>>2518494>Olympia OPI'll allow it
>>2518502To celebrate her upcoming buffs. *inhales copium*
Holy DI-E
Can't wait for another cursed Olympia skin next week
>we're going to get guestslop before Elliana or Sylvanos get addedHate it here
>>2518505>yeah bro she's totally getting buffs>they need to promote her new skin>I swear bro
>>2519618If you increase the contrast, it's obvious that the Orcane skin is a pool inflatable (he has a handle near his fin, and a mouthpiece for blowing into his blowhole), but I have a hard time telling what the Olympia skin is. I'm going to assume it's some sort of Aquaman skin. The remaining skin is likely Slade's summer skin from the concept art: >>2517633
>>2518705I don't like floorhug or cc. Although I guess you have to play the game in the first place to even know the mechanics exist the way they do
uh oh
>>2522959They did this for Combo Devils too, I think
>>2524142>the coolerI hope this means we're getting a summer skin for Kragg and this is his rock
>stupid sexy Slade skin confirmedI look forward to not playing Olympia for all of June, because it's a horrifically un-fun MU for her
This is your unranked opponent for the evening, say something nice about they/them
>>2522959>only some icons and emotesThank god it's not a character (yet). They wouldn't give this away if Mina was planned as a character in 2026
>>2524784Nice ping
Wrastor is such a fucking brainless masher character, it's unreal. Anyone who actually tries to play neutral with him dies, but if you just hold forward and mash he's the easiest character in the game.
>playing randoms in unranked against a guy who mains Galvan>game gives me Olympia (my main), gives him Galvan>it's a struggle, but I beat him>game gives my Forsburn (my secondary), gives him Galvan again>it's easier than Olympia, even though I think the Forsburn:Galvan MU is worse>game gives me Clairen, gives him Galvan AGAIN>easily 2-stock him without breaking a sweat despite having no idea what I'm doingIs the Clairen:Galvan MU that free, or did the game line up this statistical improbability to tell me to stop playing Olympia?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYCAN8U37goLate, but good video
>>2531450This video is so outdated my nigga.
>>2530841EVERY matchup is free for Clairen.
Buffs soon... trust...
>>2534822You'll get nothing, and you'll like it. You'll watch Sandstorm's Galvan-only Evo run. You'll watch as people continue to call La Reina an "honest low tier" while she DI traps people to death at 40% with uair, has pre-nerf Olympia dtilt, but better, and does 30-second gymnastics routines offstage for fun - and claim that Olympia deserves to be nerfed because she was top tier a year ago.All Olympia players have is the company of Maypul players in the cuck shed.
>>2534942>All Olympia players have is the company of Maypul players in the cuck shed.Fuck, hurts a lot.
>is perfectly balanced in your path
>tfw playing Olympia dittoswww.youtube.com/watch?v=Gqw1FI1hfJA
>>2537594That would imply 2 people still play Oly.
Oh, right. I don't know why I expected balance changes, Evo is in 3 weeks.>events reduced to every 3 monthsDamned if you do, damned if you don't. People were complaining that there was too much of an emphasis on cosmetics, and they'll complain that events aren't as frequent. I still like cosmetics, so I hope that this doesn't affect the mid-month ones.
Some wrote a Clairen manifesto: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cz3eXzE5dWzNZ2I2BiI3XuBppS6W2SfND35OQqrqgjQ
>>2539815>events reduced to every 3 monthsI wonder if this is because console release soon
>>2539815It's nice that they loaded them up with extra stuff, and it's a nice opportunity to give new colors to old skins. But what happens if you already bought the skins that are now free? Does it refund your bucks?
>>2539937NO REFUNDS!
>>2539838Spam it to dan
>>2539838They posted it to Nolt, spam updoots so Dan might finally be forced to acknowledge Clairenhttps://rivals-of-aether-ii-patch-160.nolt.io/738
>>2539815They also reduced the Bucks in the pass, from 250 per month to 600 per three months, a 20% loss.I'm mostly disappointed that, even after cutting the number of event tracks per year to a quarter of what it was, they're double dipping on a DLC character getting a free skin when some characters, including Fleet and Clairen, don't have one. Fleet and Clairen already have a Pool Party skin but we could have gotten, I dunno, Submarine Galvan or something
>>2540518Yeah, I only recently noticed that Clairen doesn't have a free skin. I don't really mind, although I do think they should equalize the distribution of free skins, because the cosmetic system is still more robust and consumer-friendly that other games in the genre. I haven't launched SF6 in a year because DLC characters aren't free, let alone cosmetics. My concern is that I don't want event skins to be reduced to seasonal themes. There's a few outstanding "themes" that are much more interesting than the holiday slop, and I'm worried we're not going to get those now.
Speaking of skins, this patch's obligatory shop-related bug is that Lovers skins are mixed in with the summer event skins under the featured tab. If you want Zetterburn, Clairen, Olympia, or Fleet, they're all available for coins right now.
Someone needs to tell the Orcane players that "neutral" is not doing 50 different moves behind puddle and then flying across the stage
>>2541300The Lovers skins have been purchasable with coins for a while, and they weren't delisted in May either since I bought Lovers Fleet and Night Owl Fleet with coins at the same time
Okay, yeah, I take it back. Olympia is objectively the worst character in the game right now. They took one of the only characters that could actually approach and neutered her into a bait-and-punish character with NONE of the tools that make that archetype function. Her only saving graces are gem and down special, and the former is on a cooldown and loses to basic counterplay (parry, floorhug, mashing, DI) while the latter only works on retards.>dtilt went from one of the best moves in the game to one of the worst, constantly whiffs when you're close enough to tickle your opponent's taint>nair went from one of her best approaching / neutral options to a joke move that opponents fall out of constantly>ftilt is useless>utilt and uair are still decent, but they're only two decent moves>fair and dair are slow and get beaten by shield>literally every button she presses on shield is beaten by buffered shieldgrab except perfectly spaced ftilt (which is beaten by wavedash OoS) and fair>has no pokes>has no neutral tools except a projectile with a cooldown>effectively has no strong attacks, every single one has an unusable risk:reward ratio except ustrong, which is weak as shitLiterally all this character can do now is spam full hop bair while you pray that the opponent is retarded enough to not know to shield the jab / utilt follow-up... and grab, which every character can do. She serves no fucking purpose.
>>2541639Retard here, how do I stop getting schmixed by her down-specialShe keeps using it like an airdash
>>2541666It doesn't actually do anything except punish you for over-respecting it. There's only two options if she cancels it in the air: either she dashes in, or she dashes out. If she dashes in, note the timing with which she does it and try to intercept the dash with a noncommittal anti-air or aerial if she does it again. Using FADC to approach does nothing to mitigate how susceptible she is to being stuffed when approaching; even if you don't stuff her approach clean, you'll trade. If she trades, she's fucked: every other character's hitboxes beat her nair (too small) and fair (too slow), and she's forced to fall to the ground before she can do anything else. If you trade, mash your best button. If she dashes out, literally nothing happens. Maybe she'll gem toss. If she's using it as an air dash to extend advantage, there's really nothing you can do except DI better to begin with or throw out an attack if you think it'll beat her extension. It's the same shit for grounded FADC: if you think she's going to dash in, delay your attack so you're hitting her during the dash. I think it's most effective if you use it as a parry (like Yoshi's double jump parry) or to extend the threat range of dash attack against passive opponents. If it's an Olympia that likes to fish for shield breaks, never roll against grounded down special, especially if they've demonstrated that they can FADC on reaction. Just jump away or, better, grab her.Multi-hits also shut it down in the air or on the ground.
>>2541639>ftilt is uselessNot true, it's now her most consistent kill option, since her strongs are all unusable. Of course, she has to get her opponent to 170+ for it to actually kill, or far more if they're a heavy.
>>2541810I feel like it's only usable if you catch your opponent jumping with jab. Jab doesn't consistently confirm into it if they're grounded, and the only other times I use it are as a 2-frame at the ledge, or out of wavedash / FADC (which usually get punished). I went to get check its frame data on Dragdown and lmao @ the description>For a safer poke, Olympia prefers Down Tilt in most situations. >dtilt>poke
Who's the most free character in the game if I don't want to play Clairen? I'm not THAT much of a massive faggot.
>>2545240I'd probably say Zetterburn. His gimmick is easy to understand, and basically just rewards you for playing the way you already should be. He's loaded top to bottom with easy combos, and is unlikely to ever see a nerf.
>>2545240Pick La Reina and learn how to kill at 45% with UAir chains
>>2547146That's 100% going to get patched at some point.
>male characters have full body models, albeit with black voids to texture them out>females have their geometry culled, Maypul the obvious exceptionThey know what the Internet would do if they were fully modeled I guess, though people made bottomless Absa even without this model data
>>2550445dont cherry pick. Also base models for every character exists if you look for it.
>>2551078>base models for every character exists if you look for itGuess I haven't looked nearly hard enough, I appreciate being correctedMaybe it's because I was looking through the modkit that I didn't find these
>>2551183Those are not originals but community made. Someone said that during playtests they had full base models in files, but I think he was full of shit. Maybe ill check my old leaked version.
>>2551240>Those are not originals but community made.Fuck, should have known from the fact that Clairen has breasts
>>2551240>Those are not originals but community made. This game has a community?
>>2551078So much stored milk
>>2522959The fix is in~
It's Hodan
https://youtu.be/xCRyy8e0oLUThis reminds meHas anyone done something this for any of the forwardports of the custom characters?
People say this game's scene is infested with trannies like Melee locals, but I swear every time I check a tournament stream it's just the 4 most milquetoast dudes you've ever seen
I actually like that this game's community is so small that I can watch a tournament and see multiple players who have beat my ass online
>Watching BoBC>Watching Oly players attempt to win anythingTruly the saddest thing I've ever witnessed.
>>2556293I accidentally clicked the leaderboard instead of unranked earlier, and scrolled down out of curiosity. There are 2 Olympias in the top 100, not including Corncycle who dropped her for La Reina, and only 1 of them has her above 50% usage. Here are some other numbers>5 Absa>6 Etalus>3 La Reina>8 Orcane>8 Wrastor>0 SladePretty impressive for a character who's seemingly so popular.
>>2518494op forgot to name the thread, i genuinely couldn't find it
Plup's top 5, ordered:1.) Fleet2.) Zetterburn3.) Ranno4.) Clairen5.) Orcane
roa2 workshop now supports 2d characterswill the modders move over or stick to roa1?
I hate Olympia so fucking much and if Dan buffs her I'm gonna fucking murder him
I'll probably fucking kill myself before I can do that though
>>2559044no, roa1 is for children with toaster PCs.
>>2560433If roa1 were free it would be a popular third worlder game like brawlhalla. aether studios should just make it free, desu
>>2560950Brawlhalla gets its money from tons of DLC, RoA1 would need to find a brand new way to monetize their game. RoA2 was designed with microtransactions from the start but RoA1 already made all the DLC stages and characters free, with infinite custom characters/stages available via workshop, only has a finite amount of custom palettes, and even has the options both for custom palettes as an in-game feature and modded character skins in the workshop. What do you do to make money after this game goes F2P? Even if RoA1 isn't the new hotness it's probably still generating some income from people buying it in 2026 for the workshop stuff, it still averages 250-300 players despite not getting any new official updates. Aether Studios is already stretched as thin as it can go trying to get content for RoA2 out so they can't really make more, and if they did try to do that anyway they'd be competing with the workshop. What could they do?
>>2559805Brother, fuckin' Ganondorf has more redeemable qualities than Olympia. What could you possibly have against Oly in her current state?
Just give me the snake alreadyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0upMGmykgw
>>2562119Elliana got blacklisted from the industry for slaying slursShe was caught on camera calling Wrastor a pecker
>>2560950Brawlhalla was popular in the third world because it's a glorified flash game that runs on a moldy potato, and because it had tournaments offering life-changing amounts of money to said third worlders. It was also published by Ubisoft, hence the money. RoA is a UE5 game that runs well enough on modest hardware, but its monetization model isn't F2P-compatible at the moment.I don't know what the solution is. The game definitely deserves much more success.>>2559805Who do you play? Almost every other character has custom combos on Olympia and can kill her at 90% by breathing on her too hard. I imagine the only buffs she'll get are increasing her weight and maybe fixing her dtilt and nair. There's no longer any reason for her to be so light, she should probably be closer to Clairen's or Fleet's weight.
>tranny announcer for BoBC top 8Please don't be on commentary, please don't be on commentary
>>2562147They need to revert her aerial speed. You can't make a change like that to a character without charging the knockback trajectory on her moves to compensate; her combos were designed with that speed in mind, and without it, she feels dysfunctional. There's not one singular buff that would fix her current state. While a weight buff is nice, it's the least of her core issues.
>>2563469I actually think the air speed nerf is acceptable, the issue is that it's in addition to frame data, hitbox, and knockback nerfs to almost all of her relevant moves. Finishing combos with up special feels awful when it's now negatively disjointed and doesn't kill until 130-150% - meanwhile, La Reina is kill off of dtilt ustrong at 100%. What's the point of making it more difficult to connect without adjusting the reward, which was already nerfed? dtilt has the same issue.I'd have no issue with her air speed if it actually felt like she was rewarded for the "precise" gameplay the developers wanted.
>>2563565Nerfing her aerial speed made her approach worse, combo game significantly worse, and her already poor recovery terrible.Giving a character both poor speed *and* minuscule hitboxes is a death sentence.
cakewinslolMystery Sol vs. Corncyle and Corncycle vs. CD were the sets of the tournament for me>>2563725That's why I'm saying that if they don't want her to have her former air speed, they need to increase her weight and fix her hitboxes. dtilt's and nair's hitboxes are inexcusable in a game full of moves like La Reina dtilt, Clairen bair, Galvan nair, fair, and bair, etc. I'll take one or the other nerf, but not both. The La Reina dtilt comparison is especially comical because of it's just a better Olympia dtilt in every regard but one, which is that it has 2 frames more endlag. Who cares? Neither is safe on shield, lmao.
>>2562147Olympia is fast as FUCK and her jump is fast as FUCK and she just fucking overwhelms me in neutral>but if she holds a run she—She's not holding a run, she's dash dancing and wavedashing and her movement is fucking crazyI challenge her and she either whiff punishes me or double jumps at fucking lightning speed and I can't even punish the landing because FADC goes in both directions
>>2565572>Olympia is fast as FUCKObjectively wrong. She's slow, light, shit buttons, shit range, shit recovery, worst Strong Attacks in the game, and kills later than the majority of the cast to top it off; she got nothin'.
>>2565679All I can tell you is what I'm seeing with my own eyes. Even the wiki says she has "powerful aerial mobility," I'm not crazy here, and her dash (NOT her run, her dash) is sixth best in the game. Maybe I can run away from her but I can't deal with actual neutral against her once I'm forced to start interacting or I get pushed back to the edge
>>2565683Seriously, what character are you playing? I guarantee your buttons beat her buttons. Running away and trying to reset the pace is the opposite of what you should be doing against her. She (conceptually) punishes you for trying to slip away from her, you're supposed to stand up and fight back. As long as you have a good feel for the range of your moves, you will ALWAYS out-range her. Even if you can only get trades, she flies off stage way easier and has a harder time getting back than just about anyone else. And once she's offstage, just hit her. Everything gimps her recovery, if she gets tapped just once, she can't make it back. Olympia right now may be one of the biggest paper tigers I've seen in a fighting game.
>>2565572>She's dash dancing and wavedashing and...Because she has to. Her dash is good and her wavedash is good enough, but her neutral options are so mediocre that she's forced to make up the difference by either spamming nair and bair or, as you said, spamming jump and FADC. Her neutral options tend to trade, especially nair, and if she trades she's at a disadvantage because her only options are susceptible to FH and shieldgrab (jab, dtilt) or beaten by other characters' tilts (utilt, ftilt, jump). A lot of the time, her jab and dtilt won't even physically reach the opponent after a trade. At higher %s, it isn't uncommon for her to be thrown offstage or even die off of trades. I can't count the number of times I've traded with an invincible aerial from ledge and died off the OPPOSITE side of the stage at 90-110%. Just throw out hitboxes against her whether you're pressuring her or playing passively. For example, she can't even safely contest Kragg spaming SH fair in her face.I treat her like I treat Zetterburn: spamming double jump is a double-edged sword that puts both characters in a disadvantageous position if they're hit, so if they're spamming it, air-to-air them rather than anti-airing. Good Olympia players will FADC, but >>2541754 still applies. Olympia is much more likely than Zetterburn to just fucking die if you hit her out of the air after she's burned her double jump.Contrary to what you'd think based on her design, Olympia is actually awful at scrapping. It's her advantage that's good.
I want to get into this game, but I have two issues right now. First, I don't really "feel" any of the characters. None of them clicks with me, and it doesn't help that are so little to chose from. That's my own issue, but the second one is about inputs. I don't know if it's my controller or some configuration, but I for the life of me cannot get consistent inputs. I am using an 8-bit Do Ultimate 2 for reference.
>>2574460what do you mean by "consistent" inputs? what exactly are you struggling with?
>>2574460>First, I don't really "feel" any of the charactersWho have you tried? All of them? What are you looking for?
https://matchupbuddy.gg/New resource, basically a frame data / punish analyzer for every MU
https://evo.gg/news/evo-2026-by-the-numbersEvo numbers. RoA2 has the highest number of single-game entrants, which is interesting.
>linking RedditShiggy diggy, but I'm not going to Catbox a 6-minute clip purely to post it here. Here are Mango's thoughts on RoA2. Consider that he has been genuinely grinding the game for months and is #3 on the ranked ladder.https://www.reddit.com/r/RivalsOfAether/s/dfffr9Fib2I agree with almost all of what he says, personally.
>>2588281If we get shields nerfed before floorhug because of a drunk Melee player I'm going to spam Dan's Twitter asking for a refund
>>2588554Obviously saying "delete shields" is retarded, but the sentiment isn't wrong. Defensive options in general need to be scaled back, because they're completely centralizing the game around non-interaction. Anyone with a brain can see that the mechanics are layered in a way to force this.>you want to attack?>then i'll shield and punish>it's safe on block?>then i'll floorhug and punish
>>2588554Patch culture is good when Mango does it.
>>2588281wow its all of the same things ive been saying since the games release O_O. its almost like i knew what the fuck i was talking about

