No slavery per se, but you can bait some creatures into breaking down trees and rocks and ore deposits for you, notably Trolls. I'd recommend turning the rates to x2 or x3 though in the world settings, because you're right, it is kinda grindy.

Planning to squatter the entire island, and FULLY spawn-proof it. And be totally care-free.
But i have no idea how spawnproofing work exactly. Any tips? I want it to be fully, 100% clear at any time.

>>3002939
easiest way imo is to place a workbench on the coast, then switch to a wall piece or something, run along the coast until you can't place it anymore, switch to workbench, place it, then switch to wall piece again, rinse and repeat unitl you've encircled the island(if the island s small), then do the same thing and work yourself towards the interior.
>>
>nomap noportal
>ashlands plan
I have a base just north of ashlands, but I don't think I'm gonna sail in just yet.
Thinking of putting my root harnesk on the shelf, and sail all the way to spawn and get bonemass.
I want some supplies from meadows anyway, like neck tails for poison resistance.
Maybe get some extra ancient bark from swamps too.
Never found Haldor and he's better in 1.0 so being more thorough and look through the black forests I know of.
Finding the bog witch would be nice too.

When I do sail in, I think I'll bring plenty of supplies to build another ship in case something goes wrong.
Maybe spawn proof the pillars as I sail in, even putting up shield generators on some of them.
>>
>>3002939
Okay, so you know how when you place down a workbench and then try to build something like a wall or floor, there's a circular area centered around the workbench that you can build in? That's the radius where nothing can spawn more or less.
Base pieces like workbenches, campfires, etc. there's a list of base pieces on the wiki, but campfires and workbenches are the cheapest all do this, more or less. The latest update(s) tweaked a few pieces so they have slightly greater or smaller range.

Simply put, you want to place a workbench, swap to a different building piece so that you can see its area of effect, walk to the edge of it, and place another workbench (or campfire) right on the edge, and then repeat that until you've encircled the area you want to spawn proof. Put your base in the center, and all the base pieces you place in there should prevent any spawns within the confines of your borders. You may have to check for gaps in your net by trying to build outside, and if there are any blank spots in the giant venn diagram you've made, you should probably place a campfire or workbench there.

Note: some enemies like bats during the 'stir the cauldron' raid can spawn above the water beyond your spawnproofed area, but there's nothing you can do about that.

I didn't miss it in the past, but Haldor has been buffed since I started.
I think it only becomes suffering if you play it like you have to find him. Kinda like an extremely low drop rate in a game isn't a problem if you treat it just like a happy accident if you get it, and not as something you obsessively must grind for.
Looking for queen was suffering though, but I think I also kinda employed a poor stubborn strategy

I've probably spawned him, but haven't seen him, and I think I can just run through the familiar black forests with fenris gear(once I get my fenris gear back, I left the pieces I had at my last base) pretty fast with no danger. Like I didn't even try looking for him.

ashlands isn't so bad now, the grapple hook makes flametal mining a breeze and enemy spawns aren't nearly as aggressive as they were when the biome first launched. deep north is fun, but armor upgrades are gated by rare drops from enemies, so you might need to farm loads of jotun before you get a full set.

Demolisher+Krom is pretty good for the fight.
Demolisher against the brood swarms, ideally using elevation and the pillars to your advantage.
I also like Skoll and Hati against the seeker adds.
Hookshot to get up is nice, wisp torches to clear mist further down, but that felt less needed last time for me, could probably place them.

I've only fought Queen 3 times solo, and enough time between each time that I think I had to relearn the same lesson, I started with mistwalker+shield each time, but eventually stuck to Krom.
More damage during the openings and I can roll forward or to the side between the attacks.
I webmed my fight a bit:
>>3002485
>>3002533
I think skoll and hati instead of Krom also might work better than mistwalker for main damage, should be able to more consistently get attacks in. I think I did for while bonemass was up for my 2nd time fighting Queen.

I've heard magic is even better.

It's funny how much of a joke that fight is in multiplayer in comparison.
Like I think in 4 player coop that fight was actually the smoothest and quickest boss fight.

