thing with the Idris in that the various custom kits are available to every Idris owner so if you buy K or T, whenever you have the money etc.. you get the special skins included with each. This encourages players who own them to upgrade even down the road for the gear and the skin alike. I don't think Kraken had an exclusive limited time skin and the only thing I'm not sure about is if they are selling the Kraken Privateer Upgrade Kit independently. I'm pretty sure the Javelin doesn't have a very limited skin either.

All of these things are already stupidly limited and hard to get, so making a FOMO thing to the point that you NEVER get the aesthetic/badge etc. is antithetical to getting more people to pledge for the thing. They already don't have enough (or refuse to release enough) , the essay contest was a shitshow apparently, and even the previous limited F5 war means people expect not to get the thing first time etc. So why even bother with this? All it does is create bad faith that people who are willing and able to buy a $5000+ ship will be less likely to do so when it does become available, if I cant get the appearances I want for it because of exclusive bullshit. etc. Stupid all around, plus its bad press, makes players angry and other shit too.

>>2506586
The thing about the Javelin that was supposed to counter it just being larger and better was that it was basically a fucking junk hull you needed a bunch of people to condition. If the Odin is not only much larger, more powerful AND come military grade gear equipped if someone has one you're basically out of luck except against vast numbers, boarding etc. Sure it may be tweaked in time but we'll see...frankly sellingg anyting bigger than Jav is an issue in and of itself.

Your game experience will mostly depend on the server you currently play on. During calm hours with no big events in a remote location you will have a very smooth gameplay. Most things will work as intended. On a full shard during peak hours / events your suffering will have no end. Nothing will work, your ship randomly explodes and yours frames dip into slideshow territory.

Do not spend too much on hardware just for star citizen. I got a radeon 9070, 64gb ram and a 5800x3d cpu. Its a good allround system without breaking the bank.

This one is somewhat reasonable IMO, at least by whale standards. He's got a lot of solo and small group options and nothing that requires a huge crew. He might have a friend group that he plays with, or an org that just hasn't made itself a page on the RSI site as well.

He also might have spent a LOT less than it looks like if he's been doing the CCU thing for a long time. I'm in the same boat and my actual spend, while still ridiculous, is over $2k less than the "value" of the ships at current prices, and I haven't even played the CCU game that deliberately, I know people who have $175 Polarises and shit like that.

Pic is mine but I'm in two orgs and rarely play solo.

Yes. Applicants were informed that if they submitted an application containing fewer than 999 words explaining why they were Chris's greatest goys, they would be considered for the club and have the chance to compete against others in a F5 war for a limited supply of the $5000 ship, which included FOMO skins exclusive to this round. Turns out, the selection was entirely random, with some applicants straight up saying "not gonna buy lol" and still getting an automated acceptance letter, starting off with "After careful consideration."

To add insult to injury, they posted a 1 hour pre-recorded session with all the top guys in charge of making these ships, circlejerking each other off about all the possible gameplay opportunities it brings among other things, saying the exact same spiel they've been giving for 14 years by the same people who don't play or understand how their game works and how it actually plays out with the capital ships flyable right now.

But its literally the only reason why to select who gets to go to f5 war.

>"...All submissions were reviewed and selections were made based on the content of each application alongside a set of internal criteria that we are unable to share in detail. We know that's difficult to hear for backers such as... ...who invested real time and thought into their submission, and we want backers to know that the decision was not a reflection of their standing as a backer or their value to this community."
Also confirmed it will be coming to sale again.

Atop this that in the past shit like this used to grandfather in those who were Concierge of sufficient rank (at minimum anyone at the 5K spend on their account at least should have been in automatically) but they didn't do it this time . Likewise, others (regardless of spend) who had extremely old accounts - l ike those who were backers when this fucking stretch goal was unlocked , or those older like Original Backers or Golden Ticket (ie those who were there BEFORE the Kickstarter) would have been in as well. Again this didn't happen.

All of this atop the F5 war really pisses people off because it all could have been handled better. However the biggest issues so far are
>ONLY those who were A) Invited to the Club, B) managed to buy a ship via Warbond - full cash, get 3 skins - including the Space Battleship Yamato paint job. Unless they change shit, they are ONLY for this drop, so even if you pay $5K later on sorry, no special paint jobs for you.
Even those who made it into the Club, and then tried to buy the ship with some amount of store credit, would only get access to 2 of the 5 skins - I'm unsure if they are included or need to be bought a la carte, but the 3 special skins from the Warbond were NOT available even at a la carte additional purchase.