>>2590432Not that I disagree with what Mango's saying, but it's an impossible balancing act>if offense is good and you're actually rewarded for approaching and pressuring your opponent, people complain that your game is for brainless mashers and there's no neutral>if defense is good and you're actually rewarded for playing slow, intentional neutral, people complain that your game is for campy bitches and there's no incentive to approach>Give them the world and they'll bitch that the slow floaty character has an asteroidhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwxrQM5wabs
>>2590546scrubs always complain about good offense because their neutral is dogshitat least shit is happening then
why not go for the sonic fighters method of making shields a limited resource? after shields run out, you only have parry
>>2591150>forcing players to rely on RoA2's heavily nerfed parry on a regular basisPlease no, if they buffed it to be as good as in Rivals 1 then maybe it would work but I doubt that would happen
>>2591401not forcing, just font waste your shields
I hate the Council Bluffs server so much. Chicago is further from me, and yet it's always more stable.
>enter air armada>see thiswat do?
>stop approaching Slade>winThis character is so insanely fucking lame that I understand exactly why they made him so shit on release. He's heavy enough to floorhug everything, floaty enough to be difficult to combo, his nair hitbox is fucking degenerate, his dtilt is degenerate, his dstrong is degenerate. Everything about this character is fucking obnoxious, even his shit tier recovery is somehow annoying.
>>2601297I thank Christ that I'm not fighting another fucking Loxodont, Maypul, or Clairen, I'll take what I can get