Things I would change in the 1.0 release so far:
a) add checkpoints to every skill, so if your cooking is 21 and your sword skill is 47, after dying they can't go below 20 and 40 respectively.
b) rework forge of potential almost entirely. Remove failure chance, add a level ceiling to lvl 10, and make base raids from the minibosses drop idols. So if Brenna from smouldering tomb raids your base, killing her would drop bronze idols.
c) armors for tameable pets. I'd rather have a couple wolves that can tank a hit here and there instead of trying to herd a pack of 20 wolves into the plains just so the 2 may survive the mosquitoes and 18 perish in the process. Similarly with loxes, an armored lox would be nice.
d) for the love of God, add a way to replant mushrooms. I'm tired of foraging for red mushrooms for every recipe all the way up till plains.

>make it so I can get more powerful easier by just grinding
First, do you have any idea what genre of game are we playing? Second, in order to make your current gear just as strong as the next biome's gear piece, you need 4 successful forge upgrades in a row, 17.8% chance. If this was a korean MMO, these gear upgrade chances would be great, because you can enhance as many times as you can, in Valheim though, the enhance materials (the idols) are finite. And since you aren't getting your idols back when the upgrade fails, but instead you get back the infinite materials to re-craft it, you are only doomed to get a gear piece broken before it ever becomes actually strong.
An example from my experience, I explored 4 large mountain biomes after finishing upgrading my mountain gear and killing Moder, close to 20+ frost caves plus 2 howling caves. I ended up getting 8 armor idols. Going by statistics, at best that would get me a +7 armor piece, at best. That's a +6 armor heading towards plains. Do you see how pointless that low chance success is?
>>3004648
>>3004802
I know many mods fix most of the issues this game has. But I want to finish it once in hard vanilla before getting QoL mods, mostly to see if I can make it without them. I'm also hoping that there is a small chance these devs won't get another pony after the 1.0 release and fuck off forever, but instead keep giving it some love and time, especially since they raised the price pre 1.0 release. Well, if they don't, there are more survivalslop games to play out there.
>>
i can't choose between axes, clubs, or knives
im also stuck on the version right before the combat update (220.5 i think), so no trinkets or bears or skull splitturs
>>
>>3005170
>First, do you have any idea what genre of game are we playing?
A survival crafting game, not an rpg.
If you understood that you're not playing an mmorpg you wouldn't have searched 4 mountains and 22 caves to upgrade your soon to be obsolete gear by increments.
It's like you're playing minecraft and having a hissyfit about how enchanting your stone sword isn't very viable and how Mojang needs to make it easier to get better stone swords instead of mining some diamonds and progress the game.
>That's a +6 armor heading towards plains. Do you see how pointless that low chance success is?
If instead you walked into plains with level 10 silver gear, the suggested maximum, since idols would be replenishable and no failure chance, you'd walk in with plains with 124 armor, instead of the standard 82 armor, or your 88 armor.
I don't think the game becomes better because autists who grind korean mmos want the enemies to be less dangerous by tediously making their 4th biome armor on par with 7th biome armor before going into the 5th biome.

Leaving it as is would be preferable over than that, even better would be removing it entirely because it is a bad mechanic that tricks the gamba inclined into a grind they don't like, or really need.

My preferred solution while not removing it, would be to let silver idols upgrade silver gear once, then those level 5 quality silver gear can get upgrade once more with black metal idols, etc.
Deep north stuff getting to a maximum of 5 quality, ashlands 6, mistlands 7, plains 8, silver 9.
You could safely remove the failure chance then.
Would need a different solution for capes though so deer hide cape isn't weirdly tanky as you get further in the game.
>>