This is literally one of the worst things that CIG has done in recent memory and a lot of people are pissed . Hopefully there will be enough people complaining on Spectrum that they'll reverse course and realize how badly they shit the bed even among people who can and will pay for such a ship. To say nothing for how this appears to the average player ! This would be a great time for them to confirm that all 5 of the goddamn skins will be available in game through play, just like they do in the Odin page for the ship itself, otherwise this is the kind of whale shit that turns off the players this game NEEDS to keep viable long term

This. When I tell my Org that I pledged an Aurora MR in 2013 for $35 and get Squadron 42 as well and will never spend another dime they lose their minds. Nutters have spent thousands on their CCU Chains and virtual ships. It’s bizarre.

My recommendation for Star Citizen is play during free fly, if you really like it, grab the cheapest game package. Play for a few months and if you still really like it and don't mind spending the same price on it as a modern AAA game go ahead and CCU to a cutlass black which should bring the total price of your starter package to ~$120, the same price as a modern corpo slop AAA game. Cutlass Black lets you experience the vast majority of the game and gives you multiple income options so that you can easily buy a starter mining/salvage ship with ingame currency.

If you really want to fuck around with other ships you can just ask people to borrow one in global, people are more than happy to hand out ships collecting dust in their hangars for free and you can now even store those ships in your hangar to use next session. The only stuff remotely difficult to borrow would be the capital class ships and for those you can just join their crew and man turrets or wander around repairing stuff.

People who play FPS don't tend to like to wait while you get shit stocked, organized, and travel to the destination.

>People who play FPS don't tend to like to wait while you get shit stocked, organized, and travel to the destination.
I'm actually quite excited for the snapshot system for this very reason. You'll (hopefully) just need to spend the time gearing up a ship once and once you snapshot it you'll always be able to revert to that setup so you'll no longer need to constantly restock weapon racks, armor lockers, or vehicles in the cargo hold, it'll instantly do it for you so you can just call it up and shove the whole squad inside and immediately depart.

So, two years ago.
Here and now, the player's list still gets truncated the vast majority of the time. VOIP still doesn't work (and when it does, it's some asshole mouth-breathing, talking on the phone, or playing some foreign TV show in the background for hours on end.
Mobiglass is still a janky, buggy piece of shit (especially with maps and navigation).
I hold little hope of >>2514279 being actually being usable even if it gets implemented in the next two years. Ships are still blowing up on the pad half the time FFS.
>>
>>2514338
The framework exists but it's not currently implemented. The snapshot does log additional ships/vehicles inside of the ship you snapshot but it currently doesn't restore them alongside the ship. It was during PTU snapshotting weapons placed in weapon racks and actually restoring them but I think it was cut out last second before it went to live. No actual hard timeline on it all being made functional though my current guess is within 6 months for some of it and within a year for all of it. With that being said It'll either consistently be improved upon every other patch or it won't be touched and will remain like this for the next 3 years.
>>
>>2514242
>play during free fly
While I conceptually like this idea, the problem is that both
>Free Fly, especially big event related ones like Defense Con
>Right after New Patches drop, like 4.8
are the WORST time for you to get a good bug/server lag etc.. free experience on which to judge the game. I don't object to people playing during Free Fly, but just realize that a lot of the bugs and other concentration of issue you see there or a new patch, may not be anywhere near as heavy when you're playing days, weeks etc.. later.

In theory they dont need wait for any of that, they can in theory login - come onboard and grab gear while on route if it comes to that.
I could set everything up for them - naturally optimally theyd like to do all fps content in the game to some extent so that they hang around, develop connections and play on normal situations. But if push comes to shove, I really just want to drop the ants off on my enemies.
But I might be overthinking it since I am a decent fps player and I know many pvpers are - especially as thats star citizen now.