>Plup says Oly and Maypul are the 2 worst charactersHow can they save them?
>>2610229do they even want to?
>>2610229I think it's Olympia and Slade, but I'm beginning to doubt with regard to Slade. Maypul is good enough, though. A character with her strengths can't - fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your perspective - be one of the better characters in the game. It's a bad idea.>>2610757I feel like there's a "what the fuck happened to Olympia" post on Nolt every week, but I think they're too traumatized by pre-nerf up special to ever give Olympia anything good again. >>2518494She probably gives an amazing foot and handjob
>>2624200Wait, so even at Olympia's peak, she was only played by 3 players? But 9 Clarien is fine, and 8 Zetterburn is fine?
>>2630157Don't waste your time trying to understand it. The only solo Olympia player never placed higher than 2nd place with her, and she only won tournaments pre-nerf; technically, pre-pre-nerf. She seems overly oppressive when she's combo'ing you, but the fact of the matter is that she has to start her advantage state with a significant disadvantage: slow, weak to floorhugging, weak to shieldgrabbing, bad hitboxes, dies the second she's hit. There's no reason to competitively play such an inconsistent character when you could play a Zetterburn or Clairen instead.Forsburn's similar. He isn't inherently bad, but he has to work harder than other, better characters.

(if it goes well i will personally come back here and say i was wrong.)aside from that there's at least supposed to be a "new form of monetization" coming later this year and legendary skins. it's possible they could randomly show off custom colors, but they had to fire their UI/UX dev so i wouldn't personally count on it. they might tease 8 player for later this year and they could also possibly announce the console release for 2027. not very exciting overall but they don't have the money for extravagance.
>>2647145it's just roadmapchar is top 8
>>2647145Hoping for only 3 characters next year, if only to properly fill out the character select screen.

Imagine how much more popular this game would be if it were released with console support in the first place. This should have been their number 1 priority from the beginning
My wife Absa has this.
>>2654951Console patch verification takes weeks, sometimes months if you're an indie dev, it's bad for games in early access (which RoA2 is in all but name)
>>2654961Why would you do this
>>2654963I don't buy this at all, especially when you see how much shit gets released in their shops. Not to mention that Rivals already had previously published games, so they know the ropes by now
GF set preview time
>>2654971Rivals 2 doesn't have to worry about console verification, they're not on consoles yet. You think the game would get preferential treatment but Rivals 2 ain't shit compared to Fortnite, they're a small fishThere are obviously big advantages to having a release on console but the existing playerbase won't be as appreciative of them when the latest patch has major game breaking bugs and it takes two months to get a hotfix on any platform because Nintendo doesn't care enough to verify your patch earlier than that. I once had to endure seven months of a DLC character in a fighting game destroying the experience with unintentional exploits because it was impossible to do day one hotfixes after console ports with crossplay released.
Gourie's design looks so bad. Rivals character designs are night and day worse than fan designs like Hodan and Olympia. At least Mina has a great design which will translate well. The Aetherverse is so aesthetically lame.
>>2655116funny, and I was just rewatching the trailer and thinking how much I like the design. visually it's a B+, butt conceptually i love the idea of some random rich kid who died in an industrial accident and got turned into haunted slime. almost sounds like a guilty gear character.
>>2655141>butt conceptuallyit's fucking over
I like Dan and all but is he seriously going to commentate all Top 8?
>>2655269Looks like it. I too don't care for his dry commentary
>>2654828How are skins going to work with her? Will they have to go through Yacht Club to approve all her cosmetics, or will she just not get any? Personally, it'd be fun to see Mina with different costumes.
plupwinslolGreat tournament, though. Plup unveiling the La Reina and ending it with the offstage up special was great. I'm sad Cake didn't believe in his Forsburn from the beginning.
i forgot to watch grand finals
>>2655476It was good cause Cake almost pulled 3 reverse 3-0s, but Plup's last game also was fun to watch.
>>2655476It was good, despite not being a reset. Crowd carried, but Cake was also looking like he was going to reverse 3-0 for the third time this bracket before Plup picked La Reina out of nowhere.
>>2655116>At least Mina has a great designMina makes RoA's female characters look like bimbos by comparison