>>
>>3005305
>A survival crafting game, not an rpg.
A survival game where, like with every game in the genre, you have to grind to get better gear with better stats.
>you wouldn't have searched 4 mountains and 22 caves to upgrade your soon to be obsolete gear by increments
I searched because I wanted to play the game. If I just wanted the idols I could just spawn them or duplicate them you retard. But that wasn't even the point.
>If instead you walked into plains with level 10 silver gear
My argument was about upgrading a single armor piece, not a full armor set. A full set of level 10 would require 18 armor idols and a 0.65^18 chance to make that without failing once, good luck with that. Not even the retarded Swedes would think this as the main progression path. The whole point of the idols, was to pick a piece of gear that you like either aesthetically, or mechanically, and use it with extra stats on further biomes, like the Frostner, Root harness, Fenris leggings, etc. Not to upgrade everything to the point the next biome's gear is obsolete. But even with that in mind, the failure chance and the scarcity of the idols, makes it impossible.
>My preferred solution while not removing it
A solution similar to mine, the Forge needs a level cap, and the failure chance to be removed. Now whether I'd get my Frostner at lvl 8 in Deep North or in the Plains, it barely even matters in the grand scheme of things.

>im also stuck on the version right before the combat update
Why? Afraid you will lose your save if you pirate the 1.0 version?
>axes, clubs, or knives
You will probably be missing a lot of the 2 handed axes I think, and 1 handed axes are just worse swords. I'd go 1 handed mace + shield. Mostly you will have issue with a handful of mobs, notably troll and abomination.
>>
>>3005452
I'm too much of a lazy retard to pirate anything nowadays and I'm afraid of bricking my old shitty pc, also my ISP sent me hatemail for torrenting tv shows and I'm too stupid to VPN, nor do I trust them

i think i'm gonna stick with axes because i still get access to the crystal battleaxe, then i can use jotun bane and then berzerker axes
clubs are nice for some things, but like you say, i'd be fatigued trying to use them vs trolls or abominations, which knives kind of suck against too unless you get the sneak attack off

From some friends in Germany, they told me that they go as a group in a big IKEA or a big supermarket with free wifi, sit at the furniture area, download everything on their laptops/phones and then do their groceries and leave. If my country ever does the same thing, I'll buy a thinkpad or a shitty laptop and go do the same in nearby coffee shops that I don't really like that much.

I went with axes on my current run as well, 2 handed ones are pretty decent, they work as a reverse atgeir. They shine in every scenario where you have to hit more than one target per swing. You can't parry everything so you will have to learn which hits to roll and which ones to parry, and also to learn how to swing sooner than the enemy gets in range. But they are fun.
Other than that, my axe isn't usually my biggest weapon in this game. Autism is. The skelly boi will be surprised when he spawns.

I was literally talking about that with my buddy like an hour ago, and I feel like it's come up every now and then since 2021.
I specifically want the leather roofs, but also those types of roofs but with troll leather, and with carapace

The one reason I can think of is that it clutters up the building stuff with fringe stuff, but you could just put it all under a goblin tab, and have a specific work bench for them.
Like goblin workbench made out of bones+goblin shaman trophy.

Ah. Yeah, that's definitely a misleading clue, I agree. I found out by accident that they'll eat barley, because a herd of them stampeded across a goblin encampment that happened to be growing some to go kill some tar blobs, and on their return to their spawn point, they ate some and some hearts appeared.
It was a one in a million situation though, otherwise I probably would've looked it up.

Unless you're autistic about playing vanilla only I would just bite the bullet and get a terrain modification mod like dirty hoe, and one that lets you use equipment in water
If you really don't want to use anything like that you'll have to wait for a storm and frantically dig when the water recedes, or time your swings while jumping off a higher point so that you smack the pick into the ground just before you're submerged. Also hold shift while using the flattening mode on your hoe so that it tries to flatten relative to where the cursor is, can let you get some of those annoying bumps under the water
>>
>>3008273
eating for eitr isn't so bad because you're only going to use stamina for running, jumping and dodging. the big downside is that if you want a decent mana pool, gotta eat two eitr foods which means you'll only be eating one heal food, and lower HP and lower armor usually means you're gonna get two shot by most things. thankfully basically everything in the game is easily kited but it's very much a glass cannon playstyle

MyDirtyHoe gives you really busted terrain tools, try to show some restraint with it or you'll quickly be terraforming entire mountains with a single click. I mainly just like the flattening tool because it actually fucking flattens things properly instead of leaving bumps or holes that you'd normally have to fiddle with over and over to get flat terrain. The ramp tool is also really nice.
If you fuck something up it has a button to undo changes, and to reset terrain to how it was naturally generated.