Planetside 2, csgo, arma 3, calladooty(probably worst aim, but will gladly vanguard and soak up rounds), foxhole. MP in those games is strictly pvp, and I've noticed that my "soft-handed" friends that hate actual challenge avoid those games since you are facing human opponents and need to use both cunning and skill to defeat them. It's kind of sad that SC faces massive backlash from players that refuse to take part in pvp and who actively try to get it removed, just because they are so fucking bad at the game and dont want to actually think about ways to defeat or avoid opponents. They are wow players who just want to safely make number go up. They spend more effort bitching on spectrum/reddit, rather than getting good or understanding that the game is a broken mess and pvp is the only real lossless fun in SC right now. Hell, pvp is honestly the most fun in gaming period in open world matches without artificial constraints(closed in levels)

I was playing arc raiders with some buds when it first dropped, and I was having a blast with all the pvp, but one bud(massive wow player) was getting irritated with me like i was breaking some unsuspected rule when I would attack randos getting a little too friendly with us. He was also getting violently pissed off talking shit about gankers and how they are losers when we would get completely taken out. I was a little shocked hearing it from an actual person I knew, but it all suddenly made sense. Pve carebears are our short, bald, effeminate bros who can't get no pussy.

For all my pvp chads, you are the real kings. Fuck all these limp wrist wusses.
>>
>>2515377
I think the arc raiders system is interesting, but its problematic as a pvp game can never truly sustain itself as pve game.
As for views on pvp vs pve in SC or in geneal, I think the competition about it is retarded. I think the pvevp landscape is the perfect one - but I too do know a lot of people (including the guy who got me to SC) who just simply refuses to participate in anything with pvp - thats why he doesnt really play SC. Which is a real fucking shame as I, a pvevp player - can easily DECIDE what to do. I can easily KNOW when I am going to be risk of pvp, in fact I can easily even know HOW LIKELY a pvp encounter will be.
Fucking simply by playing and not crying about it.

The solution is obvious though, the bobs worries should be taken care by player policing (I loved being a cop in APB). But none of the police orgs are active or really pvp.
The only real way to ENFORCE player policing is by creating factions that you have to choose from the get go, then you automatically have people defending the bobs by virtue of tribalism and by pvp playerbase split.
I get that its not always the player freedom people would want, but I guarantee you it fixes the issue or at least alleviates it in every single game that has it and it would fix in all games that doesnt.
Oldschool mmo's like Rising Forces Online had 3 factions actively pvp:ing every single day, yet there was room for pve people and industrial players since the reward from the pvp was industrial - as an example.
>>
>>2515418
Nice read. Pvp in star citizen is a choice, really. I like both play styles, but you have to deliberately put yourself in a bad position to get ganked.
>>
>>2515557
And if you have 2 braincells you can make the chance of getting ganked pretty much 0.
I havent seen any Nyx pirates lately, but originally when they camped Gateways -> Levski routes, just fucking do a dog leg jump its not that hard god damn it.

The current CS system is dumb as fuck and Pyro is by far the most peaceful system for 3 reasons, 1. Sheep dont usually go there so wolves wont either, 2. Rule of the jungle, most people expect a fight if you interfere with people there. 3. Its big, pvp is mostly on CZ & exech where you go to actively participate.
Stanton? Someone griefing you? Dare to do something against them? CS - on to prison you go.
>>
>>2515620
*4 reasons
4. All the new content is in Nyx or Stanton and Pyro content mostly does not work.

This is something that bothered me during their round table talk.
Even if you were one of those people that managed to beat the F5 race, the Odin doesn't offer you anything substantial from a gameplay perspective. It does all of the things any other org ship can do.
You're not getting a better gameplay experience by getting a battlecruiser. You're getting a large hangar with some big guns and thick armor attached to it. So why would you unironically get mad at missing the opportunity to waste $5000 on it? Let alone the skins?

Why would a player who is solely interested in FPS play Star Citizen over COD, BF, Planetside, CS, or all the extraction/hero/class shooters?
What would be the draw?