>>2657111I think its funny how hard you guys seethe at the fact that people like exciting to play characters and not meme characters. What!??!?! People like COOL and EXCITING and SICK and FUN characters? Holy shit, no way. Who would've thought
>>2657187The point is your idea of "cool, exciting, and sick" is incredibly boring uninspired and generic
>>2657195Well for me I too don't want a spacie. I want something as cool and fun, but original. I would've preferred if Zetter didn't exist in the game at all for that very reason. It's something I've already played in another game. I want a cool and sick character that is also original, which roa devs have already proven they cannot provide because the devs themselves only like the kind of characters most people (most people as in everyone that plays platform fighters, not just pm players) find lame and cringe
>>2657111>Release rushdown character who specifically counters the campy nature of Rivals>Kills herNo need to go through all that again.

I hate how much the little goo guy is growing on me>see the design for the first time>what the fuck is this shit>why does he look like that>why does he sound like that>a day later and i've rewatched the trailer like 3 times just to enjoy his gooey whimsyHis theme's kind of a banger, too
>>2658151It's not guaranteed, Dan could nuke her from orbit or she could get the Clairen treatment and run wild until everyone quits the game with single changes like "[x] move does 1% less damage" once every three months
>>2658612The fucking cope. Clairen hasn't scored jack shit anywhere.
>>2658737Fighting games shouldn't be exclusively balanced around the top 1% of the playerbase and Clairen is a bigger issue for the majority of players (Diamond or below) than La Reina
>>2658737And yet she's very obviously a flawed character whom everyone finds frustrating to fight.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCPQGncOx-QI thought this video was a meme until I watched it and realized that it was Keits, who's an experienced fighting game developer. One of the points he makes is that there are times when you need to bend the knee to the players when you don't want to - because they're the players, and therefore their played experience of the game is more concrete than any metrics or abstract concept of "balance". If a pain point is pervasive enough, you need to be able to reflect on whether it's worth that pain - and nerf it if you don't know how to solve it.Clairen and floorhugging are obviously in that category for RoA2. The fact that Clairen isn't even winning tournaments doesn't mean she's "balanced". The same is true for La Reina, for that matter. She doesn't need to be shot behind the barn like Olympia (whom people still play, by the way), but her dtilt, nair, and uair need nerfs. We don't need to wait for Corncycle or Neylax to win a tournament to know what her issues are.I'm confident that I know what Clairen's issues are and how to reduce the frustration of fighting her without making her an irrelevant, bottom 3 character.
>>2659418>Olympia (whom people still play, by the way)Do they? She was the second least used character during Road to Vegas with 900 players, just above pre-buffed Slade, and her few loyalists left certain ain't winning shit.>but her dtilt, nair, and uair need nerfsYeah, why wouldn't a glass canon have a single good button, or a single reliable kill-confirm?
what characters are good for a newfag to play in this? i've only ever played smash casuallyalso is the game going to be in an okay state? i saw the content roadmap and next year looked kinda barren with there only being 2 new characters
>>2660417>Yeah, why wouldn't a glass canon have a single good button, or a single reliable kill-confirm?La Reina's dtilt, nair, and uair
>>2663155Clairen, Zetter, Loxodont. No, they're laying off core team members.
>>2663507>they're laying off core team members.proof?
>>2663657A quarter of the staff got laid off in late 2025 including the main UI guy and there was a more recent wave of layoffs with an unknown total number but it included the character designer (pic). They keep cutting back on production and reducing the pace of new content and characters, the game is not going to last more than a couple years from now. They only got a small player boost from being a main stage game at EVO and I don't expect that boost to last until the next character release in August; the only major player spikes come with new characters, and we're only getting two of those per year starting in 2027, and the game needs to make it to 2028 to get console players. Dan is probably going to have to take out loans if he wants to get there at this rate
>>2663155The game is in limbo until the console release. If it flops on console, it dies. Until then, they're just "being smart" about what they can and can't do. It's not really all gloom and doom, though.>they realized that 3D workflow is too difficult for Workshop, and added sprite-based characters as well as a tool to import existing Workshop RoA1 characters>guest characters will benefit the game>the next non-guest character basically has to be a returning character>the idea of "legendary skins" was abandoned for various reasons, and was retooled into the much better idea of clone characters designed to pad out the reduced character releasesWhat will make me abandon all hope is if the next character isn't a veteran. I'm not even a RoA1 player, but it's a completely counterintuitive strategy. They spent years building up Rivals of Aether as a brand and getting players emotionally attached to these characters - with spin-offs, with plushies, even with fucking comics - and now they're not giving people what they want. People want Sylvanos, Elliana, etc. It's like they're taking the opposite approach of SF6, which went all in on returning characters with the exception of AKI. It's only now - after 3 seasons of returning and guest characters - that they're indulging themselves with original characters whom no one is invested in. Gouie is at least cute and marketable, I guess. People seem to like him a lot.
>>2660417>Do they? She was the second least used character during Road to Vegas with 900 players, just above pre-buffed Slade, and her few loyalists left certain ain't winning shit. She still has some representation. Teri, Fnaan, and Librarian were all at Evo, and we even got a mirror match between the first two. I'm not disagreeing with the idea that Olympia is underrepresented or competitively unviable. She's too inconsistent to be viable. What I'm saying is that even though she's so inconsistent, people still play her because she's fun, and people will still play Clairen.
>>2663896>take out loans >on a downtrend Anon, dont be retarded. Also downsizing is fine. You don't need a conc*pt artist when he's got nothing to make. UI was finished and there's no need to push any new features, fast. I think dan budgeted everything for the end of 2028, see how SP chapter 1 and console do.

>>2681199What's that saying? Ranked is a treadmill. You're supposed to climb to your stable rank and then gradually condition yourself. In my case, it's because I'm washed and old.
>>2518494Just got Rivals 1 to fuck around with the workshop mods with a buddy and have really fell in love with it despite expecting it to like impenetrably hard for me. Even just a few days in I've found the little world and characters a lotta fun, already grabbed the other aether games though I think I'll hold off on rivals 2 for a bit to fully enjoy 1.Also big respect to people making good workshop characters that are on theme and fit the game's setting and art style
>>2688967>mfw reading through this thread after this postoh...didn't realize the game (moreso the devs and I guess the property as a whole) was this direreal shame too cause after seeing there was the rpg dungeons and all I was thinking the devs were in a better spot

>>2518494is this game worth getting into if im not into furshit?
>>2697746If you like playing platform fighters competitively then yeah, it's got very polished gameplay and movement feels great. Very lacking in single player content and will be until 2028, though it does have some casual multiplayer content now that there are items and casual stages with hazards. It also has workshop support in beta right now, and while not much has been made yet because 3D modeling and rigging is a lot harder than making 2D sprites, it might take off and then you'll have a ton of characters to play with. Rivals of Aether 1 has literally hundreds of high-quality custom characters from every IP you can think of as well as a ton of OCs with interesting gameplay, and hopefully Rivals 2 gets some as well even if not as quicklyIt's an early access game in all but name but the gameplay is smooth as silk
>>2697746Yeah. I'm furshit agnostic and I like the game. The designs are sexualized like a lot of "furry" designs, I think it's more accurate to think of RoA characters as anthro rather than furry. There's also characters who are decidedly not furry, like Kragg and Galvan.
>>2698074>The designs are sexualized like a lot of "furry" designsMeant, they're NOT sexualized.
I got like, 3 updates, and nothing changed.