>Also is magic any good
The moment I could craft a staff, I switched from 2 health 1 stamina to 2 health 1 eitr food, because it opens up a lot more possibilities. Staff of embers is a demolisher that can work on range as well, staff of frost can lock down a single target with the slow while you catch a breath, and the shield bubble is probably worth more than an armor upgrade. They are even better in co-op, because that way, the frontline tank won't have to sacrifice a food slot just so he can get the shield bubble, the ones sitting in the back don't have to worry about catching stray hits, etc.
Most people call magic broken. No one has called magic bad, probably the only bad spell is the skelly raiser.
>>

take the 2 eitr food pill. health is for people who get hit, more eitr means fights end sooner because you can dump spells faster, so you're less likely to get hit. only thing that really hits me now is the Hexen shotgun blast, and that's mostly just a skill issue of me not using the dodge system in favor of kiting and positioning away from danger in the first place.

That's kind of how I feel about the road connecting my Mountain base to the Main base smelting center/portal hub. It was fun enough to construct though.
The plan is for the canal to see some use, at least, because it'll act as the main thoroughfare for whatever materials I find in my first foray into the Mistlands that need to be transported back for processing.
I haven't played since Moder alters had a chance of just not spawning in the world. Plains biome was still in, I think. I remember I had a base and getting killed by deathsquitos a lot but that's about as far as my progress ever got.

There are a race of little green men that you need to relentlessly slaughter to turn into weapons, armor, tools, furniture, conduits for channeling occult magics, all sorts of things to further your own technological and cultural progression. Some may think it a stretch to call them "men" but they aren't just unthinking creatures, they build, use fire and tools, form hierarchical communities, foster close family bonds, have spiritual traditions and beliefs. I sometimes think about this when I walk into my kitchen and see big the dark green wok hanging by the hearth, but then I proceed to make 12 sausages, 10 blood puddings and 10 fishwraps and I remember that they are the vile enemies of the all-father and if they didn't want to subjected eternally in death, they shouldn't have been born filthy greenskins.

>>
>>3009867
>is it really cheating?
Yeah
All savescumming isn't equal, and in the case of the forge it is definitely cheating.

If you fuck up in morrowind and savescum, you're simply trying the same thing again that is reasonably possible.
If you savescum with the forge you are doing something that is impossible in normal play, you are getting into TAS rpg territory where any % evade attacks is 100% evasion, and any % to crit is 100% chance to crit.
It's not a great system, but the failure chance is what keeps the system in check from going off the rails and by savescumming you are cheating your way past what keeps the system in check.
>>
>>3009867

>>
>>3009867
Morrowind had a failstate where the game would actually be unwinnable if certain NPCs died, correct? So having a savestate system helps in the "don't need to restart fresh off the boat" regard. I think saving and reloading random chance dialogue and specific combat encounters is sort of a byproduct of that.
I don't know how these totems I keep finding work in Valheim, but from what I've gathered, even if every single one resulted in a bad outcome, the game would still be winnable.
All that said, I thank Oden for the Dirty Hoe.

I carry a crossbow on me specifically only for hexen. lightning strike for the most part is a massive problem solver, but it doesn't shoot straight. very frustrating to see my lightning strike go wide on my target during an opening. any emergency that sees enemies get in melee range of me has me rolling through attacks and running the fuck away. stamina is king in melee combat and with no stamina food in my gut and only one health food I'd be a moron to stay in any type of melee conflict.

Figured out where I am.
A bit of a mindfuck drawing the map and being more thorough with cardinal directions after getting used to seeing a coastline go from west to east and it's actually north to south.

Turns out I left a lot of loot at this base.
Ideally if I survive I'd like to set up a nice base with loads of black forges so bringing them.
Also might make a lot of shield generators in ashlands.

you can use basically any kind of walling around a fire and it won't stop the eggs from being warm. I used wood half walls and a campfire and that shit worked perfectly for my coop.

You can get some in ashlands too. Not much, but plenty.