>>2517082
>Does this game have a beginning, middle and end yet?
It plays like an early alpha, but what it actually is is "Stage 4 Perma-Alpha"; a game that would never make it past alpha until it has to be dropped due to finances, at which point life support is pulled and the game is solemnly labeled "complete" even as it lies upon its deathbed.
>>
>>2517609
>What would be the draw?
I asked AI for its opinnion earlier and it said something along these lines:
1. Being a payload dropped in to action some how interests them
2. Tarkov players apparently get bored waiting for new content and are used to jank

>>2517434
I heard some "pvp-meta" shit sourced to like shadowmoses - "all ballistics" etc. Took a while for me to realize these people play AC so its not very applicable to PU.
>>
>>2517609
>planetside, battlefield
if a pvp event like jumptown were instanced, it ran well, it'd be that
combine space/ground vehicles, no map boundaries, meaningful stakes, useful non-combatant gameplay, and a decent player cap
iirc last time we had JT it was on 50 player servers

>cod, cs, hero shooter
SC is explicitly not for these people, this has been said since 2012
>>
>>2517922
AI reasoned Tarkov and Arma are the best games to try and get boarders from.
>>
>>2518032
Specificly due to jank and the desire to be a tactical unit. (like a squad dropped to enemy ship or positions to take them out)
>>
>>2517671
SM trains in both AC and PU. They have an extensive research group that tests out weapons/shields/components to figure out what is best in PU, though I doubt they release their patch determined meta builds for PU to public. I also wouldn't be surprised if they did release meta to public just to make competition better so they can have tougher opponents. Their entire spiel is being the best pvp org, and they likely are.
>>
>>2518113
I dont doubt they are best pvp org or know about what the best setup is (for ac).

PU pvp "meta" is slighly skewed however, you dont get ammo and repairs by just flying through it, there are no fair matchups and the performance is between ass and wet fart.
For example saying that all-deadbolt setup is good in pu is fair, since you can punch up. But "all ballistics", including shredders for example is a little misleading.
FF and server performance seemed to curb pvp enthusiasts in pu anyway.

I wish they'd just say all ships have this and make paints a non-physical account thing like blueprints so you can apply them at any time and don't have to pay out the ass to claim an otherwise stock ship just to get the paint back.
>>
>>2523222
>don't have to pay out the ass to claim an otherwise stock ship just to get the paint back.
paints bought via the store can be reclaimed instantly for free by using the freight terminal in your home location. It can also be used to reclaim ship modules such as the Idris Laser, Super Hornet ballistic turret, apollo/retaliator modules.
>>
>>2523261
That's still shitty, though, since it takes so long to get back to your home location from a lot of places. I guess the other big piece of the puzzle is the stupidity of charging you for stock loadout stuff, it wouldn't be a big deal if you ONLY had to pay for mods/upgrades.
>>
>>2523454
While it's par for the course that CIG launches an under-baked barely functioning new system this one has been particularly disastrous. It has outright obsoleted the entirety of ship weapon/component scavenging, caused massive performance issues by making it impossible to remove ships via self-destruct, made all those leftover ships at a bunker worthless because they're bricked, and made certain ships an absolute pain in the ass to recall because you need to reclaim their modules, reclaim the ship, reclaim the paint, and then put the modules back into the ship.
>>
>>2525375
For what it's worth I've managed to get salvaged weapons to work for my own use. Couldn't send them down an elevator but I swapped with a tractor beam and then stored and saved the loadout, and they've properly persisted through multiple claims. No selling anymore since the elevator tags them as stolen though, unless maybe you can do it at Grim or wherever else takes stolen cargo.

Ok Boss I will stop spending.

I spent 850 total since 2015, in about 3 splurges.
Starter pack initially. In 2019 I upgraded about 100usd worth. then in 2021 I spent another 250 and the rest more recently.

What should I do now boss ? Sell my RSI account ? or just enjoy what I have.

Should I commit to that business Idea I had ? spend and invest in the products that I want to sell ?

if you include my flight sticks and pedals then it's like 1200 USD- you got me there.

The amount of CIG sympathizers in Global chat ingame is embarassing. People really defend the bugs in this game. Even bringing up the status of the Ironclad doesn't phase them.
>>
Pretty solid loadout for pve on m80 is deadbolt V's and M6A's. Was able to solo up to gilly 7 and cheese the hammerhead at the end. I initially tried the stock repeaters, but got hard locked at the connie since the repeaters don't damage it. so I use laser cannons to strip shield and laser cannons + deadbolts when shield is stripped.
>>
>>2530918
Not him, but I'm a little over twice the spend of that other anon. I've never gone into debt for SC (in fact the only debt I have right now is a mostly paid off car loan) and the most I've ever spent in one go was about $350 when I was bored out of my mind during COVID and the government gave me free money. Everything else has just been incremental, $10 here and $25 there for discounted CCUs to make my store credit go further. I also haven't spent more than about $100 in a single year since 2021.
>>
>>2531298
Just full deadbolts anon, its worth it.
>>
CIG is losing its biggest content creators support.
Spectrum is aflame.
First Spacetomatogaming now Foxyloxy
>>
>>2531664
What happened? im out of the loop

Just 4.8 complaints ?