>>2704322You're delusional. Sure she dies at 70%, can't kill, only has one hitbox that hits more the micrometer in front of her and it's frame 11 so it loses to literally everything, has an overcomplicated gimmick that gives opponent multiple opportunities to DI out of it, had her dtilt, utilt, nair, uair, bair, and dair nerfed, had her up special nerfed so it can't kill at 130%, had her gem toss and dash nerfed, never received a single buff, and every character has special Build-a-Bear combos that only work on her, but she's still "scary" and "oppressive" according to Redditors - so it's really a skill issue on the part of everyone who's playing her. Which is no one.We can't have a character that can approach be good, can we?
Can this game just EoS already so Dan Fornace can stop pretending he gives a shit about anything while leaving floorhugging and Clairen the way they are for two fucking years
Learning about the tech lockout bug single-handedly made me despise La Reina. If it isn't fixed in the next actual patch, I'm uninstalling.
I don't know about everyone else, but this has been my matchmaking experience for the past month and I'm sick of it. Actually, I'm really just sick of Clairen, Fleet, and Absa. I don't know why there are so many Absa players in my region, but she's so un-fun to fight.I miss fighting Kragg so fucking much. He was bullshit, yes, but everyone's bullshit, and he was at least fun to combo like Zetterburn.

i wanna get this game but 30 dollars is crazy
>>2715966First off, you missed a sale where it was $15. Second, $30 and all DLC characters being free is by far the best value for any paid fighting game on the market, including platform fighters. SF6, Tekken 8, and City of the Wolves are all overpriced and have anti-consumer DLC pricing (can't buy characters separately or have to buy them separately with "premium currency").Slippi is free and there are probably a few Discord fighters that are cheaper, but RoA2 is an insane value relative to other fighting games.
I hope Fleet is nerfed. That's it. That's the post.
>NERFS BUFFS NERFS BUFFS NERF THIS BUFF THAT THIS NEEDS A NERF THAT NEEDS A BUFFle sigh
>>2716782The game is in early access and there are clearly multiple characters who are too strong or too weak. It's inevitable that people are going to talk about balance, especially when we're in a dry spell for balance changes.
>>2718727you can apply all of that to melee and that game worked out just fine without le nerfs and buffs. why would this game be any different? do games really NEED balance patches?
>>2719273>Why would this game be any different?Melee is a 25 year-old game from an era where games didn't receive balance changes, and half of the roster isn't even consistently, competitively viable - no matter how many videos Walt makes about Luigi and Donkey Kong. Balance changes are not only expected of any competitively-oriented multiplayer experience (and have been for ~2 decades), they are necessary for any game that is attempting to grow an audience. The argument of>Oh, well, Melee was an unbalanced piece of shit, but it's okay because the 99.99th percentile of character specialists are actually able to make top 8 every once in a whileis tired. I love Melee, but it isn't balanced. I love it in spite of it being imbalanced, because its specific imbalances accidentally created a competitive multiplayer experience that's engaging and deep, but also predicated on hyperspecific character-stage (counterpick, really) interactions. Even something as simple as removing FD from the competitive stage list would have a radical effect on characters' competitive viability.Or you can just watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCPQGncOx-Q
>>2719273Melee had like eight viable characters at high level, out of 26, for more than a decade, and only recently has the meta developed far enough that characters like Donkey Kong and Luigi are making headlines. There are matchups in the game bad enough to singlehandedly invalidate characters, even relatively good ones like Ice Climbers, unless the player brings a secondary for said matchups. Melee is good despite these problems, but the game would theoretically be much better with a balance patch (but in practice the fans cannot agree on what balance changes should be made and usually fuck over characters they don't like, e.g. the hilarious nerfs to floaties in Beyond Melee and bottom tiers like Bowser and Zelda seeing their best tools nerfed).I don't think RoA2's balance is THAT bad overall, it's certainly good enough that every character can win a tournament even Olympia, but I'd say Clairen and Zetterburn are significantly better than the rest of the cast and it shows both in tournament performances and in the ranked leaderboard.
>>2719648>Melee had like eight viable characters at high level, out of 26, for more than a decadewhat's wrong with this
>>2719648>Melee had like eight viable characters at high levelit didnt stop melee from being fun to compete in. i mean the results speak for itself. just because you didnt like kirby or whatever being unviable doesnt mean a bunch of other people didnt like it. melee clearly didnt need balance patches if people played the game and enjoyed it anyways, so why would rivals 2 be any different?
>>2720087>why would rivals 2 be any different>ignores the post explaining why rivals 2 is different
So, who's the Yoshi function of this game?
>>2719648>Melee had like eight viable characters at high levelAround 8 characters is realistically the most you can balance and give players a chance to truly understand matchups. Much better than the clusterfuck now where you have to learn 100 matchups in Ultimate, think to yourself "fuck that" and just pick Minecraft Steven so you don't even have to interact with the game's mechanics.
8 matchups is the human limit
>>2720205Melee Yoshi or Ultimate Yoshi? I don't think there is one. No one has Yoshi's movement or parry. The closest are Ranno and Olympia, but not as a whole. There's no need for a character to have a bespoke DJC when hitfalling exists, and Ranno's hitfall aerials feel similar to Yoshi's DJC aerials. Olympia's juggle game is good and her FADC can function as a parry, but it isn't as aggressive as Yoshi's; but she's closer to Melee Falcon and Ultimate Mii Brawler than she is Yoshi.
>>2719404>half of the roster isn't even consistently, competitively viableso?>Balance changes are not only expected of any competitively-oriented multiplayer experience (and have been for ~2 decades), they are necessary for any game that is attempting to grow an audience.why? why is it necessary? >Melee is good despite these problems, but the game would theoretically be much better with a balance patchno it wouldnt. if anything the game would've been worse. the fact that 20 years later no one can agree on the perfect ideal melee patch is proof of that. games do not need a patch. the only reason i can think of to why you think they do need patches is because people would bitch and moan if their characters didnt get buffed and quit unless they got their way. thats a people problem, not a problem with games. games do not need balance patches. they should all be left the way they are and people actually interested in the game will enjoy them or the game will die if it were never truly good. the perfect balance patche isnt a metric at all in measuring how good a game is, its the game itself, how fun it is to play and how good its mechanics are
>>2720483I feel like you're talking about two different things. The sinister six being MU-agnostic has to do with Ultimate's system mechanics, not the excessive number of MUs. If you reduced Ultimate's roster to just the S and A tier characters, the competitive meta wouldn't be better off, you'd still have all the A tier characters being beaten by Steve, Sonic, Snake, Min Min, G&W, and ROB, because all they're doing is following a flowchart that ignores Ultimate's shallow, dumbed down system mechanics - which the A tier characters have to abide by.8 is an arbitrary number. The majority of USF4's roster is considered S, A, or B tier. Is 3S a better game because Chun, Yun, and Ken are so much more common than other characters? Even with just 8-ish common characters, its meta is arguably worse than USF4's.What actually matters isn't the volume of MUs, but the variability of MUs. No one wants to play a game where their main has an 80:20 MU (character and stage, in the case of platform fighters). But neither does anyone want to play one where top tiers don't have any disadvantageous MUs. This is why people hate Clairen: her worst MU is like 45:55 and she has no disadvantageous stages because Air Armada was removed. It's why people should hate Fleet, too. I'm not saying you should be forced to pick up secondaries, but characters need meaningful flaws to give depth to both individual MUs and the competitive meta as a whole.