Spectrum is often pretty moany but recently I think it is quite a bit worse... like everything is negative on there right now.

They really need to get SQ42 out, if it really is supposedly ready they can't keep waiting for the perfect moment to release. They need to announce it at gamescom. and release in 2026.

It would rekindle hope and finally give the people something. I have always been pretty open minded about SC and acknowledge all its weirdness is kinda necessary for such an ambitious project but some things don't make sense, especially since CIG started behaving more corporate and that made sense but this also makes recent failures almost unforgivable.

SC progress is fine, its slow and will remain so, it is slowly coming together albiet with plenty of holes but I have faith.

Now SQ42 is just Chris Larping as a Big shot hollywood director and I hope its a fun COD campaign but serisouly this needs to come out soon. Chris- prove us wrong.

I understand that after SQ42 comes out the following 2 episodes will need to follow suit with relative haste, because nowadays who cares basically. It's gotta be good enough to want 2 more, because all our crowdfunding it basically going towards SQ42 and pretty much nobody asked for it except Chris.

is SQ42 is successful it will bring so much to SC so I hope it does well. I am looking forward to it, but Chris can't make it become mainstream like GTA, it's like he's trying to make it the biggest and bestest thing... like its a niche- accept it and give it to the only people who want it.

Silly billy.
>>
>>2531691
Spacetomato is showing overall lack of quality in SC and naturally 4.8 in comparison to the funding still rolling forward.
Foxyloxy took it personally that he's been locked out of 4.8 on his main account and CIG has no tools to fix the accounts. But also circles around to showing that its not just 4.8 but a much longer problem at cig.
AFAIK both are long time supporters and generally have been supportive of CIG in the past, so its obviously 4.8 thats their main gripe.
But in all honesty they cant be blind to the problems and more importantly the trend cig is setting, they might be realizing that the rumors of cig money/mismanagement troubles are not just rumors.

I get the hobby thing...but the game barely works. Sure if you have disposable income you can throw money at anything but I want to know what compells a man to give money to a company that releases a ship for 650 dollars and it's broken. It was released on one of the most important event of the year too. What makes you want to support this company given its history of consistently doing the bare minimum. What keeps you from coming back? Do you ever get frustrated or tell yourself that I won't give them money until things improve? I mean this in the most respectable way. I love space games and I tried the free fly. I got to explore some random player big ship, I think it was called Polaris and the one with a cool claw that can salvage.
But when playing it, the missions felt generic and the lack of social tools for an mmo was a huge let down. I want the game to succeed but I'm confused because what I played does not feel 1billion dollars and 10+ of game development.
>>
>>2531727
maybe his successor can go groveling on his knees to beg back all the talented leads chris chased off over the years, leaving half finished plans to be replaced by shit like master modes
>>
>>2531772
It's probably going to be the people in charge right now who were responsible for master modes.
CR only cares about squadron. I think everyone expected he'd fuck off when his movie game was done.
SC was just to get money out the saps to fund Gillian Anderson and Mark Hamil.
>>
>>2531731
Better without a shadow of a doubt.
Especially as SQ42 is proven as a midling success at best, all eyes will be on PU.

The real question is if the whales will keep faith in the project after their messiah is gone.
Also there is a real problem that the game is built like a house of cards.

If they had a YoshiP style management who admits faults and promises to fix them, there would be hope. But people like that are rare and certainly no-one in management at CIG.
>>
>>2517609
I don't think it's finances that will kill it, rather the devs and backers dying of old age.
>>
>>2531827
Oh and.
YoshiP actually plays his fucking games.
>>
>>2531727
I've always believed that SQ is all that CR really cares about and the PU is just a way to fund it, so I wouldn't be shocked. The only thing that makes me question it is that there are supposed to be SQ42 sequels but maybe after taking 15 years to make one game they're gonna give up on that and just focus on the cash cow.
>>
>>2531913
CR is too old, he probably realized that at this shit development pace (which he probably doesn't understand he is the cause of) - he wont live long enough to make Episode 2
>>
>>2531913
>>2531827
>>2531727
I do believe that CR is passionate enough where he might want to work until he absolutely can't anymore.

I do like him, so I would be dissapointed if he stepped down but I also wouldn't be surprised.

I would however like to be surprised soon. The Odin (as much as it is hated) was kinda peak and I was surprised how cool it was. Logistics... yeah idk - hopefully it gets figured out. All it needs really are an org and server meshing.

CR has also had things to say during citCons and I think he does like SC but SQ42 is his Hollywood Fantasy LOL- It sounds so stupid.

Just like how Notch couldn't break into the elite Celebrity world in LA after selling minecraft CR, will not get SQ42 noticed by Hollywood or whatever he's trying to do. It's still a computer game afterall.

Computer games are not "cool". at least not cool to anyone but nerds.

I personally really want SQ42 to come out in 2026 & for Chris to stay on personally. His vision is still good.

Like modern RSI ships have way too much greeble and the m80 is hardly origin. I worry that we are losing the vision. and if CR leaves it will probably become much more lame in ways.

I don't want my $1000 to be a waste too. lol

>>
>>2531767
>Do you ever get frustrated or tell yourself that I won't give them money until things improve?
Not him but I did this. I haven't 100% stopped but I've averaged $25-50 a year tops since 2020 (and literally nothing last year), with the only exception being a Citizencon ticket in 2023 because it was local to me and I wanted to hang out with people I'd known online for years. That said, it's easy not to spend money once you've already got a few grand worth of store credit and no real interest in huge capital ships. IDK if I would've been able to stick with if I wasn't already in that position by the time I cut back.

>What makes you want to support this company given its history of consistently doing the bare minimum. What keeps you coming back?
The biggest answer is "community." I've got a great small org and a bunch of friends outside of it, and as an aging millennial sci-fi nerd there's really no other game that so squarely matches my demographic. Beyond that, there's really just nothing else like it, and CIG frustratingly manages to make JUST enough progress and have just enough good patches that I can't bring myself to give up despite all of the bad times.
>>
>>2531966
>>2531980
Yeah that's true, it's not like his job requires a lot of physical ability or anything. My dad was in a somewhat comparable job (art director in the movie/TV industry) and the only reason he retired last year at 78 is that the industry imploded and he hasn't gotten any job offers.

yup

>aging millennial sci-fi nerd

I'm 26, I have been looking for an org but have not found one the aligns. Everyone I meet is in their 30s. do you know many people around my age?

I feel there aren't many around my age.

most of my org are 20-somethings. Dunno why, maybe they are more open to joining new orgs?
I'm 40 and feel 60.
>>
>>2532030
Not in my org, but there are a lot of 20-somethings in the various discords. Unfortunately that also means dealing with the usual discord kind of people though, I have to spend a lot of time holding my (proverbial) tongue on them. Ironically my org actually spawned out of one of those discords but we're the normal guys who got pushed out.

This is actually one of my biggest problems. I hate discord. Where are the teamspeak and IRC Orgs? Discord has me so doomerish on online gaming as a whole. electron based spyware should not be required to talk to people. so gay.

>>2532118
I know it looks like that- like a lot. but it would just make Chris super lame if it were true. Unless there's something else going on like a health crisis or whatever- this would just be super lame.

So I refuse to fully give into that idea, I tell myself that whilst it's not provably untrue, the truth wouldn't be so simple and that his vision for SC is just still a while away.

So SQ42 1,2&3 are achievable now and SC 1.0 is still like a decade away.

In SC lore, the verse will reach the year 3000 when CR turns 102 years old. I think he plans to be around for that and that he is thinking long term for the game. but 1.0 is still like a decade away. That's what I think. I think he'll work for at least another decade. within these next 7 years I expect all 3 episodes of SQ42. & only in the 2030s will the whole team shift to SC.

Copium or whatever- it makes sense to me.

yeah. $300 in, 2012 KS backer.