>>2722665>if the game cant get it right on release then its never going to be a great gameMelee is the definition of not getting it right on release. It's riddled with bugs (including wobbling, which took 18 years to ban), mistakes which were never corrected or only corrected in PAL, half the roster isn't competitively viable and characters like Yoshi, Luigi, and Donkey Kong took a decade or more to become competitively relevant, and the game is full of AIDS MUs like Peach:Peach, Peach:Puff, Luigi:Falco, Peach:ICS, Puff:Puff, and Fox vs. half the roster. There are two possibilities here:1.) You're trolling2.) Your brain is actually so rotted by the fact that a disc-based, 25 year-old game that could not receive balance patches post-release that you have taken the>Melee is great by accidentargument to its logical extreme of>Melee is great BECAUSE it's imbalancedand can't understand any other perspective.>is there a single game out there that got a bunch of balance patches and is now an amazing game that doesn't need balance patchesBrood War received balance patches until May 2001, 3 years after it's release, and continues to be an extremely popular esport in South Korea. USF4 obviously received multiple re-releases and balance patches, and is considered one of the best fighting games of all time. Age of Empires II was played competitively for more than a decade before it re-released as HD Edition, which didn't receive any balance changes until 6 months later with the release of additional DLC. The game was then re-re-released as Definitive Edition BECAUSE HD Edition continued to be played competitively from 2016-2019, after its final expansion.AoE2 fits this description twice over, and when Definitive Edition stops receiving new DLC, it'll fit it three times over, as the community will continue to play it in spite of the lack of balance patches.
>>2721038>the game would theoretically be much better with a balance>no it wouldntwhy not? and no, "it just wouldn't, okay.">balance changes are expected and necessary>why?because the video game market is drastically different than it was 20-30 years ago. not only are all video games engaged in a much more violent fight for consumers' attention, this is especially true of competitive games that tend to struggle with player retention because they're inherently frustrating. it isn't 2001 anymore, retard. no developer, whether they're multi-billion dollar Capcom or $3.50 and a stick of gum Aether Studios can afford to tell their players, "we hear your feedback, and we don't fucking care," by not pushing balance patches. see SF6. the biggest controversy in the community has consistently been Capcom's unwillingness to patch system mechanics like drive meter and throw loops, but they still push balance patches to appease players.for fuck's sake, even Elden Ring multiplayer received balance patches and was better off for it.>no one can agree on the perfect ideal melee patchwhy does this mean balance patches are unnecessary? it isn't the players' role to agree on an ideal balance patch, it's the developer's to distill their feelings and feedback into one that's good for the game, not necessarily ideal. there are so many examples of good balance patches that i don't need to cite any.

>>2730365People are weird about the criticism, it's off-putting.
>>2730952I'm stating the obvious here, but it depends on what you're saying and how you're saying it. If you say something like>I'm disappointed by Slade's and Gouie's movesets because it feels like they're taking too much from preexisting Smash characters, and I expect better from the developersit's going to be better received than>Slade and Gouie are proof that the developers want their game to fail, also I hate floorhugging, shields, Clairen, and Zetterburn, and if they aren't removed I'm uninstalling, fuck you Dan / TrevorIf anything I feel like there are some players, including RoA1 players, who are too negative. >>2731045I dont care how someone says it. If they are right, then they are right. No one has to be nice about it

>>2731564you will view any mean negative criticism as that anyways. you only take criticism seriously if theyre also nice about it which the devs also do and it also explains why nothing important or high demand is ever fixed/implemented. it is an ego problem and not a "this guy is too retarded to be taken seriously" issue. ive paid enough attention to the devs and roa fans to know how this actually works
>>2731045It's normal to sound annoyed when talking about annoying things. When people aren't insulting the developers like your example, and only talking about the game, the responses get weirdly personal.
It feels like the developers have basically been silent since the Slade patch. If the Gouie patch shows that they're at least listening to common criticisms, I'll have faith. But if at least one of these issue isn't addressed, I'm not going to be the only person pissed off:>Olympia was absolutely gutted by 1.5.5, while Clairen and Zetterburn continue to receives slaps on the wrist>La Reina's recovery and her dtilt and either her dair or uair need nerfs>Floorhugging is still too strong and overcentralizing at low %s>too many moves are too safe in neutral, which makes whiff punishing weak and floorhugging even more overcentralizing*I've put like 110 levels into La Reina and that character is fucking brain dead.* - The more I play the game, the more I feel like wavedash OoS is as important as floorhugging as a defensive option, but the fact of the matter is that it's an unintuitive option to the average player. I think this is also one of the reasons that players find characters like Clairen and Loxodont frustrating to fight, because their jabs and tilts practically require you to practice wavedash OoS to punish them.
>>2731045>Slade and Gouie are proof that the developers want their game to fail, also I hate floorhugging, shields, Clairen, and Zetterburn, and if they aren't removed I'm uninstalling, fuck you Dan / Trevorliterally me. i enjoy link in smash but marrying his moveset to the shovel knight shop gimmick is groanworthy>This is the only non-Smash platform fighter worth a fuckplay the combo devils beta, sempai
Smash Factor is starting today. Excited for another weekend with absolutely no Olympia results.
>>2731045The obvious Zetterburn favoritism is unironically killing the game for me, though. They had no problem killing Oly, but think a similar character like Zetter is fine. And next year, we're getting a Zetter Echo, fuckin' great! If by some slim chance Gouie has a winning match-up against Zetter, they'll nerf him into oblivion, because god forbid their precious poster-boy has a losing match-up.
>>2735844>And next year, we're getting a Zetter Echo, fuckin' great! They already said this is a tentative decision, and that it isn't necessarily going to be a Zetterburn echo. They reason they used Renburn's art was because it was reused from the "legendary skins" concept.I'm ambiguous about Zetterburn, personally. I think that he isn't as good as people think he is. He's a lot like year one Palutena and Wolf in Ultimate, characters who were good because they had simple, effective game plans and the tools to execute them. Both characters fell off as the meta changed because their game plans go against Ultimate's true meta: camping and gimmicks. (They're STILL overrated. Every other character in A+ / A tier is better, except arguably Wario, Sora, and Cloud.)Zetterburn's good, but he's over-represented because, like Palutena and Wolf, his game plan is simple and effective. His fire isn't bad, but it has a concrete ceiling that other gimmicks don't: it doesn't interact with the other player. All Zetterburn's fire does is lower the % at which he kills by a fixed amount. The only scenario where the other player interacts with his fire is when they're DI'ing fthrow; otherwise, your DI, etc. don't change. Right now, people are playing a fundamentals-centric meta where this isn't relevant; but I think that as the game grows, characters like Fleet, Clairen, Loxodont, La Reina, etc. who have more interactive gimmicks that affect moment-to-moment gameplay and decision-making are going to either get better or not fall off. This is also the reason that Zetterburn has to be good. He doesn't have to be the best character in the game, but he has to be worth playing without his gimmick. If you over-nerf him, he'd basically become Olympia, but worse. Olympia is Zetterburn, but worse, but she at least has a dynamic gimmick. Zetterburn would have nothing.

Anyone getting stutters when the game is loading assets like death effects for the first time? Usually what would happen is that it would render a lower quality version the first time it was rendered. Now I get .5s stutters instead.
So sick of fighting Loxodont. I don't think he's that brainless, but playing neutral against him is so, so fucking boring. Not to mention that every single Loxodont player micro-stalls every single game by going to ledge between stocks. Like 6 months into the game's launch I made an off-hand comment about how a character like Loxodont should never be high / top tier. I've been feeling extremely validated, being forced to fight a normal zoner whose entire game plan is to just stand under platform, hold down, and not approach,
>>2746791>submit post>immediately queue into another LoxodontThis character is so god damn boring to fight, man
>>2746791>whose entire game plan is to just stand under platform, hold down, and not approach,Isn't that every roa2 character?
>>2746791i feel that way about 90% of the characters
>>2749243I only struggle against Clairen, Loxodont, and Slade doing this. There are other characters who try to do it, but they don't have the tools to completely cover approaches like the disjoint characters do. For example, Forsburn isn't as good at it despite having disjoints; he's better off fishing for whiff punishes by weaving in and out of your burst range. Zetterburn can't do it, Orcane can't do it, not even Ranno can do it (he camps platforms for offense, not defense). It isn't as effective as actually playing the fucking game.Sadly, you have to out-lame Loxodont. I've given up my respawn i-frames against Loxodont. If you lose a stock, it is unironically better to taunt and teabag than it is to try and approach him invariably side B'ing to ledge. And then I just teabag until they approach and, guess what, they usually fucking lose because I'm not walking into their win condition. Morons.
>>2749955The question is: would having a Final Destination clone as a counterpick stage fix this?
>>2750888Probably. I take Loxodont to Julesvale / forest / armada as much as possible because it forces them to play actual neutral.