>or are you guys haters?
yeah. Chris Roberts has made so many stupid decisions and chased away so much high level talent only to replace them with whatever new grad or H1B was available that immediately went on to cock things up with their own poorly thought out ideas. I have seen the potential of this game shimmer and be squandered. that said I've played more of it since the 'year of stability' than at any point prior and we actually get regular groups together for raid type content. but the sacrifices that have been made over the years have all been totally unnecessary and no sacrifices have been made where there really need to be, like fucking server capacity for the sake of stability.
>>
>>2532378
I got in the game 3.22 so fairly new backer.
Who brought me to the game tried to warn me but was a bit too vague about it so I did buy in to the hype.
I've spent about 2000€ and I do regularly play.
Enjoying the game is quite hard but I try. I didn't play a lot in 4.6, 4.7 due to having too much money to have any meaningful things to do.
Now I'm kinda hoping id get a good excuse not to play since SC sessions end up being massive waste of time and barely enjoyable.
So few things work at all and everything is a string of workarounds.
>>
>>2532489
I'll add that SC being in a sorry state is nothing compared to SQ42. I never cared about SQ42 to begin with, now that i see what our money has been wasted on... it makes me a bit sad.

Additionally I am in the game industry and CIG is interesting to see since they operate like no other game studio - but at the same time it infuriates me since literally any other studio would have made a better game.

Way too much. I still play as much as I can and have a small but active org, I was just out mining with them on Friday evening.
I don't really think questioning CR's motives or believing that he might retire soon makes me a doomer, and actually I think CIG might be better off without him micromanaging everything and directing all the focus to SQ42. I think I'm just realistic about the situation at CIG but I'm also cautiously hopeful for how things will go after SQ comes out.

kek too bad it's so far off, they could've waited to release the battlecruiser in the ingame year 3000 to troll the fuck out of Derek otherwise.

Side note but I've always thought the game year was kinda stupid, the tech doesn't feel anywhere near 1000 years in the future level. 3-400 years tops would make way more sense. What's also funny is that one of the only things that DOES seem like it'd take many centuries - ArcCorp, where a city has taken over a whole planet and must have untold billions if not trillions of inhabitants - canonically is a very recent thing.

Anybody got any info on what what weapons can damage what ship sizes? For instance, I know s5 laser repeaters are insufficient to take down a connie. Or at least the ones I tested with. Is there a comprehensive guide on what to equip if you have, say, 2-3 fighters with s3's and you want to disable a connie?
>>
>>2534656
The only reasonable way to see it is spviewer.
But in general cannons can and repeaters wont. Everyone is running deadbolts since cig cant balance to save their life
>>
>>2534661
Do you think s3 distortions would be capable of felling something like a connie, c2, or caterpillar? I'm not really sure how distortion penetration works, but I though it ignored armor and hit in a radius from contact point

Consider that your picrel anon knows about reddit spacing, thus making them a reddit user, thus their opinion must be discarded at this point. Basically, even caring about this is reddit-tier over socialized geisha.

>t. 07 lurker of boards and dramatica
>>
>>2534667
Yes, distortion doesn't seem to require very big size guns.
However remember that distortion required shields to be down (on the sector you are shooting)
>>
>>2534722
Thx, I knew shields had to be down. The biggest problem for disabling a ship seems to be getting the shields down before it fucks off. I'm guessing a single mantis would never be able to pirate something like a connie solo. Speaking of.. would it be better to keep stock cannons on a mantis or to load her down with distortions if relying on other craft for stripping shields? I'm kinda thinking the stock laser cannons might be best for the mantis and let other craft handle distortions.
>>
>>2534712
I'm one of the people using "reddit" spacing and sometimes its looks like shit so in that context I understand. But I've never been to Reddit - not to mention I've been in the thread for years at this point and at 4chan I don't really remember, since /b/ was added?
>>
>>2534732
I really don't think Solo mantis will ever be a good choice.
I know you'd like to be antisocial but then I would explore Cutlass Blue or the EMP fighter - both of which I dont know much about, maybe some other anon does.
>>
>>2534741
Ok I checked them quickly - and naturally for Cutty blue and EMP ships you will need to catch your prey at poi or buying/selling at outposts.
So you cant pull them out of QT naturally.