In Olympia's case it might also be the fact that she had big breasts in her original workshop art and she'd need to bind them so they don't get in the way when she fights; up to you to decide if that explanation holds after her tits got nerfed. >>2775137You'll play exactly how you're told because that's what depth is.
>>2775137I'm going to play devil's advocate and argue that jab cancels are good enough that they shouldn't be a consistent confirm, regardless of %. Jabs aren't hit confirms; they sacrifice knocking down for frame data, and that frame data is what allows them to function as hit confirms - situationally. There are basically three scenarios when you jab your opponent:>your jab's frame data allows it to hit an opponent when they're unable to shield or ASDI, your jab hit confirms into a tilt>your jab gets shielded>your jab gets floorhuggedThe first is obviously the best case scenario, but there's nothing to elaborate on except getting a ht confirm off of jab is either more situational (Melee) or nonexistent (Ultimate) in other platform fighters, and this is very strong. In the latter two scenarios, you still have the advantage of initiating the rock, paper, scissors interaction that follows. The majority of characters have an option out of jab that beats jab, dtilt, or shieldgrab; usually this is jab 3 or a jab canceled dtilt; of the minority that don't, only Olympia doesn't have disjoint to mitigate this weakness. Loxodont's and Clairen's jabs don't link into anything that beats shieldgrab, etc., but that's what spacing is for. Basically every other character gets a coin flip for jabbing shield. The same applies to floorhugging, but the defending player is deliberately sacrificing some % for a frame advantage which doesn't inherently win them the coin flip.I'm not really defending floorhugging, but complaining that your jab cancel got floorhugged is grass-is-greener scrubbery. Jab, of all moves, deserves to be beaten by floorhugging. I've seen the alternative, which is PM's jab-grab bullshit, and it is not better than how RoA2 balances jab.

>>2791108What exactly does he think they are getting wrong? Those are some pretty basic comments
>>2791432if you listen to him for long enough it's pretty fucking obvious that he's ignorant about basic things
>>2791108>>2791442>>2791569Objectively speaking, floorhugging (the Rivals equivalent of ASDI Down) and crouch cancelling aren't the same thing, but both of them are in Melee. That Reddit screenshot is just one of many examples of the blind leading the blind. "Floorhugging" as a term isn't even from Rivals, it's been around since at least 2017 and it used to just describe the entire suite of mechanics that players use to stick to the ground/survive longer in PM and Melee, including CC, ASDI Down and Amsah teching. There's a Hax video from 6 years ago about this.
>>2792009>theyre not the same thing but its in meleecontradicting statement
>>2792009Rare rational post in this thread. I didn't even realize how retarded the Redditors in the OP were until your post prompted me to reread their replies.>>2792019He's saying that floorhugging and crouch canceling aren't the same thing, which is true. Floorhugging is ASDI down. Crouch canceling is in both Melee and RoA2, and indirectly increases the effectiveness of ASDI down by reducing hitstun and knockback.
Happy that both Sandstorm and Galvan finally won a major. Sandstorm's neutral is so good it's intimidating, Galvan's a good fit for him as a player.
>>2792177>Floorhugging is ASDI down.but this isnt true. it takes inspiration from it but does asdi down 10x worse than the 2001 video game. floorhugging still isnt asdi down, because it doesnt function the same way
Thank you, Capcom, for reminding me how much worse a patch could be 2 days before Gouie. I'm mildly optimistic about the patch.
>>2792637What the fuck are you even saying anymore?? It's a MELEE term invented by MELEE PLAYERS to describe a MELEE mechanic. How it functions in Rivals (pretty much the same btw) is irrelevant to the validity of that statement

>>2797116I think they're being cautious because basically all of the new system adjustments benefit her playstyle. They don't want to completely roll back her nerfs, since they're inching the game more towards being one she wants to exist in. While getting dtilt back doesn't really fix her, they might end up drip feeding her back into relevance.

It's nice that Gouie released in a functional state, La Reina and Slade were such a bummer to play before they were buffed

Plup is right that Rivals players need to stop fucking bitching about everything, especially the ones with a platform to do so. Zeke and Nurse are the worst offenders.
>>2801588>Orcane mainI'd be saying the same thing if I were him, yeah. I won't stop bitching about Clairen though, sorry

Sophilo's Zetterburn is so fucking lame. They just disengage after every interaction and hug wall when recovering.>>2801752He's not even bitching about Orcane, he's just mocking retards like Zeke for bitching about Orcane when he isn't even on-screen.
I picked up bad habits from this game I never recovered from even though I havent touched this game in like a year. Like randomly pressing buttons more than I need to because of this game having a buffer system causing me to randomly jab nothing in melee and constantly get punished for it. I could just unlearn it but I dont have time to do anything other than just mindlessly play unranked so thanks rivals 2 for fucking up my melee play forever
>>2802121RoA2 is platform fighter retirement home for me. I've had to relearn Melee like 4 or 5 times, and I know I no longer have that dog in me. RoA2's easier to pick up and put down because the "advanced" tech is so much more consistent to execute without grinding it.
>patch note stream>a lot of people are asking why we didn't nerf clairen but uhhhh we did, look at her grab nerf and the ledge parry changes (that clairen can avoid by recovering low)I wish I never gave this conman my fucking money

Zetterburn isn't nearly as good / bad as people think he is
>>2805240He's just so fucking overpicked in comp and ladder.
>>2805248I mean, that's fine. If there's a character who's going to be common, it's ideally Zetterburn:>fastfaller, easy to combo>gimmick is relatively limited>recovery is relatively linear>incentivized to approach, can't camp effectivelyZetterburn being good is similar to Palutena or Wolf being good in Ultimate, or Fox being good in Melee. That is, it's better for the game than the alternatives. Who the fuck would want to play a version of RoA2 where Clairen, Loxodont, or Wrastor are the most common characters, for example? All these people bitching about Zetterburn are more insufferable than Zetterburn players themselves. I'm not exactly thrilled to watch Sophilo or Beastly in bracket, but it's not offensively bad or imbalanced.
>>2805258it's offensively bad to me because those players have huge egos about their success when all they do is exploit easy characters. stango is the same and yes lox is easy.
>>2805320Imagine caring about this shit.
>>2805320Sounds like a (You) problem

You can bind inputs to the dpad in Smash UltThis technology is far too advanced for dan
>>2808856Taunts are more important.
>>28078269/11 for the worst person you know
>>2805240>>2805258>That is, it's better for the game than the alternatives.Fuck off, Beastly. Half the cast is more entertaining than Zetterburn. His worst quality could be defined as "above average," while he's god-tier at everything else, all while being the most accessible character. Absolutely terrible for the game.Just look at EVO's chat during top-8, Rivals' largest tournament ever. The only time spectators were bitching was when Zetter was on screen.
>>2811177>Fuck off, BeastlyI hate Beastly and Sophilo and think that Zetterburn being top tier is fine.>His worst quality could be defined as "above-average"His worst qualities are his gimmick and his offstage game, both recovering and edgeguarding. His gimmick is average, and his offstage game is below-average because it's very linear and he's susceptible to reversals. He can only consistently cover two positions when edgeguarding: spamming shine at the wall or fishing for strong fair - typically off of an extension rather than a raw edgeguard. His recovery is the same: either he goes to the wall and eats X% off of wall techs or he goes for a raw up special, which is easy to intercept.Zetterburn is not the insurmountable, god tier character you think he is. At worst, he's boring bracket filler like Ranno, Melee Fox, or Ultimate Palutena.
>>2811260>like Melee FoxAre you seriously using Melee Fox as a POSITIVE example of game balance? The character primarily responsible for like half of the Melee roster being unviable?
>>2811812No, I'm saying that he fulfills a similar role in the metagame despite being significantly better balanced than Melee Fox. If anything, he's closer to Sheik in terms of function: simple and easy to play, but not unbeatable even in disadvantageous MUs. His strengths aren't so overwhelming that he auto-wins, and top 8s reflect that.Basically, you talk like a faggot and your shit's all retarded.
Now that the dust has settled, what are your thoughts on the new gooboy? I think he is fun, but too slow for this game's pace
>>2816742He's fine. Not my type of character, but he at least has good buttons. His gimmicks are, ironically, really underbaked: big mode needs to be rebalanced, the mire feels like an afterthought, and his item mechanics are going to take a lot of time to get good with.Praying that the next character is either someone simple (the big lizard bitch from Dungeons) or Elliana.
>>2822572>the big lizard bitchI dunno, her Dungeons gimmick is basically aura/rage from Smash Bros., and knowing this game they'd take it a step farther than that and give her specials new properties past a certain percentage. Could be cancerous. On the other hand seeing 5 Fire/Earth/Water characters and only 3 Air characters on the CSS would be pitifully funny
The developers need to realize that pandering to Smash casuals won't help RoA2 succeed in the long-term.>spend months working on casual items and stages>no one cares>spend months developing a casual-friendly Kirby character>no one cares>will spend months developing a story mode>no one will careI think their focus should basically be on three things: characters (especially guest characters), cosmetics, and competitive play. People like Smash because it's Smash, not because of the content of the games. They just want to play as Mario, Sonic, or Cloud - the actual gameplay is a mere afterthought to 99% of Smash players. All the "casual" content in Smash works not because it's good or inherently worthwhile, but because Smash has massive popular appeal due to its constituent IPs. Spending all this time and money on trying to reach this audience is like designing and springing a well-oiled mousetrap and then forgetting that you have no cheese to bait it with.
>>2830576I care about story mode. And a lot of casual smash fans remember subspace very fondly even to this day with a lot of people wishing ultimate's sp stuff was richer.Granted, I know I am in the minority on this. But having sp stuff gives the game a little extra reason to purchase it once it inevitably dies.
>>2830763People don't remember Subspace fondly, they remember Subspace's cutscenes fondly. That's a critical difference.
>>2830576>(especially guest characters)Kill yourself kill yourself kill yourself kill yourself kill yourself kill yourself kill yourself. The fact that we're getting ANY guestslop before Elliana and Sylvanos are added is bullshit. We're only getting two real characters per year, the fact that at least one of these two characters will have to wait for 2028 at the earliest is an obnoxious decision by the devs, and you want to shove even more guestslop into the schedule? Leave the guest characters for the workshop.
>>2830576This is complete corporate-brained retardation, and is not only the reason the game has been floundering so far, but also why fighting games in general are shit lately. Single player content IS THE GAME. Every person who has ever gotten into fighting games started out fighting the CPU, going through arcade mode. People whose first experience is getting trashed by a friend almost universally bounce off the genre. Your average gamer just wants to have fun. Competitive players are a minority in the wider gaming sphere, and being able to hop onto a game and just screw around, without any pressure of ranks or seasons is what most people want to do. If they can't do that, your game doesn't have a selling point. You can pump out as many skins and crossover characters as you want, but people won't get any of them if they don't even pay for the price of admission in the first place. If they can't just have fun, they won't stick around, and you have no one to milk with additional purchases. And that's the biggest thing: all of that shit can be used in single player too. It can be used in casual. But you need to hook them first. Single player is the hook. Casual is the gateway drug to competitive play. It's the only way to get fresh blood into the ecosystem, and without fresh blood, the game dies.
>>2831075>The fact that we're getting ANY guestslop before Elliana and Sylvanos are added is bullshiThere's a non-guest character in December, and it's likely it'll (finally) be a returning one.
>>2831462All your yapping is irrelevant because this game DOES NOT HAVE A CASUAL AUDIENCE. Seriously, get this into your thick skulls already, releasing this game without the console version was a MASSIVE mistake. PC players are more competitive by nature, and you add to the fact that you need an external hardware to even play the game as it was intended doesn't help either. Another huge mistake was releasing with so few characters and STILL being a pay-to-play game, no matter how cheap it might be. Casuals will not play Rivals unless they are invested in the first place, and not because it has some shitty single player mode
>>2831851This, casuals just want their Mario et al., they don't care about all the bells and whistles. I don't think Rivals is trying to be Smash, but it's trying to succeed in the same way as Smash - which is a mistake.
steam charts and investor meetings have ruined all gaming discussion on the internet
When the game was announced I was hoping for a good single player story to more fully realize the world they set up in ROA. I thought they'd have something really special being the only platform fighter to not rely on crossover bullshit or key jingling and instead have a cool, focused fantasy setting to tell a story in. But at this point I don't think they should bother. To me it doesn't seem like they have the chips to do anything but bet it all on the competitive scene. Even when setting resources aside, since the definitive edition the set dressing has only gotten muddier. Where you once had a high-fantasy, low tech world with a simple elemental "soft magic" system, now we've got robot dinosaurs and goo monsters and pop stars from the future. If they somehow get the story mode out, I think it's going to suck unless they make it completely insane.>>2831462I agree with the sentiment that if they were going for new players, they needed to have some better single player stuff to do. But I think the goal was always to appeal more to the competitive folks. And y'know, whatever. It didn't turn out to be the game I wanted. I reckon gameplay-wise it's very much the game the devs wanted to make. And I reckon it works pretty damn well for its audience. I just don't know how that audience is gonna keep the lights on for these devs.
>>2834664It reduces discussion of anything that isn't popular by virtue of being popular to mind-numbing circular logic, especially with regard to fighting games.>it's not popular, so I'm not going to play it>well, how is it going to get popular>people have to play itThe FGC has a Goldilocks thing going on where they won't settle for anything but the perfect porridge, except they end up settling for dog shit like SF6 or Smash Ultimate and bitching about it.I don't think anyone actually cares about the steps that the developers of RoA2 took to make the game appealing to potential new players (the low price, free DLC characters, etc.). I think the developers' priorities have been misaligned to a degree, but RoA2's lack of popularity kind of makes me hate gamers more than anything. They bitch and moan about anti-consumer practices, but RoA2 is proof that pro-consumer ones don't sell games, and people just want brands and IPs. Multiversus already demonstrated this, too.
They should've had people pay for the characters. That's where all the time goes. That's where the value of the game lives. It's the exchange of money for a service that's closest to reality. And to be fair to the ROA community, a lot of players went, "that's insane. you hate money" when Studio Aether announced that DLC characters would be free. When I tried to get my friends to play this game, the first question I got was "Is it free?" Motherfuckers really think this shit grows on trees. It's wild.
>>2834797Yeah I actually find the world they made pretty interesting (dungeons of aether had a pretty good story shockingly, I like how it expanded everything pretty sensibly). I can live with clairen's future stuff but then you have shit like Pomme who I don't think has ever been elaborated upon as to why or how she's in the past, at least Mollo showed up on the comic. I'm not too bothered by gooie since places like water town and julesvale have been more technologically advanced since the beginning.I find it funny that past ROA1 they had other games and stuff come out that expanded the story and made their world feel bigger and lived in but then 2 came around and it's the only thing they do and they don't really care about the setting anymore beyond the barest window dressing it seems. Like the setting and franchise as a whole has kinda narrowed dramatically. I can't really think of another franchise that's done something quite like this except for ones that blew up and burnt out and managed to put out a meager "back to roots" game years later
>>2835022being pro-consumer doesn't matter if consumers don't like the product
>>2835086Remix Rivals also represent an opportunity to do some interesting alternate timeline stuff.