One thing Im thinking you could do is just evade, keep the people at mantis max range - then they cant fight back or do anything. Blackmail them, make them commit seppuku
>>
>>2534741
I'm looking to work in a group. Right now, I'm thinking at minimum, you need 3 craft for boarding. 1 mantis to pull ships out of QT then quantum dampen, 1 fighter with laser/distortions, 1 ship with cargo capacity to haul loot. It would probably be better to have 1 additional fighter with pvp metal build, maybe all deadbolts in case anything shows up that could put up a fight

Right now, I'm thinking ideal lineup for a small group composition would be: Corsair with Fury in back, Mantis, and M80/Guardian, with an optional gladius or similar fighter for escort. On the mantis, do you know if you have the quantum dampener or snare engaged, does it stay on if you get out of the pilot seat? Could you hypothetically have two mantis ships present, one with the snare and one with the dampener on, with no pilots?
>>
>>2534772
The Mantis wont stay on without pilot
The thinking is sort of solid, but what are your prime targets going to be? Bobs don't need this many and if you run in to me or another capitalfag like me, you will need more.
>>
>>2534789
Also If I were to do it, I would make it a bit fun. Its very hard to make piracy profitable in the game right now (essentially only trade routes are profitable but then you have to do what traders do and stalk sctradetools, and even then its practically nobody doing it) - but you can always make it fun. Demand ransom, scan bobs and if they dont have anything - let them go with a warning.
>>
>>2534789
Mostly just doing it for fun, but my plan is to target medium/large freighters and couriers transporting gear. I'll probably have more than three players. I'll have everyone scatter if something we can't handle shows up, maybe have the mantis stay behind and hold it back until at least the loot ship escapes.

Current thoughts for active heist:
Loot Cargo Vessel will remain overlook after QT snare traps ship and goes down, constant radar pings afterwards while relaying info about battlefield to other pilots. Mantis fighter will switch to dampener and immediately engage target ship, along with additional fighters. After disabling the ship, fighters/mantis will blast open cargo/dock doors. Fighter pilots and mantis pilot will board and seize control of ship. Cargo ship will pull up and take enemy cargo. Cargo ship will egress and boarders will repair ship, heal enemy player, and fuck off. If they log or choose to fight back after that, we destroy the ship and relocate.
>>
>>2534795
Auroras/mustangs/avengers/etc always get the free pass, but I agree, if it's obvious they got nothin, let em go.
>>
>>2534804
Well-as we probably discussed earlier, I am not a pirate so I'm not an expect on the matter, but as pvevp player Id say your best bet could be one of these:
1. sctradetools check what route is most profitable and camp that.
2. keep a special eye out for any semi-exploits, they always get swarmed by people. Often related to events.
3. Camp pyro / stanton gateway, I recommend Pyro. Try to position yourself in a way to bubble out as large angle as possible. You are looking to intercept people with Vanduul corpses- most of them are exploiters and all of them are veteran SC players so no mercy.

As for setup:
Mantis
Obvious, stop the target - stay out of harms way.

Corsair with deadbolts / Perseus / Polaris
You will inevitably catch a big fish and sometimes might want to fight them to get their juicy innards. Some people (including me) use capships for sensitive cargo. You can try distortion on them but dont forget that well placed deadbolt shots to reactor will disable the ship completely.

M80 / Buccaneer / Hawk
You need something that can chase down faster targets, especially to save mantis from fighters.

You can switch ships and loadouts to distortion etc. if you want to board more but the basics are something along these lines I reckon.
>>
>>2534884
One thing I forgot to mention in 3. You CAN bubble Levski->Pyro gateway but thats not the intention. Vanduul corpses will be coming from different directions.
>>
>>2534884
To practise the reactor piercing, you can do for example Gillys 8 with a full deadbolt corsair or whatever your setup has. Shield Gen is a cylinder in middle rear of Polaris and the Reactor is a flat pizza on the bottom of the Polaris next to shield gen.
Similarly I think you can get Idris on some intersec missions or can ask someone ingame to lend one for training.
Right now the most powerful ships in the game are M80 and Perseus for solo and multicrew respectively simly cause they can shoot their way to reactors and other components.
We even accidentally headshotted a pilot from one ship.

>>
>>2534656
If you go to Erkul you can click "Deflection Check" (on the right, where it shows the ship's armor) and it'll show you what will and won't penetrate at a given armor health. The basic rule though is that S3 and up cannons will penetrate anything short of a cap ship, while repeaters won't touch anything bigger than a heavy fighter.

I do CAD and have a printer and I was thinking of modeling up some diorama pieces and putting them online. The ships themselves are tough though, those require a totally different kind of 3D modeling and CIG have really clamped down on sharing models, they've somehow even managed to keep them off Bambu Studio where there's all kinds of other copyrighted stuff like Star Wars and Warhammer.
